    Bubur Ayam
    Wayne H.

Ok so I'll be honest -- I almost didn't try this place because I had no idea what half the menu was. But I'm so glad I took the leap. I ordered the bubur ayam, which is basically this warm, golden rice porridge topped with shredded chicken, a boiled egg, crispy fried shallots, and green onions, with a little cup of sambal on the side. If you're American and trying to wrap your head around it, think somewhere between chicken and noodles and mashed potatoes -- total comfort food, but better. The broth had this deep turmeric flavor that I was not expecting and honestly couldn't stop eating. Everything tasted like someone's grandma made it, which is exactly what you want from a mom and pop spot like this. The portions were generous, the price was right, and the people running it were so nice and clearly proud of what they're serving.

This Indonesian café is conveniently located right across from the UT Southwestern campus, and we loved it! We started with an appetizer we hadn't tried before called batagor, which is essentially deep-fried fish cake. It was so good with the peanut sauce! Very savory and delicious. We also ordered a rice plate called nasi padang. The beef stew was cooked to perfection, and the jackfruit soup that came with it was warm and hearty. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side. We came on a weekday for a late lunch, so it wasn't too busy. It shares a parking lot with other businesses in the same block, and we were able to park easily for free. Overall, we had a great experience! My boyfriend even said he definitely wants to come back!

This being one of the only Indonesian restaurants in DFW was what made me want to try it. Travis was extremely helpful with suggesting our dishes. He recommended the Nasi Bungkus and the Bihun Ayam. We also got the Risoles. We first started with the Nadi Bungkus and oh my goodness... It was so flavorful. We didn't put the fork down until it was finished. All the food was amazing. The portion for the Bihun Ayam is extremely generous. Travis was great, he made it feel like we were having dinner at his house. This is by far one of my favorite experiences, definitely check it out!

The beef rendang entree was deeply flavorful, rich, and well balanced, with tender meat that absorbed the spices and coconut milk without feeling heavy. Paired with jasmine rice, it was comforting, and easily one of the best rendang dishes I've ever had. The Nasi Padang chicken entree offered great variety, with each component of the plate bringing something different to the table. The chicken was well seasoned and tender. The egg balado added good heat, while the soup was creamy, savory, and subtly sweet. The variety of textures and flavors made it especially satisfying. Everything tasted exceptionally well executed, this is a place I would confidently return to.

3.75/5 rounding up to 4 to support a local business Bali St Cafe is a casual, local eatery with collect your own paper utensils/plates/cups and very unique Indonesian dishes! The restaurant is owned by a couple and the wife pours her Indonesian roots into the menu as the chef. I enjoyed getting to try a variety of flavors, and the husband working at the counter was super energetic and great at recommending which mixture of dishes would maximize the uniqueness of flavors. Our orders were hit or miss: - Nasi goreng: flavors were excellent but unfortunately too salty 3/5 - empek empek: the texture wasn't our favorite but just a personal preference 4/5 (for the novelty) - gado gado: a staple salad 4/5 - ayam goreng: spicy, flavorful fried chicken 5/5 - chicken and rendang mixture wrapped in banana leaf: loved the infusion of the banana leaf flavor, but the meat was a little dry 3.5/5 - es kelapa muda: dessert with homemade coco pandan syrup 5/5 If you haven't had Indonesian food before, this is a must try. I think personally I am not planning on returning because the amount of salt, dryness of the meat, and textures just aren't my style. I could be convinced to try it again if I just didn't order the right things!

We were in Dallas for the weekend and wanted to check out some local, unique fare. I have never tried Indonesian food before, my friends had, and we decided to check this place out. Located in a strip mall, there's plenty of parking, it's a bit small inside, and gives us the hole in a wall feel. You order from a kiosk inside before seating, and the folks behind the counter are happy to guide you in food selection if you're a first timer. Just all around friendly, and you can tell this place gets a lot of regulars. We ended up ordering two coconut drinks they recommend- a condensed milk jackfruit smoothie, the beef rendang, and we got the Bakmi Jawa (Stir fry noodle) with tofu for my friend that's a vegetarian. They advised us not to go too spicy and brought out a chili oil on the side if we wanted to add spice. You could tell their chili oil was made in house with fresh chili's, and it was SPPIICYYY but so good. The kinda kick that makes you sweat inside and out. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, they were seasoned so well, and so huge in size that sharing was definitely easy. We all thought the drinks were a bit sweet, but paired with the spiciness of the oil, it worked. If I'm in Dallas again I definitely plan to visit again. And I'll see if I can find something as comparable locally! Pro tip: the menus they hand out do include pictures and names of the dishes but don't clearly show what's in each dish. We found it was easier to pull up their menu on the website and order looking at those descriptions!

This nice mix of meats is greatness.

Can't say enough great things about this place. Food is spicy, flavorful and delicious. Very friendly staff and the best chicken satay in DFW for sure. Their crispy duck isn't a slouch either. So good.

Came to Bali St Cafe on a Saturday lunch, and it was the perfect meal after a morning run! We got the Nasi Goreng with Chicken and the Beef Rendeng. Both were amazing!! The beef was soo flavorful and tender. The Nasi Goreng was spicy and savory. The portion sizes were huge and we easily had enough food for another meal. The person taking our order was kind and answered all our questions completely. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant!

I have never had Indonesian food and after this experience I absolutely need it again. Every bite was just an explosion of unique flavors that I have quite literally never experienced. Sweet, savory, umami, salty; just all the flavors are present. On top of this the menu is just full of a number of dishes that I have to come back to try. The only downside is the paper plates, plastic utensils, and a delivery robot that just screams music on max volume to deliver food only to get stuck in the middle of the room

Didn't know this place existed in the major medical district in Dallas! The female owner was born & raised in Surabaya, East Java, 2nd largest city in Indonesia. She was so nice & accommodating. We had beef rendang, sate ayam Jawa timur (chicken on stick), ayam penyet (tender fried chicken without flour), bakwan sayur (deep-fried vegetable in flour), bakmi jowo (East Java stir fried noodles), & cendol (sweet creamy coconut drink with elongated green soft pandas jelly). If you want to add to your food, I recommend ordering the red sambal. Everything was very tasty & pretty authentic. It's a cozy venue, walking distance to some of the UTSW BUILDINGS. The decor reflected the rich Indonesian culture, a blend of different parts of Asia. cool to experience another country half way across the globe without flying for 24 hours.

We were looking for something new and we're very happy to discover this Bali-inspired place right down the street! We asked the waiter (who was super nice and patient) for his recommendations, and they were perfect. We will definitely be coming back! PS: We ordered the Nasi Rendang and the Ayan Kalasan. Both excellent!

Amazing Indonesian Food! There are very few Indonesian restaurants in the nation. This is one of them. The service is great, and the ambiance is warm and welcoming. The price is very reasonable, a the portion size is very generous. Take caution as the area is a little dangerous.

Unfortunately, this place does not make true Indonesian food. I don't even know what you would call them, but it's definitely not Indonesian food. What I ordered: Empek-empek : something was off about this dish, maybe it was too vinegary Rendang: too sweet and tastes more like a pot roast Bakmi jowo: too salty Ayam kalasan: probably the only decent dish there Balwan sayur: super duper oily Cendol: took two bites and had to trash it. The green rice flour jelly was soooo mushy

Even though the playground is usually his favorite spot, he didn't hesitate & insisted we go to Kafi for the brisket. That pretty much sums up how my family feels about this place. I follow the chef/owner on Instagram (@kafibbq), and the amount of effort and detail he puts into his craft has resulted in multiple return visits for me. This review is for my latest visit. My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Kafi BBQ can be found in a shopping strip in Irving-Valley Ranch. Only opened Friday - Sunday, on my most recent Sunday visit around dinner time, Kafi was packed. The patrons were a great mix of families, BBQ lovers, and those looking for high quality Halal meats. Smoke was in the air. 1 Star. Service - The staff is super friendly and nice. Pro Tip - Go for lunch or before 6 before items are sold out. A few items were sold out on my most recent visit (my fault I arrived at 6:45) and the staff weren't aware of what was available, leading to some confusion, but they were so nice it didn't impact my meal. 1 Star. Food - By now, you've probably read or heard about Kafi's Wagyu Brisket. For me, I love following @kafibbq on Instagram so I can see what Salahodeen is cooking up. On this visit, it was the Brisket Sandwich. First off, the house baked bread roll is soft, but firm enough to hold Kafi's famous brisket on a pile of home made cole slaw and pickles. The result was one of the best BBQ sandwiches I've eaten. The bite was soft, smokey, crunchy, and tart (from the pickles). It was a special, and I'm not sure if Kafi will keep this on the menu, but I hope they do. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. It's pricey, but it's worth it. While the brisket is great, I suggest you follow them on Instagram to see what's cooking and plan your visit around the specialty items. 1 Star.
