I've been there twice. The first time I got the bang bar noodles and I love them. The spice was just right for me at three. I ordered them off of the lunch menu and it was more than enough for just me. I returned the next week in the evening and ordered the panang curry. It was a cold night. and I was looking for something to warm me up. It was a little disappointing it was watery. The chicken was overdone. Also, pricey for what it was. The waitress served water and spilled it all over the table and left it that way. We had to move tables so the water did not drip on us. The pad sew yew was a pile of mush served with broccoli. You would think a Thai resturant would know never to serve a traditional dish that way. The worse part it made my daughter sick, which makes me think they ignored the food allergy statement we made before ordering. I cannot recommend nor would I return here again. I recently found myself in West Seattle and craving Thai food - luckily Bang Bar popped up in a Yelp search so my daughter and I headed over for lunch. The restaurant is beautiful, with rich, dark wood tones, soft lighting, and ample seating. The menu was lengthy, and I was glad to see they had what I was looking forward to: Tom Ka Gai soup. We also ordered rice, and chicken pad Thai (yeah, we weren't in the most inspired mood - we were just hungry). The soup was just ok. It was a little on the sweet side, due to the coconut milk. It was full of huge chunks of chicken and mushrooms, and the usual Thai-style spices. If I ordered it again I might get the version without the coconut milk. The pad Thai was delicious, with a perfectly seasoned sauce and well-cooked noodles. All in all it was a delicious - if not a bit pricey - lunch. I decided on some Thai food after work last Sunday - so, I figured on giving this restaurant a try. I liked the atmosphere, and saw that people were socially distanced - so, I figured that I was going to enjoy my meal (their Chicken Lime Light). Unfortunately, my food was being served to me by someone who wore their mask down over their nose. He also thought nothing of talking to me with his mask down. Because I have immuno-compromised persons in my life, I requested a replacement. While I try to avoid covid deniers, and people who don't take the disease seriously on the streets, I think that restaurant staff should be taking covid (and its safety measures) seriously, when serving food and drink to their customers - who should be able to dine in a safe environment. Considering that there is a statewide requirement for indoor establishments (like restaurants) to follow safety guidelines, I explained to the bartender that while I _didn't_ want to get anyone in trouble - I imagine that I would be within my rights to report them. I then noticed that my drink had a weird consistency (shown below). When I brought it up to the bartender, I was told that she thought that it was alright, and that I should just continue drinking it *gag* - at no point was a replacement offered. Once I realized that this was going to be my experience for the remainder of my time there, I paid up, and left my food uneaten: given the lackadaisical service, I wouldn't put it past them to serve me the same food, and state that it was "remade." Before I left, I thought to take pictures of my ordered items (as I didn't think that people would believe my experience with this place). When the bartender realized what I was doing, she rushed to my table, and attempted to take the items out of my hands - while I was still taking pictures. This forced me to tell her to release the me, and the items, as I purchased them, and wasn't finished. I tried to speak to a manager, to discuss my experience. However, during my initial visit - or the subsequent time afterwards, I was told that the manager wasn't available - they didn't know when they would be available, and was offered to leave my number. Unsurprisingly, at no time did I receive a call from said manager. So, I'm posting about my experience now. I will also be posting about this experience on as many other sites as I can think of. Overall, my experience there was horrible; if I could give this place zero stars, I would. I recommend that people avoid this place. read more

We waited over 40min for our food. My khao soi sat under the heat lamp for 15min - I know this because I sat there and watched the servers cupcake with each other while everyone around us got their food. When they finally brought me my khao soi the server told us the pad see ew was almost done. Welp, the khao soi was alright but it was cold; no surprise there! When the pad see ew came out the server told us they ran out of Chinese broccoli, so they had to use regular broccoli. Um... that's cool since the people at the next table ordered 15min after we did, got their food before us and their pad see ew had plenty of Chinese broccoli. Our pad see ew had a peculiar taste, reminiscent of dirty dish water. 2 servers asked if we needed a box for our barely touched pad see ew but didn't bother asking why we didn't wanna take it home. This place is trash. The only reason I'm giving them a second star is because they comped our spring rolls because "the kitchen took a little longer on our order". Went to a see a play and saw this place across the street. We decided to stop in before heading home. They had about an hour until closing. The hostess looked confused when we walked in so we pretty much sat ourselves. The bartender seemed like he couldn't really be bothered. He handed us one menu and we had to get plates and utensils from another table ourselves. A waitress had to be asked to help us. She was actually nice when she came over. We ordered quickly because we honestly just didn't feel like it was a warm setting. They get five stars for decor bit that about it. I have been having a really difficult time finding a good place for pad thai in the seattle area but alas, my search has ended. Some places make their pad thai too bland or are too heavy with certain ingredients ketchup or fishsauce but Bang Bar seasoned it perfectly. Also, the noodles in the pad thai was cooked to perfection with a slight chewiness and it was seasoned well with a slight tang. Their other two dishes were not as spectacular which results in a loss of a star. The pad kee mao was overcooked which resulted in very soft unappetizing noodles but the flavor was good. Also, I did not like the coconut milk in the mango sticky rice. It is probably the brand they use but it had an artificial aftertaste. I got a Thai food craving on a Monday when my favorite local spot is closed, so I decided to give Bang Bar a shot. Even though I haven't been here in a year or two, it used to be decent, even pretty good, even if it doesn't exactly compete with its neighbor toward the bridge. Oh how times change... and not for the better! The last year was not kind to this restaurant as the quality has slipped tremendously. I don't like leaving negative reviews because I understand how hard it is to run a customer-facing business, but honestly it's time for some tough love. They need to know how bad it is before they can make it better! We ordered Green Curry, Pad Thai and Pad See Ew, and Crispy Garlic Chicken for takeout. Everything we ate could have come from a mall buffet. The green curry had a good flavor, but was super watery. They are clearly cutting the base to save on costs and it shows. Also, there were only two chunks of eggplant, which is very meager, but honestly was for the best because those little sponges were totally waterlogged with old cooking oil. Most of the curry's content was zucchini, which was undercooked and crunchy. Each tofu piece was enormous, which is admittedly a nitpick, but I prefer not to have to use a knife to eat a curry. The vegetarian pad thai was just strange. We ordered the second-hottest option and it barely had a hint of heat. They must have run out of Sen Lek flat rice noodles, because instead of the flat noodles you expect on Pad Thai, they were round vermicelli noodles. And I have no clue what kind of chef thinks celery goes into pad thai, vegetarian or not. And they apparently ran out of peanuts? Or just forgot? The crispy garlic chicken was false advertisement, being neither crispy nor garlicky. It came swimming in a runny sauce, so it was just soggy, and there was no crispy basil, only a few soggy leaves. There was hardly any spice or garlic flavor at all, just aggressively salty. My usual spot down the road is known for its crispy garlic chicken, and this isn't even apples to oranges, it's apples to rocks. This dish tasted like Panda Express chicken, and next time I'll save myself the time and money and just cook some frozen Trader Joe's orange chicken, add a couple minced cloves of garlic, and be happier with the result. The pad see ew was bland. I expect a sweet and savory, caramelized umami dish with oyster sauce and soy sauce, but instead it just tasted... sad and bland. Not actively bad, but I wouldn't get it again. Literally the only part of this meal that we enjoyed was the white rice, which I made at home in my Zojirushi Fuzzy Neuro rice cooker. I give 5 stars for the Zojirushi, would recommend. All in all, I would like this spot to thrive, but I won't be back until they learn how to cook. My recommendation is for the kitchen staff to take a day off and eat at that Thai place on 36th Ave, and come back to work after they learn what food is supposed to taste like. read more

Better to order at the restaurant. The food is good, if the order is right. Online orders don't follow directions- have included meat in vegetarian orders. I think they are busy and miss the notes. Their Uber eats menu is also not accurate. The summer fresh role has shrimp in it even though it isn't listed in the description. It reads like it is vegetarian. There is no option to pick shrimp or tofu. Apparently that is what the regular menu options are, but customers are not going to cross reference the two menus when ordering. read more

I'm shocked this has bad reviews. This is a family favorite. Every time I'm home from leave this is one of the places I go. It is enough to be casual for lunch or happy hour and fancy enough to go out for a nice dinner like my family always does before the Nutcracker. The food is so good and very authentic. Sometimes I do agree they have communication issues because they're always under staffed, which never bothers me much. My food as come out less spicy or too spicy, depending on the cooks of course. However, the food is so good and the closest to authentic American Thai food I've come by and in an amazing location like West Seattle Junction you can't go wrong. They charge for rice, which seems to be more common now in the Seattle area, probably with higher rent. People should get over high food prices, you're going to a nice sit down restaurant with service. If you can't afford to eat out don't go out, everyone has to make a living somehow. We ducked out of the sun to this quiet, cozy spot and appreciated the sun shades (which the staff opened when the sun subsided). We ordered 2 cold beers on tap and the banbar sampler (combination of chicken satay, fried spring rolls, crab rangoons, golden fried tofu, and coconut prawns). Every item was delicious and served with 3 kinds of dipping sauce. I love crab rangoon and this was not disappointing - freshly deep fried with just the right amount of filling. As regular customers we are saddened to report that the consistency and quality of the food has gone largely downhill in the past year. As Thai food enthusiasts we like our food to be spicy, or to at least have some actual flavor. As such we order it four stars every time. The last several times we've ordered, the food has come to us with absolutely no spice whatsoever. This is after having specific conversations with the person taking the order on the phone about how it's actually important to us that they get the spice level accurate, otherwise the food is just bland and no better than frozen Thai food you could get at Safeway. The manager was unwilling to remedy the situation other than suggesting we interrupt our evening plans to drive back to the restaurant to return the food and have them remake it. Who has time or interest in doing that? Total inconvenience. I will add that they have given us one free meal in the past for this same issue. We assumed after that they would be able to get it right, especially after having a five minute conversation on the phone during the order to encourage them to do so. My lunch partner also enjoyed her green curry, but the rice had a slightly odd texture to it, which would have been totally forgivable if not for their tea scam. When I met my friend, she had already ordered herself a pot of tea. I decided to have some, so I requested a cup. When the bills came, we were EACH charged $3, for the same pot.I did not receive my own pot, we never had any additional hot water or tea leaves added, so I find this really shady and annoying. This review is for a takeout order via Yelp. The pad see ewe is made with Chinese broccoli, and I love that it is not overly sweet like most other restaurants make their sauces. The fried eggplant with honey has a perfectly crispy, thin crust with just a dusting of salt. I loved, loved, LOVED the eggplant. I can't stop talking about how good it is! My only complaint is that the "spicy" is completely mild. I'm going to have to try the "very spicy" next time (even though I'm normally 3-star spice level). This was my third time having BangBar but my second time having take out from here. Their food really is good and I feel like the quality is excellent. This last time I strayed from my usual Phad Thai and I tried the Crispy Garlic Chicken which was excellent. I love Crab Rangoon so I decided to get an order of that as well and sadly they are just like every other Thai place's Crab Rangoon, wonton wrappers and cream cheese. I have yet to find a great place that has Crab Rangoon that's heavy on the crab. They gave me extra plum sauce just like I had asked for and everything was perfect. Why only three stars you ask? I would most certainly eat here/get take out here more often but I just feel so uncomfortable as soon as I walk in. I feel like if you don't fit in to a certain customer base that they are looking for, that you aren't welcome. I live just up the street so I rarely walk in there in my nice office work clothes, I'm usually in my yoga pants and trainers and I'm trying to get back to my garbage TV and wine. I always make sure to time it so I'm over pick-up time so I can just run in, pay and run out. I felt the same way when I dined in the one and only time pre-covid when I just moved into the neighbourhood. I can't quite figure it out. Service was reasonable and the ambience is comfortable. This was our 3rd visit since the change of ownership. We tend to order the usual suspects, Pad Thai Gung and Crispy Garlic Chicken, with one of the chicken curries and their brown rice. Noticeably downgraded was their crispy garlic chicken, it was over fried large pieces of batter with very very little dried up pieces of chicken within. As an afterthought we should have sent the dish back to the kitchen. However, they were getting busy and I didn't want to upset their busy flow of service. They absolutely need to address their crispy garlic chicken which is considered a mainstay special dish of most Thai restaurants.
