What can I say Dennis was pretty amazing, even though is a mid weekday afternoon. Dennis was easy to deal and knew quite a lot of brewery side of the business instead of faking it. Hence why the five stars!! Merchandise was on point. The wife and I were on point of deciding what we liked and there wasn't any of discussion which is unusual. Which is is why you are getting a five star review. Plus Dennis was very easy to talk to and we felt in no way of purchasing anything. Thank you Dennis for making this a great experience.

Small, local, and quiet. Delicious beer and even strong beers are light, drinkable, and perfect after a hike. Server is kind and patient.

In my quest to visit every brewery in the state, I have been trying to get here...forever. A combo of weird Anchorage/Juneau flight times, plus restrictive brewery laws (mandated by our liquor-biased state politicians) have made this quite difficult. The location and ambiance of this brewery are incredible. It reminds me of the quaint little downtown breweries (like Tugboat) that you used to find in the nooks and crannies of downtown Portland that are all gone now. To compare the beer here to Tugboat is unfair though, the beer here is much better! Unlike a *certain* SE AK brewery, they allow tastes here! (as all breweries should) I had three different beers, and all were great. I think the alt was my favorite, but that might just be because I was looking for something more crisp. I guess if I could give any constructive criticism it would be that I was there were more crisp and refreshing beers on tap and little less hazies and other beers with big mouthfeel. Would have loved to see their take on a pilsner! Cherry on top for the ambiance is the friendly brew cat that roams the area. If you are in Juneau, this brewery is not one to miss!

The flite we chose was outstanding! Small place, highly recommend the WOKE AF IPA. Citrusy w/o juniper resin, just flat out a delicious taste of sunshine inna cup.

Beer = 10/10 Cat = 10000/10 We came here as a stop on our cruise and almost didn't go in because it looked empty/closed. Don't let this fool you!!! The vibe ended up being amazing, the beer was delicious, and it was the highlight (not even kidding) of our rainy Juneau stop. Thank you to Simcoe's parents for letting me love on her while enjoying my Belgian ale.

The Mcsteamy, a great California Common beer!

Barnaby was one of my favorite breweries on a recent trip we made to Juneau! Situated in downtown and very close to the port this brewery was an easy walk from our hotel. For this brewery I had two of their beers. One was a California Common beer, a very light kind of beer called the Mcsteamy. Refreshing and not too heavy this beer proved itself nicely with a fine flavor to it despite being very light. A well made common beer! After that I went the completely opposite route and got a stout. Bad Johnny was the next beer I had. It was a very enjoyable stout with it's chocolate and coffee features. On our trip to Juneau it was mostly rainy the whole time(still had a blast) so sitting down to a nice, dark beer was so fitting. Barnaby has fun hoodies and t shirts too! I bought one at the brewery. But others I liked were sold out. I went to the brewery's website however and was able to purchase the shirts I wanted however... so I imagine that came from a different inventory. Great brewery and one worth returning to!

So after finding out that the other restaurant was not open at all that day we came back for a second time. Both times staff greeted us and told us to sit where we liked. It was a cool day but wanted to sit outside and watch the people and water. They offer a good selection of beers as well as some cocktails. (Check out the Bloody Mary!) So the first stop we ordered a flight as well as the Blueberry Mojito. The beers were good. The Blueberry Mojito was amazing. Our second stop we ordered the halibut fish and chips and seafood chowder and a beer and another mojito. The fish was cooked perfectly. Not too greasy. The chips were great. The chowder was good. Hot for a cold day and not too thick. Staff were always checking on us and made some great suggestions for the beers and food. We will stop by next time in town. This is one of our favorite places.

Pretty packed with other cruise folks. We just got one order of fish and chips and split it. Menu says 8 ounces of Alaskan halibut in a gluten free batter they make with their lemon lime spruce tip seltzer. Came as two pieces. Batter was crisp and golden brown like it should be. Fish inside was white and flaky. Fries are the hop salt fries. Little cup of tartar and a lemon wedge. The fish was good. I will give them that. But $38 for two pieces of fish and some fries is ridiculously stupid. That is just price gouging for the cruise crowd. Really disappointed we paid that. Service was moderate at best. Nobody was rude. Nobody was all that on it either. And watch out for the birds. They have pigeons walking around on the wood floor inside the building. One was pecking crumbs right by the glass where the kegs are. They take off and flap over the tables too. Feathers and the occasional bird doo doo. There is no way somebody hasnt gotten splattered at some point. Would eat the fish again if it was half the price. Not rushing back at $38.

We got the "First Mate Plate" @ $33.99 (combo of fresh halibut & salmon), and (2) Halibut Tacos @ $26.99 + substituted the rice & beans for a cup of chowder:$4.50. This was so good, we came back the 2nd night and got the same thing! We were a party of 2 - 1st night had reservations and got seated right away; 2nd night walked in and got seated after a 5-minute wait. I think it's the larger parties that have to deal with the long wait or we were just lucky. Call in for reservations regardless. Noisy & busy but good food & good service.

A lot of places have shrunk their calamari serving size down and serve it with an aioli that isn't always great. The basket of onion rings were crisp and hot with the right texture. I know it's frozen but it's the old fashioned onion rings that many places have changed the breading or undercooked or overcooked. Employees are very nice here. Our server was so nice. She checked on us a few times and refilled our drinks. We also had the one pound Alaskan king crab legs. It was just the way I remembered having it when restaurants used to serve Alaskan king crab legs. They're super fat meaty long legs. It was warmed up and served with lemon and butter. It was just enough for two of us. It probably would not have fed my son. He is a big eater and he would have ordered a steak. If I was hungry or had a crab craving, it might not have been enough for just me. We've also been over eating on a cruise ship for 6 days. We shared the apple crisp ala mode for dessert. It was not crisp but it did have some crumbs thrown on top like a cobbler. It was in a warm sauce and topped with ice cream. It's a cute place with a wharf view. The tables are not on top of each other. They gave us plenty of napkins and a bib too. If I lived in the area, I would be back every month for the calamari & onion rings, and yes the crab legs. The Diet Coke was perfect too, just enough syrup and carbonation. I would definitely come back if I was in the area.

The ship was the epitome of modern luxury and the port cities catered to all the tourists needs. But at some point, I needed to get a little down and dirty, to get away from the crowds of visitors. To me, Alaska is still frontier, and I needed to experience just a taste of it. From the recommendation of a grizzled cruise staff, my wife & I found ourselves at the Alaskan Hotel and Bar, enjoying a pint and taking in small piece of history. While a few tourists did wander in, most of the patrons seemed local and knew each other and the staff. We watched from the far end of the bar and soaked in the atmosphere while enjoying our beers. Though there was a single acoustic guitarist playing from the stage, the bar was mostly still and quiet, a welcome respite from the throngs of outsiders on the street, veering in and out of the jewelry stores and tacky souvenir shops. Both of us needed this time to recharge, to enjoy a different side of Alaska than we'd seen, to be around normal people again. Does this bar have all the amenities? Are fancy cocktails the standard fair? Is the furniture new? All those answers are no. But the drinks are strong and the bathrooms are clean. And for a tired tourist, this is the most welcome sight.
