I was kind of expecting a lot from a place that has lots of great reviews but was underwhelmed when I tried this place out. They're located near the hotpot restaurant and so there's plenty of 2 hour parking and garage parking. Service is absolutely top notch and for that, I give it a full star otherwise it would've been a 2/5 for me. If you're arriving for brunch, you actually walk to the right where the podium is to get a table. We ordered a couple of things and it wasn't mind blowing or super tasty. The carnitas Benedict lacked flavor and was just ok, like it just felt like everything was just bland. The beignets' dough was fine and billowy but the sauce it came with literally tasted like milk. It wasn't sweet either, just tasted of milk. I personally would not come back but the place itself seemed quite popular. There are much better brunch places in MoCo. read more

We had coffee and pastries this morning. The coffee was awful and pastry had way too much cinnamon to enjoy. The server tried to fix one of our drinks and it came back just as awful. I was looking for a brunch that didn't involve going to the city (DC) but also had bottomless Mimosas options. Barking Mad was one of the places that popped up. To start, we ordered the bottomless classic mimosas. The mix of OJ mad champagne was PERFECT! Can we talk about the size of the mimosas though....huge compared to most places that use flutes. These were in a mason jar size glass. Loved it! Next, we ordered the chicken and waffles (bacon & cheddar), Smoked Salmon, & the Huevos Rancheros. What can I say we were hungry! Lol. Needless to say, we enjoyed everything we ordered. The staff was awesome. The area is great. Inside was nice and chic, modern. Social distancing and mask are being enforced.is practiced. This place is the best bottomless mimosa place in Montgomery County. Bottomless Mimosa or Brunch is only offered Sat/Sun from 11AM-3PM. The bottomless is only priced at $25 (it could have gone up by the time of posting) but it is worth it, they are mixed very very well. The food menu for brunch is also very good as well, a lot of options. I recommend the Chicken and Waffles for individual meal and getting a breakfast pizza to share. The breakfast pizzas are very creative, sausage and egg pizza, chicken and waffles pizza, etc. The beignets here are also top tier and I def recommend getting for a dessert... if you're sober enough to eat it, haha. I haven't been here for anything other than brunch but I'm sure their regular food here is good as well. The customer service here is also great, very friendly people every time I have come here. I had one server named Mary Kate who was highly skilled and very friendly, she knew her stuff and was great at recommending. Overall great experience for the number of times I have visited. Im the queen of brunch so my expectations for weekend brunch is very high! My friend recommended this spot for brunch, today, so I was excited! To start, we ordered the classic mimosas. It was a good blend of champagne and orange juice. Next, we ordered the beignets. They were beautiful to look at. Unfortunately, it was just the taste of power on a pancake. For my brunch, I ordered the two eggs option. I had my eggs scrambled. I opted for chicken tenders instead of bacon and sausage for the protein. Yet, still there was an up charge??? Ok.. The eggs were bland. The breakfast potatoes were ok. The restaurant is in a chic and trendy area of Gaithersburg. There is street parking and very family friendly. The staff was nice. I stopped by this cafe as I was in the area and wanted some coffee and a quick bite to eat. Imagine my surprise when I found this gem. Only the cafe portion of the restaurant was open so I ordered the maple cinnamon coffee (one of their seasonal drinks) and a caprese sandwich. Both were delicious! We have come here more than 3 different times before and asked to sit on the patio, but were told each time (weeks and even months apart) that "Sorry, were not serving on the patio today". Today will be the LAST time we ever try eating at Barking Mad! They are soooo many restaurants in this area with a patio that actually use their patio that we can and will go eat elsewhere! I don't even like pico de Gallo, and had forgotten to ask not to add it; and when it came it was so mixed in, I figured I'd just try it before sending it back, and it was actually so good I ate it i all! I have to agree with so many others that the food is very good. It comes out at the proper temperature and is appealing to the eyes and tummy. My jalapeño cheddar waffle was very good and my chicken was crispy and hot. I took off stars because the service was lack luster and extremely slow. From the wait, even though there were many many many empty tables to the service itself, I would have to hard pressed or have an over abundance of time to return. Perhaps, try takeout? My experience was overshadowed by the amount of time we spent there. I believe it was the amount of tables assigned to our waitress, but there were several times that we didn't see her for 10-15 mins (at any table). She may have had tables inside and out, which I would chalk up to the staffing model. I'm not sure, so I can only assume that it was too much workload for the one person we saw. read more

We were out getting cars serviced and decided to have lunch. The name of the restaurant caught our eyes. (well in fairness it did, then my dining partner saw the Greek place, that isn't open yet so we went back to going to the Barking dog!) 1, Crab dip, a personal favorite was amazing! Love the pretzels. 2. I had the tacos (yum) 3. my dining partner had a turkey and cranberry sandwich (yes, she is one of those people). 4. Drinks were amazing, I had my first Pear Hard Cider (yum) Our server was awesome! (Since her name was Destiney, I suspect it was Destiney for us to get a great server!) The decor was so nice ample amount of seating and if you wanna go for just the cafe it's in the front if you wanna sit down and eat further to the back and if it's nice out you can choose the big amount of seating they have there as well. The food was all delicious, perfectly proportioned and all executed in timely fashion. The French toast also had a bit of a citrus twang to it like maybe an orange zest thing going on, soooo good ! The potatoes were nice and crispy with a little added salt and pepper and sirracha it was chefs kiss. Don't get me wrong the food is delicious. I've been coming to barking mad for a few months now and it's genuinely one of my favorite spots. Often I'm greeted by a nice hostess and I've never had a problem with whoever is assisting my table. However, there's one employee who works on the cafe side that always has the worst and unwelcoming attitude. She responds with a tone of annoyance to customers. I came in today for my birthday with my family and we asked if a hostess could sit us because we always come around 10am and we get a table. she replied and said there's never table service, my family and I were confused about that. she rolled her eyes and stared. we asked for a menu so we could look over new items and have a good time as a family. She pointed at the big menu behind her and didn't say anything, we stated that we just wanted sometime to look over it and she said "we don't have menus" with a nasty attitude. A cafe, restaurant and bar all in one, each area clearly distinct and clearly identified with stellar decor and design. We came here because a friend who is in the coffee roaster business rates Barking Mad as the best coffee in MoCo, serving counter culture premium gourmet coffee and Lionhearted, you can buy these roasts onsite. They even have their own house made syrups. Breakfast items are egg and brioche sandwiches, burritos, artisan toasts, house made granolas and a plethora of yummydesert pastries to choose from. I choose to have the dirty chai latte and loved it, full of smooth tastes and dope presentation, it's a great place to relax and converse or get work done thanks for their free WiFi. I look forward to going back and trying the restaurant at a future date, but Barking Mad is for sure bring something new and hip to the MoCo scene in the beautiful Spectrum complex off of 355, it is worth a visit. Only things I would add to this great spot is a bigger cafe area, only about 5 or 6 tables and have more plug in options for power. I've gone to Barking Mad two times now. The first time was in December 2020, when COVID was still very scary. My friend and I are outdoors, which in December....was not the best experience (to no one's fault). I liked their fig pizza, but wasn't a huge fan of their eggs Benedict. I went back this past summer and just had a chai latte. The inside cafe is cute, but a little dark for a fun coffee-date. They still have tons of outdoor seating available and the latte was solid (just pretty sweet)! read more

After years of wanting to eat here, I finally was able to dine in. I enjoyed my experience at Barking Mad Cafe. I have heard and read positive reviews and finally gave in. I had the chicken and jalapeño cheddar waffles. They were good, not the best but good enough for an impromptu visit. I think the jalapeño cheddar flavor of the waffles made this dish interestingly delicious. For my beverage, I ordered the Very Berry Hibiscus drink which was really good. Service was decent. Although my server didn't give a proper introduction, she was fairly nice, but I think she was overwhelmed from the amount of tables she was serving. I definitely will be returning, as I want to try other dishes on the menu. read more

I've passed by/hung around Barking Mad Cafe so many times, but have actually never stopped in before. After a food coma from hotpot across the street, we decided we needed a coffee in order to safely make the drive home (it was either this or a quick cat nap in the car). Since it was the latter part of the day, we were able to walk up to the counter and order just fine. I ended up going with their Werewolf in London tea instead of a coffee since I wanted to sleep at some point that day haha. The tea was absolutely delicious, with the notes of lavendar apparent on first smell and sip. Let's be real, the tea I make at home never tastes like this. I love the idea of lavendar flowers on top, but in reality, it doesn't do much if it goes into a cup with a lid... you just end up with tea bits on tongue :) Plenty of outdoor seating and what looks like an epic food menu (more than what you expect out of a 'cafe'!) read more

It has been a while since I have stopped by this local coffee house and restaurant. As usual they did not disappoint. I had the classic breakfast sandwich with sausage instead of bacon. The brioche toast was light, buttery and toasty but not greasy. The eggs were fluffy. There was not too much cheese and the sausage was delicious. The sandwich was a good start to the day. I only ate half and shared the other. The staff was wonderful, and I had a special expresso drink, that was delicious. I am looking forward to coming back when I am in the area again. read more

It's my second time coming to this place. I came out last year while I had my car at maintenance and this time too. Lol I wouldn't come all the way to Maryland for brunch otherwise. I think last time I got the avocado toast and found the size to be small for the price. But I am liking their salmon Benedict. I like that the salmon doesn't taste fishy. The potato on the side is ok. Not the best but not the worse. And the drink I got isn't bad either. I should have asked to make it little less sweet. Also, they gave me a large size without asking me if I want a regular or large. Overall, their service is good. Both time I came, I found the place busy. That says something, right? This was my first time eating lunch at Barking Mad Cafe! I've been here before to work on my laptop and enjoy a coffee, but never sat down for a meal. I'm so glad we did! The vibes are great and I appreciate that the cafe area is separated from the dining area. It creates a separate yet cohesive vibe. Our server was amazing, friendly and attentive! I was oddly craving a horchata latte and our server coincidentally brought us samples of the horchata latte to try - it hit the spot! The crab dip and pretzels were my favorite out of the bunch - I would definitely order that again. I would recommend Barking Mad Cafe to my friends, and am excited to come back! read more

Update: My boyfriend and I gave Barking Mad a second try. This time it was 100% better. I tried the steak bowl again, this time it had 2x the meat and everything was spiced nicely. My boyfriend got the shrimp and crab pizza which he enjoyed. We sat at the bar this time instead of on the main floor. The folks working the bar built very good repport, made amazing drinks, and made sure we had everything we needed. 10/10. The folks running the food out had it out very quick (food was still very hot) and they were very friendly. All the staff seemed to have a good rapport with each other, and they worked together very well. My first review was a bit harsh. Gaithersburg doesn't have many places for a good vibe and good food - Barking Mad always has a great balance of good vibes, good drinks, perfect price - what else do you need to be satisfied?!? My only complaint is that it's gotten so amazing that there is always a little wait but they are so accommodating and they have outside seating too. BIG BONUS during COVID... my favorite is dish the Huevos Ranchero *chefs kiss* simple, amazing flavors, without flashy or extra frills. Also love the cinnamon roll pancakes - not too sweet and you can make them sweeter if you desire. Favorite Drink: Lavender Oat Milk Latte - heaven. There is also an adult drink I love - I think it's the Rosie but can't remember at this moment - off memory it has Prosecco and I like that better ! Favorite Bakery Treat: Almond Croissants.
