I stopped by for a beer and a few bites and was very pleased. We came here after driving from NYC to the Lake George area and decided to have a few beers before heading the rest of the way to our rental. Although we stopped here because it was one of the few places open during this whole COVID-19 pandemic thing, we were very pleasantly surprised. Our server Rachel (I think) was a great waitress and quite entertaining. I cannot say that we had any problem with the service. Since we were making dinner at our rental, we did not try too many of the food items on the menu. My table thought both the brisket potato skins and pork nachos were pretty awesome. In my opinion, anything with bbq sauce is pretty awesome. I'll definitely revisit Barnsider Restaurant when I'm back in the Lake George area. read more

All the server interactions we saw were like this, this staff does their job well in a friendly manner. The food was amazing. They were the best wings I have ever had, anywhere. I have had smoked then deep fried wings at other places but never as good as here.The perfect amount of seasoning, and a very good amount of meat. Not the scrawny things other places might give you. We've been here about 5 times over the past 8 years. We keep going back and HOPING it will be good. It's not. It never is. We're not going back. There's a reason the LOCALS DO NOT GO HERE. It's bad food. Meat is old and poorly done. Vegetables are mush. Cornbread crumbles apart. The Rachel (Turkey Reuben) was served with buttered soft bread not grilled or even toasted. Just gross. The deep fried green beans are ok. The bar is fully stocked and the cocktails are fine. I've left a photo here of the overcooked ribs and hard brisket. This place must stay open by tricking tourists. They have fire outside and naive first-time customers (that don't know better) sit near the road... so the place looks fun. Save yourself a day of being grumpy and just don't go here. If you go here you won't be happy. My hope is that the owners review this and decide they want to figure out a way to make the food better. read more

Stopped for lunch after a tough morning hike and were excited to sit on the porch of Barnsider Barbeque Restaurant and indulge in some bbq. It was a little worrisome that the smokers/grills outside the restaurant were not in service, but we decided to stay and shared the Pitmaster (a slice of smoked brisket, 1/4 rack of St. Louis Ribs, and bbq pulled pork) with two sides (onion rings and baked beans), which was priced for two, but sized for 1-1.5. Thankfully the onion rings were great and the (definitely canned) baked beans were tasty, as the smoked brisket was too tough to eat and the bbq pulled pork and 1/4 rack of St. Louis Ribs were what I might expect of ready-made supermarket meat. That said, service was good and fellow diners were generally masking up when not eating/drinking. read more

I ordered the 3 meats and had the loaded potato and potato salad. The meats were the sliced brisket, babyback ribs, and chicken sausage. Everything was very good. The meats were not covered with an abundance of BBQ sauce. They were very flavorful and done right. The sausage was perfect with the proper amount of spices and heat to it. The potato salad was very good and was not a strong vinegar and the extra celery in it was great. The loaded potato had fresh bacon in it and boy it was good. Overall I recommend Barnsider to all that visit Lake George. And for a 2 hour drive from northern CT not a bad trip for good BBQ. Food is average, but where they really standout is the absolutely worst service I have ever experienced! Went to dinner here Monday, we finished our dinner, waited 15 mins for our waitress to come, perhaps clear the table, ask if we want anything, nothing. I got up and asked one of the hostesses if they could get our waitress to come to the table. Another 10 mins go by, she comes to our table and I ask her for the check, she disappears for 15mins. She finally comes back with the bill, drops it off, came back in 2 mins, we were getting the money together to pay the bill, so we weren't ready, this time she disappears for 20 mins. At this point, we got up and went to the hostess stand to get our bill, finally got it. Been on Yelp for over 10 years, checked in at 4054 restaurants, wrote 426 reviews, as I stated above worse service I've ever experienced! I understand as a restaurant today, it's very difficult to find anybody, and this place obviously hired anybody. When I saw the aggregate rating for Barnsider I was honestly a bit shocked. As I read through the critical reviews the common theme was definitely inconsistent service. These complaints are not unfounded; I have also had a few visits where the waitstaff were a bit off their game. Regardless of the service, Barnsider serves up unequivocally the best barbecue in the Capitol Region(-ish). Their beef brisket in particular is some of the best I have ever had. I'd say all of the meats are very good at worst...you really can't make a wrong choice! Portions are very generous and I almost always get two meals (or more) from each visit. I was a bit disappointed to see that both of the best sides, sweet potato fries and green been fries, are now $2 upcharges. Get the green bean fries as an appetizer instead, they're awesome! The nachos are my other favorite app. Potato salad is just average, all the other sides are solid. Just to reiterate - get the brisket, it's incredible!! read more

My boyfriend and I had lunch here today. We arrived when they opened at noon, but the kitchen wasn't quite ready yet. We wete okay with that and enjoyed some warm corn bread while we waited. We ordered the nachos as an app and a half rack of St Louis ribs and a pulled pork sandwich. Everything was delicious! The ribs had a lovely smoked BBQ flavor and the pulled pork was plentiful and tasty. I chose a pretzel roll as the bun for my sandwich, and that was also very good. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive to our needs. I've seen some bad reviews of this place lately, but I really recommend giving them a chance. My husband, Mark, and I are making a concerted effort to support our local restaurants during the coronavirus crisis. It was a beautiful day so we decided to order take-out from a restaurant in Lake George since it's not too far from where we live. The Barnsider Barbeque Restaurant, which is located at the south end of Lake George Village, caught my attention with a Facebook ad that popped up a couple of days ago. Their prices were very reasonable, so we thought we'd give it a try. We ordered two of the advertised specials online (prepaid) with a 4:30 p.m. pick-up: Mountaineer Platter for 2 ($25.00) and a 16-ounce T-bone Steak Dinner ($19.95). When we arrived at the designated time, they were not ready for us. In fact, when my husband went inside the restaurant to pick up our order, he was under the impression that they didn't know we were coming as he heard someone yell that they needed a rare steak (the other food was precooked, I am sure). Fortunately, I had given Mark a copy of the prepaid order to take inside the restaurant with him; he had to wait about 15 minutes. For this reason, I have dropped them a half a star (I would have given them 3-1/2 stars if the system allowed it). We were very pleased with the food. The T-bone was perfectly rare, just the way I asked for it and how we like it. The other meat included baby back ribs, smoked brisket (a bit vinegary for my taste), and sausage - all as one could hope delicious smoked meat to be. The sides - baked beans, potato salad, and a green salad with enough dressing to last a lifetime (fortunately, it was packed separately) - were also good. There was enough food leftover for another full meal for both of us. Although we did not dine at the restaurant, Mark commented on the atmosphere as being very Adirondack - as it should be. The one negative is that the road noise is loud, quite distracting, and that's during this coronavirus epidemic, and out of season, when traffic on Route 9 is at a low point. It should be noted that there is plenty of off-street parking behind the restaurant in their own lot. We are glad we gave the Barnsider a try, and will keep this restaurant in mind when we are hankering for barbeque. Again, 3-1/2 stars in my book. read more

We found ourselves in Lake George around lunch time after spending the morning at the beach with the black lab and chose this BBQ restaurant based on the lovely patio area visible from the road. The entire area is beautifully landscaped with baskets of hanging colorful flowers and planters in every corner. There is seating on the front deck, as well as inside and a couple of tables near the rear entrance. There wasn't an inch of outdoor space that wasn't immaculately manicured. The food was fine but quite expensive for BBQ. They offered the usual sides and I had no serious complaints but no accolades either. I was disappointed in the brisket, but I have to admit that I have very high standards when it comes to my smoked meat. Very few brick and mortar establishments have managed to impress me. That honor has generally gone to the smoker by the side of the road joints that just scream for you to pull over and fork over whatever cash you have on you to get a taste of the heavenly smoke that perfumes the air and saturates the inside of you car. See, very high standards....the smoke just didn't permeate the meats like I need to reach BBQ nirvana. I just can't imagine spending that kind of cash on a weak smoke again. The service was really attentive and they were very welcoming to the lab who was his usual charming self. So sorry, I really wanted to love this huge, popular, and very busy place but the food and the service both failed us. We were there for two hours, most of that waiting for service. Waiter was attentive and responsive but they seemed understaffed. The food took a looong time and some of it was at room temperature. Perhaps it was waiting a long time to be delivered to us? The brisket was great. I ordered it fatty and it was. Tender, flavorful, smoky, with a good bark (you know, the blackened crust from a good BBQ rub). That was the big winner. The ribs were pretty good. The pulled pork was ok but overshredded (no chunks of meat) and mixed in with a lot of sauce. Everything was sauced, to varying degree. Where I come from, we sauce lightly or not at all and serve sauce on the side -- but I understand that's a style choice. But the pulled pork was overly sauced by any stretch. We wanted the chili, which we saw go by and everyone says is fabulous. But they were out. :( The corn bread was great -- northern-style (sweet), a think chunk of corny goodness. But the rest of the sides were poor. Mac and cheese came room temp. The beans were canned and also served at room temp. The mashed potatoes tasted like they were from dehydrated potatoes. I would call the food decent -- unless you have had great BBQ. This was average, run of the mill BBQ. That said, if you come here, ask for the brisket, fatty; cornbread for sure; maybe ribs; and take your chance on the sides. They have a lot of sides and maybe your choices will be luckier than ours. read more

It was slightly sweet, definitely not dry Growing up on North Carolina style barbecue I didn't LOVE the barbecue but it was still pretty good! I also wish they had the option of a pulled pork bbq platter that didn't involve ribs, that was just the pulled pork with two sides or something. Everyone is very friendly and accommodating but the food was less than desirable. 5 people in my group with 5 different things and we all were extremely dissatisfied .
