    Empanadas

The best empanadas I've ever had -- and I don't say that lightly. I've eaten my way through plenty of empanadas in my life, but these are on another level. The dough is perfectly golden, with just the right amount of crisp on the outside and a soft, pillowy pull as you bite through. It's clear someone here actually cares about the craft. The filling is where things get serious. Generous, well-seasoned, and balanced -- every bite has a little of everything. No dry pockets, no bland centers, no corners cut. The flavors are layered in a way that feels homemade in the best possible sense, like a recipe that was earned over time, not just thrown together. The portions are honest, the value is real, and the quality is consistent. I brought friends on my second visit and watched all of them go quiet after the first bite -- which, if you know my friends, is saying something. If you're even remotely curious, just order them. You'll be back.

Man what can I say about Barrio chino this place is the best. The mix of Asian and the jerk chicken is so freaking good. I found this place on a random night and I've been going ever since, you can tell the food is made with love. Highly recommended!

If you're looking for something unique in the Bay Area food scene, Tito's Barrio Chino inside Adeline Food Hall is definitely worth checking out. The concept alone caught my attention -- a creative blend of Chinese and Latin flavors -- but the execution is what really made the experience memorable. One of the standout dishes we tried was the Jerk Chicken Fried Rice, and it was seriously one of the most interesting fried rice dishes I've had. The rice was perfectly cooked with great texture, packed with flavor, and the jerk seasoning added just the right amount of spice and smokiness. It wasn't overpowering at all -- just a really balanced flavor that kept you going back for another bite. Even the cabbage mixed in had a little kick that complemented the dish really well. What really made the visit special though was Tito himself. He took the time to talk with us about the inspiration behind his food and how he blends flavors from his background and his travels. You can tell he genuinely cares about honoring the cultures behind the dishes while still putting his own creative twist on them. My husband loved the jerk fried rice so much he almost finished the whole container himself -- and that says a lot because we ordered it to share! If you're in Berkeley at Adeline Food Hall and want something different from the usual takeout, Tito's Barrio Chino is a great spot to try. Flavorful food, thoughtful dishes, and a chef who truly cares about his craft. Definitely coming back to try more from the menu.

Straight to the point. A must try at Barrio Chino. Egg Fried Rice is one of my go to dishes.

    chopped cheese empanadas with maduros

I don't usually leave reviews but this place absolutely deserves it. I tried the chopped cheese empanadas with maduros and WOW... easily one of the best things I've eaten in a long time. The empanadas were perfectly crispy on the outside and packed with juicy, flavorful chopped cheese on the inside, seasoned just right and not greasy at all. Every bite was fireeee. And the maduros? Sweet, soft, and caramelized to perfection. They balanced the savory empanadas so well it was honestly the perfect combo. On top of that, the service was amazing. The staff was super friendly, attentive, and made sure everything came out fresh and quickly. They really went out of their way to make the experience even better. You can tell everything was made fresh and with care. Great flavor, great portions, and just overall a 10/10 experience. I'll definitely be coming back and bringing people with me! Highly recommend if you're looking for something unique and seriously delicious.

Where do I begin! Barrio Chino gave me a fusion cuisine experience that truly brought joy to my belly. The food is a delightful blend of Nicaraguan flavors with a wonderful touch of Asian cuisine, creating something unique and absolutely delicious. On top of that, everything is very reasonably priced and the customer service is extremely warm and welcoming. Definitely a must-try!

I usually come with my family, and we order damn near everything on the menu. The aunties serving dishes actually laugh when they see how much food they're dropping off at the table. My favorites are the chili oil wontons, hot and dry noodles, bok choy, and General Tso's chicken. The wontons have just the right amount of heat, the noodles are thicccc and chewy, and every dish somehow manages to disappear before we can even think about leftovers. Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything you order. One of my favorite parts is watching them make the noodles by hand. Half the restaurant is dedicated to the noodle-making station, while the other half is for seating. It's not a huge dining room, but they do offer the Yelp Waitlist, so you can check the live wait before heading over. The vibe is very, get your food and head out so they can keep up with table space for incoming guests. Always a hit, never a miss.

When we first walked in, no other diners were there which made me a little suspicious. We were promptly seated and offered hot tea though so we were locked in. I initially ordered to seafood claypot but was told it takes 45 minutes...so pivoted to chicken wonton soup (no noodles). My partner got kung pao chicken. while we waited for our food, a handful of people came in to pick up their to go orders, which made me feel better. Another party eventually dined in as well. Fyi the interior isn't much to write home about but comfortable. Then the food came. My soup was freaking delicious! Loads of chicken meat (just chopped up with the bones so be careful for shards), plenty of dumplings, and the broth was sooo good! I couldn't finish and took some left overs home; the next day, my soup coagulated (full of collagen)!! Partner enjoyed their kung Pao chicken but said they'd order something else next time. Best part - our meals + tax came out to less than $40! Gawd I love Chinatown!

With that said although Yu Yu is located in a pretty sketch area of Oakland/Berkeley, I would still recommend eating here just for its authenticity. They seem to have a parking lot in the back but we manage to find street parking in the front. You're better off looking for parking in the back than the front due to limited spaces. As for the food it was delicious. For the jajangmyeon you are given the noodles separately from the sauce; this allows you to pour in as much or as little as you want. I personally felt their flavors were mild enough that I poured in the whole thing. As for the tang su yook, it comes with a sweet and sour sauce that's bomb dot com. Even as stuffed as I was with the jajangmyeon, I managed to still find it in myself to finish the last bits of the tang su yook. Highly recommend. The restaurant itself seems to be newly renovated; don't let the rough exterior fool you. The inside was nice and clean but they only have room for four large tables that can fit a parties of 6, and the rest range from parties of 2-4. Last but not least service, they seem to run lean and understaffed but the gentlemen working did his best. Just be mindful if you come at a busy time you may have to wait. Overall looking forward to coming back here!
