Dined here for our last brunch in PV before heading to the airport - great views as it's right on the board walk / beach and great service. Once again staff was attentive and helped tweak menu items to suit the desire of the guest. They made an espresso martini for one of the girls Food was great ! Very filling. My friend did say they had the best guacamole she had throughout the trip and ordered two orders of it.

Feb 2024 Update - This elevated oceanside bar/restaurant is still a wonderful business to enjoy some food and drinks at but the service seems to have fallen off a tad bit with the newer staff they have since my last visit. Happy hour Margarita Drinks are still a deal by 2024 standards at $50 pesos each and the amazing view make this a destination bar if you are in the area. Unfortunately however I have to call em as I see em and it pains me to lower them to 4 stars but this is based on three trips so far on this most recent trip so it is not a one off bad day.

    A great dining experience!

The food, service, ocean view are all top notch & their margaritas are the best. I highly recommend trying this restaurant, and if you're in PV for any length of time, feel certain you will want to go back.

Queso with sausage and caramelized onions. Fabulous!

We have a handful of go-to places in PV, only three we can visit every day and not grow tired of them, and Bar Oceano is #1. When the heat starts to become unbearable, it's time to fight it long enough to visit our favorite spot for apps and well-made margaritas. All the food we have tried here is exceptional. But three small items are the main reason we keep coming. As odd as this may sound to any TexMex fan in the US, the first is Pico de Gallo. The flavor is the thing, some blend of lime, onion, and cilantro that hits in a way that the typical, after-thought garnish never does in the typical Mexican Texas joint. Second is what I'd call "queso" in a TexMex place, split into two items both named "Melted Cheese" on the Bar Oceano menu. Here, they blend it with chorizo, carmelized onions, white wine, mushrooms, roasted poblano chiles, and other things. It's spec-TAC-ular. The third item is corn tortillas, which is again somewhat of a throwaway item here. These are like flapjacks, some sort of soft, cakey, thick thing having a hint of sweet. It's a perfect complement to the queso. Like, wow. We have tried some other lunch items, all of which were excellent. Prices are similar to USD pricing. So, if you're looking for discount food this isn't the place. But, everything you order here will be worth every peso. Sunday is half price margarita day. Bar Oceano is on the second floor, facing the bay across from some Sergio Bustamante sculpture. We sit by the railing, where there is always a refresing breeze, even when its hot. Service has always been stellar, shout out to Paula. Highly recommended!

We were looking for a place for a drink and decided to go to the first place that did not have servers approach outside trying to get business into the door. We had uninterrupted time to look at the menu, posted by the entrance, before going inside. This Restaurant is located on the main pedestrian zone along the waterfront. When you walk inside all you see is a staircase leading upstairs. Once upstairs the restaurant is big and open with a gorgeous view of the ocean. In addition, you don't get hassled by the many street vendors walking the pedestrian zone. We were seated quickly and the service was quick and friendly. Speaking some Spanish will definitely help you get the order right. It was time to try another Pina Colada and it tasted great. I have really gotten used to getting great drinks around the area. As snack we ordered guacamole, which had great flavors and was served alongside corn chips. All together this is a great place if you want to enjoy the view of the water but don't enjoy the crowed pedestrian zone.

Right on the water and what you want from a great traditional Mexican Restaraunt! Located right down town Old Puerto Vallarta. The views are great and the service fast and friendly. Everything ordered was as fresh as fresh can be and the pace was clean and well kept. Enjoyed some great tacos!!

Taquitos Best ever!! Slap yo mamma.

Definitely hidden gem. We pay for one dollar margarita here. The taquitos was the best I've ever had around the world. You should give it a try. It's an upstairs bar the server was a little bit grumpy on a day we visit, the margarita I was a little bit too strong for us. Must be a thing in Mexico everywhere we go to my reading extremely strong. The process is fairly quick and was amazing. If you wanna save a few bucks and have it made a few for the dinner over Sunset, on the Malecon, I definitely will definitely recommend this place for budget savers

Best mango daiquiri and happy hour margarita in PV!
    Amber A.

Upstairs venue on the Malecon. It's easy to miss the sign if you aren't looking for it. It's open air with a fantastic view of the water. Service was impeccable. Bilingual staff and bill presented in both pesos and USD. Not a single complaint!

    Eric K.

The calamari was meh, but 4 stars because of $20 peso = $1 margaritas that were STRONG. A dangerous combination.

Queso, baked with fresh poblano peppers. Can't go wrong with cheese!
    Louisa M.

First things first: you don't come here for the food. It's mostly an afterthought. It tastes fine, is priced for tourists, and won't make you sick. What you really come here for is the gorgeous view and the cheap house margaritas! I usually make a point to swing by when I'm down on the Malecon for a nice drink and view. This restaurant is located on the second floor (worth the climb up the steps) and has gorgeous, sweeping views of the ocean. It's the perfect spot to watch a spectacular Puerto Vallarta sunset. The restaurant's dining room is open air so you can enjoy the warm breezes while sipping on a strong and tasty margarita that's priced at less than $1 U.S. (Pay in pesos and you'll get a far better deal than if you insist on using U.S. dollars)! The open air atmosphere also means that it can get sweltering during the summer months, so be sure to wear breathable clothing because you'll be sweaty. The chips and salsa are complimentary and good, and I'm not a fan of Bar Oceano's queso but my husband loves it (get it with poblano peppers). The guacamole is good and fresh too. Normally I just stop by for the drinks and the view. Free wi-fi and clean restroom too.

    Jack G.

Rating the drinks only: Pleasant restaurant on the second floor overlooking the Malecon. Lowest priced happy hour margaritas I've found here so far ($17 pesos in 2019). After 9 pm, the price goes up to the regular 45 peso price. Not the best margarita I've had, but it's decent and the view is hard to beat. Worthwhile.

    Great view!!!

There are places that simply serve food--and then there are places that become part of your story…read more Pepe's Tacos is exactly that for me. Having come here since I was 10 years old, this iconic taquería isn't just a local favorite--it's a timeless institution that continues to define what truly exceptional tacos should be. Since 1987, Pepe's has built a reputation that extends far beyond Puerto Vallarta, and one visit is all it takes to understand why. The star of the show--their legendary tacos al pastor--is nothing short of extraordinary. The pork is expertly marinated and cooked to perfection, resulting in meat that is incredibly juicy, tender, and bursting with deep, savory flavor. Each slice is carved with precision and layered onto warm tortillas, creating a perfect foundation for what comes next. What truly elevates these tacos is the balance of toppings. The sweetness of the pineapple and the sharpness of the fresh onions cut through the richness of the meat beautifully, enhancing every bite with contrast and complexity. It's a masterclass in simplicity done right--every ingredient playing its role to perfection. Beyond the food, the experience itself is just as memorable. The service is impressively fast and efficient, especially considering how popular this spot is, and there's an undeniable energy in the air that makes it feel alive at all hours. It's the kind of place you can count on for a late-night bite, where the atmosphere is casual, vibrant, and always welcoming. Pepe's Tacos isn't about reinvention or trend--it's about consistency, tradition, and delivering excellence time and time again. Decades later, it still holds its place as one of the best taco spots in Puerto Vallarta, and for good reason. Some things never change--and when they're this good, they absolutely shouldn't.

It's thicker, more cheesy than what I've ever had before and very delicious. We paired that with the prime rib tacos, it was a plate stacked with meat and 4 tortillas under it, more than we could eat. The seasoning was great, it was diced so small that it was easy to eat. We ordered the ribeye, al pastor, and chorizo tacos. The ribeye had so much fat that we had to pick through it just to eat it. The al pastor was very average - I've had much better at plenty of other taco spots. The biggest disappointment was the chorizo. It wasn't traditional chorizo at all; it looked and tasted more like chopped-up hot dogs. We barely touched it because it wasn't what we ordered expecting, and it just wasn't good. The presentation also wasn't appealing. The meat was simply piled on top of two tortillas, making everything messy and difficult to eat. They were also pretty stingy with the grilled jalapeños. The salsas didn't do the food any favors either. None of them really stood out, and the green guacamole salsa actually tasted like it had gone bad, so we stopped eating it. Service was attentive, but almost too attentive. Staff kept coming by every few minutes to ask if we were finished or if we needed anything. While I appreciate good service, it made us feel like we were being rushed through our meal instead of being able to enjoy it at our own pace. Overall, I don't understand the high ratings based on our experience. With so many amazing taco spots in Puerto Vallarta, this one didn't come close to meeting the hype. Unfortunately, we won't be coming back.
