    The Chicken Burrito
    Franchesca L.

I'm a big fan of the OG chicken rice here and service is always fast. Their chicken and rice is simple, yet delicious. Their sauces are also yummy! I noticed a new chicken burrito menu item and tried it for the first time today. There's cheese, sour cream, chicken, and rice inside the burrito. The order comes with a side of tortilla chips with pico de gallo and habanero sour cream. I'm not sure I would get it again, but it was an interesting new item for sure.

I love the happy hour. Got the all dark haianese chicken, generous portion andhas a delicious sauce. The server was really helpful and friendly. The place is clean and spacious. I joined their rewards program and I will continue eating here when Iam in the area.

I ordered the mini marina for portion and weight control. Gotta get rid of my beer belly somehow. Sauce is finger licking good, in my opinion of course. Came into an empty store so felt like I had VIP treatment. Environment is simply serenity. Recommend with my utmost respectful regards.

First time trying Rooster & Rice and was happy to there at the right time for their weekday happy hour prices (25% off their entire menu at 2-4pm Monday-Friday). I ordered their original, which was breast and thigh over rice with a side of chicken broth. Some parts of the chicken were a bit dry, but overall the meal was still satisfying. Having the chicken broth alongside it helped alot. The staff was super friendly and even brought my food to the table. They have a few tables inside, and the location is right near the main mall entrance.

Came here with a group of friends before watching a movie together. Good: - The portion sizes are good and the price isn't too bad - The food here feels very healthy, I got the original bowl with no modifications - The service is decently fast as well Bad: - It doesn't have much seating so we had to leave to go sit somewhere - I don't like how bland the chicken and rice gets after having more than half of it Overall this was an average location for what I've tried, I've had better Rooster and Rices in the past.

I went here for their 25% off happy hour between 2-4pm Monday to Fridays and their last opening hour (you have to order with staff to receive the discount). I've eaten a good amount of khao mun gai in my life from various tech food trucks, places in Silicon Valley, and from Rooster & Rice itself so knew what to expect. This location is pretty small but clean. I've eaten here when they first opened, and portions have gotten smaller. What is Rooster & Rice? Pretty much that - a bowl of chicken and rice, typically yellow skin poached chicken with chicken infused rice. Rooster & Rice's dishes come with a small side of a concentrated zesty soy sauce, a side of chicken broth, sliced plain cucumbers, garnished with a sprig of cilantro. - The Original I always get the option with skin-on chicken because that's the best part of Hainan chicken. Unfortunately, the only option with skin-in chicken also includes the skinless breast. All chicken pieces were nicely tender, though sauce is needed for the breast. I'm sad that they don't include ginger scallion sauce automatically. It's a good healthy meal with no bones in the chicken, though truly expensive for chicken and rice. The broth was soothing and tasted of clean wholesome chicken. - Hat Yai Chicken rice with hard fried chicken. It was kind of bland and there was no crunch; it was more tough than crispy. Comes with not enough sweet chili sauce for the chicken. I would definitely not order this again as it was not appetizing or filling. - Chicken Springroll (half) Surprised you can order this as a half portion, which works for me since I like cheaper options for tasting. It's just a spring roll with strips of chicken pieces inside, and delicious peanut sauce. The rice wrapper was very bouncy and moist. - Thai Tea It's a small bottle of what tastes like strong Thai tea imported from Thailand. I like that Rooster & Rice branched out to other chicken dishes that I'd come back to try again, though I wouldn't expect big portions. If you want a healthy light meal, this is a good option. They automatically add a 4.5% surcharge - thanks SF!

The Original Khao Mun Gai - Chicken Breast and Chicken Thigh Skin On with Chicken Rice, Cucumber, KMG Sauce, and Chicken Broth

Back in the before times (aka pre-COVID), when I used to go into an office every day, Rooster & Rice was one of my go-to options for lunch. However, it's no coincidence that I haven't ordered from them since then. Although they were decent enough, I never thought their signature chicken and rice offerings (Khao Mun Gai) were as good as similar dishes I could get elsewhere either. As such, I can't say I've had much of a reason to get it since then. After discovering they now had an outpost up at Stonestown, though, I couldn't resist my curiosity's urge to see if the food was any different than I remember! Located just inside the front entrance to the mall (across from Blaze Pizza), this place is quite modest in size. While they do have some seating of its own, there are only a couple of tables inside, along with a handful of counter seats if you want to dine-in (or you can head up to the food court). Similarly, the menu isn't very extensive either, but it did include a few items I don't recall seeing before, such as their Khao Tom Gai, Hat Yai Fried Chicken and Chicken Burrito. Even still, since I was mostly just curious about how my old go-to order tasted these days, I already knew before I even walked in I was going to get THE ORIGINAL KHAO MUN GAI ($15.45). Consisting of chicken breast and chicken thigh with skin on, chicken rice, cucumber, cilantro (blech), their KMG sauce and chicken broth, this may not be the prettiest thing to look at, but it's a fairly decent amount of food for the money. On the plus side, the chicken itself was tender, well cooked, and I liked that it didn't have any tendon/muscles in it. As for the rice, it was a bit clumpy, but, surprisingly, not mushy/overcooked. All of that having been said, I don't remember the chicken nor the rice tasting so...plain. To be clear, that's not to say it was "bland"; it's just that the chicken tasted like just that (no seasoning) and the rice only had a faint taste of chicken to it. Granted, that's what their KMG sauce is for, and it is quite flavorful, but it's just my memory of it is different. Considering all of the conveniences that they have to offer (plenty of parking, not much of a line, potentially "healthier" than some of the other eateries in the mall, and even happy hour pricing if you come at certain times), Rooster & Rice is a fine option for something simple and easy. However, to me, there's no question that you can find options that are both more interesting and tastier elsewhere.

Came here after eating blaze pizza food here is very quick and good. I love the ambience here the Homie Arron Kai did a lot of the artwork with the waves on it and the ambience is very quiet. Very mellow restaurant food is a 10 out of 10 and service. Here is really amazing.

Food was good service was good but portion too small for $16. If you're a big eater you needed to order 2. It is located inside the stonestown mall.

Dare I say, it's the best jook (porridge) i've ever had! Khao Tom Gai FTW! My gosh, I love it! You need to try it. So good that I ordered via Ubereats yesterday and braved Stonestown Mall and its lack of parking today. Among all of the Chicken and Rice places that opened these last decade in SF, i still find Rooster and Rice to be the cleanest tasting one. I remember going to this place at least twice a week for lunch (at the Marina district) The KMG and Habanero sauces are bomb.com and are absolutely a must whenever you order "The Original" Regarding this branch at Stonestown, for some reason, there's always something that goes wrong though. Forgets to provide utensils even when asked, Forgets to take out the cucumbers even when asked to and so on. Also, the habanero sauces yesterday and today were brown.. i know i haven't had it for a few months but isn't it usually orange? Still tasted yum yum yum though.

Rooster & Rice is a go-to for a healthy meal. Really tasty chicken and the rice full of chicken flavor is so special. We've had it more than 5+ times now and food's been consistently good. It is also a more peaceful experience than the crowded tables at the food court upstairs or waiting in long lines at other asian restaurants. Service is always nice.

We ordered the Papaya Salad, Veg Spring Rolls, House Favorite Yellow Curry, Eggplant Basil, Pad Kee Mao, and White Rice. The Papaya Salad was a bit disappointing. It was overly sour and tasted more citrusy than fresh and lime-forward. The Veg Spring Rolls were fine, but nothing particularly memorable. The biggest letdown was the Yellow Curry. It lacked the rich flavor I typically expect from a Thai curry, and some of the vegetables seemed undercooked. The Eggplant Basil was also underwhelming. It lacked the distinct basil flavor that the dish is known for. Since we ordered the vegetarian version, it came loaded with a mix of other vegetables, which made it feel more like a generic vegetable stir-fry than an eggplant basil dish. The Pad Kee Mao was the standout of the meal. It had good flavor and was enjoyable, although the portion size felt a bit small for the price. Overall, the food was ok, but nothing really stood out. I've had better Thai food elsewhere, both in terms of flavor and value. While the experience wasn't bad, it wasn't memorable enough to make me want to return. For the price point, I expected more authentic flavors and better execution.

I only knocked the restaurant down by a star because the servers were pretty pushy with wanting us to leave despite the multitude of empty tables around us. Besides that, the food is really delicious. The papaya salad is amazing if you like spice! There was a great kick and acidity to the papaya salad distributed throughout the fresh vegetables in the dish. I highly recommend! The pumpkin fries were also a great choice: crispy fry with soft pumpkin inside, maintaining the overall pumpkin flavor profile. The sauce they provide on the side (sweet and sour plum sauce), cut through the fry but didn't overwhelm the pumpkin itself. For myself, I got the yellow curry with chicken. The curry dishes do not come with rice, so you will have to order that on the side. The curry is not only a generous portion, but FULL of ingredients.
