My mom excitedly pointed out Bake & Che when we drove by during our recent trip to OC. She's seen it in a lot of YouTube videos so we stopped by. It was 9:30 pm but incredibly busy! They were sold out of some of their bakes while we were there, so definitely come earlier in the day for more variety. We ordered the flan cheesecake, longan jelly (rau cau), and a few cups of che. The flan cheesecake was a harmonious blend of perfectly smooth flan on top of a light and fluffy cheesecake base. It surprisingly wasn't too sweet! The house special che had durian, red beans, white beans, mung beans, pandan jelly, "pomegranate" seeds, jackfruit, palm seeds, taro paste and the special house milk with peanuts. Everything tasted fresh and the portion was generous. Che is always a fun mix of textures but I was especially impressed with how the beans were cooked. We also ordered the che ba mau (three beans) and the grass jelly + pandan jelly che too. We liked Bake & Che so much we bought extra cups of che to bring back up to San Jose. I'm not into sweet much but heard so much about this place and this was a must (so I heard for this month March) so got to give it a try. Man, it was absolutely delis, not too sweet, and packed with big chunks of avocado and jellos plus others. Tried the new Sora Coconut Jelly from Bake&Che and it honestly surprised me. The texture is super smooth and refreshing, not too firm but not watery either. The coconut flavor tastes clean and natural, not overly sweet like a lot of desserts. It's light but still satisfying, especially if you want something chilled and not heavy. It's ok. It's pretty crowded on a Friday night and some patrons take foreveeeeer to order despite having plenty of time to come to a decision while waiting in line. The store itself is clean and bright but seating if quite limited if you want to eat there. Really wanted the Che Thai but they sold out so opted for Che Ba Mau (C3) and the Suong Sao Banh Lot (C4) - anytime I see pandan and/or grass jelly, I will usually order it. It's nice that they ask if you want the ice on the side or directly added to your dessert. In retrospect, should've gotten it on the side since I felt like it was too much ice. Honestly, they both tasted a bit bland and the beans in the C3 were pretty big, which became a bit starchy. We also ordered Banh Bo Nuong (B1) and the Banh Da Lon Sau Rieng (B2) - probably should've skipped these. The Banh Bo Nuong tasted like a regular honeycomb cake but just in a muffin shape instead of the usual slices and while light, I didn't feel like the durian flavor paired well with the pandan layers. Very small inside but you can order at the cashier or at a kiosk. They are rather quick to push items out. They offer traditional Vietnamese desserts that include cakes, drinks, and other pastries. 'Pandan Grass Jelly Dessert Che': Che was not too sweet and had an assortment of textures from the grass jelly, pandan jelly, and banh lot. '5 Cakes Sampler': This option let's you try a little bit of everything from their bake/banh selection. My favorites were the durian pandan layers (loved the durian flavor in this) and the palm sugar, they were so chewy and yummy! This place was crowded! The line was out the door but luckily it did go by fast. You enter and you can order at the kiosk. I got their C3 which is their Che ba mau. The dessert came out quick as well. It was flavorful, allot of filling, and not overly sweet. The inside is very small and not allot of area to sit down so it's more of a grab and go. The pastries were fresh, buttery, and beautifully presented, while the milk tea had the perfect balance of sweetness and creaminess. Finally got to try this Vietnamese sweets place. It is located inside a plaza so there's plenty of parking except when it is meal times, then parking is hard to find. It is located facing the streets so you can't miss the store and line that's always there. The store is a casual place to quickly pick up and go since there is not much space to sit inside. They offer a good selection of Vietnamese cakes that have palm sugar, taro, mung bean, or coconut. Also che drink options. I recommend if you haven't tried the cakes before to get the box sample, but my favorite is the palm sugar one, especially when it is freshly made. Price is a little pricey but if you like these types of sweets it is still in reasonable range. For me, I think it's slightly overhyped because I like the che in another store that's within the same plaza. Overall, very chic Vietnamese desserts place to give a try. read more

i like how bake and che has a kiosk you can order off of. once you submit your order, they are pretty quick to get your order out. i got the che dac biet, che thai, and the 5-cake sampler. they were all not too sweet, which is something vietnamese people love. i really liked the firmness of the jello in the che thai. as for the 5-cake sampler, they all tasted better if you have a side of coconut sauce that is typically eaten with che, but still good enough to eat alone. downside of this place is parking and if you are looking to sit down and eat your desserts in the store, it's always taken by other customers. read more
