Great place for Mexican and better than most Tex-Mex places. Try the carne asada fries. Some of the best I've ever had.

Love the food! We has the brisket taco and the calamari tacos. The queso/salsa combo dips are good, too. My complaint is the atmosphere is not customer friendly. Every time (and we have been 3+ times in a year) the waiters act uninterested and management does not care. As a family that eats out 2-3 times a week, they could get more of our business, but we choose to go to Fresco's in Watauga instead. I think if you just want drinks/food at the bar you are better off. read more

Fish tacos! So cal fries! This local Mexican food place is so good! The bar scene being so close to the main eating area is a little too close but the food is good. I don't particularly like the pictures on the wall with the G- Strings. My kids always notice them and I hate that. .. Soooo I usually pick up the food and call it in. If your going for drinks I recommend this place. Their margaritas are the strongest I have ever had, definitely reccommend the Cucumber margarita. The chips and salsa was bland the food was eh. Have visited their sister restaurant in Grapevine for the atmosphere and the new Keller location is as good! The margarita's are great ... "lightweights, order a small" for they are strong. The wait was around 30 minutes and the bar was very crowded but it's understandable when it is a Friday night. I ordered the hamburger with cheese, jalepenos, and bacon with fries. Very tasty-oh, I did not get the grilled onions for you onion lovers. It was presented in a tasty kaiser style hamburger bun. Delicious! My husband ordered the brisket tacos (3) and while they were tasty, he ended up filling up on 1/4 of my hamburger. Priced at $3 a piece, not as good a deal as my $5.99 hamburger. He said he would order a hamburger the next time. Great environment with an eclectic sports bar feel and convenient for Keller residents, I recommend it to be a great place to have a date night with your hubby, or meet up with friends kind of place. I have been going to Funkys weekly ever since it opened. I have become disappointed recently as they have increased food prices, skimp on portions and the margaritas are not what they have been in the past. On top of that, every good bar tender we have had has left the place, very disappointing. The atmosphere is not what it used to be, not sure what is going on with this place but I sure miss the old Funkys I had grown to love. I may be finding a new hangout. read more

You will catch me in this restaurant almost every Thursday for the AWESOME Burger special they have. This places burgers always floor me just how purely delicious and huge they are. They always come out on a poppy seed bun, and on Thursday's you get a Burger and fries for only 5 bucks! I highly recommend trying this place for anyone and everyone! read more

good food, but i was there during "happy hour" on a Wednesday night. Ordered a frozen margarita, not top shelf, just a frozen margarita. $8.....let me repeat....$8. During happy hour. My family and I have been coming to this location as well as their sister location, Baja since they opened. We actually come several times a week just for their margaritas. The food is average but the margs are the best. That being said, I am a loyal customer but my last visit was a true disappoint, especially with the management on staff. It was a Saturday night and it was rather slow. My husband and I ordered our usual drinks, and I ordered a burger with fries and avocado. What really ticked me off was that I received 2 slivers of avocado and was charged $2. The burger cost $5. I have ordered this option several times and received a side dish with at least half an avocado sliced up. I complained to our waitress, Brenda regarding this and received nothing. She said she would mention this to the manager, but he was to busy chatting with the chip girl at the bar to eat least address the issue with a loyal customer. Dude, your customers are what keep you open and you should at least walk the room to make they are happy and not just hold up the bar. Believe me, the next time I come in, we will have a chat. read more

We have been to the little place hidden in a strip mall several times. The tacos have been amazing... The times we have been were on Thursday through Saturday. We noticed a female walking around observing... Taking care of business. You could tell she was a manager. The service was as good as a bar could be. Kept the drinks coming and we saw our waitress often. I cannot believe the service we recieved tonight. Wow. Maybe it was because it was a Monday night. It was mostly waiters.. hate to say it.. men.. . The service was horrible. I asked for french fries for my son and lettuce and tomato on his burger. We didn't get that. My husband asked for ranch with his chicken. Nope didn't get that. I asked for refried beans with my meal... Nope, didn't get that. Would have loved a 2nd Margarita... nope, didn't get that. I saw my waiter working his butt off. So, I feel bad. its an nice place with great food. but, gotta catch them when they have enough staff and aren't so busy. read more

I have been coming to Funky Baja since they opened. I've always enjoyed coming here to watch games, have a couple of drinks... but lately it's kind of a less exciting atmosphere. They have a new bar staff and.... lets just say I miss the old bar staff that knew me by name and always knew my drink order. There is new management and it just isn't the same old Funky Baja it used to be. Hopefully things turn around! read more

TERRIBLE RESTAURANT. We came here after a wedding to get margaritas, and they wouldn't accept our IDs which are Oklahoma IDs. Completely ridiculous. Apparently no one can drink here from any state except Texas. This seems insane and completely illegal. The waitress was rude, and the manager refused to come talk to us. read more

Food is great. Cool vibe. Loud and fun. I've been here about 6 times. The service is awful. Not bad, I mean awful. The staff is about as bad as it gets. They act mad. Slow is being kind. Where, where are the managers? Food so good and then it's all falls apart. If you have kids that need a high chair...check it out. The manager will know, and let this be a lesson to the owners and manager. You have a lawsuit coming from a child falling out of a high chair with no working latch. Parents take a look at them when you get there! I gave it so many times to improve. It didn't and let's see how long it lasts. I'd rather be home. read more

Not sure what people are talking about in saying there isn't alot of filling in the taco. There is TONS of filling! That is what stood out in particular. They have quality ingredients, too. No corner cutting, no cheap stuff. The salsa, (I'm more of a traditionalist when it comes to salsa), but it still had good flavor, it's a bit too spicy for me, and way to spicy for my friend. Chips were good corn flavor, medium weight. I'm trying to try all the tacos on the menu! As far as the atmosphere, I get it. It's California, (dude!). (Baja!) Most of us Texans are so used to Tex-Mex, but there is also Cal-Mex. So this place is a fusion of cultures. You have the very traditional Mexican with the wrestlers (luchadores) (see the movie Nacho Libre with Jack Black, and although a parody, you'll see the importance of this in the Mex culture and also laugh your butt off at the same time!) The street vendor corn is also offered on the menu, I don't know where else you can even get that North of Austin, again, very Mexican. Then the California aspect, bring on the avocado, slightly different salsa, the surfing theme. The license plates go along with the Califunkiness that Cali has, just a little funky flavor, that's all that is! And hey, who doesn't want to watch the game?, hence the TVs. (TVs sell beer & food) Personally, I wd prefer not to have it so loud and crowded in the evenings, I just duck in and get my take out order I called in. But, if that's what you're looking for, it looks fun. You can have a quiet, casual lunch there during the day, no problem. Different atmosphere. We have had great service at times, other times, ...meh...OK, but really young and didn't really knock our socks off, they got the job done though. We were looking for somewhere laid back to grab a few beers & a mid-afternoon snack & the Funky Baja Cantina was definitely a good choice for exactly that. The beer was cold, the queso/chips were delicious & our bartender Connie was friendly & fun. She was also great about giving us some tips for other places in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area which I look forward to checking out over the next couple of days. Would absolutely return again to try some more of their food; there were some awesome looking tacos options on the menu! read more

I'm not sure what has happened to one of our favorite places in keller. The atmosphere is just not up to standards it use to be. I use to come in on Tuesdays all the time for their taco special but recently there have been some issues with the quality of food products. The first two times this happened to me I let them slide but this last time I cant! There have been some issues when I have gotten the fish tacos which have made me very sick! Not something you want to deal with! Now the first two times I let it slide just it case maybe it was something else buuut this last time it happened I knew it wasn't right. I have heard from others that the quality of product and the quality of handling the product has been questionable. I know one of there other locations almost got shut down. There have been other changes in the food products BUT to cut that many corners to save money so it would affect your handling of your food is outrageous! There are so many new options here in keller, I would highly advised not coming here! Funky how about you get it together! If there is new owner ship you have not met the standards that FUNKY use to have! read more

I love this place! The daily bar and food specials are great, but it's the service and friendly atmosphere that keep my husband and I coming back a couple of times per week. I'm a regular here and of course I always get their margaritas!!! Best margaritas in town. Their dirty wings which are half hot and half ranch are also ridiculously addictive. We always get great service from Daniel and Carlos. Always a fun place to grabs drinks and a quick bite. Burgers are also a strong point for this spot. read more

I wish I could give two different star ratings for Funky Baja's...one for the food and one for the drinks. If I could I would definitely give the drinks a 5/5 and the food a 2/5. For the sake of this review I will be nice and give them a 4. Their margaritas are the best I have ever had. First of all they are HUGE. Secondly, they are incredibly strong. After your first sip you will understand what I am talking about. I've had the Baja Blue and the frozen mango so far; both were excellent, although I liked the mango better. For margaritas they are a little pricey but you essentially get like 2-3 drinks in one. Now onto the food...it was okay. Except for the queso it was just weird. It certainly wasn't good and I'm pretty sure it wasn't even cheese.... The food is nothing special or noteworthy. I will say that I have only had food there one time (we really only go for the margaritas) but we could have gone on an off night or maybe I didn't order the right thing. read more

Been going here since it opened. Used to really enjoy it not so much anymore. The food is ok nothing great, the drinks are good. THE SERVICE IS AWFUL!!! The wait staff is constantly turning over. The manager just stands around and flirts with the waitresses, just stares at you while you try to get yor waitress/waiters attention. If you want to just have a drink better hope you get a seat at the bar otherwise you will spend most of the time waiting for a waitress. We only stop when we are near and its afternoon so hopefully you can sit at the bar otherwise i just go somewhere else. They even have a sign up in the place advertising the poor reviews they have recieved on this website. I guess they are proud of their crappy establisment. The crowds have shrunk alot over the last 6 months should be gone in 6 more! read more

Ate here for the first time today, was very disappointed. I didn't like the brisket in the burrito I got, did not like the spice they used (not sure how their chicken etc are spiced). Also disappointed in the queso I got with my chips. Server was super nice and friendly though and they were quite busy. read more

The food was good but we had a snooty waitress. She checked our table several time however didn't inform us of the things she was charging us for. She wouldn't split our appetizer price and just put it on one person's bill without asking us what we wanted to do. She also charged us for salsa she brought us that we didn't ask for and wouldn't take it off when asked to fix it. The food was good but just be careful when ordering because you will be charged for things you didn't want. I would recommend the food but not the service. read more
