Where should I start? Maybe, right with the food. My wife, myself and a friend where in town for a mini-vacation and we decided to try this place out. I went two days in a row while in Gold Beach. It was pleasant inside with a few other customers. Service was quick and friendly. Good was good. First day I had the wasabi fish tacos - two large tacos. I brought one home and ate it later that evening. Second day I had the crab cakes with a side of the ginger slaw. Delicious! Waited for 5 minutes while being ignored until my friend of a lighter color entered and was immediately helped. That's when we were told in a very unwelcoming tone that it would be at least 35 minutes with no internet in wanting to know if we would even be willing to wait. I had the fish and chips and my wife had the fish tacos. She said that the tacos were the best she ever had. My fish and chips were good also. Not overly coated with batter and not too greasy. Although they had an outdoor patio dogs were not allowed. There were two picnic tables in the parking lot over looking the County Jail. The food was too good to be annoyed by the ambiance. Busy restaurant with probably the best food in Gold Beach OR. Tasty clam chowder and you can actually see and taste the clams. Crab cakes are delicious and not made with Mayo. Burgers are huge with a few unique ones to choose from, and delicious. Love the pickles on the plate too. Wish the fries were included with the burger as $5-6 extra for fries is a bit much, although you do get a large amnt of the tasty fries. Pulled pork sandwich with chimchurri on brioche bun was very dry and all bun. Didn't taste or find any crème fraiche in the sandwich. Wouldn't order that again. Beet salad is good although expensive. Wished they had some pasta dishes on the menu - like linguine with clams, perhaps some shrimp dishes. Grilled Shrimp/fish tacos, Shrimp and Chips. Perhaps a daily special? Glad we have Barnacle Bistro in Gold Beach as good food choices are hard to find here. read more

The food was delicious; several of us opted for the fish and chips, which were excellent. Local Beer on tap from Arch Tock brewing, fresh fish, well prepared. No wonder it was full at lunchtime. Our server took our order in advance of us being seated, brought us beers, in order to make things more efficient. The next day my wife and I returned to have the curry mussels. Fish tacos were fantastic! I hesitated to order them because they're fried but the batter was light, fish was crispy, and it wasn't greasy at all. The tacos are huge! One was plenty for dinner. Stopped in on a trip to the coast, not expecting clam chowder. The steamed mussels were excellent, and the server was very friendly!

Had spent the day hiking along the coast and usually eat in Brookings. However I decided to give Gold Beach a try and found the Barnacle Bistro. While the staff is a bit challenged with all the new COVID guidelines meaning you may have to wait a bit longer they still do a great job and put out some great food. I chose to bring my family here for dinner due to the good reviews, however, our experience tonight wasn't great. We needed a table for 5 and were told it would be a 30 minute wait. We decided to eat outside at a picnic table so our order was to go. Some things to note for your decision. The dining area only has 7 tables, 3 of those only seat 2 and one only seats 6. The front hostess is also the only waitress and taking to go orders so it is a mad house and really affects those waiting to be helped and those served. The food is decent but expensive for what it is. The fries are not worth $6.00 and my teenage boys didn't even eat half of them. The burgers are just okay and the fish and shrimp tacos, while ample, really need better flavoring. I would recommend skipping this one and trying something else in town especially if you are a group more than two. read more

We came in at 2:30pm and waited over 5 minutes to be seated. Then after 20 minutes we walked down the street to Sunset Family Pizza.

We stopped by Barnacle Bistro, an intimate eatery on the main drag, after reading the Yelp reviews and I'm glad we did! We ordered the fish and chips, garlic and herb fries, and wasabi fish tacos and loved it all. We had plenty of food and the service was excellent so we will be back. read more

While staying at Gold Beach, My wife and I went to Barnacle Bistro for dinner. It was our 10th year wedding anniversary.The server wanted to seat us at a two top table along side a window where the sun was beating down on the table. We asked to be seated else where because of the sun beating down on the table. The server protested stating he wanted to keep the other tables open for the dinner rush. It was 3:30 in the afternoon. My wife was insistant so we were seated at a table away from the sun. The server took our order and brought us our drinks...so far so good. We were plenty hungry as all we ate was a small breakfast this morning. My wife ordered the roasted beet salad and the steamer clams and I order a cup of clam chowder, crab cakes and fish & chips. The clam chowder arrived first. The server brought two spoons so we could share. The chowder was made with potato and celery. Not one clam!. My wife and I took our spoons and spooned thru the cup to see who could find a clam first. Neither one of us were successful. Next the roasted beet salad. Why they called this a roasted beet salad I will never know, what I would estimate as a 1/4 of an sliced unroasted beet (more of a garnish) on top of an onion heavy pile of mixed green is not a beet salad. At $18 ? Come on man! It gets better... next the crab cakes. By no means house made, two thin dollar pancake size cakes with no garnish . These cakes were burnt on the outside and mealey on the inside. These premade frozen cakes were burnt on the flat top not cooked in the fryer. At $15...WTF!! Wait there's more... The steamer clams were in a broth the was water and way to garlicly. We still have the fish & chips. 3 small fish nuggets not filets served with a cole slaw that was the driest I have ever seen. Went to Gold Beach for the first time for the July 4th week. First off it's a small, charming coastal town that has been untouched by corporate America. We got here about 15 mins before they were opened, but the waitress that was there let us sat inside and even let the bf ordered a beer. The place is super small, but has a big character. Since we were the first there our food came super fast. We ordered the clam chowder and the Brazilian seafood tacos. The chowder was different for sure, they added herbs and rosemary which was strong and came through; therefore, masking the clam and chowder taste. It was different. I loved that they grilled the tortillas, gave it a nice charred taste. I think for the price they could have been more generous with the filling. There were other items on the menu that I would have loved to tried. Didn't have time to go back for more. Definitely work a visit. read more

This place is tiny! And so worth it!! We were on the road but looking for something fresh. I got a chicken sandwich that had pesto, capers, and olives...it was delicious. The chowder, burgers, and pulled pork sandwiches all got a thumbs up too. We left full but not weighed down with greasy road food. Patio was fully fenced and sunny. Service was friendly. Maybe she was tired. Princess, the hungry one in our family, ordered fish and chips off the adult menu. She wanted more fish than the kid's portion. It probably was a tad bigger. She didn't like the slaw. We tasted it. Bland. Fries were good. Fish was chewy according to her. This was her third round of fish and chips in as many days. Maybe comparatively it wasn't as tender. J's in Lincoln City is hard to beat. Our $5 side salads were bagged greens on a plate. They don't have cilantro lime dressing any more ( hubby thinks they should mark it out on the menu). I think there were tomatoes and onions. Not exciting. We weren't hungry so this wasn't a biggie. The 3 teeny tiny crab cakes for $11 did me in. To be fair the server warned us they were appetizer sized-- thin and the size of a dollar coin. Also pretty tasteless. I didn't expect Maryland crabcakes like my Aunt Audrey used to make for us or anything like the ones at Local Ocean in Newport... but I didn't expect them to be bested by the ones I ate at Dory Cove in Lincoln City earlier in the week... where I had two good sized cakes, 2 eggs, hashbrowns and toast for $10.95. Quaint little place to stop by for some local and fresh food. The sweet potato fries are absolutely incredible, the burger was also delicious. It is small, so just a heads up you may have to wait a sec for seating but it worth the wait!! read more
