    Baos Hog

Parking here takes patience -- Hoa Binh supermarket next door draws a crowd. Circle the lot, find a spot, and forget about it once you smell what's wafting out of that kitchen. The bao is the whole show. Not the flat, pale discs you're used to -- these are pillowy white clouds, split open and stuffed obesely full. I ordered three, which felt greedy until the first bite proved otherwise. The Baos Hog: a slab of roasted pork belly, crackly skin still attached, crunching against pickled carrots and red onion, fried shallots on top like confetti. The Duck Bao: crispy-skinned duck slathered happily in hoisin and plum sauce, cucumber cutting through the richness. Lastly, the Cow Bao: grilled rib eye and charred scallions, simple and smoky. Each one $5.75. Highway robbery, but in your favor. Best part? Watch the kitchen wall. A hand literally reaches through a cut-out window, passing pork belly and duck from Lien Hoa next door -- same family owners, the daughter runs Baos Hog. Farm-to-table, except the farm is eight feet away. Tiny dining room, but spotless, and service fast and kind. Eat like a Boss at Baos. 5 Stars -- no hesitation. Nicely done!

Duck Bao - DUCK IS GLISTENING

Stopped by here for a quick dinner. Very spacious parking lot. Definitely very easy to get too. This joint is quite small, but it's meant to not really be a restaurant, it's giving boba shop space size. I noticed next door they had a bbq shop, so they probably get all their meat supplies next door. Ordering was easy and efficient. I ordered a duck bao and a bolsa bao which was the pork belly bao. It didn't take too long for my order to be completed either since I was the only person in the shop. Digging into the duck bao first, wow the duck was realllyyy good. They slab on a generous piece of duck with perfect parts of meat, fat, and skin. It's very oily though, but it was very delicious. Then I had the bolsa bao, this was okay tbh but it was still pretty nice. The skin of the pork belly could be crispier, but it tasted like it was out for awhile. The meat itself was a bit tough to pull apart, but the overall flavors were very nice. Also the fried onions on both of the baos was a really nice touch. Overall, quick and easy joint. I would definitely get the duck bao again. It's kinda like the one you would get at the Chinese seafood restaurant, but even larger. It's closer to $6 per bao, which is a bit higher than I may have expected, but not as high as if you're going to a night market for it.

Great tasty snack and it contained a lot of duck meat. Baos are about $6.50 each and comes with sauce. Duck was juicy

Found this place randomly while driving and decided to drop in for a Bao. I ordered the Bolsa Bao which is their crispy roast pork option. First off, the portion size of the bao is pretty large, but it's a huge chunk of the crispy roast pork, so each bite, even when you get to the end is still a mouthful of pork, which I really appreciated. The pickled red onions and cucumbers also were perfect accompaniments to cut through the fattiness of the pork. Overall, a really good Bao. I will definitely come back to try their other Bao options. Otherwise the store was located in a large shopping plaza with plenty of parking. I came during the early afternoon and it was not busy. The guys behind the counter were really helpful when I came in and explained the menu to me. Service was really quick and efficient. The store itself is clean and has a couple tables inside to sit and enjoy your meal. It has a nice casual feel inside with some music playing.

Baos Hog serves up various proteins in baos as well as the option to get the proteins with rice. Pricing for the baos are about half of the rice plates, but I feel like you get much better value with the rice plates. Ribeye and egg rice ($12) - Korean marinated beef was grilled to perfection and served with green onion on top of rice and a sunny side egg. This is the best deal here. Fish bao ($5.50) - The mouth feel of fried basa fish, crispy red/white cabbage, onions, honey mustard sauce and the fluffy soff bao buns really hit the mark! This was a great tasting dish as well. Cow bao ($5) - This had the same ribeye and green onions utilized in the plate. Hot chick bao ($5) - This fried chicken bao with a house sauce, slaw, tossed in a vinaigrette, topped with cilantro and siracha was another well executed dish. Hainan chicken rice with dark meat ($12) - I enjoyed this poached chicken and rice dish. Duck bao ($5.50) - This consisted of pan seared duck, slaw and a hoisin mayo which provided a slightly sweet taste. I'm not a fan of duck but it went well with the bao. Overall there are a lot of protein options to choose from and the prices are reasonable, especially for the rice dishes and that's why I'm bumping their rating up to 5 stars. I recommend getting a single rice dish or 3 baos to fill you up. They have several tables inside as well as 2 outside, so there isn't a whole lot of seating. Most people were getting their items to go.

Loved Baos Hog! The Hainan chicken and baos were so good! Everything was flavorful and fresh, and the prices are super reasonable. Great spot for a tasty, satisfying meal -- definitely coming back!

This place was surprisingly delicious. It opened awhile ago and I never thought to try it, but one day I decided to come in, and we ordered the crispy hainan chicken, fries, duck bao, and bolsa bao (crispy pork belly). All dishes were incredibly crispy, flavorful, and had a great texture. The sauces with the chicken rice added a nice variety to the dish, and we were very full for two people after the meal. The workers were quick to serve, and food came out in a good amount of time. The restaurant itself didn't have a lot of seating, but it also wasn't very crowded so I think you could sit down and eat fairly quickly

A fun take on bao! Food: Always fresh and prepared well, in particular the duck is really good here (it probably helps that they're right next door to Lien Hoa), but all of their offerings are quite good. Service: Always quick and friendly, and they keep the orders moving! Ambiance: Plenty of indoor seating, and a bit outdoors as well. If you haven't, you should! I'll see you here! :)

Placed in a very crowded plaza, parking is very easy. There's a lot of other restaurants around, and I'm surprised this place isn't more crowded. The place itself is a little small, but it's cozy enough inside to enjoy eating at the place. The service itself is quick and efficient, or maybe it's because one of the owners was literally the person working the cash register. The braised pork belly in the bao felt like it was cooked to perfection. Considering the price, I could've just ordered 2-3 of these and I would have been extremely happy with the meal. The Hainan chicken didn't disappoint either, so if baos aren't enough, the Hainan chicken is worth it. Definitely recommend the boss Bao if you stop by here

hidden little shop in a gg plaza! fun and modern environment with pop/r&b/hip-hop blasting and a simple yet infused menu with Vietnamese/Chinese dishes. Duck Bao & Bolsa Boa were 5/5. Solid slabs of meat, with plenty of sauce and toppings (fresh cucumber). everything tasted fresh, and was prepped quick! Also welcoming service as soon as we walked in the door. would def come back here and recommend. Wish they had a combo or something if you bought 3/5/10 baos or something like that, esp w/a drink!

    Mandy F.

The bun itself is soft and good. Big portions but I feel as if the meat inside is lacking flavor. We got Steak-the meat quality is good but there wasn't much flavor. BBQ Pork-lacking the flavor on the char sui but with a little hoisin sauce it was good. Duck-this is the one that was really good, the duck flavor, the bun and the fresh cucumbers. Overall, the portions are big and meat filling is generous, bun has a nice texture to it. Located inside the plaza where the Hoa Binh market is.

O V E R A L L Super worth, fresh, and decent quantity! I was looking for some clean eats / rice plates and stumbled upon this gem. Will definitely return! O R D E R Hainan Chicken (white meat) - WOW on quantity and flavors! Granted I don't go out to get Hainan chicken as much, but this is probably my favorite spot! Crispy Hainan Chicken - My fiance got this one and it was so flavorful (I most definitely snuck a bite) Bolsa Bao - Crispy af!! All the flavors hit the spot. Fish Bao - Best eaten FRESH FRESH when there's still steam coming out of your mouth. So so crispy and flavorful. I appreciate that the bao is still super fluffy. (Obv I need to upgrade my vocabulary here but legit... flavorful + great quantity are prob the best words to describe the food here!!) S E R V I C E You order at the counter ~ but everyone was super friendly! O T H E R There is some seating inside and a table outside.

Eat like a BAOS. Though high-key, I come here for the dark meat Hai Nan Chicken Rice - FAVORITE OF ALL TIME IN THE OC!!! Sounds like a simple & plain dish, but let me tell you... it is SO SAVORY & FLAVORFUL, including the rice itself, which was also not sticky. I try to savor each bite because the chicken is just that JUICY, no ginger or hot sauce needed to boost the taste. Out of all the Hai Nan Chicken I've tried in OC, this place has the strongest deep flavor. The shop next door was selling duck and inspired me to try Duck Bao. Yuuum taste like peking duck. Also got the Bolsa Bao (pork belly).. loved the crispy outer skin. A nice bonus, I like the texture of the thinly sliced green onions on both the chicken & baos. You can watch them slice your chicken & assemble your baos from behind the glass. Self serve ice water & toss your own trash/stack tray when done. Casual vibe, upbeat with the EDM playing haha Few small tables of 2 that can be push together for parties of 4 or 6. Plenty of parking in the plaza area.

Open on holidays like July 4th, like a true Asian restaurant! Got the: 1. Cajun green beans ($14): 9/10, the lemon pepper butter sauce was scrumptious, I even wanted to add rice to it. -1 for green beans that are on the old side and the ends weren't chopped off. The corn nuts on top are meant to give a nice crunch, and while they tried to crush it, it's still too hard for my liking, so we mixed it with the sauce so it could soften up. 2. Seafood soup ($26): 7/10 and not worth the $26, as the swai fish is very little, you get only approx 4 shrimps, and the owner couldn't allow subbing calamari for more shrimp as he explained that the seafood is all pre-portioned out. The soup is very sour like Tom yum but it had too much lemongrass and was too sour for my liking. It came with 3 pieces of cucumber that could rival Ding Tai Fung and spicy sauce that seemed like their rendition of Lao gan ma. The price would've made me -1 but they get a +1 for the cucumber and Lao gan ma type spicy sauce, otherwise it would've been a 6/10 for me. 3. Mushroom & Beef Stir Fry ($23): 9/10, the beef reminds me of shaken beef and the sauce is very flavorful of beef. Love that the rice is delicious chicken rice, it's so addictive! If the mushroom was more umami it would take this up to a 10. 4. Garlic Noodles with Prawn ($22): 10/10, my second favorite on the menu (my fav is still the discontinued mushroom soup) and out of all the garlic noodles I've had, this is the best one. It's garlicky, the noodles are perfect texture, and the shrimp are large and crisp. I've been ordering garlic noodles at every Viet restaurant I've been to and haven't met a better executed one 5. For dessert, pistachio mouse cake ($12): 10/10, never knew pistachio and berries are a good combo but it was so mind blowing! The pistachios had the perfect crunch, and the wild berry sauce helped cut the richness of the cake. I only wish there was 2-3 more pieces of strawberry as it is the perfect accompaniment to cut the richness of the mouse cake. TLDR: summer menu is worth a go (minus the seafood soup) and please bring back the mushroom soup!!

I would definitely come back to try more of their menu!

Broth was substandard and chicken was bony. Would absolutely order clay jar grilled chicken thigh with dried noodles again. It was juicy and delicious in every way. Quantity: enough to fill one person, no leftovers. Easy parking, lots of tables available, bathroom was clean, staff was friendly.

I decided to order a whole chicken for to go so you know it's solid! And their crispy pork fat (tóp mỡ) is the best one I have ever tried. Very crispy and flavorful! I also ordered a chicken organ side dish. Only $8 with huge portion is a big deal. Unlaid chicken egg was creamy and delicious. The gizzard and heart was also great, but liver was slightly overcooked. Dipping sauce is tasty but could have given me more (3x more at least haha). Their fried rice cake (bột chiên) was ok as I expected it to be crispier. The sweet soy sauce is nice though. I also like the fact that they were generous about the papaya portion.

Service was excellent too. Shout out Tai? I'm not sure how to spell it. Cute inside with pretty decor but a little small so make sure to put your name down. We went Sunday around 7:30/8pm and there wasn't a wait for party of 4. Pork jowl is a fav of mine and their ssamjjang tastes pretty authentic but definitely had a little twist to it. It was super tender and well marbled. The crispy chicken was also juicy as it was all thigh meat. It reminded me of takoyaki in terms of taste. I wonder if it's because there's bonito flakes in it or something like takoyaki? Scallop pesto pasta was AMAZING. Scallop is my fav seafood and I never had a creamy pesto before. Udon noodles were cooked perfectly. The skirt steak really surprised me. We asked for medium rare and nice never had a skirt steak that tender. The broccolini tasted very charred and smoky (in a good way). It complimented the meat so well. Miso bacon carbonara was a solid choice and we also got that last time. Can't go wrong with it. The wings though were standard fish sauce wings. The slaw was a bit too vinegary or sour for me. Can't wait to come back the next time!

We went right at opening so there was no wait, the waiters were very nice and on top of everything. Their cocktails are on the sweeter side which I liked. Yuzuni: 7/10 it was good, sweet with yuzu flavor. The part I didn't like that it was the after taste. It was very bitter for some reason. Fries: 10/10 it was delicious. The garlic flavor was strong in a good way and the crispy is on point! Calamari: 10/10 can't really go wrong with that tbh Carbonara: 8/10 the flavor is there but it wasn't that special. The noodle was super al dente that felt a bit undercook (?). There was barely any bacon and the portion size is so small Vongole: 8/10 the flavor was very good. Lots of seafood in the bowl, but there was barely any noodle. The portion is also very small for it to cost $40 Pork Jowl: 7/10 nothing special. Not much flavor to the meat. The sauce that comes with it tastes like the cocktail sauce that I feel like did not go well with the pork. Overall I would give this place a 7/10. The portion size were very small, none of the dishes we ordered were special or stand out enough to wow us. The service was great. The atmosphere was alright.
