This is hands down the best Mexican food in all of the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. In fact, the Califa Burrito (a California burrito, be sure to get a side of the special Baja sauce) with a side of chips and queso was one of the best Mexican meals I've ever had, ANYWHERE. Normally, that statement may not be a very big deal. But when you consider I spent 6 years in San Diego - home to some of the best Mexican flood on the planet - the statement holds a lot more weight. Another reason to love this place. Their tamales! Ordered 2 dozen for Christmas Eve - 1/2 pork and 1/2 cheese. $12 dozen. I do tamales every Christmas Eve and these are the best I've had in 10 years. Better than Esperanzas last year and even better than the ones I usually buy from my coworker Lupe, who makes them herself and has for many years. They were very moist, not dry and hard like some I've had in the past. And the fillings were yummy - very flavorful and spicy. And I loved that they offered a meatless version. Oh my goodness, so many things to say about this place! I went there with my family of 5, expecting a fun new restaurant in the Keller area.....NOPE! The staff was very friendly, but the food, ugh. The salsa was probably the worst part. It had a very dark, smokey taste to it, which didn't float my boat! We have been customers of the different 'Baja' locations for more than 10 years. Finally, after 3 back to back visits at Funky Baja's in Keller, despite what we like about the restaurant, we will not be returning. There is a female server who hates her job, hates customers, hates waiting on you but gets mad if you even try to get water at the bar as you are desperate. We have put up with her very sour attitude in back to back visits. We were relieved the last time when we thought we managed to get a decent server, but no, she was given our table. Out of my entire adult life, she probably is the worst server I have ever encountered. She literally DROPPED our plates to land on our table with loud BANGS when she was 'serving our food'. It literally was loud enough to make you jump and she did this with EVERYTHING she brought to the table. By the end of the night my nerves were so fried we just wanted desperately to leave. One of the servers we knew fairly well indicated this attitude was nothing 'new'. She must be related to the owners as I cannot imagine how any business could survive a server and continue to employ one even in these desperate times...that obviously hates her job and more than that, hates customers. The server asked us to please say something to management as we told them that after a decade, we would not be coming back. That was a disaster, all the manager had to say was 'well, if you don't tell me soon enough, there is nothing I can do". Like literally...that is ALL you have to SAY?? He didn't apologize for her attitude, didn't really indicate that he really could give a crud less if we never came back again. Baja - I guess you are banking on your margaritas being so good that it doesn't matter if you lose customers. It really is sad. Going here for so long became a family tradition but if you do not care about how long time customers feel, who tip WELL, then I guess there is nothing I can do to change how you feel or how you manage your businesses especially in the light of MULTIPLE back to back poor service visits and the ONE time we finally say something, we are just chastised. Thanks, give US a hard time after we've suffered and spent good money for nothing but being made to feel even worse than when we came in the door. read more

Fantastic tacos and burritos with some unusual choices like orange marinated pork, squid, chorizo and beer braised brisket. Tuesdays you get tacos for $2 each and Thursdays you get 2 tacos and a small portion of rice and beans for $5. All the tacos are very full of meats and the burritos are huge. You won't go away hungry. Good 1/2 burgers as well and on Friday's you get a burger and fries for $6. The fries are excellent, onion rings are huge and tasty (although flavored a bit like tortilla chips from cooking in the same oil). Even their hot wings are good, though, be warned, their spicy barbeque are, to me, hotter than the "Wild" at Buffalo Wild Wings and I am a hot foods fanatic. I will give one caveat regarding their service. I've been there a couple of times when I did not get the right food and anytime we go with more or 4 or 5 people the kitchen is extremely slow. I'm here weekly. Margaritas are fabulous for Keller. Manager is horrible. Appears stoned, can't answer questions when there is a problem. Waitstaff is great! Eager to fix problems. Manager comes across as if he doesn't care. It's so nice to have a place around the block to go out, but with the lack of management it's a disgrace. Very disappointed. Ok have been here 4 times now. Wow, I think this is just what Keller needed. I'm so glad it's non-smoking, trust me been to Papa G's and others and I can't stand the smoke. Anyways, I don't think there's an identity crisis like Eric W. says. I think that's why it's called Funky Baja, in the fact that none of the decoration makes sense. Pretty cool place though, have tried mostly tacos (all $3), but I had the "El Solitario" the other day. It's a Mexican-street corn that reminds me of when I went to Mexico a few years back. Definitely impressed. You gotta try it. My favortie tacos are the "El Campeon" and "El Espanto". While I agree with both prior reviews that they sometimes don't put enough meat, at least this is a taco. It's not filled with unwanted cheese, lettuce/cabbage, tomato crap. (like Yucatan Taco Stand/Fuzzy's) This is a taco and you do get meat people!!! The "El Villiano" taco is another good one. It's FILLED with shrimp. Finally a shrimp taco with more than 4 shrimp. I'm so glad this is close to my house, prices are cheap too! Ok the salsa is amazing. It's got this smokey-roasted flavor and I just drench all of my tacos in. It's $2.50 for chips and salsa, but it's well worth it. It's only a dollar more for another 8 oz cup. It was plenty of salsa for me and my wife. Don't feel like paying for it? If you want salsa just for your tacos they are more than welcome to bring you a little sample. I usually get another cup of salsa to go and use it the next morning for my breakfast. Yum! We were looking for some place to eat and walked in here not knowing it was a bar. Didn't see the "Cantina" I guess. We were exhausted from the day and were not in the mood. The music was loud and they have lots of TVs, so it would be a good place to chill with a drink or two. We took note for the future. Anyway, we decided to go ahead and look at a menu and pick up some food to go. Our server was very sweet and took good care of us. I am so glad we did! The food was excellent!! Went here for the first time last night solely based on the reviews here. While it was small and loud, I was quite impressed. This place doesn't serve traditional Mexican fare. I would say they specialize in gourmet tacos and flavors. I decided to try a few of their specialty tacos which were very good. My favorite are the pulled pork tacos and the brisket tacos. Both loaded with flavor. The salsa is a little on the unimpressive side. I also tried their nachos and they were good! They weren't chips with liquid cheese poured over them. There "El Martinete" was great. Had great flavor and the hot sauce at the table was good. My waiter wasn't overly friendly but was pleasant. I wish I was greeted better when I came in. This is the worst restaurant ever. It used to be good but then owners got divorced and it's a shit hole now. When I cam in the counter was all sticky. I said it was sticky and had to ask the female bartender to wipe it. She barely wiped the counter and I asked her for the cleaning rag to reword it. That shouldn't be my job at a patron but I guess her lazy ass- it is. Then I ordered 1/2 order of brisket nachos. She then finally brought me my drink then said they can only do a full order. I'm like fine. Zero adjusting at this place or pleasing the customer. Then she served the nachos, I had to ask for napkins and a fork and knife. Then I waited like 5 minutes and she's talking to some guy that works here and and was making a drink. I'm like "hello, can I get a fork?' She tells the guy to get me a fork. He comes over and hands it to me then says is everything ok, I said "no that bartender is the worst with customer service." He said she a floater between restaurants. I don't give a rats ass if she floats out into outer space... excellent customer service and adjustability and variety is what customers seek. Not here in Keller. Just love this place. It has been here in Keller ~18m and we have been nearly the same amount. It is our "go-to" family destination. My wife and two kids can have good food, great service and good prices. It is very difficult to get the trifecta, but Baja does it well.
