Ordered takeout tonight. We got a sirloin cooked medium. With a Caesar salad. A kids cheese burger and a blue cheese mushroom burger. The burgers were ok. Overcooked but fine. My steak which was supposed to be medium was over well. It was a brick and over peppered. It was also covered in mushrooms which was not supposed to come with it. Oh well I'll eat the Caesar salad. This was our alternate choice for dinner on a Sunday night since our first choice, The Olde Log Inn, had a locked door at 5:30PM, in spite of lit lights hanging over their patio, an "Open" flag waving at their entrance, and a posted closing time of 8PM. You win some you lose some! We've driven by The Barnsider Smokehouse many times over the years aware that it had no relationship to The Barnsider restaurant in Colonie, NY. That was reason enough to try it out. Parking is in the rear at a level much lower than the street level main entrance. I did not notice where there might be designated handicapped parking. We climbed a long flight of stairs to access the entrance. Inside is very rustic, board and beam, barnlike. We were greeted by Cayla who took us to our table with menus and said she would be our server also. In addition to their lengthy regular menu of BBQ preparations, there was also a Specials menu and a separate beverage menu of beers, wines, and cocktails. Cayla promptly returned with complimentary cornbread that was fresh, warm, light, and moist while she took our drink order for a diet Coke ($4) and a draft Northway Oat-Bituary Stout ($8). My wife had already planned on having a Reuben, a specialty at our original choice of restaurant, so it was not surprising that she opted to have the Reuben ($17.95) here with a choice of one side. I was intrigued by one of the Special Menu offerings, Barnsider BBQ Platter ($31.95), because it included something that I'd never heard of or had before - turkey burnt ends. The platter also included 1/3 rack of St Louis ribs, pulled pork, and a choice of two sides. My wife said her Reuben was a little on the dry side, not gooey enough, and the side of baked beans with pork had flavor but was pretty average. Overall, I would have enjoyed a more smokey flavoring to the ribs, pulled pork, and burnt ends. The ribs were tender enough, the pulled pork was tender, and the cubed thigh pieces of turkey were darkly colored enough to appear burnt, but all these meats seemed to rely upon the BBQ sauce for their flavor. I think I enjoyed the baked beans with pork a little more than my wife did, and I definitely thought my side of macaroni and cheese was better than average. Service was excellent and I'd definitely keep an eye out for that Oat-Bituary Stout again. read more

This was the coziest restaurant I've ever been to. Everything was woody and rustic style. Just beware the table edges are also woody so they can snag your clothing on the side of table as well as under. Their delmonico cowboy steak was AMAZING. Soooo flavorful to perfection. The first time it was cooked I asked for medium and it actually was well done, too tough, almost like it has been recooked or not fresh. They were kind enough to recook a fresh steak and then it was absolutely amazing. Highly recommend. The combo plate was sadly not the best. The ribs were alright, good, but not as good as I expected but the sliced brisket ($6 add on) was sadly a disappointment. Two sides per dish. We were also able to sub a side for sautee mushroom which was yummy but also overly salty. The baked potato side was delicious though. Their cornbread wasn't the best for it as it comes cold and tasted like nyc public school breakfast food. Really appreciated the hot water service they had though. And again the ambiance was amazing! The waitstaff is friendly, attentive and helpful, the food is just awesome! Really good barbecue and when you walk in you feel like you're in a place that should serve barbecue because it's very clean but charmingly rustic. Keep an eye out for the bear lounging in the tree and the bald eagle nesting nearby. Very cool place will definitely be back. read more

Burnside's Smoke House in Lake George is a must if you're in the area! You seriously can't visit without stopping by. The cornbread was perfectly fluffy and soft--such a good start. My hubby had the pulled pork sandwich and loved it. They're super generous with the meat, and the mac and cheese on the side was the perfect combo. I went for the three-meat sampler (ribs, brisket, and BBQ chicken) with rice and baked beans on the side, plus an order of sweet potato fries--sweet, crispy, and just how I like it! It was a busy Monday night in the summer, but we got a table for four, upstairs, pretty easily. Our server, from Croatia, was polite and attentive. Drinks came out fast and the bone in wings with jalapeno sauce on the side rocked. We were craving barbecue after a day at the lake and decided to give this place another try after our last bad experience and our favorite old-school barbecue joint closed down. Unfortunately, the food was so disappointing that the drive home turned into a symphony of burps, stomach gurgles and farts powerful enough to alter local weather patterns. We spent the evening nauseated, testing the structural integrity of the couch cushions. As we questioned every life decision that led us to order dinner here yet again. The brisket was dry. The sides were forgettable, and the only thing that had any real smoke flavor was the air inside our vehicle on the way home On the bright side, the food brought us closer mainly because we were afraid to be alone with our digestive systems. I been passing this place for years and always see it packed. I been wanting to stop by before the off season so here we are. I been mastering the art of smoking food and bbq'n for many years. I'm no completion type of guy but I can hold my own. This place has great atmosphere inside and out. Service was good. Not to overbearing and around when needed. Food on the other hand is where the downfall comes. I ordered sliced brisket which is an $4 up charge compared to pulled brisket, pulled chicken, and Mac and cheese with baked beans. The brisket was drenched in bottled bbq sauce and was completely dried out, a total failure. The pulled chicken was mediocre and drenched in sauce. The Mac and cheese lacked any flavor whatsoever so ever. The baked beans was straight out of a can and started to thicken immediately before even finishing it. All that for just $27. The corn bread was straight jiffy pop box made. My wife's plate was similar and both of us left plenty of left overs. Which isn't like us. It wasn't because it was too much to eat but more because it was uneatable. I would never return here again and don't understand all the positive comments. If this place is so good then I should open my own food truck and I'd be a millionaire. I really hate leaving reviews like this but Yelp is all about being honest so that's my opinion about this place. We have been visiting Lake George for the last 20 years or so, beginning back in the first Americade Days. We were totally disappointed this week, sad to say. My buddies chicken breast was dry as a bone. I was looking forward to my order of Spare Ribs, and they too were horrendously dry. No falling off the bone at the Barnsider anymore. I don't know what's happening, but we thought back and remembered we ran into exactly the same thing last year, but thought we would give it another chance. Went in there this past week, we eat at a lot of restaurants everywhere. Plain and simple-Service was excellent and friendly. Food made us sick. Both of us had to hit the toilet and sit within a half hour of eating. This is not a barbeque place---need to underscore that---had barbeque from DC south, Texas, even in and around New England (low and slow, smoked in a smoker, you smell it when you enter, you see it on everyone's place----this is not that---it's fake barbeque, stuff tourists and the unseasoned will talk about but it' s fast restaurant food--chain restaurant style fare. No greens, no char on the meat, no flame cooked chicken, no smokey flavor ......just put that out of your mind. This is not that--except for the sign--it's not barbeque , it's not smoked either. Wife and I had entirely different meals. She had a chicken sandwich---I had ribs, potato salad and coleslaw. I feel sad for all the ratings that say it's delicious excellent food....before even getting sick it's basically TGIF/Ruby Tuesdays/Ground Round/ Applebees food. The ribs were not smoked. The smoker outside is for decor ( if you're facing the building it's on the left side near the parking lot doubled over). The ribs were restaurant ribs (pre fabricated heat and serve ribs). Nothing fancy. Potato salad tasted fine, cole slaw tasted fine (nothing to write home about) BUT either of these dishes improperly stored will make someone sick. Same with meat that's not handled right. My ribs were not piping hot. Wife's sandwich tasted ok to her but she never gets sick fast like that . I do--when I've eaten something off. So ambiance--nice enough-they made a rustic scene. Service people were kind, polite. Food---beyond getting sick--nothing special. Getting sick--there's our rating. First, I want to go on record to say I absolutely hate leaving less-than positive, especially in today's climate where small businesses are struggling. I am not being intentionally critical with this review, but these are simply my observations as they relate to a pricey meal and a form of cooking that I am VERY familiar with. I love good bbq, and will travel far and wide for it. I have also been smoking bbq for a very long time, which has allowed me to establish a barometer for meat that is cooked well. It also allows me to pick up on where shortcuts are taken. Naturally, while away in Lake George, this place was on our list to try out. First and foremost, it definitely catches your eye. It's got a very cool, rustic, look unlike most other restaurants. Upon arrival, although crowded, we were seated promptly. I found it odd that the outdoor smokers didn't appear to be running. Waitress was helpful and kind. Unfortunately, we were seated by the waitress station and I had staff standing on top of me during the entire meal. Started with drinks. I had the bourbon sweet tea, which was poorly-mixed. I love a good bourbon cocktail, but this thing was all bourbon. Nothing to denote that this was a tea-based cocktail seemed to be involved. This one was a waste. My wife enjoyed her cocktail. I ordered the sampler, featuring ribs, sliced brisket (which costs a premium to order sliced), sausage, beans, mac and cheese, and cornbread. I went with this because it reflects the sampler I am used to when cooking for guests at my own home, and it is the hallmark of a true bbq sampler. I figured you can't go wrong with a main staple of bbq. My first observation: the amount of sauce. There was an incredible amount of sauciness, and the sauce was not of great quality. Sweet, sugary, and seemed commercial. The cornbread was moist and baked well. This was great. Mac and cheese lacked any notable flavor. Ribs were overdone. The outside was crunchy and the meat inside/close to the bone was tough and had a crazy amount of pull. I like a bit of pull to my ribs, but not this much. There was a faint smoke ring here. Brisket was very tender and had a smoke ring, but tasted like dirty smoke to me based on my experience. It had no bark and almost appeared to have been prepared as a roast in an oven. Sausage was okay. Beans were watery/liquidy. Not much flavor to be had here. I found myself wondering if they struggle with volume/production and take shortcuts to manage the demand. Our table began to accumulate empty glasses, dirty napkins, and empty plates. No one ever came to remove them, despite being seated next to all of the waitresses. They watched as we tried to make room on the table and as I began to stack/clear dishes. Sadly, we were disappointed in this $100 meal. To a discerning fan/cook of bbq, this one misses the mark. read more

They tasted decent, but we were informed the baby back ribs weren't fat but they ended up being extra fatty. The corn and beans tasted good. July 2025 we always come here when we stay at Lake George.. We did reservations for 7 pm on a Sunday. Host was training new people. We got a table and a waitress she was smiling and friendly. We got our drink then appetizer then food . Not once did she come remove dirt plates or napkins. She came to the table and then walked away we thought she was my husband empty cup and to go get a refill . No she never came back until after the food was served then we asked. She followed up one time after again never took empty plates off the table. Food was good corn bread wasn't as fresh just seemed warm. But all other food was hot and fresh corn ! I'm giving it a 5 star rating the food is still excellent just need some more training tips for the servers etc read more

I honestly didn't expect much. Not sure why...maybe because I think of it as a tourist destination? Well, we went at an off hour, had excellent service and good food. The bbq was really, really good! We each had combination platters so we could try different things. Both the St. Louis and baby back ribs were excellent: saucy, moist and smoked just right. Loved the sweet potato fries and the chicken sausage was good, too. We did notice that there were some issues with tables getting seated and not having anyone pay attention to them for long periods of time. Also, even though we were happy with our service overall, a table came in quite a while after us and received their meals way before us. Thought we made a mistake coming here for dinner during Americade... but this team was so on top of things! Sat and served within minutes. Food ordered and to our table is such short order. In terms of decor and ambiance this place was top notch, 5 stars for that. We came in the winter, but everything also pointed to a stellar outdoor patio during the warmer months. The menu was pretty standard in terms of bbq places. I got a brisket sandwich on a pretzel roll with mac and cheese. Sadly about 15 minutes after we ordered our waitress came back and said they didn't have any more pretzel rolls. I was disappointed, however I opted for sourdough bread which ended up very good. I did enjoy the mac and cheese enough but it was very greasy. I was sad and somewhat surprised not to see any cornbread. My husband ordered a special that included ribs, sausage and brisket. The sausage was spicy, with a nice kick. We also shared a apple dessert. It ended up costing $3 or $4 more than what the menu said. We didn't let anyone know, so maybe they would have done something to fix it, we will never know. It was very cold inside the restaurant. Weirdly the bathroom was a sauna, I went in and felt overheated immediately. The worst part was it almost made it worse at our seats, as I was sweating after only a few minutes in the bathroom, and then freezing in my seat. The temperature flux definitely didn't help the experience. Overall the staff was friendly, the food was good. I'd be up for trying them again, hopefully in the summer out on the patio. read more

Barnsider didn't really agree with my stomach. After a long drive to Lake George from Jersey, we did some yelping and found this bbq spot. The outside and interior decor is super charming. Really rustic and makes you feel like you're in the middle of the woods. Service was also great, I wanna make a point to say that. They mentioned that they were understaffed but I couldn't tell, we were always checked on and never kept waiting. Super friendly staff. The food was a different story. First, the complimentary cornbread was ridiculously delicious. Probably the best I've ever tasted. My boyfriend got ribs and brisket and he liked his plate. He got Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes as sides. The mashed potatoes were just ok but the Mac and cheese was almost inedible. Super greasy, after just sitting on the plate the grease was literally covering the whole plate. I'd pass on that next time. My pulled pork sandwich was just alright. Not much flavor on the meat but the bread was actually great. It was jalepeno cheddar and super fresh. The onion rings were tasty too. But right after eating it I felt sick, didn't fall right in my stomach. I don't know if I'd give this place another shot. It sounds like if you stick with basic meats you'll be fine. read more

They (restaurant asks for 24 hr notice ) WereWonderful ( we live in Florida) to work with . KATHY was exceptional, & on track with what we were requesting !! We also had to change the time from 5:30 to 6:30-7:00pm. KATHY took it all in stride and was very helpful, courteous & accommodating! It's unfortunately a manager's poor decision to close before 8 o'clock because "business was too slow" on a Thursday night. I'm sure I don't have to tell how disappointed we were, after my husband worked all day long & IT WAS HIS BIRTHDAY, and was very excited to go have some barbecue at this place only to get there - and the hosted don't fucking bitch stating that we closed early because "things were slow." That should never be a reason especially after advertising to stay open till 9 o'clock and then closing an hour early because "things are slow." It was unfortunate, but another table was coming in behind us only to find out the same disappointment. Come on- Barnsider- if you're going to do this to your customers (I don't care if it's one person, two of us or a 4 top ), we drive all this way and you can't think of a better way ? One possible suggestion is you could've confronted us, told us the bad news and handed out a gift certificate ($20 would have been suffice) and say "please come back" because really I don't care how good your food is - it really makes me NOT want to come back to your establishment.
