It's great that this place offers vegan options! But this review is simply based on what my brother and I both tried. My brother got one of the burritos with red chili sauce, but he said it was not even spicy and the burrito was just okay. I tried the VBLT, and I felt the same. It tasted like a homemade sandwich with barely any sauce/flavoring. I feel like the sandwich was okay but it was small and there was not much substance to the sandwich. I hope to try the burritos or mac and cheese later since that is what they are really known for anyways. The people are nice, the place is kind of small and the food is alright. Having lived in New Mexico for a number of years, I know the value of the delicious Hatch green chilli. This place specializes in items with green chiles! I had a yummy southwest chicken salad, but a number of my group tried to burritos, as well and they looked phenomenal. The service was outstanding, the owner (I assume) took time to explain everything on the menu in detail and gave our group of kids free hot chocolate while they snacked. read more

This is my 100th review, and I've chosen Bang Bang Cafe because it is my favorite. It has taken me four years to get here, reviewing 99 businesses -- mostly restaurants -- across a range of quality, price points, service level, ambience, authenticity, hype ... for my fellow reviewers, you know the drill. I've tried to be thoughtful in my reviews and, where appropriate, humorous. A couple of B.S. reviews contribute to the local flavor, like of "Yelp Girl Collectors" (you know who you are) and of that lame congressman who brown nosed to the same BP execs who have polluted our gulf waters. Yelp even pulled one because it violated the terms of service. (If you have to ask, it was a tirade against the Seattle Center for jamming through a parking proposal that was detrimental to the disabled -- but this review isn't about that, or else it'd be another TOS violation.). ;) Like the timeline I've described above, the route that I take to Bang Bang Cafe is similarly circuitous. I travel from the Eastside down route 520 and cross the bridge, bypassing John Howie and the now-closed Artisanal. My trip continues down I-5 and exits into downtown Seattle. Numerous other restaurants roll by, restaurants that are delicious or are "destination places" or are both -- fabulous Restaurant Zoe; the burgeoning Tom Douglas mini-empire; romantic Chez Shea; great Chinese and Japanese restaurants in the International District; the holy sandwich trinity of Paseo, Salumi, and Tat's; and countless others. You can even glimpse the hustle and bustle of the never-boring Pike Place Market flit by. These are all a blur because I am determined to reach my destination: Bang Bang Cafe for their breakfast burritos. I first came here by way of John L.'s breakfast Yelp events (just click on the Events tab above), where I had the pleasure of breaking bread with John, Daren, Elise, Kimber, Nerick, Judy and Zak -- all are Yelpers. It was then that I tried the eponymous Bang Bang Burrito, and have been going back for this ever since. The Bang Bang Burrito is filled with smoky roasted potatoes, beans, eggs and their secret, addictive ingredient -- a red sauce that is made of dried, ripened New Mexico chiles. This red sauce has an Old-World, soulful, smoky taste that imparts a gradual heat that is nice at the beginning, but has me wiping my forehead at the end of my meal. They wrap this in a flour tortilla, and top it with a bit of melted cheese and a combination of that same red sauce and their green sauce, which is made of the unripened chiles and has a milder, tangier flavor. The nutty roasted flavor of an Americano plays well with that red sauce. I have had the briny, flash-then-fade spiciness of Korean foods all my life, and also enjoy the slow-building, lingering burn of certain Indian cuisines. I've tried the searing sensation of Szechuan cooking. But this soulful, flavorful build-up of heat is something that I could eat every day for the rest of my life. They have a vegan Mac 'n Cheese that is also delicious, with a smoky spiciness to it as well. I wish I could tell you more about the other items on their menu, but I keep getting the same thing. Bang Bang Cafe is owned and run by two sisters, Yuki and Miki, who are friendly and cool, and who remember their customers -- even an old curmudgeon like me. The cafe's ambience is simple and clean, and is in a relatively quiet neighborhood. The food and coffee are very reasonably priced. They also have free wifi, and parking (metered) is usually not that hard to find. One hundred is an arbitrary number. But it feels nice to slow down, take a breather, and look around. I encourage you to do the same at Bang Bang Cafe. And try that red sauce ... 'cause sweating is good for you. read more

But one step through the door of this little café and I'm sure they could cure even a Sinatra-level heartache. Small and bright, they boast free WiFi and a fair amount of seating if you avoid rush hour meal times. As soon as you hit the counter, someone is smiling back at your ready to take your order. And order up you will from a drool-worthy blackboard menu full of organic, vegan, meaty, healthy or not-so-healthy options to jump start your day or give a midday boost. I took the suggestion from yelpers here and ordered myself a Bang Bang Burrito with sausage and avocado additions. Served up like a little beanie baby on a ceramic platter, I only got through half the thing in one sitting. Loved that it wasn't greasy and dripping all over the place and the vegan cheese was identical to the regular version. Take note that the hatch chili sauces aren't very hot at all - which is just how I like 'em. All in all, a great little casual café. It's counter service and coffee shop style so don't go expecting a restaurant experience. And hey, bring your beau - it's hard to shoot someone down when you've got a tummy full of yummy. read more

I don't know where to start. It's like writing poetry for someone you love, but the words you write cant invoke the depth of emotions you actually feel. That's what Bang Bang Café is to me. No, it's not fancy. And no- there is no wait service. But please, PLEASE tip the friendly people behind the bar. They are amazingly nice and I want them to be in their jobs forever. The space is pretty small. Lots of 2-top tables, and one 6-top table, plus some bar seating. I've always found a seat here, and sometimes it's not even hard- but I don't recommend coming with a group bigger than 3 or 4 or you might have a wait. Street parking is ok. Ok- the food! The fooooooooood! Without fail, I order a vegan mac and cheese for the table. Everyone thanks me and eats it with pleasure. It's salty/savory/hearty happiness piled into a bowl. I'm not even vegan OR vegetarian! I love it. The second thing I get is a breakfast sandwich on a bagel with cheese and veggie sausage. They have morning star sausage here (for anyone who has had that, they know that it's the best ever)! I can also recommend the Bang Bang Burrito with an add-in of veggie sausage. The coffee here is good. Nothing amazing, but nothing wrong with it either. The pastries are also good, but it's kind of a given that they're not as good as the hot food. Moral of the story- don't come here with your dance troop to eat greasy hashbrowns/ to kill a hangover. It's not that kind of place. If this wasn't a well intentioned breakfast brought home by my boyfriend, I would have walked back to Bang Bang and thrown my burrito at the window. I'm offended that someone would serve this. TL;DR: Bang Bang hits the mark on what it ought to be, and I'll continue coming here as long as it remains convenient for me to do so. TL;GonnaReadAnyway: It's high time I update my review from the time I tried it once a few years back. I now work in the area and actually pass by each morning between my parking deck and my office. As a consequence, because of the convenience, I have stopped in here more than a couple times in the past year or so. I mainly still get the Bang Bang burrito, which is the burrito profiled in my initial review. I'm more of a fan of it nowadays than I was back then. I think this is part me acknowledging that it's a reasonable burrito, and part me not having lived in New Mexico for coming up on a decade now. I've visited the southwest recently enough to be reminded of the glory of a truly dazzling breakfast burrito, and a Bang Bang burrito does not quite measure up in this regard, but let's be real, this is not exactly a fair comparison, and you know this if you've ever gone catatonic while cramming a Golden Pride or Twister's down your gullet. There be magic in those genuine southwest breakfast burritos. Still, when I've stayed out a little too late the previous night, and can still taste it in my mouth, there's nothing like a Bang Bang burrito to try to put that behind me in a way that a bagel sandwich or pastry can not. Also, I used to really enjoy the MBLT sandwich--a BLT made with Morningstar facon instead of regular bacon. It was a simple affair, but well-executed, and generous with the delicious, delicious facon. Unfortunately, Bang Bang pulled this from the menu some time ago, so now it lives only in my memory or in my kitchen, if I'm feeling inspired. Between you and me, though, I haven't felt inspired yet, so really, it only lives in my memory. You might be well served to call your order in ahead if time is a concern. Although the staff is friendly, tearing through orders at at frenetic pace is not how things work here. Sit down, read an article on your phone. Enjoy the whimsical battle cat artwork on the walls. Your burrito will be ready when it's ready. You might have trouble finding a seat, though, if it's moderately busy. There are about five tables for two, window seating along the northern wall, and one table that can accommodate six to eight people, or a couple smaller groups who aren't afraid of sitting near strangers. There are outdoor two-tops for when the weather cooperates. The seating area and counter are always very clean; they do a good job of keeping an inviting space. It's not exactly cheap, but most things at counter-service shops and food trucks seem to cost more than I feel like they "should" nowadays, so this isn't exactly shocking. It just means that's what things cost now. My typical order of a Bang Bang burrito and a tall almond milk latte comes out to $14 and change after tax and tip. Bonus points for the place no longer smelling heavily of well-done fryer oil on the verge of its smoke point, and a bonus star for allowing me to bring my pup inside while I wait for take out, or when I dine in with coworkers, and having a jar of apparently-delicious MudBay treats that she loves to beg for while I wait for my food. read more

I confess, I am a sucker for a fantastic breakfast burrito, and these folks do 'em with panache. They're huge, they're packed full of delicious ingredients, and they average about five bucks, which is unheard of when it comes to most breakfast joints. The service is always fast and friendly, as is a pleasant staple with most brekkie joints, and I have nothing to complain about thus far in the couple of times I've been here. Bang Bang Burrito - The adult in me loves this burrito because it is a huge, filling breakfast, it has fresh eggs, cheese, and potatos, the chiles are yummy and the turkey sausage is great. The kid in me loves it because it's a euphemism for sex. Do you see what they did there? Spinach, artichoke and parmesan Bagel - In the defense of logic, I feel it would be pretty hard to screw up a powerhouse of flavors like those included in this magnificent sandwich, but nonetheless, they do it well and it tastes superb. I am a mac and cheese-asaurus...a connoisseur of ooey gooey dripping noodles (RIP, Rosebud), always on the hunt for that blessed trifecta of flavor, richness, and pasta consistency. Today, my partner and I headed to Bang Bang after doing a little Yelp research on vegan restaurants. We ordered 2 vegan mac and cheeses and 1 vegan burrito. And just so you know - the mere SAYING the word vegan gives me the jeebies, but I smiled on through the ordering process. I heart my healthy veggie girlfriend. And I committed to this damn cleanse. Folks...Listen. To. Me. If I could have Bang Bang's mac and cheese every day - I could BE a vegan. Like seriously, homemade-vegetable-inked "VEGN4EVA" knuckle tattoo, Tom's wearing, but-yeast-is-alive-too --- vegan. To be honest, when it first came out and I saw it's not-yellow color, I was a little hesitant. But the second the mac and cheese made contact with my mouth, I melted. I couldn't stop eating it. I couldn't stop asking my partner to please please please please please...TRY to make something like this for me. I inhaled it. I simultaneously wanted to share it with everyone I knew and keep this place Allll to mysellllfff, my precioussss.... Good Lord! The customer service we experienced was fantastic--very friendly, very fast on the food prep, very personalized experience from the people who worked there - so refreshing! The menu is laid out and prominently displayed (the mac and cheese is, however, unfortunately, all the way at the bottom so you gotta look for it!) There was plenty of paid street parking, and while there were several people enjoying their meals while we were there, it was still comfortable with a few seating options. Oh -- and last but not least, it was absolutely fairly priced - something that is a rarity in Seattle. We will be back. Soon. Probably next week. And the week after. I didn't care for the burrito too much (something in the veggie mix made it sweet and I'm not a sweet food person, barring desserts), but the mac and cheese more than made up for it. I have a confession to make. I hated Bang Bang Cafe the minute their sign went up across the street from my apartment. I mean... who in their right mind would have a western themed name and sign that in no way resembles their interior decor or menu??? Then I had their breakfast burrito. And all is forgiven. The breakfast burritos are amazing! It has a homey flavor with only the freshest ingredients you would use in your own kitchen. The potatoes are flavorful and roasted to perfection. The eggs are fluffy, the veggies grilled, and the red/green chili sauce adds just the right amount of smokiness. My carnivorous self didn't even miss the meat in this vegan burrito! To top it off, do yourself a favor and try a warm sticky bun or cherry muffin. Your carb craving taste buds will thank you. read more

This place is awesome, I frequent this place during my breaks during school. Nothing like a great caffeine filled drink to last through a long day of class, they really hit the spot. Since I'm a regular the barista gives me free double shots every now and then. I guess on some days I really looked tired. The staff is super friendly and they actually take time in getting to know you. The food here is also pretty good. The sandwiches they make are all very tasty. Let this be a lesson to you, Deanna, there are other coffee places besides Starbucks (they usually disappoint you though ;) First of all, ask the sisters how the cafe got its name and they'll tell you. The dark haired sister I talked to was so nice, and I got such a "welcome to my coffee place" vibe from her. Peeking at the syrups, I saw strawberry. "Can I have a strawberry latte?" "Of course you can, that sounds good!" And it was. I like to have soy, too. It was a very yummie strawberry soy latte, let me tell you. They have such cool flavors, mix it up. Get a mint iced coffee or something ;) We also had breakfast here and that was tasty too. I love sitting by the fireplace-a perfect setting to go with your coffee and the rain outside. I admired the cute to-go cups and sticker that have the Bang Bang logo, and I was told to help myself. I don't feel guilty at all for cheating on Starbucks. As one loses their carnivorous feathers, and begins to develop their soothing vegetarian glow, they quickly discover the wonder of breakfast burritos. Actually, nearly any combination of non-meats wrapped in a tortilla. If a restaurant follows this easy formula, it is generally pretty difficult to mess up. Barring some sort of tragic torching, cinnamon spicing, or oil soaking, I don't know that I have ever had a really terrible breakfast burrito. After a while, I decided that it was time to seek out the best breakfast burrito; A burrito masterwork, if you will. Much like, say, the Beatles musical catalog, its is possible to spend a great deal of time eating breakfast burritos before developing a discerning taste. However, eventually, one begins to seek out a "Day in the Life" burrito, and tires of a more run of the mill "Yellow Submarine," or "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" burrito. Well, I found what I consider the pinnacle of the breakfast burrito; the echelon of this breakfast favorite... and it's located here. BEHOLD: The sausage burrito with veggie sausage. VERY IMPORTANT: Ask for chile sauce. Its only .75 cents extra. Do it. Really. The red chili sauce they pour atop is mindbogglingly flavorful. Very spicy (which I enjoy), but sacrifices no taste whatsoever. The potatoes and eggs contained within the savory tortilla are perfectly prepared, and the veggie sausage is fantastic. Unlike breakfast burritos that overwhelm with a kitchen sink flurry of ingredients (olives, avocado, cauliflower, and on and on) this breakfast burrito is unbelievably simple. The melted cheese on top blends with the red chili sauce, and it really is delicious. Honestly, it has to be tried to be explained. The drip coffee is fantastic, the staff is conscientious, kind, and outgoing. The only thing that the Bang Bang Cafe leaves to be desired is more seating, but it is difficult to fault such a sublime eatery on their lack of space; the size restrictions are what they are. To wrap up (bad pun ABSOLUTELY intended) it would be a crime to miss their breakfast burrito. I look forward to trying their lunch time options in the coming weeks. I started going to the Bang Bang occasionally a couple of months ago as it is close to where I live. I wasn't sure what to expect at first, but I'm a huge fan now! Bang Bang basically has two "sides" to the business (not literally or practically, but metaphorically - it's all one shop). One is a regular coffee house, like many others in the area. Lots of people swing by here and get their lattes to go, etc. The other side is their hot food options, the highlight being the much-ballyhooed breakfast burritos. The coffee is just ok, and the burritos are varied, delicious, and customizable (Morningstar sausage or bacon, add sour cream, etc.). Oh, and the red/green Hatch chile sauce they put on the burritos is great! What makes Bang Bang special, though, is the service. The staff is prompt, attentive, and simply don't screw around when it comes to helping customers. The people running the till do a nice job of balancing small-talk and barista chatter with keeping the line moving. The dude that's usually running the small kitchen (Victor?) is awesome - super helpful, great conversationalist, and a damn good cook. You'd think he owned the place from how much pride he puts in his work. Even though it's a small place, seating perhaps 20 at a time, and often quiet, it never feels awkward. I like how they manage to maintain a balance between walk-up counter and full-service. You walk up, order, find a table, and they bring you food, coffee, and utensils. I usually don't like that sort of system, but they pull it off. The ambiance is a little lacking, but if you want a no-hassle breakfast that's tasty at a fair price, this is the spot! read more

No use crying over spilt coffee? These sisters were super sweet to this clumsy patron, who tipped over his 16 oz drip coffee onto the table and floor beneath. I felt very badly about it and was quite embarrassed, but they insisted on not letting me help clean up my own mess and reassured me they spill stuff all the time, going so far as to humble themselves by one-upping my fumble with their own spillage exploits (something about "raw eggs all over" herself stands out in my mind). The Harvest Breakfast Burrito was delicious, with perfectly seasoned potatoes, fluffy eggs, and tasty grilled veggies. I would personally add bacon and/or sausage, but I suspect that may cause offense to their predominantly-vegetarian menu... and my New Year's resolution to trim the Christmas insulation I built up over the course of an indulgent 2009. This was our first place to hit while we were in Seattle. We were hungry (flew in the night before) and were ready to explore the city, so we needed some serious business food. Breakfast burritos it is! I got an iced chai (it was a warm morning) and a burrito with cheese, eggs, potatoes, avocado and roasted vegetables in a tortilla. It was good, I would probably eat there again if I was around. The vegetables were tasty (broccoli and spinach, mostly) and the burrito had a nice ratio of ingredients. The barista had some amazing double layer sunglasses, which added a point of awesome. Another point of awesome was earned when I saw drawings of cats going into battle all over the place. This pleased me greatly. I also liked their vegan selections, which is a rare find in Chicago. I'm not vegan, but it's nice to see that's becoming more a mainstream choice at restaurants. read more

For some reason, before I went here I had it in my head that Bang Bang is strictly vegan. Not so. Nor is it strictly vegetarian. But, they do have some awesome options for those who are so inclined - the vegan mac & cheese in particular is out of this world. Last time we went, I had that dish and boyfriend had the real-cheese-full Southwest mac & cheese. The vegan mac & cheese was a clear winner. In chatting with the girl at the counter, she revealed that it was her boyfriend's recipe and that he has been working on it for ten years. I can believe it - this stuff is great. Bang Bang is a cafe/bakery, so you're covered from soups to sandwiches to cookies. They also make a great soy latte. The atmosphere is cozy and laid back - maybe not the most comfortable of chairs, but there's a fire place and awesome artwork of cats and mice going to war on the walls. Add to that the brightly colored walls, and it's a perfect place to spend an hour or so on a gray Seattle morning. Bang Bang is super puppy friendly too - they keep a box of doggie treats on hand just for your four-legged friends, and they don't expect your dog to wait outside in the rain while you finish your soup. Unfortunately, their hours are limited enough that I can only make it over on Saturdays... though maybe that's not a terrible thing, otherwise I'm sure I'd be OD'd on mac & cheese by now. read more

During our four day trip to Seattle, we managed to go to Bang Bang twice. The first time they had staff training on the register, so service was a bit slow. The owner/manager, however, was super awesome about it. Once the rush died down, she came around making sure everyone was enjoying everything, explaining why there had been a delay, and giving everyone free drink coupons as a thank you/we're sorry. The owner is from New Mexico, hence the attention to red and green hatch chiles on the menu (although we thought that we should've gotten a bit more of it for the $1.25 extra we had to pay). We tried a bagel breakfast sandwich, a couple of different burritos, and the vegan mac and cheese (it was AWESOME. *So* good. In with the new! The new staff is awesome, and I've become a regular here again. Burritos are excellent and the way to have a nice filling breakfast on the go. I come here when I'm too lazy to cook breakfast and don't want to sit down anywhere. Food preparation can take around ten minutes (sometimes quicker of course) but for the most part there usually is a wait since there is only one station and cook to prepare your food. tried the Bang Bang on a tex mex crave - the burrito appears intimidating but was sadly underwhelmed - chiii sauce was a mystery red sauce, inexplicably bland. sausage was unappetizing and overly greasy. white tortilla didn't contribute much to taste. friends ordered the turkey panini, which was served absurdly plain. really enjoyed the organic yerba mate, essentially the best part of brunch. read more

I love this place, it's honestly the best vegetarian cafe in Belltown. They sell burritos, depends on what you order, but anything from breakfast burrito (cheese, potatoes, eggs) to veggie burrito (greens, potatoes) to morning star burrito (imitation sausage, potatoes, cheese) to good ol' fashion grub burrito with beef sausage. The best secret on the menu is the VEGAN MAC AND CHEESE. I love that dish, it's chipotle, veggie cheese, breadcrumbs and other secret ingredients I've yet and probably won't ever discover but I've been trying to replicate it over a year. It's honestly my favorite vegan dish. I've tried both the non-vegan mac and cheese and the vegan, the vegan one blows the non-vegan version out of the park. Something about an overly cheesey, messy dish versus a more dry, yet spicy version makes the vegan mac and cheese tough to beat. Oh how I love this place and its name....BANG BANG! Came here with two friends of mine while visiting Seattle. Right away we fell in love with their whipped cream. So creamalicious! MMmmMmm...!!! The staffs were very friendly, especially the female behind the cashier. I'm thinking maybe she is the owner?? Right when you walk into the cafe, they greet you with a nice warm smile. They were able to tell that we were not locals because they have a lot of repeated customers that they know by names. That just shows how much locals love them and not just out of towners like us. I wish we have a place like this in L.A. Definitely will be coming back here next time when I visit Seattle. read more

Idiots. It pisses me off if places don't take American Express, but I can deal. I don't think they have to be dicks about it. We were in the middle of moving into the apt building across the street and starving. After we couldn't use the AmEX, I walked back to our old apt to get my Visa. Came back and bought a roast beef panini and a hummus panini. I met my fiancé back in the apt. We sat out on the new balcony and tried to decompress from moving. Instead of a hummus sandwich I was given some weird-ass overcooked fake meat disaster. It was absolutely awful. I couldn't eat it but was too tired to go back. I planned to take it back and discuss it with them later. Then I decided I didn't need to interact with jerks. They are the closest restaurant/cafe to our apt, and I will never go back. It's sad. I thought they might have been a good go to for a quick bite. Assholes and incompetent. C'mon. I ate 2 bites of the roast beef. Bland but edible. read more
