Stopped by for drinks after a long walk with friends. The bartender or waitress failed to wipe the glass after beer spilled over the edge. I picked up the glass and like a bar of soap it slipped right out of my hand before I could even get a sip, and all over the people across from me. It pretty much ruined the remainder of the day for all of us. A completely full glass of beer and three people drenched. I had the opportunity to finally make it back to Bar One. Unfortunately they slipped to two stars rather than stepping up to five. Sadly it was after I tried the Guido Fries. First of all, I really wanted the Calamari Sando or one of their burgers, but our server came over and informed us that the entire top 2/3 of the menu was unavailable. I guess due to the late hour (we were there around 9:30 or 10:00 PM or so). Basically only fried food could be ordered so I opted for the Guido Fries. It's a plate of fries topped with chicken or steak, mozzarella, chipotle aioli, roasted red peppers and pepperoncinis. ($13) It actually sounds really good and was on my radar from my first Bar One visit. They were just okay at best. The fires were not very crispy, mine came with steak (server did not ask if I wanted steak or chicken) and the steak was very dry and rather flavorless. The dish seemed to be lacking the aioli, red peppers and pepperoncinis too, they were there, but barely. Just an overall disappointment. I might return to Bar One for a beer, but I'd be hard pressed to fork over $10+ for a meal if this is the norm. read more

First time I came, I sat at the bar and it took 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged me. Then the Asian bartender started serving her good friends free shots before taking my order. I mean come on, is this a business or a frat house!!! So, after my first bad experience I said okay I'll be open minded and give this new establishment a second try. We came in about 20 minutes before closing time and then once they served us they kept pressuring us to hurry and finish our drink because they were closing and they were afraid of losing their license. I have never experienced anything like this before where you get your order before last call and then they pressure you to finish your drink by midnight. Came down here because we found out that Chef Nick from Master Chef is executive chef here (I said chef a lot, I know)! We got upfront parking (unheard of in little Italy) and walked right in. They had "outdoor" (like a patio or large open area) seating as well. Looked like an casual place to kick back at and watch sports. They had a bunch of tvs so you don't have to sit in awkward positions to see. They had different kinds of IPA that the hubs like and my Angry Orchard! Yasssss! The menu is simple and not over bearing which is great. Love that I ordered the Lamb bam thank you ma'am with fries (or salad) and the hubs ordered the Chicken Parm. These were amazing links! So much flavor and the fries are well seasoned and CRISPY! Im one of those people who search for the extra chip like fries at the bottom) and service was quick. The guido poutine fries were wonderful and tasted even better with the beer! I freakin forgot to order the donut holes everyone was raving about damnit! I'll be back! Best place I have been to in a while !! You must stop by if you are in little Italy ! Let's start with the executive chef Nick Nappi who was on Gordon Ramsey's show Master chef ! He has created a brilliant menu that blows your mind ! I love burgers and their burgers have ground filet mignon, rib eye and New York steak. Crazy right ! The taste is amazing and a complete flavor explosion. It was unlike anything I have ever had before and I will be having it often. The other items I tried were all so amazing. I feel bad even saying anything negative because the food was good and the drinks were good and the servers were very nice. Unfortunately, there were five dogs in the bar when we were there. I love dogs so I'm not just some grump, but I don't think they belong in restaurants. There was a woman sitting at a table and the dog's paws were on the table and I asked one of the servers what was "the deal" with all the dogs? She told me that San Diego is a "dog friendly city." OK? I've lived in San Diego all of my life and I've yet to see that many dogs in a bar or restaurant. The clincher was when one of the servers knelt down and pet a dog, then ran her fingers through her own long hair -- and then went behind the bar and made drinks without washing her hands. Well, of course we had to make a trip to Little Italy to check out Bar One!! Great location, indoor and outdoor seating, plenty of tvs, dog friendly, kid friendly... oh and the food is amazing!! We had the meatballs, wings, gnocchi and aracini. Everything was excellent. We asked for some extra of the Sunday gravy, because you can never have too much gravy. The gnocchi was very refreshing and the meatballs with ricotta were so good. Didn't even get to try the wings because our 9 year old ate all of them so I'm guessing they were great, too. They were the same slim cut as McDonald's, but they did have some seasoning to them that made them good. Cool atmosphere. Laid back. Great place to grab a few drinks or dinner with a couple friends. The wings were a little overlooked, but the flavor was great! Unfortunately, I was really bummed that that service was super slow. Little Italy desperately needed a sports bar you could go to to watch a game. This is a great spot centrally located and they allow dogs! The menu is very small but the fries are some of the best I have ever had and I love fries. You get a small amount which is a clear downside. My burger was medium ra re and mushy with a hard cooked outside which means the cooks were rushing through the order. It was really busy and there was clear confusion with the servers. They brought my drink order twice while not bringing my group's beers at all. My server had to come back and clarify my order since she thought I ordered calamari when I ordered a burger(?).
