The story of my life....Always late to the trendy food fad. I don't think this is the trendy place anymore as every time I've been here there has been no line. I've heard of and seen photos from this place for months, but, I finally set foot in here a couple weeks ago. With no line, I wasn't sure what to expect. I've had almost all of their baos, and although I prefer not to, I've ordered them with their girly names. What I liked about them is that although they are "Asian Fusion", they keep everything authentically Asian with the exception of the "Hot Chick" chicken bao. As a carnivore, I love that the bao comes with a sizable hunk of meat. Better baos(bread only) can be had at Chinese restaurants, but, none have the combination of meats served here. The meats that I have tried, duck, chicken, roast pork and braised pork are all pretty decent. But, when assembled together with the vegetables and sauce, it turns into not only a photo worthy meal, but, also a great meal. Their braised pork is my favorite. I like the flavors. The meat is braised to perfection where it is not to mushy or too tough to bite. The duck is my second favorite here. The roast pork is good with a nice and crunchy skin. I would've preferred that the "Hot Chick" was made by and served by a hot chick. I don't need to try a fried chicken bao ever again. In addition to baos, they also have bowls with rice and meat. Their bowls are full of meat. More than you get at other places. Unfortunately, the time I ordered a roast pork belly bowl, the roast pork belly had a lot of fat on it. Service has been good during all of my visits. The cashier was nice at giving me suggestions. Baos, mainly duck and char siu, have been around for awhile at Chinese restaurants, but, Baos Hog takes it to another level with the different meats that they put in there. This spot is worth every hipster dollar you own. The vibe is edgy with a touch of authenticity. When you have Asian grandmas and younger millenials coming in, you know this place is authentic and good. I ordered 3 different Baos, I think my favorite was the roasted duck which was really good and tender. The Char-su pork was really juicy and had the right amount of flavor. The other time I came in I ordered a rice plate with pork belly. This was my first rice plate here and it do not disappoint at all. I couldn't stop eating this plate even though it was big enough for 2 people. They give you a special sweet sauce that compliments the fatty flavor. I'm definitely recommending this place to anyone who enjoys Baos and Chinese bbq. It isn't too expansive. Of course anyone will say you can get the same thing in Chinatown for $1 or $2 minutes cheaper, but I still say it's worth it. read more

This has been on my bookmark for a while. Baos we tried: Fried chicken - this was my least favorite. It tasted like old and dried out fried chicken reheated which tasted like salty chicken jerky. This bao had the most fix-ins. ("coleslaw") though which helped beef it up. This is a hard no for me. Duck: Yummerz! A nice juicy piece of duck flavored perfectly. Delicious. I do wish that it had more vegetables in it like the fried chicken bao. However, sometimes less is more which made the duck take center stage which I was okay with. Pork Belly or Bolsa: perfectly crispy skin with a juicy belly! This is another must to get. Although the size of the pork was smaller than the duck, it still was a decent size. They had a creamy sauce slathered in the bao which complemented the pork. They seem to have a lot of specials on the side like fish wrap burritos and Hainan chicken bake. Fries: so crispy and hot. Not greasy at all. So so good. If you order fries though, expect there to be a wait. 3 parties who ordered after us received their orders before us because the fries took 15 minutes to cook. Menu has a lot of variety yet is simplistic at the same time. They did a good job because this area has so much Asian food to offer and so they do stand out by offering trendy contemporary fun to eat baos! It's a fairly small spot with a few tables. The one thing that I didn't like is that they keep the door open and so it was freezing while eating inside and they do not seem to have the heater on in February. So it was just as cold eating at an outside table as an indoor table. Also, it's next to a bbq place that sells roast pork and duck so I wonder if they buy their pork and duck from there and put it in their baos? Ordered the Fish and the Boss. Both were very yummy! Tried the Lychee lemonade and it was great! It was more like a slush. The only thing was that the music was too loud - it was actually at an ok volume when we entered then it was turned up to too loud where we had to almost shout to talk to each other. The music selection also had lots of cussing in the lyrics so if you have kids, keep that in mind. We went on a Saturday around lunchtime. read more

Each bun is between $3.50-$4, heck yes! We ordered the Duck, Bolsa, and Cow buns. The buns are huge and BH is generous with their meat portions. The buns had so much flavor, it's mouthwatering. The combinations of the picked vegetables with the meat pairing is perfect. My favorite was the Bolsa, the crispy pork skin combined with the hoisin and pickled vegetables was bomb dot com. Can you tell I thoroughly enjoyed it yet? The complimentary water is infused with cucumber and lemon, score! The parking lot is crazy, be careful. Was in the area and decided to try this place for the bao buns. What I ordered: Bolsa and Chashu bao bun (both $3.50) Portion wise i think it's worth it. I am still very impressed with the service and quality of this restaurant during COVID. Although there is no indoor seating, you can still order take out. Whether you want to order online or at the register, the service is quick and the staff is nice. I highly recommend the Bolsa as the fried pork provides a great texture and it is also accommodated with great taste. Those baos are HUGE, son! After visiting my grandma nearby, my cousin and I decided to grab some dinner at Baos Hog. Okay, it was my idea really. We each got a bao and a rice plate. I opted for the Bolsa crispy pork belly bao ($3.50) and the Hainan chicken rice with white meat ($7). My cousin got the Duck bao ($4) with the roast pork belly rice ($7.50). We both got the lychee black tea ($2.50). I think we overestimated the size of our stomachs because it was a LOT of food. The baos are bigger than I expected and I could easily fill up on just two. The rice entrees are large portions too. My only complaint would be that they should give people more than one container of sauce per entree. I ended up taking home the rest of my Hainan chicken rice. The crispy pork belly bao is the stuff dreams are made of. Imagine a crispy pork-skinned chunk of belly meets pickled onions and soft pillowy bao with just the right amount of five spice seasoning. Best comfort food that I've had in a while. The rice plate was also really tasty. I think I'll try the dark meat Hainan chicken rice next time. The lychee black tea wasn't too sweet and had actual chunks of lychee in it. Got the Bao Boss, Hainan Chicken Rice with white meat, Boss Hog Fries, and Basil Chili Wings. The Bao Boss was yummy and a little messy to eat. The bread broke instantly. The Hainan Chicken Rice was good. The bf enjoyed this a lot. The Boss Hot Fries were good and crunchy. But got little powerful after a while. Also, not as good as left overs. We tried every bao on the menu except for the chicken and fish one. The duck was cooked perfectly. The skin was crispy and the meat was juicy. The pork belly was also decent. Our least favorite was the char siu bao which was over cooked and super tough. There are no vegetarian options on the menu but they do allow you to switch the meat from the chicken bao to cauliflower. I had really low expectations for this one but the cauliflower was delicious! Lightly breaded and crispy. And the sauce and coleslaw complemented it very well. We also ordered a side of the fried cauliflower which we enjoyed but they were really skimpy with the sauce. Only reason for it being four stars instead of five was because the service was meh. The girl at the register wasn't exactly friendly and when I asked for some water cups she reluctantly handed me two.. when there was clearly 6 of us. Lol. Also none of the tables were cleaned and we had to wipe them down ourselves which was also not cool. Floors were sticky and the bathroom was filthy. Take a bao, folks! The idea is pure genius and I can't help but wish they would follow the poke craze. A bao stop in every corner...now, that would be a sight I shall hope for one day. A classic pairing for steamed bun that almost everyone is familiar with is roasted DUCK ($4). The piece of poultry I found in my bao had tender lean meat, a skin that would've been nice if crispy, and a little layer of fat that added a glistening component. Accompanied with dipping sauce on the side, it made for a juicy treat that I'm glad I tried but perhaps skip next time. There are far more exciting options out of the 7 offered on the menu with BOLSA ($3.50) being the most fond of by yours truly. Why not when it is a slab of crispy pork belly we are talking about. Throw in some pickled onions and carrots, cucumbers, and sriracha garlic mayo, you will find your taste buds doing the happy dance if they can. The BOSS ($3.50) would be the braised version of the latter so the skin would obviously not be crispy but gelatinous, and that is one thing I am just not keen on eating. Not crucifying them for that; it is only a personal preference when eating pork belly. Let's talk about the HOT CHICK ($3.50) or "hot mess" which I'd like to call it. It's both delicious and messy so prepare lots of napkins or steer clear from it if you're on a date. The subtle heat from the sriracha was a pleasant tickle while the fried chicken made a satisfying crunch each time I dug my teeth in. No wonder many rave about this bao. In terms of portion, 2 baos for a person with normal appetite would suffice which means 3 is perfect for someone like me. Then again, they offer other things on the menu, too. Now, here's a pleasant surprise to us HAINAN CHICKEN ($7 breast; $7.50 dark meat) lovers. Baos Hog offers flawlessly steamed chicken that is served piping hot and oozing with flavors, not to mention the side of fragrant rice cooked in chicken broth that will leave your nostrils filled with the mesmerizing aroma of ginger. I normally pick dark vs white meat but after having both, their tender and juicy white meat version won me over. Baos Hog is the marriage between a Siopao flat bun and a taco. Proteins are Meshed in between sweet bun dough rolled flat to make the perfect canvas for your carnivore treat. Garnished with a little sauce and some veggies to complete the profile. Imagine a open faced Siopan bun stuffed with yummy meat. Service is super friendly, as they create their treats right behind the glass for your eyes to see. At about $3.50 a piece you get your pick of protein from duck, cow, pork, chicken. Super tastey. The bun comes absolutely STUFFED, they shove so much quality meat in there, my favorites are the duck and crispy pork! Overflowing with meat and veggies, it's very hard to eat it without getting messy so be sure to grab napkins. Perfect blend of ingredients with the drizzled sauce and the buns are so soft and fresh. Buns come out in a perfect little container which makes a great picture, along with the variety of different colors. It's a great snack stop for post meals or before meals. This was surprisingly good I was grabbing some boba next door until the person I came with decided that we should get some Bao Hog. We walked over and there was a short line to order. Once we were at the register, we went for their Cow and Duck Bao. Their Cow Bao was our favorite. It included grilled ribeye, green onions, and shallots. It was filled with flavor and was pretty amazing. The meat was tender and cooked perfectly. It's a must get. The Duck Bao was also good but not as good. It included roasted duck, cucumber, green onions, shallots, and some sauce. It was also done right but not comparable to the Cow Bao. The actual bao itself was soft and really good. I like that it was a flatter version but still pretty big. Each bao runs from $3.50-$4. I thought the pricing was pretty good. And they take card. They have six different types of baos, 6 different types of rice dishes, some sides, desserts, and some drinks. I thought their sides looked pretty good. They have two new "fries" items. One of them is their Cauli Fries which is fried cauliflower. I do want to go back and try that. The other one was "cinna fries" which is a dessert. Their drinks, including their teas and slushies looked pretty good from my observation of people getting them. This place is very casual. You order at the register and they call your name. The food came out pretty fast and the girl at the counter answered a few of questions I had. There is inside seating but we took ours home. Love, love, love this place! I came here because my friend recommended it to me. We were in the area, so she suggested eating at this place. I've tried a place similar to this called the Bun Shop in LA, and it was just not good at all. I was willing to give it another shot at this restaurant, and I'm glad I did! I came around dinner time on a weekday. This place has good parking, and the wait time wasn't long. I ordered the duck, bolsa, and cow. My rankings from most favorite to least favorite are: cow, bolsa, and duck. I definitely recommend the cow! It tastes so good and is marinated so well (I believe it was bulgogi sauce). The bolsa was pretty good too; I liked how the pork belly was cripsy. The duck didn't really have anything special to it (since it tastes like a pecking duck bao with hoisin sauce), but overall the three baos were really good. Baos Hog had been on my wife's yelpdar for a while so last Saturday we had the chance to try it out. We arrived around 12:15.Just trying to find parking was an adventure and not for the faint of heart. lol Baos Hog sits in a tiny strip mall. It isn't a very big place but, what it lacks in square footage, it makes up for in flavor. If food is art, then Baos Hog has created a masterpiece. Or several masterpieces you could say. The Bao that is created is almost too beautiful to eat. Each Bao is a la carte. We chose the most popular Bao which were the Boss Bao(Crispy pork belly), Duck Bao, Cow Bao(Beef), BOLSA-Heo Quay Bao(Chicken). All were very flavorful and beautiful to look at. Although, the crispy pork belly was little chewy and difficult to eat. Our favorite was the Duck Bao. We also had the chicken wings which were flavorful and spicy enough without any sauce. Each Bao runs about $3.50-$4.00 a piece so things can add up fast. We spent about $27.00 total. The is seating inside and outside, but the tables are limited. I would suggest getting to Baos Hog no later than 12:30, because the place gets busy and finding parking can be difficult. read more

I've had all the "flavors" of Bao and they're all pretty good. My favorite is the Bolsa (crispy pork), but the fried chicken one is also pretty good. The bun is warm and fluffy but thick enough to not fall apart when you try to eat it. They also add a little bit of veggies and sauce on top of the bun and meat to make it extra tasty. But, it's kinda messy to eat, so bring wet wipes or wash your hands in the bathroom. It's kinda like eating street truck food. The customer service has always been solid and they keep the place pretty clean. Parking can get pretty brutal for dinner on the weekends so watch out for crazy drivers. There's usually room to eat inside which is good and it's next to a Yogurtland and a great shaved ice place, Blackball. So you can go for dessert after because they only have iced tea and stuff. They give you a huge piece of duck served with the perfect amount of hoisin sauce. Fried shallots were a nice touch! The hot chick bao was a little heavy because the chicken is deep fried and because of the burger sauce but really liked it! The cow bao was a bit plain. Came with only beef, green onion and shallots. Boss bao had good flavor, really liked the sriracha garlic mayo sauce that came with it. Fish bao came with 3 pieces of fish! In my on going quest for Hainan Chicken, I came here specifically to try Baos Hog version. So we spent $30 for 3 rice boxes, a bao and an iced tea for 2 people. It sounded a little pricey but I ended up taking 1/2 of each box home as leftovers. Here's what we ordered: - 2 of the Hainan Chicken and rice boxes, 1 white and 1 dark meat. The dark meat is 50c more. - 1 of the roast pork belly and rice (I had regular steamed rice, but if you want Hainan rice, its a $1 more) and - 1 Duck bao (bun) The Hainan Chicken was just ok. Karen had the dark meat and found bits of splintered bones. I am not sure if the dark meat is deboned or hacked, but she had to be careful when she ate hers. The chicken was about 1/4 portion of dark meat, a big scoop of Hainan rice (rice cooked in chicken broth) and came with slices of cucumbers, a ginger dipping sauce, and a chili sauce. She said it was "just ok". $7.50 The white meat version was also 1/4 of white meat breast, deboned, served the same way as the dark meat. It too was just ok, a bit dry, so it was sitting outside the broth on its own. $7.00 The pork belly rice box was a scoop of regular rice and a generous portion of crispy pork belly, chopped into bite size pieces. No bone. Served with a chili sauce and some sliced cucumbers. Unlike going to a Chinese restaurant, it was missing a side of Hoisin sauce. $7.50 The Duck bao was a generous slice of roast duck, served skin on, inside a steamed white bun. Think of it as a Chinese slider, served with a duck sauce, cucumber, and green onions. It was juicy, and much better than the disappointing Hainan Chicken. $4.00 and worth it. The Lychee Iced Tea was $2.50 and you can get refills. I wasn't too thrilled with the drink and ended up tossing it. Not a fan, but if you like lychee fruit, you may enjoy this tea. Overall the Duck Bao won me over, and it probably should since the restaurant is called "Baos" hog. They're bigger than they look and 2 or 3 Baos can be enough for a meal. The Hainan chicken underwhelmed me, and that is definitely not their specialty, even though they make it a point to highlight it on the menu and chalkboard. While there's plenty of parking, you may have to hike it as you're competing with patrons going to a dozen other popular eateries in the same mall.
