Right of the 101. A quirky local run spot with a fun menu and draft beers. Crab cakes are made with bay shrimp and crab (says it on menu) and they taste a bit like shrimp. At $13 not a bargain. The soup the day I was there was gumbo which was pretty good. I ordered it with a salad which was fresh. Coming out of COVID-19 is tough. They got crushed during lunch and closed for a spell to restock. It worked out fine for me since I had a late lunch. Parking is behind the building. Bathroom is super clean. read more

We had lunch here, and everything was wonderful. We were immediately and warmly greeted, and offered a table on the patio. Service was excellent, as was the food. We ordered the chicken bruschetta sandwich, fish and chips, a burger, sweet potato fries, garlic fries,and steak tacos. My son and his fianceé are both neurodivergent, and the server was very nice and patient about answering their many questions about the food. We would absolutely eat here again, and recommend it to others. The ambience was cheery and friendly. The inside and porch areas were cozy without feeling crowded. read more

This is such a cute little family run business and the food is delicious! The place is small, but cozy and clean so many homemade delicious seafood goodies. I had the albacore melt sandwich on sourdough bread that was delicious. Barnacle Bistro offers online ordering with drive thru pick up. I got the Brazilian shrimp & scallop tacos. Huge portion and very fresh and delicious. I also got the Shrimp Crab and artichoke dip. It exceeded my expectations. Lots of nummy grilled focaccia bread. Again a huge portion. I can definitely recommend their food. I got take out since I was staying at an ocean front condo. read more

We love to get to the coast to recharge. We picked Gold Beach this time and ! First thing we do after checking into the hotel is yelp best fish and chips in town. Barnacle was right up top for good reason. The fish was perfect; super light batter, not greasy at all! The fish was firm and fresh, and they must make their own tarter sauce, it's fabulous and not sweet!! The garlic fries protected us from vampires all night! Delish! Lastly, coke slaw... I've never reviewed anyone's because it's just blah, but then I tasted Barnacles with sesame oil and white vinegar and wowza, it was a perfect accompaniment to the fish and chips. Great experience, super friendly people with good food well prepared. We'll be back! No pictures because we ate too fast! read more

This place has the best fish 'n chips on the Oregon Coast. The fish is very lightly battered and doesn't smell or taste fishy like some other places. The fish was fresh-caught lingcod. I selected the garlic parmesan fries which were very garlicky and good. This is a small local family-owned restaurant and they take pride in their customer service and food quality. That said, they are having difficulty finding help like every other restaurant during the pandemic. If you are in a big hurry this is not your place. The server is doing the best they can under the circumstances. I will visit this restaurant next time I'm in Gold Beach for sure! read more

Look at these tacos!!! Brazilian seafood tacos! There's two in there and they're massive! Just loaded with shrimp and scallops swimming in a flavor bomb of coconut, lime and some peanut sauce. My husband had the Wasabi Fish Tacos. The pieces of fish were huge and the wasabi cream sauce was super flavorful with that yummy kick from the wasabi. Not really sure how to rate our experience as we had both extremes. We ordered fish-n-chips, a Rockfish sandwich and the clam chowder. The fish was inedible, as it was so tough that I sent it back. The waitress was extremely nice and replaced it with a different dish as I could not even bring myself to try a replacement fish. She brought a tuna melt instead, that was TO DIE FOR!! I wish I had taken a picture. It's presentation was as fabulous as it tasted. And she refused take any money for the fish or tuna melt. The Rockfish made my husbands stomach queasy. The coleslaw was very fresh but had way too much lemon that the two of us who had it did not eat more than the first bite. The clam chowder and bread was fantastic. So I guess it really depends on what you order. I'm not sure if we would go back. We like consistency. I'll give them this though, they know their breading and breads, and their customer service is top notch. read more

The menu looks great but so far...flies are everywhere, water dripping up top in the back onto our table and service is slow. Im hoping the food wont disappoint. The food looked good but it was a C-. The food was bland. We ordered fish and chips for the kids, steamed clams and rockfish (too dry and hard) with chimichurri and cheese, side of clam chowder (clumpy and luke warm). I love this little place, their menu, OR beer selection, the service and how quick the food is ready. On 1 trip in July I was solo with the dogs, ordered for outside seating and the food was out in 5 min from me walking away from the counter with a cold IPA. I asked the waitress how they fixed it that fast and she told me that the kitchen crew eavesdrops on orders being made and are already preparing the food before the order pops up in the kitchen. These skeleton crew, small restaurants need our support! I don't go to or through Gold Beach without stopping at Barnacle Bistro and I've introduced several food lovers to it. Everything I've had has been good to great. One day I got lucky and the soup of the day was Beer Cheese Soup... I paired it with the OR harvested shrimp/crab cakes and a salad for a great meal. read more

I went two days in a row while in Gold Beach. It was pleasant inside with a few other customers. Service was quick and friendly. Good was good. First day I had the wasabi fish tacos - two large tacos. I brought one home and ate it later that evening. Second day I had the crab cakes with a side of the ginger slaw. Delicious! Busy restaurant with probably the best food in Gold Beach OR. Tasty clam chowder and you can actually see and taste the clams. Crab cakes are delicious and not made with Mayo. Burgers are huge with a few unique ones to choose from, and delicious. Love the pickles on the plate too. Wish the fries were included with the burger as $5-6 extra for fries is a bit much, although you do get a large amnt of the tasty fries. Pulled pork sandwich with chimchurri on brioche bun was very dry and all bun. Didn't taste or find any crème fraiche in the sandwich. Wouldn't order that again. Beet salad is good although expensive. Wished they had some pasta dishes on the menu - like linguine with clams, perhaps some shrimp dishes. Grilled Shrimp/fish tacos, Shrimp and Chips. Perhaps a daily special? While staying at Gold Beach, My wife and I went to Barnacle Bistro for dinner. It was our 10th year wedding anniversary.The server wanted to seat us at a two top table along side a window where the sun was beating down on the table. We asked to be seated else where because of the sun beating down on the table. The server protested stating he wanted to keep the other tables open for the dinner rush. It was 3:30 in the afternoon. My wife was insistant so we were seated at a table away from the sun. The server took our order and brought us our drinks...so far so good. We were plenty hungry as all we ate was a small breakfast this morning. My wife ordered the roasted beet salad and the steamer clams and I order a cup of clam chowder, crab cakes and fish & chips. The clam chowder arrived first. The server brought two spoons so we could share. The chowder was made with potato and celery. Not one clam!. My wife and I took our spoons and spooned thru the cup to see who could find a clam first. Neither one of us were successful. Next the roasted beet salad. Why they called this a roasted beet salad I will never know, what I would estimate as a 1/4 of an sliced unroasted beet (more of a garnish) on top of an onion heavy pile of mixed green is not a beet salad. At $18 ? Come on man! It gets better... next the crab cakes. By no means house made, two thin dollar pancake size cakes with no garnish . These cakes were burnt on the outside and mealey on the inside. These premade frozen cakes were burnt on the flat top not cooked in the fryer. At $15...WTF!! Wait there's more... The steamer clams were in a broth the was water and way to garlicly. We still have the fish & chips. 3 small fish nuggets not filets served with a cole slaw that was the driest I have ever seen. I chose to bring my family here for dinner due to the good reviews, however, our experience tonight wasn't great. We needed a table for 5 and were told it would be a 30 minute wait. We decided to eat outside at a picnic table so our order was to go. Some things to note for your decision. The dining area only has 7 tables, 3 of those only seat 2 and one only seats 6. The front hostess is also the only waitress and taking to go orders so it is a mad house and really affects those waiting to be helped and those served. The food is decent but expensive for what it is. The fries are not worth $6.00 and my teenage boys didn't even eat half of them. The burgers are just okay and the fish and shrimp tacos, while ample, really need better flavoring. I would recommend skipping this one and trying something else in town especially if you are a group more than two. read more
