Good food but so-so service sums up our experience at Barking Mad Cafe's weekend brunch. Food: we split the beignets, French toast, and classic eggs Benedict. Everything came out fresh, warm, and tasty. Drink: we ordered a spiced cider and latte. Cider was very good, and the latte was OK. Service: very slow and disorganized. It took almost 10 minutes to flag down a staff member for sugar for the coffee, and we didn't get silverware until after our entrees showed up. In addition, it was different people taking our order, bringing individual food and drink items over, and closing out our tab at the end of the meal. Didn't feel like a very cohesive dining experience and brings down what could have been a 5-star brunch to 4 stars. read more

This was my first time visiting Barking Mad Cafe let alone Gaithersburg. It was an overall pleasant experience. I was allowed to do call ahead seating and was quoted a 1 hr wait. The wait was only about 30 mins and we were seated inside. The vibe and decor are cool. Hip and chic with an open kitchen... not to mention it was very clean! I really enjoyed this place we had a party of 6 to celebrate a friend's birthday in late August. We arrived on a Sunday without reservations. We we're lucky that it wasn't busy. We were able to get a table outside and the weather was perfect. The barkacchino was delicious and had just enough alcohol for a Sunday morning. I ordered the breakfast pizza, which I really enjoyed. I split it with a friend, who ordered the eggs Benedict, which I also enjoyed. I think the pizza was my favorite. The beignets were really good too. Ideal happy hour spot! Coworkers and I went after work and were deeply impressed by the delicious food and drinks. If you love tea, try the Werewolf in London. A coworker enjoyed the barkaccino, which had a gorgeous presentation and was topped with whipped cream. We shared and loved the Thai wings as an app. The pizzas are incredible and a decent size, I really recommend the pancetta + fig (perfect mix of savory and sweet). I cannot speak to the inside, but the outdoor patio is lovely and has dreamy lights. We also sat under the tarp as it poured and we were completely protected from the rain. The place we busy and we were quoted about an hour wait. They sat us about 30 minutes later so that's good. The table weren't wiped down as I can still see wet glass rings on the table. No worries - We wiped down the table ourselves. Then we sat. Then I started seeing other guests that sat after us being greeted and not us. Ok. The server lost the sequence, no big deal... We were finally greeted and since we sat for a while we already know what we want. We ordered beignets for the table and we ordered individual entrees for each of us - my friend got the meat lover, my wife the pancetta + fig pizza and I got the carnitas egg Benedict as recommended by the server. All three of us also ordered coffee drinks. Server also came by later and dropped off water for the table. After a bit we got our beignets - they were great! Love the texture and the lemon dipping sauce, which is not too sweet! Very delightful! While we were still enjoying the beignets our food arrived. It's a bit quick but sure! why not? At this point I inquired about our coffee drinks to the lady who brought out our food said she will look for them. My friend loved his meat-lovers breakfast, which has sausage, ham, potatoes, and scrambled eggs. It also looks great! My wife did not like the pancetta/fig pizza. I tried a piece and it was too sweet with the fig jam which over-powers all other favors. For example, I don't like blue cheese and I can't taste it with this pizza even though the menu said it has blue cheese in it. My carnitas egg Benedict was also a disappointment. The poached eggs were done perfectly with excellent hollandaise sauce, however, the carnitas was way too salty and dry. Like the pizza, it dominated the overall taste of the dish. The server came over to check on us, I let him know we still have not gotten our coffee drink yet. He went to look for them. We are about half-way done with our entrees when the coffee drinks arrived. Unfortunately none of us liked what we got. Wife's Chai latte was way too sweet. My Valencia mocha was quite sweet (I don't mind that) but it was only luke-warm (I do mind this). My friend was also not impressed with the cortado he ordered. Overall not sure we will come back. What a very cute place for a weekend brunch with your friends and family. It is a lot bigger inside, than it looks on the outside. The kitchen is also an open concept, which makes it feel more homey. The food was good, however the beignets were slightly too airy for me. When i went to cut or bite it, it just deflated. But the waffles and french toast were yummy!! Went for a coffee and ended up ordering breakfast. The place is adorable, indoor- outdoor seating available. Perfect for a quick to go or a sit down after 11am. I ordered a honey nut latte. Imagine a Cappuccino and Honey Nut Cheerios whipped up to perfection. If you like a sweet / honey like coffee you must try! The food portions were large, the avocado toast was delicious, bread was crisp, the avocado had cilantro and it was extremely fresh. It came with eggs that were fluffy and warm. We ordered the breakfast sandwich as well. It came on a brioche- you can add turkey, bacon or ham to it as well. Barking Mad is THE place to be on a Saturday night. Alongside the live music performance, the ambience is very relaxed, friendly and warm. Giorgio is the best manager BMC has ever had and he treats everyone as family with a smile and with love. You can tell he is passionate about the quality of the food and makes your entire experience there welcoming. I look forward to seeing him every time. The fish tacos here are great! They were well seasoned and had lots of toppings and sauce. Even getting them via takeout was great, they were warm by the time we got home! Barking Mad Cafe is nothing short of barking good! The staff was friendly and kind, they pay attention to details that most waiters and waitresses wouldn't when they're clearly busy. Although we had to wait quite a while for someone to take our order, once we ordered, the pace of service picked up. They were very baby friendly and with a good variety of options on their menu for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. All 3 very important things! The fried cauliflower with spicy avocado was by far my favorite dish of the meal! It tasted and felt like a tempura batter and was just yummy. The fish tacos were pretty good, but I wish the fish had been a little meatier. My friends super bowl looked delicious and she enjoyed it immensely. Went to Barking Mad Cafe this weekend for my friend's birthday and had an amazing experience. The atmosphere and vibes of this place is beautiful, very well decorated and the staff was amazing. They have entrees and as well as a coffee bar inside of the restaurant which added to charm. My friend and i got a meat lovers pizza that was big enough for both of us to split and as well as sweet potato fries for the table and for desert the tiramisu. We also had the bottomless mimosas and the flavor in them was delicious and worth the money. The food was hot and very flavorful. Aside from the food, the service was the best my friend and i have ever experienced. Our waitress Natalia was very attentive and kind. She kept checking up on us, and making sure that we were enjoying our meal and going above and beyond for my friend's birthday. We will be going back for the food and also to have Natalia as our waitress. Perhaps the most interesting thing are the drinks, which are made with house-made syrups. My Werewolf in London was a splendid take on a normal laté. (Considering its made with tea it should be). HIP & TRENDY Came here on a sunday for brunch with my bae. We spontaneously picked this brunch place because we were in the area and it didn't disappoint. Since we didn't have reservations, we were put on a waitlist and it took around 30 minutes. If you don't have the time to wait, I would highly recommend making reservations because this place is definitely packed on Sundays during brunch hours. The only thing I didn't like about my experience at Barking Mad Cafe is the table set-up. I felt very claustrophobic because each table was very close to one another - if you stretched your arms or tried to scoot your chair backward, you would most likely touch someone. As for the food, it was good. The avocado toast was pretty basic - I wouldn't order it again; however, the smoked salmon breakfast pizza with white sauce is mouthwatering! They crack an egg on the pizza! I thought that only &pizza did that - boy was I wrong. I would definitely order this again if I ever were to come back! As for drinks, I ordered the ROSIE! I met up with a friend from Europe here for a quick get together. All the seating in the entry area was "reserved" so we sat in the larger seating area. It was 9 am and we were only going to be there for 30 minutes. Twice we were asked to leave the larger seating area because the employees were going to have breakfast there at 10 am. One employee was okay with us staying there for ~20 minutes longer. The second was not. Both were somewhat rude in my opinion. Why I'm giving 2 stars is this larger area had no signage saying it wasn't open. All of the "available" seating said "reserved". Where are we supposed to sit in the morning on the weekend at a cafe?! Most mornings I'm greeted by Natalia, someone who has been surprisingly cheery and positive throughout these dreary winter months. I arrive at the same time as a few other cars visit the Starbucks across the street. I usually enter before the fresh beans have been added to the hopper and the espresso has been dialed in. Often before the doors are even unlocked; but that doesn't stop her from pulling a sumptuous shot. I'm confident in her abilities to deftly dial in a new bag of beans any day of the week. I walk back to my car shortly after. By the time I've slurped my satisfying shot of 'spress and situated my seat belt, I see the same cars I entered with still in the drive-thru. I was so excited to find this restaurant/cafe. A hidden gem, I thought. In my 4th venture to the cafe portion of this restaurant, I encountered a young lady at the cafe's register. She seemed to lack the face muscles to smile. She was so rude. It felt like taking my order was a chore. I've encountered her before. She definitely leaves a bad taste in your mouth. This alone did not bother me. However, coupled with what happened next, I will never enter this place again! I was so happy to find that there was one table left with 1 chair. Perfect for me! I had my computer and needed to finish up a few things for work. SHITTIEST EXPERIENCE EVER! if I could leave negative stars I would! We were at our table waiting for our waitress when the waiter from another table spilled ketchup all over my shirt, my new expensive WHITE jacket that cost way more than the BILL we got and my pants. I helped the waiter pick up the ketchup container and then told him if he could please cleaned my jacket. He didn't bother to come back and try to clean the ketchup off the floor or try to help me clean it off of me. He then avoided coming near our table. I asked for the manager twice. He took a long time to come and talk to us even though we saw him walking around. Once he approached our table, all the other staff stood behind him staring at us as i was explaining the situation. Then, he follow telling me I was wrong and that the waiter didn't know about the ketchup even THOUGH I HELPED HIM pick up the ketchup container off the floor and told him to help me clean the ketchup off my jacket! The manager did nothing to make the situation better & took the waiter's side. Our waitress barely approached us after the situation & had an attitude towards us. At this point it wasn't about the material stuff but it was more about the way the situation was handled & the attitude we got from the manager and the staff. About how all of them didn't even try to help me clean the ketchup off of me as soon as it happened and told them about it. How he basically told me I was in the wrong & didn't even apologize. Superb coffee and pastries at reasonable prices. This adorable, unassuming coffee shop charms you from the moment you walk in; and there's even a full service restaurant in half of the space. They house make their flavor syrups and the lavender latte is to die for! I also loved the almond croissant I got there.
