Very busy at lunch time in FiDi! You can bet this place is always popping so it's good to call ahead of time. Dash (the main host) is quite lovely and was able to accommodate my team of 8 right at noon on a Wednesday (even though they had a private event going on). My team pretty much all got shawarmas and they were pretty good portions! I snagged some of the fries and they were DELICIOUS My coworker and I shared the Persian Saffron rice and thought it would be enough but this meal is definitely fit for 1. I came here for lunch with coworkers and ordered the shrimp skewers (appetizer size) along with a salad. THE SHRIMP SKEWERS WERE DELICIOUS. Shrimp perfectly cooked and the sauce was absolutely DIVINE. As in, write in ALL CAPS, use my fork to get every bit, would have licked the plate if I had any less self control, level of divine. Went here for a work lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. Since it was lunch rush, it was very busy and still cold due to it being winter out here in the Bay. The servers were really attentive and nice and had seated us outdoors with very strong heaters in which we kindly asked to turn off at one point. The food and service were quite quick. My colleagues and I had a team dinner at this classy Mediterranean venue with reservations at 6 pm on a Monday night! The place was moderately packed with groups and couples! Let's dive in :) AMBIENCE: The atmosphere of the restaurant was ideal with ambient lighting, trendy decor, and great seating from high tables, bar seating, or regular tables. SERVICE: The service was fast, traditional restaurant since their waiters had pen and paper to write down our orders instead of an electronic device. Our waiter was patient as not our entire group was present, but gave us quality service in recommendations for their speciality drinks. The waiter was professional since some of us were waiting on our drinks, so he explained how the bar is backed up and thanked us for our patience. ORDERS: We had a pre-set menu that gave us full exposure of Barcha's delicacies. -Barcha's Gin and Tonic: refreshing and light dish that wasn't overpowering on the alcoholic flavor. The drink was a sight to see with the pristine color, the scent of lemon, and interesting with the spices included. I enjoyed the drink throughout the night with its complex flavors from sweet and spice. -Pita Bread: large stack of bread that everyone loved to cleanse their palates throughout the night. -Falafels: great presentation with array of vegetables decorating the appetizers. The combinations of garlic, dill, cucumber, and tahini were a nice explosion of flavors with the exterior being crunchy. Somewhat of a gritty aftertaste, but I enjoyed it. -Fattoush Salad: Excellent medley of spring vegetables that were refreshing and the bitterness amplified the sweetness from the pomegranate. The feta cheese was great for that salty, savory factor. Good dish to whet our appetites for the main entrees. -Seared Salmon: It was my least favorite dish of the night; it tasted still fishy and a bit too salty. The skin was a bit too chewy and the vegetables splattered on the fish were soggy. -Grilled Chicken Kebob: This was everyone's favorite dish of the night from what I recall. Great char on the meat that gave its smoky and crunchy flavor. Very filling. The chicken was tender, juicy, and was seasoned well with caramélized onions, tahini yogurt, and pepper. -Baklava: lovely presentation and bite sized and a savory way to end the night. It took some time for them to take our order and we did have to flag someone down to do so. Between the 4 of us we decided to get the spiced beef dumplings, kabocha squash hummus, grilled chicken kebab, and persian tahdig. The appetizers were quite good with the hummus being a unique flavor and the dumplings having a somewhat Italian-like flavor? For the entrees, I loved how tender the chicken was though we all found the tahdig to be a tad salty, and the rice wasn't as crispy as we hoped. I did enjoy getting to taste a little bit of everything and since I don't have Mediterranean food too often, I wasn't even sure what I was eating to be honest. I just knew it was delicious. I've generally had good experiences at Barcha but this review is for my latest experience there which was a bit disappointing. My team came here for lunch on a Wednesday. The restaurant was pretty busy since the weather was nice, but they were able to get us seated outside. The service was generally slow - it took them 5+ mins to even get us water. Our appetizers also took a while to come out. What was disappointing was the fact that the entrees took over an hour to come out. Our server never proactively told us about any delays in the kitchen - we had to follow up multiple times. After 4/6 of our entrees finally came out, we had to follow up once again to ask about the last 2. I ordered a fattoush salad with salmon and it was one of the last 2 entrees to come out. Strangely enough, when my salad finally came out, our server let us know the salmon was undercooked and that the kitchen was still cooking it. Instead, he brought out my salad with a side of chicken in the meantime, which we thought was a little strange. My salmon eventually came out and it was luckily cooked (maybe a little over cooked). When we asked for our check, our waiter kindly let us know that they would be comp-ing all of our appetizers to compensate for the long wait time. However, when we received our check, we saw that 1/ they did not comp one of the appetizers and 2/ they had charged for the extra side of chicken (!!). Our waiter promptly fixed the bill when we flagged it to him but it was still strange how the random side of chicken (that we never ordered) ended up on the bill in the first place. Anyway, what was meant to be a nice lunch turned into a frustrating 2hr experience for us. Needless to say, we will be not including Barcha in our rotation of food options in the near term. read more

The tahdig's duck fell off the bone and the egg on top was perfectly runny. The rice had a crispy crust on the outside too. The shakshouka was delicious and had lots of different spices (not hot spice). Great sausage too. The chicken khebab was A+ too. I usually don't eat chicken anymore because I ate way too many dry chicken breasts in college (for bodybuilding) but the kebab was juicy and tender. The rice that came with it was very flavorful too. Nice ambiance and solid eats. Came here with a group of 4 and we shared 2 appetizers and 2 entrees. To start, we had the spiced beef dumplings and the kabocha squash hummus. The hummus was definitely my favorite; the kabocha squash added a sweetness to the usual tanginess of hummus, and the crispy halloumi cheese and pepitas added some nice texture. The beef dumplings were great as well; the flavor reminded me a bit of Italian meatballs. The entrees were decent, although not as good as the apps IMO. We had the tahdig, which came with saffron rice and duck breast. The rice was flavorful, but while tender, the duck breast was too salty. The octopus was perfectly cooked but there must have been only 5 tiny slices inside what looked like mostly legumes. The barcha sides were delicious and beautifully plated but only came with 3 pita for 5 people. We had to wait ( and pay for) 2 additional orders just to eat the appetizers. The burrata wasn't fresh but came on a delicious sweet potato so I pushed the burrata to the side. We tried 3 entrees: The duck was well executed from the runny egg to the crispy rice; The lamb racks were overcooked & I didn't care for the chicken skewers and rice. I came to Barcha a few months back with three other friends. Honestly great food, great service, love the laid back and dimly lighted ambience. Between the four of us we decided to get the Moroccan cigars, the chickpea hummus for the starters along with a few of their speciality cocktails - Marbella and the Spanish Sangria. The cocktails were delicious specially the Spanish sangria. The appetisers were quite good specially the Moroccan cigars which had a great flavour to it. For the mains we ordered the grilled chicken kebabs and the half lamb rack. I loved how tender the chicken was and the lamb just melted in my mouth. The lamb was definitely the highlight of the night and I would come back for it. Mediterranean food is one of my favourite cuisines and I really enjoyed the food at Barcha. We ordered the Turkish Baklava and the Mocha Mayes cake for the desserts and both the desserts were spectacular. I loved dining here, the only drawback is that it's very pricy.
