    Al Pastor tacos

This is my second time trying Baja chalupas! this time a different truck and just as yummy. I highly recommend the pineapple salsa so yummy. Al pastor tacos were my fav!

This place was our saving grace during the blackout that happened on Wednesday night on the island. The delivery situation is not like what you'd expect in LA. So you have to prepare to order about 3 hours in advance. We found ordering around 1:30pm was the perfect time to get food delivered before everything closed. We've learned that the whole island goes to sleep around 9pm but for delivery it is sooner than that. Our 1:30pm order gave us the perfect delivery time for a sound dinner delivery experience and in this case the black out situation that nobody anticipated. Their food is delicious and our favorite was the shrimp tacos! and their burritos!!

Well we waited too late to get a restaurant reservation so we decided to hit some food trucks and we are glad we did. We had the grilled fish tacos and Baja style fish tacos(fried) and a side of chips and salsa. The tacos came on doubled white corn tortillas loaded with cabbage, fish and sauce. Among the best I've had. Great salsa as well. As with most food trucks there was a bit of a wait only because everything is made fresh to order.

Steak taco. My youngest swiped the tiny doll up of guac off the top.

The food is ok.. but certainly nothing to write home about. We got steak tacos, Al pastor tacos, a beef burrito and a chicken burrito. The steak might be microwaved.... Seriously. It's that bad. The Al pastor was midsy. The burritos were ok. The quality of the food does not match the price. Not even close. The service was fast and there are picnic tables to sit at while you wait or to dine in if you choose. There is ample parking and it's close to other food trucks if you decide you want to get something else.

If I could give Baja Chalupa more than five stars, I absolutely would! This food truck is a hidden gem in Old Town Koloa, and it completely changed my view on food trucks. Our group ordered a veggie burrito, a grilled fish burrito, and two shrimp burritos--each one was flavorful, fresh, and hot! The homemade chips and guacamole were next-level delicious; honestly, some of the best guac I've ever had. The young man (Brenden I think) and woman running the truck tonight made our experience even better. They were so friendly, engaging, and provided outstanding customer service. Our food came out quickly, and everything was spot-on, which is saying a lot because my past food truck experiences elsewhere have been disappointing (order mix-ups, long waits, or being out of the item I wanted most). Baja Chalupa has me rethinking my entire opinion of food trucks! It seems like Hawaiian food trucks are a whole different caliber, offering incredible service and mouthwatering food. If you're in Koloa, don't miss this spot--you'll leave satisfied and already planning your next visit!

Best fish tacos on the island? Came here Tuesday at 545pm to the trio of food trucks: Monster sushi, Craving thai and Chalupas. Been here several times before, but first time that Chalupas been open. Order and pay in advance. Cash only. Took 20 minutes for my order to be ready. And I had to go up to the counter to inquire after the person after me got her order. The $12.95 blackened fish tacos came with two tacos each with two layers of corn tortillas. Someone mentioned that the fish tacos were huge. The tacos were huge but the fish fillet inside them was maybe 1.5 ounces. The fish fillet was buried under a mountain of shredded raw cabbage, which made up 75% of the taco. By comparison Rubios tacos has three ounce fish fillets. The blackened fish tacos were on the bland side, a bit dried out, and what flavor they did have overwhelmed by the spicy orange aioli sauce. Would order the regular fish tacos next time. The $12.95 carne asada came with two double sided fried pork tacos. Pork was cut into strips and spread out, covering up the modest portion size. Came with raw chopped onions and a large helping of guacamole, which was a deal maker. Could not taste the pineapple in the pork taco. Would I come again? Yes, but only if I didn't get soaked by a 5 minute tropical downpour with 20 mph winds drenching me, outdoor tables and chairs, rain umbrellas not withstanding.

    Blackened fish tacos. Must try!
    Shane K.

Amazinngggg. Get the Blackened fish tacos. Food is fresh and cooked when you order. They don't use the ordinary small piece of fish for a taco, it's a giant fresh piece per taco!

The owner charged us 18$ for a cheese quesadilla. I spoke with him and he felt good about his price. Worst rip off on the island. This is about ethics and I would avoid doing business here.

Lucky little find for my husband as I was wanting sushi and there happened to be 3 food trucks lined up. He did fish tacos and they were literally out of this world. He also got some Verde and while it had a kick the flavor was everything. Will definitely be back the next time we come to Kauai.

We had the grilled and blackened fish tacos
    Krista L.

The best tacos on Kauai so far. Large portion of fish on each taco. We ate 4 tacos and 2 drinks for $32.

The vibe here is casual, trendy, and often busy with long lines and loud music! This spot is known for their burritos, burrito bowls, and tacos (especially shrimp tacos). As for me, the real highlight were the kajiki tacos (that's blue marlin)- freshly grilled and topped with pico de gallo and cheese with rice and beans. The kajiki had a very mild, yet subtle sweet, citrus taste. And the grilled marks were perfect! Highly recommend 10/10! Overall, service was great! The staff were quick, efficient and very friendly! The pricing is reasonable and affordable. We will definitely be back for more!

I ordered the chicken burrito and my fiancé ordered the burrito bowl with fish. The bowl was served in one of those tiny Dixie paper bowls..for $17! He ate it all and was still hungry. My burrito had way more food than his bowl. Unfortunately their Mexican rice is really not it...the grains of rice are huge and flavorless. The only thing that saved my burrito was the shredded chicken. It was moist and flavorful, and they didn't skimp on the amount they put in the burrito which I truly appreciate since taking any bite without the meat was super bland. No seating available, this is all to go style. Parking is easy since there's a parking lot right in front. It's easy to locate and is situated next to a small grocery store. I recommend you go grab some banana bread from the grocery store for dessert, you won't regret it. All in all, I think there is better Mexican food on Kaua'i for the same price or less.

The lady working at the truck was super sweet and friendly, she recommended half al pastor and half carne asada for the burritos, and they did not miss! The tortilla had a beautiful grill on them but still soft, the cheese inside the burrito was ooey gooey and the meat was moist and flavorful with no fatty/chewy bits. The burrito was a great size and served with side of rice and beans. Both their red sauce and green sauces were delicious, I didn't find them spicy but some might. They also had pickled red onions and pickled jalapeños by the sauces and they were a tasty addition to our meal. We sat down and the server immediately came over and asked for our drink order. We asked for a drink menu, so she brought one for five people. Then she stood at the bar staring at us until we decided. The drinks were delivered quickly and we're actually good. Next came the food order. Four menus for five people. Order placed for one taco salad, twelve street tacos, all chicken or steak, and one burrito. We asked if we could have chips and salsa, guacamole, and queso dip. One bowl of chips for five people, which we paid for two refills. Salsa was canned, guacamole was not fresh, and queso was bland. Taco salad was OK. Street tacos weren't what we expected and didn't have limes. They tasted ok and the meat was fresh. Burrito was messed up and they tried to lie and say that's how burritos are served and the green sauce was chilis. We found out it was cooked and served with ground pork. This was not advertised. Overall, they seemed bothered by us and we're talking about us in Spanish to each other. One of our party was fluent in Spanish. When we left, there were three people there with badges looking at some paperwork from the bar, which was very suspicious.

Kudos to the staff for its kindness. The restaurant is open air and very comfortable. It has a rustic feel. We were seated by the window on a cool, rainy night but were perfectly dry the whole evening. On top of that, our server was very helpful in guiding us to order the right amount of food. He brought us a serving of edamame which is always on the house. The shrimp & pork potstickers were very good. I had the ramen which was tasty, filling and a great choice. Our server was terrific to put the spicy oil on the side which made it easier for me to eat. My husband had the butterfish which is the best I have ever tasted. It is a signature dish and always a pleaser. The only real downside is the limited menu. We were told that because of a staff shortage, it wasn't the typical menu. This was disappointing.
