Oh friends, though my heart hurts inside I had a breakup experience with Bar 35 last night. We went to try the weekly beer tasting (which was SUPPOSED to last from 6-8), and if only I could turn back the clock! A fairly grueling tasting experience ensued ($20 for a tasting that starts with MGD 64 COULD have been funny, but after everything else it wasn't). The tasting was to involve 9 (4oz) beer tastes but after 2 hours we had experience only 3 tastings. We are tired, we are hungry, and we are thirsty. So our waitress (who had been amazing in the face of extreme adversity otherwise known as being the only waitress in a fairly busy bar) obligingly brought out the rest of our tastings for us...but she only brought out tastings 5-8! No worries we thought, she's busy, and we'll get her next go-around. She comes back, and asks if we need anything else. Yes! we reply, we'd like our tastes of 4 (a Blue Moon, which I also think is a tad silly on a tasting menu, but I have a deep fondness for Blue Moon) and 9. Sorry, she says, I only have tabs (the tabs are a whole 'nother story!) for 3 9's (and no 4's!). We look at the five of us sitting at the table, and think...errr? But there are 5 of us? And we're missing an entire taste? At this point we are REALLY tired and REALLY hungry (it's 9:15 at this point) so we say "whatever" I am still not that annoyed, though it does seem as though if a mistake was made you would want to correct it, right? But she's obviously having a rough night. Still, we paid $20 and we are broke graduate students, and I want the goods I paid for!!! So, A goes to talk to the bar manager, to explain the situation. Do you know what he does? He nods, does nothing, and then calls over the waitress who has been busting her butt all night. If you have 5 unhappy customers you DO something about it, right? Given them the 2 beers between five people (WHICH THEY PAID FOR?!)? Comp them their fries they ordered because they were starving and hadn't planned on being there for 3+ hours? Comp them an entire tasting since in total there were 28 ounces of beer not served to the party? All of the evening I would have laughed about and forgotten, but this was just the poorest example of management I have ever seen. This is where I lost my love for this bar. If anybody in a relationship ever treated me with such disinterest and distain I would leave their cold heart in the mud and possibly stomp on it on my way out the door. Once more I want to say the waitress (Jo-knee) really was doing her best with what she had, and ran after me to return my credit card as I tried to rush out (HUNGRY) which I really appreciated. So Bar 35, farewell. I'll miss your beer selection, but if I wanted to be treated like sh!t I would have paid for a dominatrix. read more

Went there on a Saturday night (10pm). The drinks were reasonably priced. But the music was so loud that it hurt my ears (we sat at the bar table). The worst thing is, the whole place SMELLS-cigarettes and BO. Disgusting place. Do not go unless you are shit faced then you won't remember all the disgusting things you smell or touch. read more

I'm amazed at how Hotel Street and down town has become somewhat of a swanky artsy fartsy place. 10 years ago, no one would have thought N. Hotel Street would be a hot bed for nightlife. But after we parked, we walked onto the street and there are tons of dumpy looking exteriors that actually open into the most amazing beautiful bars. Bar 35 was a pleasant surprise. The interior is very posh and inviting. From what i hear, that front room can feel very tight at times (especially on first fridays) but luckily it was pleasantly empty on a Saturday night. We met up with our friends in the outdoor patio in the back. Let me say, this patio is nice and open with a few nice spots for larger groups to gather. My only gripes were that smokers can really ruin the mood and for an outdoor patio, I wish it was somewhat cooler. As for the drinks, unfortunately we weren't there during happy hour so it was a little pricey. What I thought was so odd and fishy was that we ordered two rounds of "touchdowns" and the first time we paid it was 10.50 per drink. the second time was 8.00.. I was really tempted to keep ordering to see what price it would be next time. My yelppees always rave about the pizza here. I had a bite of the prosciutto and thought it was okay. Nothing all too special. I didn't like the sloppy floppy crust. The fries looked pretty good and i thought it was awesome how they served them in dim sum trays. At first i didn't like downtown bar only because of parking issue but i realize there are china town parking lots where it ain't so expensive after all. Out of all the downtown bar i like bar 35 the best, only because i'm social smoker, which mean i crave cig whenever i drink some beer. it goes well for me together and this is the only bar where it has outdoor in the back where i don't have to put my beer down and go out just to smoke. When i found out this i was mind blown , we still have place like this available in the island? it felt like friends backyard partying it up. Bar 35 has awesome happy hours and they have so many beer to choose. if you are beer devil (dare devil) this is place for you. also they have fantastic kitchen to serve you pizza and other fatty food. fatty food + beer = good night. As far as peeps, i haven't really met anyone at this bar. it doesn't really seem like a place to meet new people. when it's first Friday it's just over crowded and on the week days it seems like college clicks or office worker gathering. maybe it's a different story if you are girl. =D over all good service and good choice of beers so i'm a fan. i wouldn't mind coming back here. read more

Bar 35 is the kind of place where you can get a beer and watch a wolf rip the face off of a baby caribou. No, really. Running along the veins that pumps life into the downtown district lies a cozy, dark lot that's perfect to sink into after a long day at work. When you step in, you're immediately subdued by the extra chill atmosphere that seems to spread throughout the room. It's like stepping into a sigh of relief and not wanting to come back out. Word on the street is that Bar 35 is known for its beer and pizza. I wish I could tell you how the latter tasted, but unfortunately, my taste buds were strictly restricted to the alkie stuff. And trust me when I say that the alkie stuff delivers. My friend got herself one of the many beers that is showcased along Bar 35's brick walls. I settled for the Miss Chinatown martini and when I say "settled" I mean I hit the jackpot with the super hot porno star of all martinis. To say the least, if you're not impressed by the decor, then you'll be impressed by the buzz. After sitting at the bar, being serviced by one of the friendliest bartenders I've come across, my friend and I took a seat on one of the leather sofas once it was made available. From there, we were entertained by our own conversation as well as a big screen TV featuring footage from the DVD, "Planet Earth." This is where we got to see a gigantic wolf track and hunt a baby caribou separated from its mother. So if you're stuck in a dull date, chances are Bar 35 could still save your night by informing you on ways you can kill cute four-legged infant animals. I hold this place in high regards and I think you should try it yourself. Definitely don't come by on a "First Friday" when the herds of hipsters plow through Nuuanu Street looking for something to post on Facebook. You might want to go on a second Tuesday or maybe a third Wednesday if you experience people-claustrophobia. I have a friend who is INTO Bar 35. It's her spot. I can see why. They have an awesome (and probably the best downtown) happy hour and a cute little patio in the back. (Any bar with outdoor seating gets bonus points in my book) Mostly we agree on this bar because it satisfies both of a our drinking styles. I am a shot-washed-down-by-a-beer kinda girl (classy!) and she's a cosmos-or-an-apple-tini-thank-you kinda girl. Bar 35 appeals to both those needs plus serves up some decent pizza so you can be coherent enough to get your drunk ass home. Oh yea tip well because Eddie the bartender in the back is awesome. If you go tell him you love him and that Jill says hi. And say hi to Frazier if he's working the front door. He's awesome too! EDIT: I forgot to mention that while I am a flip flop and jeans bar goer, Bar 35 is not so much. Thia place is a gem in downtown, definitely a place to check out for their massive beer selection and reasonable prices especially during happy hour. Where fries are 25% off and 20% off two pizzas. Wednesdays they have beer flights for $7 where you can try a selection of different craft beers. The beer is the highlight but they also have very good thin crust pizza that they make in house, thin, crispy, and flavorful. This is one of my favorite bars for Pau hana since working near downtown. Outside wait time = 45 minutes; bar wait time for service = 15 minutes - MUSIC - varies. Outstanding? No. - FOOD MENU - Ok. 1) Pizzas. Thin crust, small and overpriced. Have tried everything on the menu. +Sweet Bangkok (Chinese sausage||sweet chili sauce) - good +Italian Perdition (Italian sausage) - good +Tuscan sun (salami) - bad +All vegetables - bad +Deep forest - bad +French kiss (ham & cheese) - bad +Gyromatic (lamb meat) - bad +Smokey Heaven (smoked salmon) - really bad +Simple Pleasure - really, really bad 2) French fries - thin and crispy, nothing special and definitely overpriced. "Special" sauces are $1 extra? That's fine but are they "special"? I am super anti-social, well. . .I actually just do not like most people more than the idea of hanging out with people, but Bar 35 is the exception. It's not exceptional, but it's decent enough. Happy hour on a Friday night is wonderful if you get there early -- as in 4:30-5pm. Then you can score a whole section for you and your posse. Being only a 10 minute walk from Queen's Medical Center, it was a very well-frequented joint for me and my coworkers. $3 vodkas, martinis, and drafts? Yes, that does lead to stumbling in a gladly drunken stupor many Fridays in a row. After doing this for a while, I have come to learn that they actually use really crappy vodka, so you most likely will be hungover badly the next morning if your choice of poison for the night is their vodka. Been there, done that. Best cure for me? Beef enchilada. Kinda counterintuitive, but it worked. I also love their crostinis. THe pizza's alright as well, a bit pricey, but you can always get orders of the crostinis. It's easy to please the palate of drunk people -- just make sure there's bacon, and the crostinis take care of it. One thing I can't stand about this place is how dark it is. It's not as annoying if you're sitting at the bar or at the tables near the bathroom, but if you're sitting anywhere else (aka 85% of the joint), then beware because the mats on the ground get/are uneven, and if you're a female who likes to wear the heels. . .yeah. LEAVE THE SLIPPAHS AT HOME First of all, if you're wearing slippers on Hotel St. you are a brave, brave soul. It took me a lifetime of training on the streets of Chinatown in broad daylight to hone the cat-like reflexes necessary to dodge and leap over the all the unidentified liquids on the sidewalk. A novice attempting the same feat at night? Sheer lunacy But even if you do have the skills, it'd be best to leave your slippers and puka t-shirt at home, because Bar 35 has managed to create a refreshing high maka maka type atmosphere without high maka maka people. (Translation: The establishment has high-class decor without snooty people). From the impressive beer menu (try the Old Rasputin Imperial Stout...incredible) to the lengthy happy hour (4-7pm M-F) to the outdoor patio, it's easy to see why Bar 35 has struck a chord with everyone from young 20-somethings to the downtown after-work crowd. read more

My favorite go-to bar, hands down. The service here has ALWAYS been great. George has always been accommodating and friendly, whether it's First Friday and packed or Beer-Tasting Wednesday night and chill. Stephanie's been great to us - always saying what's up and chatting for a bit. The beer tasting events on Wednesday nights are perfect - busy, but not overly so, and you get to sample 8 beers from Bar 35's wide selection. Andy(?) the "brewmollier" is always helpful and engaging with the history and back story of the brews available (though he's not directly affiliated with Bar 35, that I know of). The food is always a hit - the Gyromatic pizza and the fries with the wasabi mayo and curry mayo are my personal faves. Absolutely delicious. The best time to come down is happy hour (NOT first friday). Excellent specials, with $3 drafts and $4 SKYY vodka specials daily. My favorite thing about Bar 35 is that it just works - from First Friday to beer tasting to live bands & DJ's to Nintendo Wii (Mondays!). Very quickly, it became my "Cheers" bar, and it's a great place to enjoy. read more

Despite my last review for Bar35, I truly am a fan of the establishment and I feel they do a lot of great things here. The pizzas are awesome as are the dipping sauces which you can order with your fries ($0.50/sauce). The variety of beers is extremely impressive and a great place to try new beers you normally wouldn't find in bars. I came back to Bar35 for the Utopia Beer Tasting night with Sam Adams. The crowd was definitely smaller (probably cause the cost of the tasting). But service was so much better! We sat at the bar this time around, and our drinks were always filled. We never had to ask for the next sample as the bartender was on it. I apologize, but I didn't catch his name, but he was great. The samples of pizzas were a good way to try different pizzas and instead of 1-2 samples, I was able to try 3-4. I enjoy the beer tastings hosted here and hope they will continue to offer them. read more

Good priced Happy Hour drinks and not so bad priced thin crust pizza, but bad management. Went to Happy Hour last week and at our tables there were little flyers showcasing their 8 beer samplers with pizza for $20. When the bill came, they charged $25. I inquired our waitress and told me to ask the manager. If the manager just apologized for the misprint and said hope i had a good time - I would of been fine. HOWEVER, manager was so rude. He claimed it was an old flyer - Three years to be exact (lies! i doubt you have flyers from 3 years ag). I said well for your information it's sitting all over your lounge tables, you shouldn't be leaving them out. Then he raised his voice and said " ARE YOU SAYING YOU ONLY DID THE DEAL BECAUSE IT WAS $20!!" I said yes. and he's like fine- here's $5! So he knew he was swindling everyone because most people don't look at their bill too closely. It wasn't about the $5, it was the principle! There were about 10 people in our group and 5 of us who opted for the beer/pizza promotion. Looks like they tried to sneak in at least $25 from our group alone, who know what other false pricing they do. read more

Had an event at Bar 35's patio bar on a Wednesday. There was a minimum food order, which was fine. However, nearly 50% of the food that was 100% pre-ordered did not come out until after all the guests left (literally every guest). We asked them to cancel the remaining food once our last guest left, but they insisted we pay for it and a 20% mandatory tip. Mind you, our event was 3 hours long, so there was ample time to bring all the (bar) food out while the guests were present. Being that it was a Wednesday, the inside bar had a handful of patrons, & we could've easily had an event without the mandatory quotas. Will not be back for events or for as an individual due to greedy management/ownership. read more

Say no more, they have quite a repertoire of bottled goodness, so picking your choice of poison for the night/evening won't be a problem rest assured. they have a well endowed dance floor for the people that like to strap-on their dancing shoes/stilettos/heels/flats/slippers/sandals/moon-boots. for the past times i've been there, they'd have special guest DJ's fresh from the states as well as the very talented local DJ's we have here in HI as well. so prep yourself to adjust yourself to all kinds of music headed your way. it's fun . . . if it isn't to you, i highly suggest reaching for that 40, that should change the vibe in no-time. the VIP rooms are very S&M looking (which i dig), and their couches are super fun to jump on. which BTW, if you EVER find the rooms empty and have a minute or two to spare, leave your pack quietly, run through those chain curtains and go to town on them black leather clouds they call couches! WORTH IT!!! now, for my personal choice of the creme de la creme of the whole entire Bar 35 establishment is their (what i like to call) backyard. it's open roofed so you can smoke (in respective corners of course) and send smoke signals to other bar patrons around the chinatown district. there's bamboo fencing you in so you feel like a jungle cat at times (don't be afraid of the feeling, it's completely normal). they have a lot of prestigious live shows in there as well, so if you're into the performing arts PLEASE keep track of what goes in or around that area for your own sakes. i've been there just on Fridays, saturdays, and first fridays and it's been all good-times. well, like what the homie Forrest Gump always says, "And that's all i got ta' say about thaaaaaat." read more

The waitresses were very attentive, the music was a hit or miss, and the outside area was a nice break from the front bar. The bartenders are great and had no problem keeping track of my tab. Not sure if people usually dance here or not, but there was definitely a small group of strangers dancing together that found solidarity in trying to keep the vibe alive. This review is about 3 years past due BUT this past First Friday solidified why I decided to finally write. M-Sat HAPPY HOUR. Love, love, love it. The bar food was pretty good too, kept me from "hurting" from the drinks so, it served its purpose but definitely priced right and well prepared. I had so much fun, I ended up here again at the end of the night! Can't even tell you about the music that night, tho, I had liquid courage all evening so everything was the jam to me. =) Keeping it short and sweet folks...my recap: Pros: -Generous Happy Hour! $3 Skye Vodka drinks & beer? Uh...okay! -Cool out door patio -Great staff, attentive and honest. -No cover, most of the time that is. -If you go early or on a non-first friday there's lots of room to roam. but if you do a first friday get there early or later. -Decent/ample bathrooms for the ladies Cons: -Can get crowded. -Can be a line out front. Yeah, I'm not a big fan of that. -Can charge a cover depending on the entertainment/evening. -Again, it can get crowded, so only had a problem with waiting for our drinks 1x. Don't know if homegirl was new or what but she was kinda laggin. But she made up for it with smiles & sincerity. Hey, smiles, please and thank you go a long way! Whether you're going out to be seen in the scene, or perhaps grab a quick drink and bite in a more intimate setting you'll be able to find it at Bar35 on at least one day out of the week. The Valentini's fusion-gourmet pizza is one of the main draws for Bar35's menu. If that doesn't satisfy you, then there's spicy edamame ($6), EuroFries ($6), crisp-spicy chicken nuggets ($7.50) among other options to select from. Try the new chocolate espresso martini (decaf) for something sweet without bouncing off the walls from a sugar rush or caffeine high at 10pm. Happy Hour includes top shelf vodka Chopin and Belvedere martinis at $5 each. First Fridays and other events feature DJs and live bands among other entertainment. Get there early to claim your space because the bar fills up quickly. Keep your eyes open if you sit in the patio bar out back. You never know who you'll see and what they'll be doing. LOL Bar35 was not so much of a planned excursion. And I definitely did not plan to visit on a First Friday night. But when your BFF, Richard K. asks you to have a pau hana drink, you MUST say yes! Huge beer selection + great pizza + cool music + comfy leather couches = WINNING! Okay, lame Charlie Sheen reference aside, I absolutely love Bar 35 and I pay a visit here when I'm in the mood for a nice hangout with friends on any evening of the month other than First Friday (when it is obnoxiously packed). I am especially fond of the little VIP-looking couch area near the restrooms as my friends and I have used this place as a parking spot many times. The beer selection here is superb, second only to the selection at Yardhouse in Waikiki. A lot of domestics and a heap load of import beers alike. My personal favorites are all here, from Rogue Dead Guy Ale to Spaten Optimator. Nothing like beers with 10% alcohol content to get the party started, right? While consuming their wide variety of drinks, you can also order about 6-7 different kinds of pizzas from their menu. My personal favorites are their veggie pizza (I forgot the name) and the Tuscan Sun (a glorified meat lovers pizza). These pizzas are very tasty while sober and absolutely heavenly while intoxicated. The music varies from awesome to interesting. Sometimes they go with a top-40 feel, sometimes a little 90s old school, and then on Saturday evenings they have a "Drum and Bass" night which is really hit-or-miss. Last but definitely not least, Bar 35 actually attracts a good crowd. The demographic primarily consists of working professionals and 20 to 30 somethings just looking for a nice, chill place to get some drinks. I haven't seen one fight break out here on a non-First Friday...yet again, I think that could also be attributed to the fact that most of the security team here are ex-UH Football players. Bar 35, in short, is versatile enough to go for a chill happy hour on a weekday evening or for some drunken shenanigans with your friends on the weekend. Definitely a solid 4 stars. read more

What is not to love about this place? It has the tops on all of my lists: French Fries? Check (with a bevy of dipping sauces = double check!!) Beer? Check (only 150+ beers in bottles and on tap) Comfy Couches? Checkkkkkk (said as he sinks into one and disappears from view) Pizzas? Only about 10 different delectable ones with premium ingredients (From Greek with tzatziki sauce to the Veggielicious for you non-carnies... however, I say go Spicy Bangkok, make your own joke, and thank me later!) Happy Hour? Hellz yes. One of the best on island, everyday until 8pm. If you are looking for a beer and it comes in a bottle, can, box, keg, or tupperware, chances are you will find it here. If not, you definitely cannot get it anywhere else on island. Walking into Bar 35 you are confronted by one thing - darkness. It is definitely lit to set a mood! Once your eyes adjust, you will notice the second feature - the long bar with rising shelves FILLED with beers from all over the world. Their menu is cleverly sorted by style and country (try to drink your way around the globe!) so you can find something for any palate or occasion. Don't like beer? Why did you come!!! But seriously, they have plenty of cocktails and a reasonable wine list as well. The best beers IMHO are the trappist ones - they run a little more ($9 bottle) but try one first (Chimay Blue!) and you won't be sorry. From there, branch out! Sample! NOTE: At happy hour all bottled beers are on special except these premium ones, and draft beers including Guiness, Bass, and Tsunami IPA are $3! For seating you have your choice of the main room which features large, supple leather couches (and remember, those coming in can't see you for a few minutes until their eyes adjust, so gawk away!), the bar, and a little nook by the door. After that is the mysterious chain lounge, and then an outdoor area at the back under bamboo and a pleasant tree. Just don't take the second couch from the wall where they project videos (nature documentaries, ridiculous old B&W movies that will have you and yours recreating Mystery Science Theater 3000, or old episodes of Aquaman). Why? Because that's my favorite spot! The best night to go? Wednesdays for House of Brews. $20 gets you 8 samples of the week's themed beers, as well as pizza samples and then a final beer of your choice. Highly recommended! read more

to paint a picture,bar 35 is located in a part of town where one must constantly be aware one could be pilfered at the drop of a hat. in my opinion, that simple fact adds to its allure, almost making one feel "naughty", "dangerous" or even "cheap and sleezy". then once inside, one finds the setting to be "chic" border-lining "dive". kind of like what you would get if guy fieri and ina garten did the nasty and produced a child. one would eat good but one would definitely want to stop by the free clinic the next morning. then there is the "6-foot tattooed asian amazon in daisy dukes" bartender who is not only engaging, but simply fun to watch. and let me tell you, girlfriend knows her beer. i don't usually swing that way, but on my last trip she recommended some really good brews, snatched my card placing it in her bra strap to set-up my tab, twirled around like wonder woman with a beer suddenly appearing in her hand while simultaneously sliding salty snacks down the bar/pouring the beer. i know the laws of nature dictates she only has 2-hands but i swear it looked more like 4 or 5. i think i fell in love. the courtyard is an unexpected treat that lures one in, making one feel like they are in a "secret garden" of sorts. the little "chained rooms" are enigmatic fun while their bathrooms are a pleasure to take a squat in. their pupus (if you listen closely you'll hear a choir singing the word "awesome") are to die for and their beer selection unsurpassed. Second time at Bar 35, Pizza's are good and the french fries are OK. But why do you give this place 5 Stars you ask? Bartenders are knowledgeable and the drinks are really kick ass cheap. Met some friends after work for happy hour. Really like the vibe and environs. Our waitress was attentive and nice, but hadn't tried many of the martinis so she was of little help for recommendations. For my tastes the happy hour Skyy vodka martinis are a little too froufrou, but some of my friends enjoyed them, and I was cool with the huge selection of beers, especially with a few stouts I haven't tried before. The eurofries were good, especially with the kimchee mayo which was addicting. We also really enjoyed noshing on a nice variety of thin crust pizzas. We had the Italian Perdition (imported Italian sausage, olive, anchovy, tomato sauce and mozzarella), Deep Forest (imported prosciutto, fresh mushrooms, tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and a touch of extra virgin olive oil) and Gyromatic (lamb and beef gyro meat, tzatziki sauce, romaine lettuce, tomato sauce and mozzarella). Funny thing is that after a few rounds I unknowingly ordered a second Gyromatic pizza by mistake. Come to find out my BFF pronouces "gyro" (yeer-oh) like "euro" (you-roh) so I thought the first pizza we ate was a euro pizza, which isn't even on the menu! Great happy hour, EXCELLENT pizza, and a wonderful place to go for pau hana drinks with friends. Thanks to the $3 drink specials during happy hour, we go to Bar 35 regularly and it's always a great time! I've had a love affair with this place for a good bit, I guess I was trying to keep it a secret and didn't review it. I guess it's time for this affair to be exposed. Bar 35 is a solid, consistent place in Chinatown that everyone seems to make it to for at least a bit of a night out. They've got a lot of events that go on here from fundraiser, to art, to live music. There's something for everyone. The club has a great ambiance. Nice couches inside, tall tables and even the outside patio. Get here early though because it gets crowded quick; standing room only. And don't think the crowd will let up as it gets later, people will keep coming and then you may encounter a line. Happy Hour everyday from 5pm-8pm. Great Bottled Beer selection, they've got some good ones on tap. Good mixed drink specials and some great creations. Still decent prices after Happy Hour to keep the party moving. The food. This is when the affair began. All of that before was just a flirtation and I love my booze. But the pizza is so good. My favorite by far is the french kiss, ham with brie. Yummy. They've also now got french fries with different dipping sauces. All pretty good. And there you go, I've gone public with the affair. Now you can all have a try. While on another Chinatown dungeon crawl, this haven could be a lifesaver. Often host to all sorts of Chinatown denizens, one can often find all kinda of demi-humans gracing this brick and mortar. Dwarves can find much to slake their thirst with hardy craft beers, while the more sophisticated Elven folk can enjoy a fine wine or two. Orcs are welcome as well, this being Chinatown after all. This den in the dungeon plays hosts to all sorts of festivals and contests of skill and cunning. A favorite haunt of local vampire DJ Nocturna, there are often tributes to music of yesteryear, hailing from the decade of 80 along with song contests for bards to belt out tunes from the same era. On the other side of the gold piece, there are bards that spin the wheels of steel, calling forth the spirits of electronic dance, in addition to hip hop and house. This place is a go to bar/dance place. But it depends on the night and weekend and DJ. They aren't consistent in the turn up mood, so it's always a surprise. You either get super dead and boring or super packed and turn up. We park on Nuuanu Avenue and North Beretania street, in the parking lot and just walk. It's usually hot here, since there are so many people. We usually order from the back bar because it is less crowded, sometimes. The bartender, Gretchen, has a mean resting bitch face but she's the sweetest and realest bitch there. Love her! Love when we get to listen to her playlists. So many throwbacks. read more

Arguably one of my favorite places to unwind right after work. There's a huge beer selection, amazing thin-crust pizza, euro fries with a variety of delectable sauces, couches, and an outdoor seating area. You can't go wrong any of their pizzas, but my favorites are the Sweet Bangkok and French Kiss (pizzas are half off on Mondays). What makes the euro fries addicting are the variety of sauces you can choose from for 50 cents each (I like all the aioli sauces). Lastly, I absolutely love the mood of Bar 35's outdoor seating area. The bamboo trees coupled with the soft red lighting really sets forth a unique experience that almost made me feel that I wasn't in Hawaii anymore. read more

I know in my review of Yardhouse I started with the "99 bottles of beer on the wall... but on tap!" but Bar 35 is the true place for 99 literal bottles of beer on the wall! That is what you first see when you walk into the bar. So many offerings and their happy hours really make me happy! Who else offers happy hour until 10pm on a Saturday night?! Tried their Berry Martini, beer-mosa (apple cider & champagne), kiwi martiini, Boston Lager, Kentucky cobbler. Everything was great in my opinion, except for the Kentucky cobbler, I'm not a big fan of whiskey (except for Maker's 46). Even though they opened at 6 on Saturday, their kitchen didn't open until 7. Tried their Thai pizza ($12) and chicken nuggets ($8). Their pizza is great and the nuggets are ehh. Good drunkeness food though! So the 5 drinks and food totaled to $64-ish (tip not included). read more

Happy hour with $3.75 Skyy cocktails and $4 beers? Uh, YES PLEASE. Bar 35 is a great place for cheap drinks and a chill environment. There's an indoor area complete with bar stools and couches, as well as an outdoor patio area with couches. The bartenders are really friendly and sweet. They have great beers on tap and bottled, and all of the cocktails I've tried have been good. And PIZZA. They have tasty flatbread pizzas. My favorite is the Deep Forest pizza. Keep an eye out for their special events. Sometimes they'll hold beer tasting events on Wednesday nights, where you get 9 tastings for $25 and servers walk around with free pizza. I've been to their cider tasting, their Rogue beer tasting, and their summer beer tasting. All three were well worth it, and at the Rogue tasting I got a free glass! read more

Bar 35 is a fun place to hang out with friends for happy hour--especially if you can make it before they start charging cover and it gets super crowded. The ambiance is great--I love that there's the outdoor area, with big trees and long benches as well as the indoor lounge area with brick walls and dark lighting. The beer menu lists alcohol percentage for each beer, so you can kind of guide what kind of evening you'll have. I also must be getting old, because the music gets kind of loud in the later parts of the evening, and it gets a bit tiring to shout to have a conversation. Despite the noise level, I would definitely go back for happy hour. read more

There is a reason that the first picture of Bar 35 is pizza. It's because it is the best flat crust pizza that you're gonna find in a bar suckas! And they have awesome fries too. What! I swear to the gods, go out back in their cute little outdoor area and get yourself a drinky drink and order some pizza. I don't care if you've already eaten dinner, life is short, you would be cutting yourself short if you don't try some. And besides, all of those drinks need to get soaked up in your belly. Then you can last through the night and go back inside and dance it up a little. They have loungy seating too- nice and comfy and perfect for pictures especially if you're in a nice sized group. read more
