This is a classic place. My father, my wife, and my sisters came here last winter and had an absolute blast. The food, the beer, the jukebox.. it was so much fun. My father, who is nearing 60, new the waitress from when he used to come here when he was in his twenties. My grandfather used to come here as well for their pizza. Make sure you order the garlic bread! Food is above average, my favorites are the sliced steak and corn beef and cabbage. They should off cb&c year round. Prices are very low as an entree wont cost you more than $10. Soft drinks are a flat $1. You can't find that anywhere anymore! Always $1.75,$2.49 elsewhere. They don't take cards so bring cash. Been coming here awhile now with my husband. The staff is great, always very friendly. The food is fantastic, we usually get pasta dishes - the left overs are usually big enough for a meal the next day! Eggplant parm here is my fav. The prices honestly can not be beat. The portions are generous and inexpensive and the food is really good. A few non food related issues resulted in a 3 star rating: 1) It was 11:30 am on a sunny summer day and it was quite warm in the restaurant. When I asked the waitress she said the air was on but they just opened and it would take a while for it to work. It was too warm for me to focus on food. It cooled off a tiny bit by the time I was done with my meal but not enough for it to be comfortable. 2) The drinking glasses are ridiculously small 3) They only accept cash (?) and there is no sign on the door or the register (or the website for that matter) so you order and then try to pay with credit card and they won't take it. They have an ATM but on top of your food order you have to pay ATM fees. I know they think they can keep the prices low by only taking cash but at least inform diners. 4) They do not sell slices of pizza, only the whole pie. Sometimes you just want a slice. read more

Terrible. Been many times and loved it. Last night, stopped in with my better half and ordered what should have been a slam dunk Friday night out. What the heck happened? Buffalo Wings were the worst I've ever had. (what bar can't do a good order of Buffalo Wings???). And to top it off, both pizzas (yes, two) were loaded up with Cheddar Cheese and not Mozzarella Cheese. When I told the server, she immediately refuse to accept that. I'm sorry, but I despise Cheddar Cheese. I know it the second I taste it. If the restaurant was out of Mozzarella, fine. But don't try to sell me a Cheddar Cheese pizza and then fight me on it. We brought the other one home as my husband wasn't completely convinced. Sure enough, bright yellow cheese. The meals have progressively gotten worse, and I think I'm done trying Barcelona's. This is a Garfield staple. It's cash only, and as a result- the prices are very reasonable. I come here for their brick oven style pizza and anti pasta salad. They have a pretty big menu but I would stay away from their pasta. The sauce they use for the pasta is not very good. If you want a delicious pizza for a decent price, this is the place you want to go. This is one of the top pizza destinations in Garfield. read more

NJ Radio 101.5 just released a list of the top 25 pizza pies in NJ. I live way south, and totally don't agree with the one establishment in my neighborhood that made the list. I started thinking - "Where is my favorite pie?" It was always Barcelona's in Garfield. How a farmer's daughter like me ever found her way to Bergen County is a whole other story, and I haven't had a Barcelona pie (1/2 cheese, 1/2 mushroom) in a few years, but I've never stopped craving it. Huge, thin, crispy, served hot enough to burn the roof of your mouth. Tasty sauce, just enough cheese, and the right amount of grease on top. Mmmmmm. Loved the afternoons I'd split one with my love, and have a bowl of Barcelona's yummy, garlicky white pasta fagiola soup, while the sassy waitresses clucked and bet I'd never finish mine. PLEASE tell me it hasn't changed. I'm going to get back there one day & I hope the pie is still worth a 100 mile trip! read more

Barcelona's is one of those restaurants that has been around for years and years (and looks like it) and has a "loyal" following. The locals love it. Maybe the food was great thirty years ago, but it really leaves alot to be desired at this point. It's your typical Italian menu, with pizzas, pastas, steak sandwiches, etc. I've been here loads of times (due to the fact that my hubby & in-laws love it...guess it's a nostalgic thing for them) and the food has always been "blah." The pizza is greasy and tasteless; the salads come in those wooden bowls from the 1970's with some neon orange dressing on the side. Even the fries suck, which I didn't know was possible! I guess a plus for most people is that you get huge portions for 1970's prices....the menu hasn't changed at all and I think the bill for 7 people was like $40! If you're on a budget and want to take your family out to eat at a local place, I guess its okay. But don't make any special trips or anything...it's not worth it! read more

well...this place pleasantly surprised me. I'm not from the area...I'm from the more stuck up side of bergen county where dinner for 2 is usually 100$ for my husband and I. We won a gift certificate to Barcelona from a tricky tray. I was nervous to go, thinking it might not be a good meal. Boy was I wrong!!! The garlic bread was the best I ever had. I had spagetti with marinara and shrimp and I am so picky about my sauce but this was so delicious!! the minestrone was a little bland but salt and crackers fixed that. husband had meatball parm which was delicious. just home cooked good Italian food. the prices are incredible. I can't believe how much good food we got for such reasonable prices. I definitely suggest trying this whether or not you're in the area. the 25 min drive was worth it, I'll definitely be back. can't wait to try the pizza I hear its amazing from many people. to survive 30 years in this world this place has to be good read more

If you're looking for good food, at a VERY reasonable price, this is the place. It has a family style, no frills type atmosphere. The pizza is a typical thin crust bar pizza. The burgers are not the typical pre-frozen bland patties; they are homemade and served with great fries. Barcelona's is one of the last family style places where you can get a large pie (or a great burger) and pitcher of beer for the price of fast food. read more

There was a time going to Barcelona's was something special. It offered a simple but fun time out. Winning a Little League Game meant going to Barcelona's and setting up in the side room. And the only reason for going to Barcelona's was for the pizza. The pizza was totally unique - and off-the-chart. The crust was paper thin and golden, the sauce was orange and thin and the cheese - did I say the cheese - was something nowhere else severed. It was creamy and rich and bubbled up like nobodies business. It was so yummy it form mini "oil slicks" that everyone loved. I remember getting this special type of pizza most of my life. However, the pizza drifted over the past several years and is no longer that classic memory of years past. The pizza is still good, but the crust is a bit thicker and doesn't brown as well. The sauce is red, a bit tart and thicker, while the cheese is somewhat typical. The pizza is still good, but a far cry to what it once was. I really can't comment on the other food, as I always got the pizza. Thanks Barcelona's for the good memories, however, I'm still craving your old pizza recipe! read more

As it is outdated, it's still a really comfy and enjoyable place. The food tends to be hit or miss, though their cheeseburgers are always to die for (try it on garlic bread, you have to usually ask), their half chicken is really good and I actually love their mussels. I was never a fan of their pizza but their other pasta dishes are delicious. All in all, you can't go wrong for the price. read more

I am a Bronx girl that is very opinionated about her pizza. Seriously, the Bronx or any of the boros has the best. It's all about the water. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the pizza in this restaurant was excellent. I truly loved it. The restaurant has been around for a very long time, but that's the beauty of it. I like neighborhood places and this represents some of the best I've been too. If you like trendy, snobby places this is not for you.
