The quickest service we ever had anywhere. Food is good, great place for breakfast. They have many options for kids as well.

It pains me to leave a meh review for a place that actually had really good service, but I have to balance that aspect with the quality of the food. I had high expectations of this place after seeing it in various newsletters and advertisements, but I was fairly disappointed. I tried the huevos rancheros and the chorizo scramble and both were pretty average. I have honestly had better in some of the smaller Mexican restaurants in Mountain View such as Los Charros. From what I could see, the American breakfast items were not that thrilling either. This place technically has a diner vibe so maybe I was holding it to a higher standard than most breakfast eateries, but still, from what I read in newsletters, this place is supposed to be great and I just didn't see that side. Again, the service is wonderful, definitely what you would expect from a diner, but sadly, service alone is not enough for me to say a place is great. Maybe we came in on an off day (it is Mother's Day, I just realized...), but we seemed to have had a vastly different experience here than the majority of other reviewers. The place was packed around noon on Sunday, and we had a 15 minute wait to be seated. No problem. It took them a little bit to take our orders (~8-10 minutes, I'd say), but okay, we were seated next to a large party (who were all obnoxiously loud, but whatever, it's a public place), understandable. Hubby ordered pancakes, I ordered soup and salad. Was told soup of the day was french onion, and asked for dressing on the side. We didn't get our food until 35 minutes after. By this point we were a little annoyed, though the one server who refilled our mostly empty water during the wait helped mitigate the annoyance somewhat. When we get our food - dressing was tossed in with the salad. No soup. Was then told the soup was chicken noodle, and if I was okay with that? at this point, I guess..... I didn't want to wait however long it'd take them to make this salad (caesar salad btw - just lettuce with croutons and parm) without dressing, so I just kept what was given to me. Couldn't finish it - way too much dressing. Never got the soup. When we asked a server, he asked if we wanted to cancel, and we just said yes - hubby was done eating by this point and I was just not hungry anymore. (Aside: pancakes were okay but definitely not worth a 35 minute wait). The server who handed us our bill offered to get her manager, but we declined - as long as the soup was taken off the bill we'll just pay for what we had and get going. During the wait, found a tip here that said to order an omelette as a burrito with the hashbrowns inside. Was looking forward to try it on a later visit, but we will not be back. read more

This place is the best neighborhood restaurant around. They have great food, the crew there knows your name, and they couldn't be more accommodating. They have fresh oj and use really good ingredients. It feels like a diner, but the quality of the food is great. read more

I'm starting to wonder if Bay Area folks don't take brunch seriously. C'mon people. This place is ok, but it's not as good as Hobee's which is a solid 3 stars. If I found a place that took brunch seriously, then I'd give it 4 stars and if it blew my socks off, then 5. This place is a solid 2: I've experienced better. Given the prices and the qualify of the food, I should've gone to Denny's. For the amount they wanted for eggs and toast, I didn't feel like I got good value out of my money. Breakfast is one of the cheapest ingredient meals on the planet. If you want to earn my business, then you have to do something somewhat special to it. Hobee's is my current go-to greasy spoon brunch. If someone has a better one, then I'm all ears. read more

My car was next door (Independence Honda, where Vlad truly is rad!) for service and I needed to get some work done. Had never noticed this place before, but caught their "free internet" sign and thought this might be a good place to park myself for an hour or so. The place has a "classic diner" feel (w/o the stools) and is very clean. They also have patio seating. But, it's in the parking lot and the area is pretty industrial - don't think it would be super scenic. I kept it simple: tea (comes to you in a box with a selection of high-quality teas. I chose the Darjeeling) and a biscuit (fluffy and flaky at the same time) with jam. Good and definitely hit the spot. The booths are cozy and the wi-fi was quite speedy. Service is fast and friendly and the prices are reasonable. They are only open for breakfast and lunch, but worth keeping in mind when in the area. read more

I wish I found this cute little neighborhood diner sooner when we were still living in Mountain View. I'm a sucker for hole-in-the-wall local diners with great breakfast selections. This place definitely fits the bill. We ordered the Baji's Hash Browns (country cut red potatoes, bacon, sauteed onions, bell peppers, topped with cheese) and the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs. My boyfriend and I love this place before we go to work in the morning. We have tried so many different items on the menu and we loved everything. I would recommend the gravy on ANYTHING. lol My boyfriend originally ordered the biscuits and gravy and we loved it. I loved the gravy so much I usually want a side of it for my hash browns or corn beef hash. :) Also don't forget to try the stack of pancakes they have the perfect recipe. The portions are perfect as are the prices. The service is great and every employee has always been friendly.I hope this place becomes your new favorite because its definitely one of ours. read more

I wish I found this place earlier, my friend and I went three days in a row for breakfast! The restaurant is a little removed but it was worth it. The interior is nothing special. However the staff is polite, personable, and open to changing to the menu items to fit everyone's dietary needs. I tried multiple types of omelets during our visits but my friend fell in love with the Funhouse Hangover skillet and had it each time (a hangover is not a prerequisite to order). A good brunch spot with no line?! That alone gives this place a 5 star rating. Awesome chicken waffles, club sandwich has perfectly cooked bacon that is soft yet crunchy. Fresh squeezed orange juice and grapefruit? Check! This place has an extra extensive menu and will most likely satisfy anyone's brunch cravings. The service is always great when we go. I would recommend ordering dishes that are not as common. For example, when I've ordered something like corned beef hash and eggs, the corned beef hash tasted like the kind that comes from a can. I always save my 5 star for exceptional locations and Bajis is definitely one of them. Their breakfast tops any other Silicon Valley restaurant that serves breakfast or lunch. Skillets are their signature dish and are to die for. They serve Peets coffee in signature Cafe Bajis cups and orange juice is pretty close to what you can get at home. Also the servece is great just you may want to come a bit early especially on weekends as they tend to get crowded. Anyhow I highly recommend. read more

This is easily my #1 breakfast place in the area, with amazing staff that end up welcoming you into the "family" as you come more regularly and very consistent breakfast experience with food ordered. I generally get a typical bacon and eggs breakfast, sometimes buckwheat pancakes, polish sausage, or oatmeal. All of these are good! There's something sort of addicting about their polish sausage... no idea what brand or source it is but it's delicious! They're really accommodating as I sometimes don't feel like the normal menu combinations. read more

We picked up lunch from here the other day - they have a really nice selection of burgers and sandwiches. I had the french dip with fries - tasty although the roast beef wasn't quite as tender as I'd have liked. I imagine this place is better suited for lunch than dinner. read more

Came here for brunch a few months back and ordered an Eggs Benedict, plus one other dish (cant remember which exactly). Anyway, We were surprised at the lack of quality control when our toast came out burnt, and muffin was black on the underside. The server seemed oblivious. When we complained to the manager, and to his credit, he was very apologetic and immediately gave us fresh ones. He also gave us a discount. With so many choices for brunch in the area, we haven't been back since. However, the manager's handling of our issue has left us with a positive impression. read more

I am going to give this place five stars, even though food wise I think it should be a four. The breakfast was good, not great, but I am a Huevos Rancheros snob. The place has a nice old diner vibe to it, which I like. The coffee was fantastic but it gets the extra star for the service. Don't go here! Food was expensive and not that good. The service was TERRIBLE. I placed an online order through their online ordering system. First of all, the ordering system said they take payment online but when I got to the restaurant they said I still needed to pay. See this was a problem as I had paid for it on a company card, and then had to pay upon arrival with my own personal card. Then..... the restaurant completely disregarded all of my requests in the comments section. People ended up with sides they didn't want and were missing what they did want. Then.... they totally missed an order completely! I had 15 orders, and spend over $150 with this place, I would have expected to be treated better. Save yourself, just go to Denny's. read more

My go-to breakfast/brunch place when I just want to unwind on a Saturday or Sunday. Super nice hosts that always check up on you if you want more coffee and what not. The menu is pretty big and I haven't really tried much variety besides pancakes, eggs, bacon/sausage or the breakfast burrito. Whatever I'd have so far is really great though. The coffee is also solid. I think it is Peets. I will say though that the prices are definitely on the high side. The portions are generous however. I just normally don't expect diner food to be this expensive. read more

Not only is this place conveniently close to home (although easy to pass by without noticing) it is delicious! My go to dish is the huevos rancheros. My husband goes the sweet route with pancakes or french toast. I've also tried a few omelets, chicken sandwiches, salads, and have never been disappointed. The food is consistent, reasonably priced, and the service is not bad at all. You'll see the same guys working there every day and they are nice. Now that we have a baby they usually seat us in the back room (new addition) with the other loud families. It's great! read more

So I find myself in Baji's Cafe in Mountain View this morning. The food is great and the customer service is excellent. But what strikes me most is how the staff treat the old vets here with extra special attention and respect. Even the surly ones (yes like me). Kind of "the" place for Chicken and Waffles in Mountain View. Kind of a hidden little gem. Food is always great...but I've only ever had the chicken and waffles. Customer service is usually very good, however I've always had something go wrong while there. First time there was a little metal piece from the grill in our potatoes. They comped the meal, but it was still odd. The last time I was there they gave me two chicken finger sized chicken legs and pretended that was okay for my chicken and waffles. When I brought it up to the waiter he said the order comes with two pieces of chicken...yes, but, every other order gets a large breast piece and a leg. After some back and forth they put in a breast piece for me, but I was really shocked because I thought so highly of this place and their customer service. I don't think Bajis does it for me anymore though. read more

I'm not really sure how this got 4 stars. It's not really that great. I had the skillet with salmon and I don't feel it was that special. The salmon was ok. The eggs were cooked fine. The vegetables were nothing special. I also tried the pancakes and they messed up that order. We asked for blueberries AND bananas in the pancakes but they only made it with blueberries. They fixed it by giving us a plate of bananas but that wasn't what we ordered. The menu looks just average. Maybe I need to go back and try the friend chicken and waffles. But from what I've tried so far, there's nothing special here. If you want a nice brunch place, check out Saint Michael's alley or Pastis in Palo Alto. They're not that far from here. read more

Solid service that is quick to refill the coffees and take your orders. The menu is gigantic, delicious Salmon Skillet for the mom (chock full of salmon and veggies) and a classic breakfast with linguica for me. Service sizes are huge and the coffee is hot. We moved further away from Baji's shortly after my last review, so I hadn't been in quite some time. I went with a friend a couple weeks ago, and to my surprise and delight, I was greeted SO warmly by the server who immediately recognized me, brought me a Diet Coke (always my regular order), asked how I had been, etc etc. At the end of our visit he even told me to give his regards to my husband, who wasn't with me on the visit.
