I have had Chinese food all over Boston and the South Shore and Bamboo completely holds its own. Food is solid and have yet to have a bad dish. Happy Family, Lo Mein, General Gaos all great. Better food, cheaper and more portions than PF Changs which is in Legacy Place. plus get huge portions for take out. Plus, they have very tasty sushi and Japanese food to boot. My Mother and I visited Bamboo on Saturday the 10th for their weekend Brunch. We arrived around 1:30, an hour before ending. As usual, very crowded. Food is typically well prepared and is quite good, so no surprise. Unfortunately, just about everything we sampled was ice cold. This was not only unapeasing to our pallets, but frankly not very healthy. I did bring this to the attention of the management that evening in an email, but never received a reply, hence this review. If you like Panda Express or PF Changs ...you'll love this place. Chinese food such as: General Gau's chicken, coconut fried shrimp, crab rangoon, sizzling beef, pork dumplings, fried noodles & rice etc. with a few basic sushi rolls. I loved the coconut shrimp. I had about 7 of those! Saturday's buffet: $15.00 Pot of Tea: $3.75 (this is where they make their $$, stick to the free water) Tip: When the sushi boat comes out, better make a run for it. Some people literally stocked up on 10 rolls each with no shame. My only complaint is that some of the items, were kind of "luke warm" like..it's as if the heating lamps are not that hot. Delicious, solid selections of noodles, grilled meats, chicken skewers, stir-fried veggies, fried rice, and fruit and Jell-o desserts. Of course the sushi is the reason you'd go, because you can pay less than the $31 charged at Minado (Natick's buffet specializing in purely sushi), and concentrate on loading up your plate with primarily just sushi/maki. Speaking in regards to the buffet, and the buffet only, Bamboo is a pretty solid Chinese (although it's more of a Chinese/Japanese hybrid eatery) restaurant. Good selection, decent quality (even the Sushi, which isn't exceptional, but much better than most you'd find at a buffet table), and the dining area is spacious and surprising when one views the exterior, which is connected to a somewhat haggard looking Holiday Inn. Only thing that keeps it from a four-star rating is the price. The buffet is good, but it's a bit more pricey than other Chinese buffets in the area. If the buffet were great, it'd be easier to stomach. It's still definitely a good place to get a Chinese buffet, and doesn't receive major negatives for the price at all, however. read more

They are charging more money for alcohol and food items compared to what is listed on their hard copy menu provided by the in-house servers at Bamboo in Dedham. I went there, by myself, for some sushi and a couple drinks. When I got my final itemized bill, I thought it was a little high. I asked to see their menu again and compared the charges on my final bill against the prices listed on their in-house menu I ordered from, and there was a significant discrepancy in costs. The total cost on my final bill was measurably higher than the sum of the cost of the items I ordered off their hard copy in-house menu. When I mentioned the discrepancy to management, they apologized, said the additional costs on the bill were accurate because their "new menus haven't arrived yet." There are no new menus anywhere, no signs anywhere, no warnings anywhere, nor any language anywhere about any price increase anywhere in the building, on their hard copy menu, or even on their current website. Neither the server nor the bartender mentioned any price increases during the ordering process. read more

Great Chinese buffet. We went for lunch and the place was packed. They had a good selection of items-from salad to appetizers to sushi. They had a lot of chicken dishes to choose from. They had ice cream, mini cakes and fruits. Only thing missing was soup but it's all good. I'd definitely go back. Husband was thrilled because he loves buffets and Chinese food, so he was happy!! Vegetable fried rice, tasted as if it is 2 days old, but hey maybe it was due to it being 9 30 pm, a prime time for dinner. Although, great volcano drink, it even has a lit fire in the middle. Was taken there for the second time and was amazed. Excellent scallion pancakes and chicken wings! Only two complaints waiting 35 minutes for a table is torture when you smell all the amazing aromas !! The second is unfortunately with so many people the food made in small amounts with the focus on quality not quantity empties quickly! The worst experience our family ever had. The server was very disrespectful, my brother in law recently immigrated to the US and only have the ID from the old country, so he used that ID to order beer and the server refused to sell it because it's not a US ID, even though the ID also had English written on it !?! Are they illiterate ? I guess if you are foreigner you better avoid this place otherwise expect no alcohol served with your meal. Ah, they also precharged us in the bill "service cost" because we had 6 people. It wouldn't be unfair if you put a sight at the entrance or inform big parties ahead of time of the "service" charge instead of sneaking it in the bill at the end. Dishonest business! Won't come here again. My friends and I having been coming here at least 2-3 times per month. Last week after we paid the bill the server Candy came over to tell us we didn't tip enough. We tipped her 20% based on the food total. She was very argumentative and told us we should tip on the entire bill including the tax. We explained our reasoning and then very rudely she said "I listened to you, now you listen to me" and again began her diatribe. Needless, to say all 4 of us were aghast at this behavior. We then asked for the manager who told us " the restaurant doesn't make money unless diners tip on the total bill." Wow! In all my years of dining out I have never had a server ask for more money. In fact, compared to everything else in West Roxbury and Dedham it is like NYC and San Fran (in comparison, in comparison... slow down there Bobby Flay). Look, anything with beef here pretty much sucks, but the chicken and shrimp dishes are really good, lo mien is damn good and sushi is solid as a rock. Place is clean to boot. If you are Irish from Boston and Chinese = Pork fired rice , crab rangoon and spare ribs you will be happy as hell here (although you will probably be happy with Chinese food anywhere). If you are an aficionado of Chinese food, yeah you might be tempted to turn your nose up until you try every other place. Another restaurant in the area was full so we decided to try Bamboo, great idea. Had the shrimp with vegetables and beef with mushrooms. Both unreal. The shrimp are huge, I've had the same dish twice since. The beef is incredibly tender and has not just mushrooms but veggies too. Both dishes easily feed two people with good appetites. We used to go to this place for about 20 or so years until 2 weekends ago. There is a fellow at the reception desk who is abrupt, with a sharp Nd disrespectful tongue and very sarcastic with our host (a party of 10 or more people always goes with us for parties and get-togethers). This particular fellow has no place in a public establishment like this! This is my hidden gem for a restaurant. It is by far my favorite place fo both Chinese food and sushi. My boyfriend and I usually sit at the sushi bar because now we have become regulars. We don't even have to have a menu anymore because they will give us sushi until we are stuffed. The sushi is SO fresh. They are absolutely pros and so nice. Restaurant is very clean as well and the food is served wicked fast. The Mai Tais are definitely their signature drink, quite strong but quite delicious. When I had first came to this restaurant for our first date, I had never tried sushi before. They started off with California rolls and now, I'm actually eating raw sushi with a delicious glaze. I've grown highly addicted to sushi lately. And I've been trying it EVERYWHERE. This place is as good as it gets. I went for the all you can eat buffet which they have until 2:30pm daily. It's about $11.50 and just imagine all you can eat sushi (and amazingly tasking sushi), for $11.50/person. On top of that they have all the typical Asian cuisine dishes (also all you can eat). I only like to rate places that are a 5/5 and this place has been a consistent favorite for me for a few years. Keep in mind: I've brought at least 5-9 NEW people there throughout the years that had never been there, and they are all now addicted to it and bringing their own friends. The food was really good ! It's buffet style . When me and my boyfriend went into the restaurant at 5:00 they were doing a shift change and putting new platters of food out , which was ok but there was no way for us to know that . There was no sign, no fence to block us off from starting the buffet with what was there , so we began the buffet and a server who was continuing to out food out raised her hands at us to "stop !" So we paused and noticed other ppl coming in about 5 ppl behind is that started the buffet too and they got yelled at too ! Lol we just waited a few seconds and proceeded the buffet . The food was hot , it was better when it first came out, after a while under all the lights it got a little dry . The ice cream bar was a little skimp and the sushi bar wasn't that good . At one point the lady inside the buffet spilled water all over the floor and just kinda of left it . The server was at our table only two times , three times if you wanna count her bringing the check. She took plates and brought us water . When we got the check we were really surprised the price , it was about 47.00 for the two of us to eat, rather more expensive than we thought it would be . If we knew it was going to be that much we could have got delivery from our favorite Chinese spot. We gave our server the money and asked for our change back because we needed the singles (dollars) and we were going to give her a solid 5.00 , but she didn't bring our change back .We had to repeatedly ask for our change back and she said " you want your three dollars back !?" and it seems as if she decided it was already her tip , that was rude we ended up not even tipping. A friend introduced me to this restaurant a couple of weeks and I have been wanting to go back ever since! First the ambiance itself is very nice(host was a bit snotty but oh well). Our waiter was phenomenal and extremely pleasant! We enjoyed the Shrimp Lettuce Wrap, out of this world! Also ordered the Idaho Maki (sweet potato tempura in a rolled sushi), fantastic! And last we had the Basil Treasure. For the most part I enjoyed this, my friend loved it. I found out I'm not that big of a fan of Basil and didn't care for the shrimp & scallops but the chicken was good. I'm a seafood fanatic so have pretty high standards and am particular, most will probably enjoy this dish...the taste of the basil was just too overwhelming for me. We ordered takeout. A small soup, boneless sparerib, three main dishes. The total was $50. The portions are ridiculously small and I got more fortune cookies in my bag then pieces of spare rib. The food is good, but for the price you can find better. I suggest they pay more attention to serving the customer with an adequate amount of food for that kind of money, and less time stuffing the bag with fortune cookies and other condiments. read more
