We stopped by Barnacle Bistro, an intimate eatery on the main drag, after reading the Yelp reviews and I'm glad we did! We ordered the fish and chips, garlic and herb fries, and wasabi fish tacos and loved it all. We had plenty of food and the service was excellent so we will be back. read more

Went to Gold Beach for the first time for the July 4th week. First off it's a small, charming coastal town that has been untouched by corporate America. We got here about 15 mins before they were opened, but the waitress that was there let us sat inside and even let the bf ordered a beer. The place is super small, but has a big character. Since we were the first there our food came super fast. We ordered the clam chowder and the Brazilian seafood tacos. The chowder was different for sure, they added herbs and rosemary which was strong and came through; therefore, masking the clam and chowder taste. It was different. I loved that they grilled the tortillas, gave it a nice charred taste. I think for the price they could have been more generous with the filling. There were other items on the menu that I would have loved to tried. Didn't have time to go back for more. Definitely work a visit. read more

My husband enjoyed his clam chowder and it had a bacon flavor and he enjoyed it. Fish and chips were average. My cousin had the candied Jalapeno burger and garlic. He loved the burger and fries. A little too much garlic but the burger was wonderful. I had the shrimp and bay scallops salad instead of a taco. I don't know about a ok. I'd say just ok. It is cute. Small. Clean. I thought this place was a little expensive for what we got and our server while competent seemed mostly checked out. Maybe she was tired. Princess, the hungry one in our family, ordered fish and chips off the adult menu. She wanted more fish than the kid's portion. It probably was a tad bigger. She didn't like the slaw. We tasted it. Bland. Fries were good. Fish was chewy according to her. This was her third round of fish and chips in as many days. Maybe comparatively it wasn't as tender. J's in Lincoln City is hard to beat. Our $5 side salads were bagged greens on a plate. They don't have cilantro lime dressing any more ( hubby thinks they should mark it out on the menu). I think there were tomatoes and onions. Not exciting. We weren't hungry so this wasn't a biggie. The 3 teeny tiny crab cakes for $11 did me in. To be fair the server warned us they were appetizer sized-- thin and the size of a dollar coin. Also pretty tasteless. I didn't expect Maryland crabcakes like my Aunt Audrey used to make for us or anything like the ones at Local Ocean in Newport... but I didn't expect them to be bested by the ones I ate at Dory Cove in Lincoln City earlier in the week... where I had two good sized cakes, 2 eggs, hashbrowns and toast for $10.95. Vegan/vegetarian options, gluten-free too! The veggie burger was so good! Black bean and rice patty, grilled to the point that it actually held together - and spicy. It stood on its own, but when I added the perfect pesto and the candied jalapenos... OMG. Get real. I want those candied jalaps on everything I eat from now on! I got the burger on gluten-free bread and subbed a salad with cilantro-lime dressing. The dressing tasted like sweet relish to me, but it wasn't bad. The garlic fries are so garlicky - I won't have to worry about vampires for weeks! We came it right after a rush, and the only server was totally frazzled. It was pretty off-putting and took a moment to tune out, which kinda jammed the vibe at first. But she was still kind, and she was clearly doing her best. When our food arrived we had to ask for a few forgotten items, but the payoff was totally worth any hassle. The food was BOMB! This place is awful. First of all there was many tables available for seating but they still had us wait for ten minutes before being seated. We let that go, but when we sat outside the server took a long time to take our order and when she did it took almost an hour to get our order of fish and chips and a "ROASTED" beet salad. Well the salad was literally not roasted beets as it states in the name, the beets were PICKLED. The salad should be called a "PICKLED beet salad" not a "ROASTED beet Salad" We asked to send the salad back but she said no. It was a really terrible experience all the way around. We would have gladly paid for our beers and fish and chips but it was an overall unpleasant experience. read more

Horrible! Terrible , rude service and the food was awful and expensive. I had the fish and chips. Lightly battered it WAS NOT! Somehow they managed to make the fish popcorn dry and the batter soggy greasy at the same time. I mean a puddle of grease under this tiny pieces of fish surrounded by thick gooey batter. Disgusting!! The so called " cole slaw " was actually just raw , shredded cabbage obviously from a bag with no dressing of any kind. Yes that's correct, it was just raw plain cabbage. Shoe string fries were ice cold. Friends had burgers and the buns were so stale they crumbled when bitten. Probably the worst food we have ever eaten in the coast, anywhere. Do yourself a favor and drive down the street to the convenience store and get some chicken tenders. Not even joking. read more

Delightful and friendly little cafe. Bouillabaisse special was delicious and featured a very generous portion of fresh crab. My tacos with shrimp and scallops were also a generous portion and very tasty. Next time I'll try the fish and chips. Table next to us we're having that and it looked fantastic, really crispy and golden, didn't look greasy at all. I'll be back for sure the next time I'm in Gold Beach. read more
