Excellent service! Went during first Friday and we put our names in for a table at a set time. Had time to shop the vendors and walk the area, and come back to eat. Table was ready on time, and our waitress was helpful with lots of suggestions. They offer tasting samples of beer if you want to sample before ordering something you haven't tried before, which is great. Everything we ordered was delicious and we weren't rushed to get out, like some places do. Appetizers and entrees were actually spaced apart an appropriate pace so you could enjoy them without feeling like you had all this food piling on your table, or you had to hurry up and finish one thing fast. Beet Salad with Burrata $16- if you like beets, get this. Brussel sprouts- I thought it was average. Polenta with mushroom -$17- get this! The polenta is so soft and flavors go perfect with the green onion and mushrooms. Polenta has some cheese flavor to it. The flavor of the cheese with green onion, mushroom and vinaigrette is perfect. Double cut pork chop with crushed yams and cranberry mostarda $30- wow! If you want an entree, get this. Pork chop cooked perfectly. The mashed up yams weren't that sweet, and the cranberry mostarda is a hint of sweetness. It compliments perfectly the savory of the pork chop. It has huge levels of different flavors. Superb food. Great service. Ambience is a dark, crowded, noisy tavern. This is the remodeled Madhatters Tea House. Parking spaces are a rarity, be prepared to pay $15 across the street on First Friday. Quail: delicious smoky flavor, miniature portion even though it's the whole bird. Tasty onions with a light, sweet, pickled flavor. Baby Arugula and a tiny fried Quail egg completed the theme. Beet salad: tomato slices and a small lump of mozzarella. The dressing was a thin swirl. The pralines sprinkled throughout are fun. Beets aren't expensive so it's a wonder why portions aren't larger. Chicken n pickle has a similar beet salad that has this beat. Brussel sprouts: roasted with a sweet glaze. Kudos, these are some right! Large portion for 2 or 3 people. Frites: French fries with ketchup, no surprises here. I was hoping for beef fat flavor or a special trio of dipping sauces. Apple crisp dessert: just like grandma used to make. Oven baked Oats layered on top of a bowl of apple pie filling. Ice cream scoop topped it off. Dranks. Mulled cider with Bourbon, a warm spiced concoction that will transport you to a mideval German village during Christmas time. It'll have you singing about gluvein in an instant. Sweet with dominating apples and Cinnamon on the nose. Lavender gin + hibiscus + foam top. Strong, elegant and citrus flavors. Smells like amore, might get you laid. Espresso martini: boozy Frappuccino in a glass Overall, our stay was short, and we didn't eat enough but we had just the right amount. Imagine giving a child who has never had more than 4 crayons, an entire box of crayons. Now imagine asking that child to color in an uncolored outline of an alligator. What might that child hand you back?? Will they use all the greens and browns to make a hyper realistic alligator?? Had the duck, tasted like dirty pond water. Spent 11pm to 4am not knowing which way to face on the toilet. I can't say for certain it was dinner, but also definitely can't rule it out. I had a watermelon drink across the street at a different place, but otherwise it was all this place. Ambiance: I'd say is urban cowboy covered patio bar? Service: Austin hipster who has learned to emote positively at people. Appetizers: Chamoy Brussel sprouts: pretty good Quail: Fine, kinda dry. Similar flavor to a fire grilled chicken. Wine pears, winey Polenta: fine Main: Peking inspired duck with noodles: Noodles were fine. Duck had rubbery skin (This is the opposite of the peking duck), the sauce was screaming wine and the flavor of the duck itself was inedible. Basically, it was French style duck with Asian flavors thrown at it. Unable to eat the duck I had some porkchops. It was fine as far as pork chops go. My general impression. If you decide as a food person to explore flavor combinations. It's your job to taste it. Just because you use the native pronunciation for mushrooms doesn't immediately make the food taste good. My favorite place to go to, the food is always coming out hot and delicious never disappoints, plus I am a picky eater to deal with. I recommend this place for dates nights, birthdays, etc. It is small inside the place so make sure to make reservations on weekends. read more

Everything we had was delicious and well executed. This restaurant has a "bar" vibe. It is very lively(loud) with neighboring tables very close together. If you're social this is definitely a choice place because you're probably going to hear the conversations of strangers sitting next to you. Personally I don't think it's great for a date night, but great if dining with a group. Service was unfortunately below average which was disappointing. Our experience was okay, but definitely think Bar Loretta is worth trying. read more

My friend suggested we go here for dinner and boy I was so pleasantly surprised by the ambience and food! I got here at 5:30pm on a weekday and the small parking lot in front of the restaurant was all taken. So, I parked on the street. When I walked in, the restaurant was nearly empty. I got seated immediately. For starters, we ordered quail and for entrees, I ordered cod and my friend got lamb chops. My friend got her favorite cocktail and I got a mocktail for drinks. The food was great, especially the sauce that came with the cod! For dessert, I got the banana nut French toast crème brûlée. The name is misleading as I thought I would get a crème brûlée, but I actually got a French toast. But, that didn't stop me from gulping down the French toast! I'm sorry but I had a not so good experience at Bar Loretta. I sat at the bar where I thought I'd have quicker access to all their menu items. And initially the experience was right on. I was served a glass of white wine and then placed my order for dinner. And then proceeded to wait and wait and wait for my entree to show. I had a second glass of wine. I finally asked a young barback to check on my order and he checked and said it was coming. Then I asked another bartender about my order and he disappeared to the back room. But ten minutes it was till not there. I was already on my second glass of wine taking note of other customers who were being served ahead of me, even though I was there first. I wondered if it was me! Finally, my entree came almost 40 minutes after I placed my order and even though it was a delicious plate of grilled shrimp, my mood was ruined for the night. They offered to top off my wine with more wine and I declined because I was already feeling the fact of the first glass and a half. So I ate in sullen silence. When the bill came, the 2nd glass of wine was cut from the tab, which was nice, but as I said the night was already soured. I don't raise a stink, I don't like making a scene, I simply don't tip. In this case, I gave the minimum and stepped away. Too bad because it looked like a great place and people from another restaurant (Leche de Tigre) recommended it to me. But I doubt that I'll be coming back. read more

My only regret? Not taking photos of our food and drinks. We came for a birthday celebration so we were immediately seated at our reserved table. We proceeded with our cocktails. I had Chasing Ghosts which is vodka based and my husband had Smoke on the Water which is made with Mexcal. We both enjoyed our drinks. We had an array of appetizers: crispy brussel sprouts, Mac and cheese and prosciutto crusted morbier cheese. All delicious which the brussel sprouts being my favorite. We also ordered an array of main entrees. My husband said that his burger was one of the best he's had in a while. I had their special of the night which was a grilled swordfish. Our waitress was good. We were constantly being attended to. The place itself is cute. It's the typical old house on Southtown that was repurposed as a restaurant. Went today for the first time. Loved. Loved. Loved the place. Customer service was extraordinary. I did arrive a little early prior to the opening -here's a hint- you can also grab a bit to eat and drink at their shop (alcoholic or non) prior to bar Loretta opening up. If you live in the local area I would definitely recommend stopping by for quick drug store needs, heck they even had fresh ground beef for sale -can't beat that. Came last night and tried 3 different items; the polenta cakes, the boss burger and Mac and cheese. EVERYthing was *phenomenal*. The burger has a crazy thick piece of bacon, they cooked it to my desired doneness, the fries were crunchy but soft inside. Overall, I would order that burger everytime I come. The max and cheese had an amazing crunch on the top from the bread crumbs, it was rich and decadent which is everything you want from mac and cheese. The polenta cakes were stuffed with goat cheese, were crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. With a mushroom and balsamic topping, it was a great balance of flavors. The drinks we had were fantastic and well made and the service overall was great. We were greeted quickly and all of the staff was very friendly and interactive with us even though they were definitely busy. Service was amazing. We dined in on a Tuesday evening, ambiance was relaxed and not many people. We started with the Brussels sprouts and tomatoes and watermelon salad. Both were delicious and packed with flavor. We shared the peppered beef tenderloin and Mac and cheese. Staff was nice enough to plate the food separately instead of having us cut the meat ourselves. Again I can't rave enough about Ray and his attention to detail and overall hospitality, I'd come back even if the food was trash just because of him but the food was EXCELLENT! Food: I got pork chop, my mom got the Cod and we shared the sprouts. Who the hell would of thought chamoy would go well with sprouts! And chorizo with sweet potato! Hubs and I had a mid-week date night and dined at this lovely abode before catching a Spurs game. This place is literally a 100 year old house! It's located in Southtown, right in the middle of King William district and we loved everything about it - from the quaint decor, to exciting cocktails, to phenomenal food, and of course their easygoing helpful staff! We each sampled two different drinks each which were superb, and really wished we had more time to partake in their inventive lineup. Alas, we had to move on to our dinner and started with a creamy polenta cake recommended by our knowledgeable server. The appetizer was followed by my choice of grilled tomatillo shrimp, that was a skillful Tex-Mex nod to shrimp and grits which I adore. The man had his shroom burger, which was quite juicy and flavorful, as well as "manageable" as he simply put it. We skipped dessert this time as we had a game to catch, but we'll definitely be back for it! P.S. Parking - we ate pretty early and it was a Wednesday, so we were able to park right up front. But I would imagine later in the evening and especially on the weekends, parking could be a problem. P. S. S. We did make a reservation online - that's just how I roll...I plan stuff. Parking is a hassle and the menu is a bit limited when it comes to chicken or vegetarian options. The fries are SO good! The Brussels sprouts were super tasty. Bread is available upon request- GET IT. Literally, I am planning on returning just for the bread. The drinks are okay and are a bit over priced in my opinion. A hard to beat vibe and a must when they've booked a band - always fun never disappoints

Came here with a large group of friends and made a reservation online. I really appreciated the helpful host/hostess who was able to accommodate my request to change the time/number of people really easily. They have multiple private rooms for larger groups both indoor and outdoor which is super convenient. In addition, their food and drink menu was really excellent and had good variety of New American cuisine. We got a bunch of appetizers and mains to share and I really enjoyed the Shishito peppers, Brussel sprouts and the Cumin dusted shrimp although I couldn't really taste the sweetness of the rock shrimp when fried.
