This burger spot is located right next to the street. I visited for lunch on a short work trip into Redding with my coworker. The visit was pre covid. We were greeted and seated by the staff at the counter. We glanced over the ultra simple menu. We ordered separately. I ordered a simple cheese burger with fries and a soda. Our orders didn't take long. Burger was hot from the grill. Ultra simple cheese burger with warm buns crisp lettuce tomato onion and slice of cheese. Burger itself was cooked on point. Seasoned French fries were hot from the deep fryer. Bill and meal was settled at a reasonable time. Good fast simple burger. Bad nothing. Overall simple and filling. No complaints. Not sure why all the high reviews. customer service and order were correct and came out fast, they were not very busy at around 1 p.m. Got the Giant burger that was good, but not great. Like another review posted, their burgers could use some more lettuce. Or make it an add-on option. Guess going to In and Out, I get spoiled with free extra produce and protein style. The Bad The fries different story, they were a little overcooked way over-salted, and hard, couldn't eat them. Threw most of them out. Soda, The last time I had a soda this bad wish is not often was in Patterson, CA about 25 years ago. Fantastic burger and great fries. You have 3 options for burger size, order it cooked the way you want, pick your cheese (or not), and all the standard accoutrements. service was super friendly. Only 3 tables inside and more outside but majority pre-ordered and got to-go bags. This is a very convenient stop on your way north/south on 5 and avoid all those fast food places. One note for the big city people, it's more prevalent than not to be charged the 3% credit card fee in more rural areas. This applies to almost all types of services. It's not really fair to fault the quality of the food because of this. read more

Always the best place for a bite. We stop by on our way to Oregon....and then stop by on our way back home. Definitely worth the stop even if you're not too hungry - go for the fries or shake. If you are hungry, the burger is juicy and perfect just the way you like it and made to order. read more

I grew up hearing that jingle on the TV when their commercials ran locally. Just moved back to the area after about 20 years and have stopped by here a couple tines for a quick bite during the move. Happy to say it's just like I remember. Big burgers, all the fixn's, fry sauce. Memories flooding in of stopping here before going to the drags behind the airport. They did have a spell where things weren't so great before I left that almost 20 years ago but things appear to be back on track. Definitely one of my favorites. read more

Stopped here in May, '21 on the way back to the Bay Area. My wife & I loved it. So when a buddy and I were returning to the Bay Area after a houseboat trip at Shasta, I tried to find it again. Couldn't remember the name, just approximately how to get there. I took the wrong fwy exit, and after a couple of wrong turns, my buddy suggested, "We ought to ask a mail-man." I said, "great, but where would we find one of those?" He replied, "right over there." So we asked the mail-man and he said, "you're talking about Bartel's." He told us it was about 8 miles away (in the direction from which we had come). Questioning whether or not we should back-track that far out of our way, we asked, "is it worth it?" Coming home to Oregon from California took 10 hours and since there was no In N Out we decided to stop by this burger place. The employees were very nice and very fast. Food came out really good but sadly this place is not in Portland. The burgers were only $4-5 dollars and the fries came in bulk unlike McDonald's. They were crispy rather than mushy and the burgers were so filling! 10/10 would go again.:) read more

Total old-fashioned kind of place, nothing fancy just good solid food and service. Burgers don't look that great when you unwrap them, but they are very tasty and satisfying. Wow!!! BEST burger I have ever had!!! I found this place by mistake. I was staying in Redding, while boating in Shasta Lake. Anyone that knows me, knows that I am a HUGE fan of mom n pop burger joints, so this place was a must try for me. To my surprise, it was the tastiest burger I have ever had. They ask you how you want your meet prepared, which was awesome. I ordered my medium and it was cooked to perfection. Their fries are very similar to McDonalds. Bartels burgers have a few restaurants in town but the one on Lake Blvd is the first place I ever went to and I have been there quite a few times. I have seen the other locations but I haven't stopped there - this location is my favorite place to go to and the burgers are pretty darn good - I recommend it! read more

The burger was fixed upside down, the pickles and mustard were on the bottom bun, not on the top bun. And they didn't have mustard packets, only a ramekin full of mustard, which seemed kind of wasteful for a kids burger. read more
