Great fish and chicken tacos, stopped here after a tiring hike and it hit the spot. Food came out fast. I recommend.

The SLOWEST truck I have ever been to. They were out of chips as well as guacamole. When food finally arrived it was average at best.

You don't need a ton of words to say that this place is legit! I wish Maui had a place like this. Great authentic Mexican food that come out fresh and quickly. Service could be friendlier but the food is top notch. Prices are fair for the amount of food you get. One plate is more than enough to share between 2 people. I enjoyed the chalupa plate that came with rice and beans. The beans were cooked perfectly and the cilantro crema made the dish! It was $14+ tax. If I am ever back on Kauai I will order a plate again and enjoy it on the picnic tables by the food truck. read more

Had the fish taco here. Generous portion on the fish and it was fresh and tasty! The tortilla chips were warm, too! Hubby had the chicken burrito which had fresh tasting ingredients, but didnt stand out as particularly tasty. Go for the fish or shrimp! read more

Chalupa's was DELICIOUS! I ran into it while waiting on my food at the truck next door and decided to get a couple kids options for my kids for dinner. They had the meat and chicken quesadillas and tacos. I commuted home (over an hour) and when I got home the kids inhaled their food! Now when you can get toddlers to eat all their food and after an hour drive; I'm not sure what I else I can say to explain how good the food was. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food this is the best place on the island. There are certainly other great Mexican restaurants but non come close to this gem! Very cute food truck. Fish tacos are great. Rice isn't really Mexican tastes like white rice with hot sauce. Beans are bland It's a little over priced (10 bucks for 2 tacos with no drink). It's also very messy. Over all main courses taste good. read more

Truly the best fish tacos in Hawaii and perhaps the best my fiancée and I have ever tasted. Each taco (an order comes with two) had two large pieces of fish along with cabbage, cheese, cream, and avocado. Highly recommend this spot for lunch! I ordered the fish tacos, but since I had only seen Baja (battered & fried fish) being eaten I didn't specify. The incredibly grumpy owner/cook gave us fresh fish tacos instead- & when I said that wasn't what we wanted he scolded me for my ignorance. Since I am Mexican and am from LA- spending many summers in Baja, I didn't appreciate the condescending posture. The fresh fish tacos were ok. The fish was kinda bland and the cabbage slaw on top was watery. His chipotle creme salsa was very mild, but I'm sure he's catering to people with soft tongues? The Spanish rice was undercooked but the beans had good flavor. I have heard the barbacoa is amazing, but he was out of it so.... If the owner hadn't have been such a jerk I would have sprung for another o of fish- this time the "Baja" style (which isn't on the menu so if you want that make sure you ask, he won't offer), but I really didn't feel like giving that dude another $12.95!!!! UPDATE: So it's a few days later and that same grumpy guy sent me a message- not apologizing for his demeanor but to tell me I'm lying about being Mexican because I don't "look Mexican". I guess he must be related to Trump because he doesn't seem to know that one's appearance doesn't have to fit a stereotype. As in...that guy didn't LOOK rude and ill tempered...but yep, he sure is. Amidst the wasteland of tourist food that is the south shore, Chalupa's is a beacon of yumminess and authenticity. Miguel, the owner is from Veracruz, and just opened the truck a month or so ago (according to him). When I ate there, the chef from Pizzetta (across the lane) was just digging in to the shrimp diabla, so that tells you something. His carnitas is melt-in-your-mouth tomatillo infused, decadence. Shrimp tacos were also a smash hit, and I hear great things about the barbacoa (gonna try it tomorrow). Expect to pay 2x what you'd pay at a truck in San Francisco, and be damn grateful for the opportunity! read more

Ordered the carnitas burrito with added cheese and sour cream inside. It was good. Hit the spot after a day at the beach. Could have wrapped the burrito better and it started to fall apart which affected the score. Tortilla and hot sauce were tasty. Could have had a few more chips. Maybe there's an option to buy more. Didn't notice. Quesadilla was solid and liked the sides it came with. As a family we enjoyed eating here and will be back. Seating is limited but haven't seen it too crowded. Price was fair. Make no mistake about it, this is a food truck that is sitting in the parking lot in Koloa town, just off the main drag. The location almost screams backpacker friendly. Came here on a Friday, and it was no where even close to lunch time, (ie: 2pm). There were a few people that were sitting around the picnic benches, either eating or waiting for food. Walked up to the truck and we were immediately able to order. Had ordered the Fish Tacos and Fish Burrito. Paid for our order and again, this is one of those places that wants you to provide a tip with payment. Both food and service sight unseen. When ordering the young gal taking our order had the music in the truck loud enough such that she could barely hear what we were ordering. HINT: Turn the f__ng music down so you can hear the customers. Once we had paid, we took up a seat at one of the picnic tables. There are many chickens around so that is the entertain while waiting for your food.... and considering it's a food truck, usually the food comes out quite quickly... Chalupa's is not that way. When we got our food, it was definitely tasty and very large chunks of fish in each of the tacos and burrito. The fish was grilled nicely, but really that is about all the good I can say about it. The rest was just meh. Not bad, but if you are looking for fish tacos or burritos, then there are far better places on the island. Maybe their other Chicken, beef or pork meals are better. Overall, The expectation of tip prior to food and service are definite turn-offs for me. The length of time we waited to get our food was what we thought longer than normal for a food truck. The fish was grilled nicely, but the rest of the ingredients just seemed to be very ho-hum. I would have provided 3 stars, but the wait time was just a mood killer.
