We have been to Barnacle on 3 or 4 occasions during the past 2 or 3 years and last Saturday we looked forward to the delicious lunches we'd had in the past. My friend and I stopped for lunch on a Monday. He had the fish & garlic house fries and I chose the crab cakes. We each had a cup of clam chowder. The food was excellent. We both enjoyed the fresh ingredients, especially the herbs. Joe our server was friendly and efficient. He took the time to give us directions to several hiking trails which we took advantage of. What a pleasant surprise, staying in town over night and found this place via Yelp. I'll be honest when I first pulled up I was like Uh-Oh another lame small town restaurant. Boy was I wrong. When the menu stated fresh/local ingredients, I just presumed another over promised under delivered statement by the owner. Trust me I was dead wrong, farm fresh quality meats and vegetables you could taste the difference. Crab cakes were great, loaded with crab. The burgers and cole slaw were outstanding. Burgers came out medium(thin line of pink) like they should. Which really allowed the flavor of the meat to come out. Pairing the burgers w/the house slaw was an outstanding idea. The slaw and burgers really complimented each other well. Gold Beach you have a great road side restaurant. I hope the locals and drive throughs(like myself) will continue to support it. read more

Stopped by to try a late lunch on a Tuesday. We both chose the fish and chips. I had the Arch Rock Jefferson State Porter. Excellent beer. Service seemed a bit disjointed, or disorganized, but friendly. Service was not excessively slow and would be perfect for a leisurely lunch. Our fish and chips had a perfect beer batter and the fish was perfectly cooked; flaked and still moist. Spot on. The Chips (shoe string fries were a not up to par. They were over cooked and didn't match the expertise of the fish. not earth shattering but a petty disappointment. The "Asian" slaw just didn't hold together, though the idea was good. The atmosphere was nice, the acoustics pleasant. It was on the moderate to high for a lunch menu. If they had brought water with a slice of lemon and a couple of bread sticks when we were seated. I would have not minded the wait and would have kicked up the tip. When I go there again, which I will, I am sure they will have polished their game a bit more, they are a heart beat away from a perfect score for Oregon Coastal cuisine. read more

Just finishing my meal. I ate everything. I don't generally like cole slaw, but the ginger, garlic, rice wine vinegar dressing as well as the quality of the greens themselves made it fabulous. I do like sweet potato fries, these certainly did not disappoint, and the house-made dressing on the side added a nice kick. And the fish was great, as well as the tartar sauce. Super friendly and service was great! I've ordered a lot of fish and chips over the years and theirs is the best. Be sure to ask your waitperson if they have any fresh Lingcod...it only gets better. 3.5 stars. It's a hit or miss depending on who is cooking. In the past you got huge portions for a fair price, now it's more expensive and the sizes are much smaller. If you want fish go for the fish tacos, you get more for the price and there's more flavor. read more

Nice place. Great character. Service needs help. Friday night one server. Was working hard, but missed the basics. Never offered drinks or appetizers. But he tried hard. The food was cooked well, but lacked flavor and the menu is a bit of an odd collection of choices. 3 out of 4 at our tabled ended up ordering fish and chips. Cooked well. But lacked any seasoning at all. Placed fried fish on top of wet Coleslaw. Really. I watched what others order and saw a lot of fish and chips go out. Looked like a safe choice off the menu. The 4th ordered the Brazilian tacos (??) the menu said it was a half pound of shrimp and scallops. Not even close. This place is on the Oregon coast and the number one fish offered is Alaskan cod. We found Barnacle Bistro cruising up the 101 to Portland. Great atmosphere. Great prices. The food and service was beyond amazing! They really went above and beyond for us. My husband, who has celiac disease and is egg-intolerant, soy-intolerant, and dairy-intolerant, was able to easily find something. He ordered a salad with grilled chicken and a side of cauliflower soup (which I ended up stealing because it was so good). I ordered fish & chips with a side of French fries. Also delicious! To make a long-story short, I forgot my purse in the restroom there (ID and all) and the cook was nice enough to find and contact me on Facebook once they found it. Since we were already 4 hours up the coast, the waiter, Sergio, took it to the post office and paid himself to ship it to me. All-in-all, great experience. I visited the Barnacle Bistro in February & was very impressed with their service and food quality. We had Fish & Chips for dinner, then returned the next day to have the same for lunch! Beautifully-prepared, fresh fish with delicious sweet potato fries. Even the cole slaw was unique and mouth-watering, with a light ginger dressing in place of the usual heavy mayo mix. We were the first ones for lunch. It took 50 minutes to get our food. The food was good but very pricey. A cheese burger was $13.00. I had 2 small pieces of fish and chips which I believe was $14. The cole slaw was not eatable, all one could taste was Wasabi. Once was enough for me. read more

My wife and I celebrated our birthday this past Monday at the restaurant and we enjoyed one of the best dinners ever! We both had the Fish and chips, my wife selecting the season fries and me taking the garlic fries. The slaw was excellent with the sesame seed and ginger dressing. The fish was lightly battered and fried in rice oil leaving the fish with absolutely wonderful and greaseless. Both meals were fabulous. The service was excellent and for having an early dinner 3 in the afternoon the place was full but we didn't have long to wait. The place is small, seating around 20 people at one time but the fact that the restaurant was so full and busy tells you this is a popular place to dine. We will be back and definitely recommend this place! Lastly, although this restaurant is on the main road off the coast, when we were seated we actually had an ocean view. This is without a doubt the best place in a very small town. My brother and I stopped in at the suggestion of the girl at the front desk of our hotel and her advice was very much appreciated. The food is quite good and didn't seem that spendy as we were warned. I enjoyed a spicy french dip sandwich and shared some of my brothers enormous portion of fish and chips. I guarantee you will not leave hungry. The thing we liked most was the charm of the place and the waiter, Curt, was astonishing. This guy must have esp. He anticipated our every request, usually before we even asked. The kitchen is open and we were a bit concerned when we saw the cook who looked like a cross between Albert Einstein and a skinny Sam Elliot. Our fears were put to rest when Curt advised us he was one of the best in the business. He was right. The food and presentation were very good. We returned two more times during our trip and really didn't want to go anywhere else. Good micros and wines and an eclectic menu. Good job guys! We will be back in the spring! read more
