I used to eat here all the time before being into Yelp and for some reason we stopped coming even through we've always liked the food. When I think mexican I always think tacos but I don't think i ever tried tacos here, but i will say they make some of the best fajitas ever. What I think is really different is that each type of fajitas meat you pick is not just a different meat but its a different sauce and seasoning. For example the pork fajitas has citrus sauce and spanish onions and the mahi-mahi fajitas has baja salsa. They also have pollo fajitas and garden fajitas (meatless) but my favorites are the carne fajitas which has fresh garlic cumin cilantro and other stuff or the shrimp fajitas which has lime juice and secret seasonings. Or you an pay a little extra and get a second meat on the skillet but its a lot of food. The fajitas on served sizzling hot on a skillet so sometimes your clothes tend to smell like fajitas when you are done. I know its silly but sometimes i get other dinners because I don't want to smell like fajitas. But then i get to try other dishes like the asadas; of course shrimp is my favorite of the asadas too. They have tons of burritos to pick from but I haven't ordered any for myself but my fiancé does and I usually like the ones he gets. The tostada grande salad is awesome but not healthy like you would expect from a salad. I did recently try their pepe's spinach enchilada with chicken added and I LOVED it. They have a huge selection of tequilas and they have a margarita menu with tons of options but id recommend the house one; sounds boring but its really the best one. I even get that one when they have a great drink specials just because its that good. You really need to try this place. Its really colorful and comfortable and the staff is really nice. read more

Baja Cafe has been a staple in Deerfield Beach for as long as I can remember. Anytime we are in the mood for authentic Mexican cuisine, we always go to Baja Cafe. Their complementary chips and salsa are delicious. We always have a fantastic experience with the waitstaff and they are always kind, attentive and knowledgeable about their offerings. I usually get the Manny's Mango Burrito and my partner got the Rattlesnake Burrito. Both were absolutely delicious and kept us full for hours. We will be coming back to Baja Cafe soon! read more

We couldn't get into nearby crowded Casa Maya Mexican Restaurant so by default we went to Baja Cafe and I'm glad we did. Prices are very reasonable, the service is excellent and drinks were fine. The big negative for me was the uncomfortable seating at the booths. It's like I was sitting on springs because the seats are so poorly cushioned. I also felt every slight movement from the adjacent booths which was annoying. It's a limited menu of the basic Tex/Mex standards and while I would have liked to have seen a broader choice - what they do offer is very good. I had a Chicken Burrito and often with burritos the chicken can be overcooked, poor quality cubed chicken but here it was the opposite - which made for an excellent burrito. The accompanying rice wasn't very good and was strangely gummy. Probably more of a 3 and 1/2 but that's okay because Baja Cafe is a good choice for standard Tex/Mex with very fair prices. read more

Stopped by this placed after work with my friend.. Any time is a good time with Mexican food. The location is bright and has a great atmosphere. We were seated and given chips and salsa. They give medium or spicy salsa on the table. The chips and salsa are enough reason to come itself! They told us there drinks specials which were very affordable. The night I came it was 2 margaritas for 13.99. Usually a place like Rocco's or el Camino charges 10-15 dollars a drink. The drinks were not watered down and boy were they strong! I ordered the Mexican tacos which are more on the mild side and they come with cabbage and cheese. The tacos were delicious after a long day of work! The service was very friendly and quick. Many staff member came to fill up our water or give us the second drink when the first one was done. The prices are anywhere from 10-20 but very reasonable. Definitely go here again read more

As good as last time. STRONG margaritas. We went at 2 for a late lunch and they were buy one get one free so we each had 2. I actually had to ask to make the second one weaker because it was that strong. Not complaining but I wanted to be able to walk! Service is average. Nothing special there. But the food is incredible. The wait staff are consistently cheerful, buoyant, energetic and uplifting. The pace can be fast enough for a quick lunch or easygoing for a celebration dinner. I know; I've tried both. What about the food? Also a consistent pleasure. I am amazed by how delicious so many of their menu has turned out over the last few years. The drinks are fine. The salsas are marvelous. A friend and I just had lunch here and it was the worst experience ever! I have eaten here in the past and it was usually good. I ordered the pork tacos and they were lukewarm. Plus, I ordered a side scoop of guacamole and a scoop of sour cream. When I got the bill, the scoop of guacamole was $5.99 and the scoop of scour cream was $1.99! Insane!!!!!! To top it off, there was a foul smell coming from the direction of the restrooms. I mentioned it to our waitress (who was the only pleasant part of our experience) and she did spray which helped for awhile. Unfortunately, the smell came back. Smelled like a sewer might have backed up. We should have gotten up and left! What a miserable lunch and very overpriced. I do not recommend this restaurant at all! read more

I really wanted to love this place. The decor and ambiance made me feel like I was back at one of my favorite Mexican spots in Phoenix. Ultimately it was a pleasant experience but nothing really stood out. It was good but not fantastic. Regardless of my above feelings, they were absolutely packed on a Saturday night. We got there just in time before the wait time got annoying. I was practically ecstatic (and perhaps on the verge of starvation) when they brought us chips and salsa. Not one but two kinds which is usually an automatic A+ for me. Nope. Not the case here. Both were equally bland. I'd say one was -Mild and the other slightly Medium. If you're going to give us two salsas at least one of them better be memorable. I'm hoping Baja was having an off salsa day. What they were lacking in salsa they made up for with their Mahi fajitas. It's not everyday you see pure fish (non-shrimp) fajitas so I went for it. They were tasty and it was a LOT of food. By far one of the best fajita spreads I've seen in terms of what I like to call the fixins' (beans, lettuce, cheese, pico, guac, sour cream...you get it). They also happily gave me additional tortillas without charging me $4 like some places do. Prices are a bit high with burritos/enchiladas at nearly the same price as fajitas minus a buck or two. A black bean burrito is $14. That just annoys me. Two tacos for $10? I don't think so! The service was overall probably the best part. Everything else was ok in that I might come back but I certainly won't be rushing back next time I'm in town. read more

Today was another day we wanted to try a new place to support our local businesses. From the outside, the place doesn't look much to it but when you walk in you are warmly welcomed. The inside decor feels like you are in a Cantina/Sports Bar but very colorful. It's small inside with not very many tables. The server came quickly and brought out chips and salsa . He then came back and took our drink order and gave us time to look over the menu. They have a very full and colorful menu with many selections to chose from Chimichangas to Tacos. When he came back, we asked him what were his suggestions and he said the Steak Tapiqueno was his favorite. We then ordered Dos Tacos, the Beef Enchilada and the Steak Tapiqueno. All entrees come with Mexican rice and your choice of black beans or refried beans. Our food came out quickly and it was perfect temperature, very flavorful, delicious and very filling (very big portions-you can share dishes). He was correct when he suggested the Steak Tapiqueno because it was exquisite! Afterwards, we ordered a flan for desert which was delicious and he brought our check. All in all, we would highly recommend Baja Cafe, they have very friendly hostesses, servers with excellent food that is served quickly. (mind you we came on a Sunday around noon). I went last Wednesday and pleasantly discovered all margaritas are 2-4-1 all day!! I was with a friend so we enjoyed chatting and catching up. They were hosting a ladies birthday party of about 12-15 ladies. They really went out of their way to make it fun. I saw a bottle of tequila being poured by the Owner/Mgr I think he had questions for them to answer. They had a big sombrero for the birthday girl and they were loving every minute of it. Til I saw this party it wouldn't have occurred to me to have a birthday party here. Now I definitely would. I enjoyed the best guacamole always fresh and perfectly seasoned. Love this little hidden gem. Everyone is friendly. They have a variety of choices and all the food we have had is good. The fajitas, tacos and pork wings are all good. They bring fresh nachos with mild salsa to the table which are yummy. The kids chicken fingers are fresh and appear homemade. The margaritas are good and they have 2 for 1 tequila on Wednesdays. Baja Cafe is pretty excellent. JBear and I took the little roommates last night and everything was flavorful. We got there around happy hour so the margaritas were cheap and plentiful. The chips were hot, salty and crispy, perfect for the two salsas that came with them. We started with quest and even the little roommates were fans. I had the hellfire and damnation enchiladas and they were slightly spicy but the flavors were on point. JBear got a shredded beef chimichanga and had nothing but good things to say about it. The Twinjas has a cheese quesadilla and a chicken burrito and both ate their food without a fuss. The staff were friendly and multiple people stopped at our table to make sure drinks were topped off, the chip basket was full, or just to check if we needed anything. We came here for my husbands birthday dinner last week and Katrina was our server and she was AMAZING. She was very sweet with my very toddler ("no, mine, no" attitude in full effect lol) 2-year-old. She even accommodated us and gave him his own little bowl of chips because that is what he wanted. We used a Groupon coupon for dinner and I would pay full price the service and food were awesome. The reason the restaurant loses points is that the drinks are really not that good and for the cost, it isn't worth it. The 2 for 1 Margaritas were $14.00 and they were not very strong. I did have a problem with the Spicy Watermelon Margarita (it didn't taste good to me) and Katrina had no problem switching it out for me, so it was much appreciated. The food was pretty good. As soon as we sat down we got chips and Salsa. My husband and I had the Avocado Salads (he had shrimp and I had steak) and they were delicious. My son had the Taco kids meal and loved it. He ate half and devoured the other half for lunch the next day. We will go back for sure but during Happy Hour, not so strong drinks at a cheaper price will make anyone happy lol. This isn't authentic Mexican, this is tex-mex A side note, this COULD NOT have been prevented by the restaurant may be the only way would have been to cut this patron off from drinking earlier, but I am not sure if that was the case. We were sat next to a couple. The male (a white man in his late 50's to early 60's) kept shooting dirty looks at our 2-year-old. My husband noticed and our son wasn't being very loud he was enjoying chips and watching NASCAR because he loves cars. But we tried to quiet him down because I never want to be that obnoxious family. If he gets loud we walk outside to take a breather and discuss proper behavior when eating a restaurant, but he is 2 years old there is only so much discipline you can do at that age. But taking him out of the establishment happened after this couple left. The man and woman then got into a heated discussion where this man then made a racist comment. The wife was embarrassed and left and he went stumbling after her. When he left, he pointed to a our table and the table across from us (there were 2 gay males and a Hispanic female at the table across from us) and said, "Well I'm (bad word) sick of them (pointing to us) and sick of them (pointing to the table across from us). We need to get all these (bad word) people out of our country." I will be completely honest, after that happened I was turned off. My husband is mixed (Bahamian, Turks Islander, and Dominican) and I am mixed (Italian and Jamaican) my adorable mixed son rocks a big fro of beautiful curls and he is a very friendly baby, he smiles while telling you, "NO". I was scared. I literally moved my son from his highchair and had him next to me in the booth. And within 15 to 20 minutes we left. We didn't mention anything to our server and again it is not the fault of the establishment. I didn't have them lose a star because of this incident. I haven't ever experienced anything like this before and it just made me nervous and kind of sad. For a moment, I felt less than not because of anything but the color of my skin. I would go back to this restaurant but I am just more cognizant everywhere I go a part of my innocence was lost. read more

This is my favorite Mexican food anywhere. Not just in Florida, but ANYWHERE. SO many great burrito options (try the ones with shrimp). Usually, I always defer to fajitas with Mexican because fajitas are a good staple food, but not here. I mean, yes, the fajitas ARE really really good and I've had them and will have them again, but the burritos... OH. And don't get me started on crab nachos and homemade enchiladas or the fun decor or the great bar... And the margaritas! Oh my... I can't wait for my next visit! 3.5 stars From the moment we stepped foot in this establishment we were served properly! What I thought was the hostess lead us to our table, brought us chips and salsa and asked us if we would like something to drink. We asked for a moment to look over the menu and she tells us that "everyone works together here so you will be able to place your order with any of the staff." I thought that was a great concept and it really worked out nicely for our whole dining experience! On to the food, it was quick, which was great because we were hungry. My boyfriend ordered some "El Scorcho chicken breast" which he inhaled like a damn animal so I'm assuming it was good. I had the Carne Asada and it was pretty good, a generous meat portion with sauteed veggies inside of a tortilla with cheese on top and rice and beans on the side. Satisfying to my hungry stomach for sure and some to take home for later. The two dishes for about $27. I would definitely eat here again but prefer a Chipotle burrito for cheaper when it all comes down to it...If only they didn't wiggle my chicken off the serving spoon...dammit! read more

I love this place. I've probably been here 10 times now. The armadillo eggs are great- jalapeno and cheese deep-fried with a sweet (not too sweet) sauce. I don't do too spicy, so this is good for me. My absolute fave is the Burrito of the Angels. I switched it up last time and I got Manny's Mango Burrito and he got Bandito Honey Bean burrito. I wasn't all that impressed with mine, it was pretty plain, his was decent. We'll prob go back to our faves when we go back. I don't know how the drinks are since I really don't drink liquor, especially tequila. They don't have the greatest beer selection, Presidente is OK. The wait staff is pretty good, I normally sit outside when the weather is OK (winter). There really isn't much of a view, but you can gaze at the beautiful car dealership across the street if you're so inclined. TIP: Order a gift certificate from restaurant.com, they accept them. You can buy a $25 GC for $10 (on sale sometimes for only $2). You do have to spend $40 or $45 for it though. Sometimes they will even let you use the GC for takeout. read more

The inside of this restaurant is fun and eclectic with dim lighting. The chips and drinks came out rapidly. Service however was mediocre. Server forgot something I requested and I spotted her gossiping for quite a while with another server. The food was good, I ordered the honey bean burrito. I thought it was a surprising flavor for the dish, it was pretty good. Only complaint is that there was lettuce in this hot burrito. That's a pet peeve of mine, because lettuce wilts in hot food.
