Came here on a random weekday and probably 1/3 of the place was full. Lots of seating and the restaurant is very clean. This place had one server at the time and operated orders with an iPad and had another person who ran food. I mention this because it makes everything so much more streamline from the table to kitchen. Thus, the food came out fast! Our server was very attentive even while taking care of other tables. We got the: Basil Popcorn Chicken: Delicious!! Wonderful appetizer. Comes out hot and crunchy! Crabmeat and Crawfish Bao: Good. My friend doesn't eat pork, so it's a great substitution for protein. Szechuan Style Beef: I was blown away at this dish! Server recommended it. Super vibrant dish with tender beef. Wasn't too spicy, but could be spicy for some people. Lots of spices and flavor! Pan Fried Noodle: Not sure what I was expecting here, but I assumed it was going to be a tossed noodle. Nonetheless, it was your usual "birds nest"/crispy fried egg noodle with vegetables and shrimp on top. It was very fresh!! After hearing mixed reviews I decided to give this place a try. I ordered pickup, which I can always appreciate a smooth and easy pickup process. Restaurant had an ok crowd but it wasn't too packed. The staff were really friendly. This was my third visit but my first and second visits experience were better, I feel as though the rice lacked flavor this time. The shumai was really good but there was this weird flavor to it but I liked it regardless. The sauce was a good addition to it. Dined here yesterday for dinner. The restaurant is quaint and cozy. Our server Ethan was attentive and helped me make some great selections. I started with egg drop soup and it was great. It was silky and flavorful just like I like. I also got the salt and pepper wings which was delicious, not spicy but very flavorful. For my entree I got the shrimp and eggplant combo dinner with shrimp fried rice which I really enjoyed. Had we stopped there this would be a 5 star review but I got takeout for my son and his rice had no flavor. He complained to me and I said it tastes good to me so he asked me to tastes his and he was correct it tasted like they forgot a step or 3. His rice tasted nothing like mine. Consistency is important so I hope this was a one off and not a regular occurrence. I would return but not for takeout so that any errors that occur can be corrected in real time. read more

This was one of the best meals I've had in a long time! At our table we ordered- lettuce wraps, pan fried noodles with beef, moo go gai pan with chicken and walnut shrimp. All was fantastic. I stopped by Bamboo House and tried their all-day combo special, and I'm so glad I did! I ordered the chicken with string beans, and it came with pork fried rice and a spring roll. Everything was fresh, hot, and really satisfying. The chicken and string beans were especially flavorful and juicy with good portions for $12. I placed a to-go order, and it was ready in under 10 minutes, which was super convenient. While I was waiting, I noticed how cute and inviting the dining room was, so I'll definitely be coming back to dine in next time. The service really stood out. OMG! The food! Looking for quality Chinese for an early Saturday dinner. Chose this place for its convenient location on/off Veterans and the Yelp rating. Greeted immediately in this open space seating restaurant with lots of natural light. Server was ready to take our order ASAP, but told him was our first visit, we needed a minute. We did ask what the people behind us were eating because it looked divine. He told us, took our drink order and departed. Ultimately we ordered 2 meals: the spicy Honey Chicken w/white rice and the Beef with Hot Garlic Sauce w/pork fried rice. Each came with a spring roll. We had the dumpling appetizers explained, gave our server some of our preferences and told him to just bring us one of the choices he would order. We ended up with steamed pork bao, and they were SO good! First time for my husband, and he's hooked. The white rice with the chicken was perfectly cooked - something I always admire since I can't do it. The Honey Chicken was flavorful without being too hot; no veggies, which was fine with the husband. My Beef with Hot Garlic had tons of veggies, including lotus root! I haven't had that in over a decade, and there were 6 large pieces in my meal. I thought I won the lottery. Service was very good. It was a team effort, which I really appreciate. All the orders were taken on ipads around the servers' necks so everyone could access. Check out was painless. Bamboo House is a great new place in Metairie to take the whole family out for authentic Chinese. The popular pork xiao long bao (soup dumplings) are very good and more homestyle (thicker skin and a lot more meat inside vs Din Tai Fung). They also had tender snow pea shoots, which is a sign of being a very authentic place as you wont find this at most places. We also enjoyed the crispy fried yellow noodles with saucy beef and vegetables on too. We will be back! read more

I didn't realize when we decided to try this place that it's in the location that was Royal China (who's dim sum menu I miss dearly). You wouldn't recognize it by looking at the building, it's totally renovated and sort of the opposite ambiance. Everything is bright and open. The service was fine, we got what we asked for, though some things (like utensils) I would have preferred to have just been at the table. But this might be my new go to for simple, well cooked Chinese food in the city. The menu has typical American Chinese dishes, but also has some dishes that hint at authenticity in the kitchen. We had the crabmeat and crawfish Xiao long bao, which were quite large and very tasty, Curry seafood, which was the Chinese style yellow curry that I grew up with, with large shrimp, pieces of fish, and sizeable but not overly chewy squid, and a good amount of peppers and onions to balance. The shocker for me though was the salt and pepper tofu. My partner and I have a favorite place to get this fish in Austin, and have been working on trying to replicate it at home since he doesn't go there for work much anymore. When I saw this dish hit the table tonight I was underwhelmed. The tofu didn't look battered or seasoned at all, and the only accompaniment were large slices of jalapeno. But one bite and I did a full 180. The tofu was clearly brined, and whatever it was fried in was so flavorful! I didn't even miss the batter because they somehow got the exterior crispy. Definitely will be back to try more things, excited to have another spot with more than serviceable Chinese food in the city! read more

The West Lake beef soup is a favorite silky and warming and the beef chow fun (wet) is never to be missed. Bamboo House is a great addition to the area. The space is open and inviting, and bright. The staff here are friendly, regardless of any screaming kids running around. The food here is probably one of the more authentic Chinese places around + the food is delicious and flavorful. My favorites are the chicken and eggplant, fried tofu, snow peas. and the beef chow fun. I love the veggie options here compared to others and the menu offers a wonderful variety of food for everyone. The portion sizes here are generous compared to others. Came for dinner on a Monday night. Place is clean and cute on the inside. Had a good amount of tables and was pretty crowded for a Monday. Our server was attentive. However we weren't wowed by the food. The best part was definitely the xian long bao. They were hot, fresh and tasty. But the ginger that came with it tasted old. The duck came out steaming hot, but wish it came with vegetables or something. The menu wasn't clear on what it came with. The shrimp were delicious, but were not nearly as hot and fresh as the duck which was disappointing. Overall, it was good but not great. Pretty cheap prices though which was nice. read more

I stopped in for lunch yesterday and am impressed with the service I received. I was seated right away, and my booth was very spacious and super clean. Also, I loved that the space is so bright and open. I ordered sesame tofu, which wasn't on the menu, but my server explained that it was no problem to swap out the chicken on the lunch menu for tofu. My food arrived and was hot and tasty. My water glass was always full, and I was checked on regularly. I'll definitely be back. read more

I went here with friends to celebrate Chinese New Year and we shared the tofu, lo mein, kung pao chicken, and shu mai, all of which were good. I haven't tried too many places for chinese food in NOLA, but I was pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of options here, notably a few more traditional chinese dishes on the menu. Entrees took a very long time to come out and only got 3 of the 4 at the same time. Never checked on us and we had to flag them down to pay. Very noisy so hard to hear dinner guests at table. Good place to get dim sum in New Orleans. The place is very nice with a large menu. They open up pretty late and have an all day dim sum it looks like. I ordered the shu mai, har gow, and the crab and crawfish xao long bao. Overall, it was more expensive than I'd like especially compared to other places that I know. While they were all good in their own rights, the shrimp dumpling had a funny taste to it, the shu mai pretty good, the xao long bao didn't have a strong flavor as I would like, but very filling. This is my second time eating here, first time was take out. The food was an improvement over the takeout. The inside is just beautiful! Bright and open, such an improvement from Royal China. My husband and I both said the food was much better than our takeout meal. The service however, was very lacking. There appeared to be only 1 server taking orders for the entire restaurant which seated at least 75. It was almost impossible to get the server's attention because she was so busy. There were 4 in my party and all of our meals came out at different times, with the first coming at least 5 (or more) minutes before the next one. I really hope they get their act together on the service. They have so much potential! read more
