First time going to Balensi Spa and I wasn't disappointed. I was given a gift card and to be honest I wasn't sure what to think when I first looked at their Yelp photos. It looked like someone's house. Soon after exploring their website and learning a little more I was interested. When I arrived it was actually a nice calm and beautiful setting. I was impressed. I was greeted right away and asked if I wanted anything to drink. Instead of waiting inside I was asked to wait outside and I wondered why but as soon as I took a seat I understood. The nice breeze and the fountain gave me a calming feeling before my appointment. I thought it added to the experience. I was there for a facial only and unfortunately I wasn't sure who my esthetician was. She did introduce herself but I forgot her name. Sorry! To be honest I think it slipped my mind because as she told me her name we were walking to the room and I was checking the place out. Again, impressed. Not at all how I imagined and the photos didn't do it Justice. I could imagine this spa being the center on a ranch in Arizona. Had my facial and I felt amazing. No issues during the service. I was relaxed and I felt incredible after. It wasn't until I got home that I looked in the mirror to see the work and wow, she truly did an amazing job. Hours later as I write this my skin feels great. Typically I'm not into the whole upsell thing and my esthetician thankfully didn't do that but now I'm wondering what kind of moisturizer she used that's making my skin feel this good! I didn't get an explanation of what the entire service would include and the game plan so that's my only critique would be to perhaps do a quick explanation of what I was in for. I was asked about it today and I said "I have no idea what she did I just know I feel and look great". As you arrive they receive you graciously and provide you with water, tea or a mimosa.. as I sat there in the zen space with the running water I was quickly received for my facial.. the young lady was very professional and thorough.. what a lovely experience .. my face feels hydrated and supple. I had my 4th visit at the spa and I always leave satisfied . It's clean , friendly atmosphere .Upon arrival they always greet you and offer you something to drink I go in for the deep tissue massages and I see Catherine , she's always so pleasant and I enjoy the massages so much I fall asleep . I love everything but if I could change one thing it would be that they don't wait outside the door while getting undressed and changing back from massage table . I always feel so rushed . I wish I could lay there a bit longer maybe 5 min after the massage is over . I think the flow is just really rushed going in and getting out . It's just an opinion other than that everything is great Tip all parking near by is metered parking so make sure you bring extra change and calculate time right. read more

This was a really disappointing experience. My husband and I were both unable to use the back patio during our visit - not due to COVID but because we weren't members - the garden patio was the whole reason we booked massages there. I was not told any time prior to massage. I checked the reopening email, the time of booking email, the website and spa policies and info page. I asked at check in and was told I could go after my massage and when I asked for a robe after my massage, that's when I was told I had to be a member. Also my husbands massage itself was so soft even after he said a few times he preferred a deeper/firmer massage. He said it didn't feel like a massage at all. Front patio they offered non members was sunny and not relaxing at all. Overall disappointing experience and not the escape we hoped for. Be wary - If you book any time of happy hour service they will ask if you want... I said what's included and she said swedish, aromatherapy or you can do a combo. BUT really the first two are included. The combo is an up charge of 40%. They fixed it for me and I warned my husband who's service was immediately after mine - so heads up. read more

This review is strictly based on a lack of availability and their rescheduling policy. Husband booked a facial and massage as a surprise. Unfortunately the date and time he scheduled conflicted with my availability. He called the spa prior to my appointment requesting to reschedule and was charged a $100 cancellation fee ($50 per service). In addition the next available appointment was over a month out (the end of March). Considering the spas limited availability Im sure this place has a solid reputation and/or limited staffing. At the same time I cannot imagine charging a customer such an outrageous fee to reschedule (not cancel) an appointment. I strongly believe in supporting small businesses but expecting a customer to pay full price for a service not rendered is outrageous. In response to owners comments - Husband called to reschedule prior to appointment. No answer. He called a second time and was fortunate to get someone on the line. He was reminded of the cancellation policy at that time, rescheduled, and charged a $100 fee. Keep in mind this was a single appointment with multiple services a facial and a massage. Not multiple appointments as implied by the owner. The owners negative and accusatory reaction to a comment that specifically stated (1) the review was in regards to the rescheduling fee and availability not the actual service, (2) his failure to acknowledge a compliment - a solid reputation (based on other yelp reviews), and (3) his failure to acknowledge a remark on limited staffing as the possible cause for limited availability (understandable in the midst of a pandemic) speaks volumes. I would caution potential clients. I recommend reading the additional negative experiences along with the owners response. Implying someone is using their elite status is absurd. Elite yelpers are not compensated we are nominated based on frequent quality reviews. There are reputable small businesses who strive to give clients and potential clients a positive experience. Bottom line this business charged full price for the space, product, pampering, ambiance, and labor. None of which was received. What should have been a relaxing thoughtful experience turned into an overpriced nightmare. read more

I hate to write bad reviews but I feel it's sometimes necessary so a business can improve their services as there should always be room for improvement! :) It was my second time there yesterday. The first time I had a facial by the amazing Katie, she is awesome!! But both my daughter & I noticed that Selene (Celine) the receptionist had a very dry attitude, she was not rude, just not as kind as the other girls. It didn't affect us much so we just let it go. No big deal! This second time however, my daughter was the only one getting a facial. I asked if I could wait inside & was told I could. I sat down to finish my champagne so I could comfortably shop for skincare products right after. Unfortunately, I was kicked out for sitting down. Selene (or Celine) came up to me & without a single apology, asked me to wait outside as no one was allowed to wait indoors due to Co-Vid. I respectfully tried to tell her that someone gave me the OK to be inside and I wanted to browse for products in a sec, but before I could even finish, she interrupted and said "noooo you have to wait outside due to CoVid" Needles to say, I was pretty bothered & disappointed for the way I was talked down to. The fact that I had to wait outside was not the issue as rules are rules and I COMPLETELY understand & respect that. However, it was the way she addressed it that made all the difference. Maria however, came outside & offered me some tea while she apologized for the inconvenience, she was super sweet and KIND! Not sure why Selene has a hard time being "kind". Everyone else there is amazingly professional and super kind, which is one of the reasons why we want to keep going. Their services are great too! Maybe we just had higher expectations and expected everyone to have the same kind & professional attitude. I did not end up purchasing any of the products as I was very disappointed. A solid 4.5 stars & high recommendation to get a facial with Ciara!! I had a 9AM appointment for a microdermabrasion facial with collagen...this was my first ever professional facial and it did not disappoint! The ladies were very nice, I arrived 10 minutes early to check in per instructions and I was offered a beverage and a cookie. Ciara took me back and gave me a few minutes to get situated under the sheet/blanket before she came back in to start. There was soothing "spa" music playing, the room was dimly lit and after some brief Q&A about my skin, products I use and what I was trying to achieve Ciara started the facial and I took a bit of a nap lol! This place is super cute, located on a quiet street in Chula Vista off "F" near the police department...the only complaint is you do have to pay for parking and the parking is on the street is only allows for 2 hours and still collects via change...luckily I was able to scrounge up $1.50 from my purse because I normally don't carry change or cash. Beautiful place a bit pricey but I'd do it again as a treat! read more

I am not one who reviews, mainly use Yelp for reference. Today's visit left strong feelings to share experience. The intent is not to demerit but rather to raise improvement opportunities. Let me start with the good. Balensi is a quaint and relaxing option located within a not too congested area. I was on a lookout for a potential long-term service provider. First visit, went great! Service was very detailed and I left a happy customer. Second visit, while the service was great - I did have irritation post visit. At this point, score was 1-1 but not enough to not give the place another try. Even with that, I was contemplating a membership. Both visits were later in the afternoon, early evening. I made today's appointment earlier in the week, clear to mention that I wanted the happy hour facial. Appointment was made via phone and the girl who took the call mentioned happy hour spa is available on Fridays. I was offered a 1pm booking - which I thought was odd since the website clearly states happy hour starts at 2pm. I raised that this was for a happy hour facial, she acknowledged understanding and pressed that time is available. Who was I to question? I said okay. Onto today, I arrived at 1250 and checked in. There was an apparent "delay" - no problem I had nowhere else to go. I was brought to the room at around 115ish - glad I had the same lady from my first visit. At this point, she asked my preference and I told her I wanted the happy hour microdermabrasion facial. She pointed out that happy hour doesn't start until 2pm. I replied I understand that but was told to come in at 1pm. I shared the specifics to booking call. She said she speak to the manager about it if this would be honored. She comes back and said unfortunately the manager did not approve. I requested to talk to him - a man named Michel. Again, I shared the details to booking appointment. He stood ground to not honor ALTHOUGH offered to honor it if I come back at 5pm. He gave the reason the system would not allow him to charge (down) at $20 less. Keep in mind the service will be done well into 2pm by the time any payment is due. At this point, it goes beyond the cost. Point is it was a mistake made on their end and not mine. The esthetician was available, the space is available and a returning customer has established this was a mistaken made on their end. Very poor customer service, this is how customers do not return. I mentioned this, he replied "they don't lose customers." I am one person yes but there is this thing called word of mouth. Not saying i will be putting out a PSA about them, this experience will definitely not get recommendations. Truly unfortunate as the ladies keeping this business thriving suffer the loss. read more

Who knew this tiny little gem of a spa even existed on this itty bitty side street? I'm the second generation of my family that was born and raised in Chula Vista- and had no idea this beautiful oasis has been here for 20 years! My mom was given a gift certificate to this spa from her coworkers at her retirement party a few months back- and she asked if I would go and enjoy some pampering with her! We had to schedule our experience about two months in advance, and let me tell you it was ABSOLUTELY worth the wait! The spa is built in an older house, which creates a warm and intimate setting for all of your relaxation needs. Upon entering their beautiful courtyard, we were greeted at the door by a wonderful woman who brought us inside, lead us to their changing room (which has lockers with robes and slippers for guests) with an attached restroom. She also offered us tea, water, or mimosas (so of course we got mimosas!). Mom and I were each treated to facials and hour long massages, and even got to relax in the garden between treatments, which has a sauna for those who wish to use it. From the wind chimes under the canopy of trees out back, the friendly and attentive staff members, to the wonderful spa music playing in every room, and the reasonably priced skincare products in their lobby... this was truly a wonderful experience mom and I won't soon forget. We truly enjoyed every moment spent at this location, and will definitely make it a point to come back! read more

I just went back after having not been there since before the pandemic and I had the absolute best deep tissue massage from Karla!! She took the time to ask about any trouble spots that I had (I have back and shoulder pain due to work) and she focused on those areas, while giving me an AMAZING total body deep tissue massage. First time coming here and first time getting a facial! Today is my husband birthday and he wanted a day of pampering! A lot of my family and friends highly recommended this place so I gave it a shot. I made our appointment's at least a week in advance I wasn't sure how busy they get, they couldn't take us in at the same time so mine was at 11am and my husband in the afternoon... the girl I spoke on the phone guided me with the process, what to expect when checking in and happy hour deals etc. I got greeted right away, guided me to the room where I changed and put my belongings in the locker. They offer tea, water, wine and cookies. It's so clean and nice! While I waited for my esthetician I waited in the sauna room to relax for a bit... Jenny was the one who took care of me and my husband after. For being our first time she made it so comfortable and relaxing. Jenny guided us with proper products and skin care that works best for our skin. I enjoyed my visit so much I made appts for next time! Can't wait!!! read more

What a pleasant surprise I got at this spa, I recieved a gift certificate last August for my birthday and just kept putting it off. I decided to make an appointment for last Saturday. Being retired and living literally steps away there was really no reason not to go. What a totally pleasant experience. Check your stress at the door because the spa itself has a calming, soothing effect the moment you step into the front patio. You'll enjoy just sitting and relaxing in what seems a tropical paradise. I have been to a few islands in Hawaii ,Thailand, Hong kong and it gave me that type of feeling. You'll enjoy and relax listening to the soothing sound of the waterfall and privacy of the patio even though your in the middle of the city That's only the beginning of your experience, the staff is extremely professional and pleasant. I've lived in Chula Vista my entire life and I never knew this gem existed. My husband found this place and got me a few gift cards to use. I've gotten three massages so far and I've had an amazing experience each time. The spa it's self it's like a hidden oasis with relaxing music, aromatherapy and waterfalls. Walking to the massage rooms makes you feel like your a million miles away at an exclusive resort. Staff has always been so kind and helpful and the therapist have the hands of gods. I have been coming to this spa for facials and massages for many years. A few months ago I decided to enroll in their membership program. I ended up canceling my memberships a couple of months into enrolling due to a medical/issue and procedure I was going through. When I called to cancel my membership, the girl I spoke to said that I had 1 credit left (that could be used at a later time) and that I had to sign the cancellation form when I came into the spa next - that was it. Once I had recovered from the medical procedure, I called back to use my remaining credit and re-enroll in the membership. At that time I was told that I couldn't because I ended my membership prematurely. The girl I spoke to this time said that I was given different options as opposed to canceling my membership. I argued that I was never given any options and asked to speak with the manager/owner. She then told me that the manager would review my account and would call me "if he has time". I never heard from anyone! Approximate 2 weeks later, I called back and asked to speak with the manger again regarding my account. The girl I spoke with said the manager had reviewed my account and refused to ALLOW me to re-enroll as a member. I asked again to speak with the manager and was told that he would call me. It has since been weeks since this incident and I never heard from the manger. I was a good customer who never defaulted on a payment, always left a good tip, and treated the staff respectfully. At this point, I do not and will not accept restitution. Spa's are a dime a dozen in San Diego. This location happen to be convenient for me, but I have since found a much better spa with fantastic customer service. If you do end up going to this spa, beware the manger/owner lacks good customer service skills, does not value its longtime customers, and will not return your call. read more

This was my first time coming here. My husband got me a SpaFinder gift card and this place accepts them. I was pleasantly surprised by the relaxing atmosphere and the great service I received. The front staff was very friendly and welcoming. My massage therapist was attentive to my requests and did a great Swedish massage. I was very relaxed upon leaving and will return for another session. The pricing is excellent! The monthly membership is about half the price of the massage places in Eastlake. You don't have to pay for a membership but if you plan on going at least once a month, it will be worth it. It's a little bit of a drive to the west side but through surface streets so you shouldn't encounter traffic. I highly recommend Balensi Spa. read more

Reviewing again because I had another massage from another therapist and it was AMAZING. I treated myself to a deep tissue massage with Karla for my birthday, and I feel relief from the knots and tension built up in my shoulders for the first time in years. It was my first deep tissue, and a little painful at times, but in a good way haha. Seriously the relief is incredible. I hope to be able to return a little more regularly to avoid the discomfort building back up. read more

Unfortunately I signed up for that annual scam membership... they never have appointments available, they wouldn't let me out of the membership (since I work 8am-5pm I can't make their 2pm appt. in the middle of the week) I brought my daughter today and they asked me to leave the premises because she's not 18 years old. I would give them minus 5 stars if I could. AND after they saw my review on Yelp they proceeded to discuss the time offerings they provided for my appointments (see their comments below).
