A hidden gem for sure! I ordered delivery Japanese food at random. This place was really good!! Order: two combo bento boxes. Temp & beef teriyaki, tempura & tonkatsu, Calif roll. For me it always starts with the rice..and theirs was perfect. It was just the right moisture (where it sticks together well) the beef teriyaki was so tender , melt in your mouth tender. Top quality beef! I rarely find that when ordering beef teriyaki, often times tough and chewy to some degree. Tempura was generous and cooked to perfection.. no hard carrots here! Batter nice and light . Tonkatsu was also good . Nice crisp coating. . Oh a great salad, dressing was delicious and not watered down by wet lettuce . Casual Japanese place with good service. They have a good variety of food - sushi, bento boxes, appetizers and even udon AND ramen (so rare to find both options!). The tempura mix was really good and the soft shell crab. Lion king roll was solid too on par with most sushi places that offer it. Great options for the bento boxes. Sadly I have to say that the udon wasn't great ... it was pretty flavorless (creamy broth, not clear) and only came with pickled vegetables, fish cakes and an egg. I've seen and passed by Bashamichi so many times, but never gave it the time of day. We finally decided to swing by because we weren't sure what's going on with La Quinta and the whole housing controversy. Who knows if the restaurant will still be around once things settle. Parking is free and plentiful as you're allowed to park in the hotel. We were quickly seated and placed our order, but the food itself took FOREVER to come. The sushi chefs were flirting with three seemingly tipsy girls at the bar (they all spoke Mandarin and I could understand everything). I think they were pretty distracted, because our first roll didn't come until 30 minutes after we ordered. Good thing the entertainment at the bar was free. I would definitely skip the agedashi tofu ($6) because it is such a sad rendition of the classic. There's no chewy mochi-texture. It's just thin fried pieces of tofu topped with bonito flakes and with a side of sauce. The rolls themselves are decent. They're on the smaller side, but priced cheaply. I liked the shiso and the delicate lemon slice on the 49er roll ($14.50). The handrolls also weren't too shabby, but I didn't like how the seaweed wasn't crisp so it was a little messy to eat. We also had to constantly ask for wasabi and ginger refills because they only gave us a single serving to share amongst three people. They eventually asked us how much we wanted, but at that point, we already had our fill. We're content that we tried it once, but probably won't be stopping by again. read more

12/7/22 Zach and I were craving sushi for lunch. We decided to check out Bashamichi Sushi that's on El Camino. Street parking was plentiful on El Camino and the restaurant was empty since we got there around 2:15PM. We were seated immediately and menus were already on the table. As we looked over the menu, our waiter served us hot tea. Here's what we got to share: 1. Dynamite roll 2. Lion King roll 3. Bento box: spicy tuna roll, chicken teriyaki, beef short rib (+ miso soup) Given that we were the only patrons in the restaurant, everything flew out of the kitchen within 10 minutes. I will say that their rolls are on the smaller side, but they tasted good. The meats in the bento box were also delicious and not dry. The chicken and beef were tender and full of flavor. I also really appreciated that our waiter anticipated that we needed napkins before I asked him since we were using our hands to get all the meat off the short ribs. Fantastic location next to the LaQuinta hotels for those visiting. Great sushi but a friend noted that their ramen was subpar. Definitely come for the sushi. After all, sushi is in the restaurant name so that's a good sign. Cute leaf-shaped wasabi, so presentation makes the experience feel genuine, authentic, and cared for. California Roll - just like any other California roll really. A filler item that's cheap and can act somewhat like an appetizer sushi. Spicy Tuna Roll - just like the California roll, the Spicy Tuna Roll steps up as a more flavorful appetizer to ease into the whole fish thing. Another filler that's consistent. 49er Roll - extra creamy roll with fatty salmon on top and fatty tuna mixed with avocado inside. Combine this with a thin lemon slice on top of the salmon and you have a unique flavor. Creamy but somewhat sour and tart, really kicks your taste buds in a good way. Bashamichi Roll - something I always do is order the restaurant's signature roll which is oftentimes the restaurant name. Somewhat like a dragon roll in terms of fatty-creaminess but instead of tempura like a dragon roll, it's fatty tuna inside which adds to the fattiness. Lastly, tempura flakes on top add a crispy, crunchy texture to round out the roll. Dragon Roll - dragon rolls are fairly common and this isn't much different than those elsewhere. I do think it's a bit creamier here because the avocado was cut thicker, which I loved. Double Hamachi Roll - well if you like yellowtail this is a no brainer. It's double yellowtail on the inside and out. Even if you're just a tuna lover, I'd recommend because this roll is literally yellowtail tuna with a strong taste and fairly fatty. read more

I'm definitely a bit shook that a Japanese restaurant attached to a La Quinta like Bashamichi is this good. Your usual gut reaction is that this is probably not gonna be the greatest option, but honestly the sushi here is incredibly fresh and everything is pretty good quality. The staff are all Cantonese speakers so yes they are a Chinese owned business, but they are all super friendly/welcoming and do everything the right way. The inside has it's own character and is comfortable to dine in. They also give hot tea for free rather than charging $2+ plus for a cup of tea that uses cheap tea bags so that is a big win in my book. In my most recent experience I ordered 3 Items Bento Box with California Roll, Beef Teriyaki, & Salmon Teriyaki ($21.90) plus the Bashamichi Sushi Combo ($26). I was very impressed by how fresh each piece of fish was and it was a pleasant surprise. Their sashimi and nigiri are definitely worth getting. For me personally I had the bento and I do wish I asked for the beef teriyaki to be cooked medium rare since they cook it medium by default, but it still had good flavor plus a nice char to it. Salmon was also pretty standard and I was just happy it wasn't overcooked. California rolls are pretty standard, but tasty. I feel like where they shine most is their sushi in general. Parking wise the staff said that it was okay to park in the hotel parking garage, but street parking is still an option although more difficult to find plus you have to parallel park which is my worst enemy. There is a high chance that I would come back here because you can tell this is a restaurant that cares about quality and good service. read more

Park in the hotel garage and make your way to the small, yet cozy spot. Our server was quick, friendly and attentive. We were a party of 3 and ordered the Party Combo A (1 CA roll, 1 Spicy tuna roll, 1 Sake Maki, 1 Tekka Maki, 1 Avocado Maki, 12 pcs nigiri, 16 pcs sashimi), and miso soups. It was such a generous portion that we struggled to finish it - spoiler alert, we did and it was delicious! The food was so fresh and of excellent quality. I would definitely go back or opt for an order online for delivery in the future and would try some of their signature rolls. It won't break your wallet, which is an added bonus. This restaurant is located on El Camino Real and under a hotel. I came with my boyfriend on a Friday for dinner, and we were able to find parking on the street. This restaurant also doesn't seem to generate a lot of customer traffic, so I was hesitant about the freshness of their fish. However, the quality and freshness of everything seemed fine to me. The items that we got were all pretty decent - good flavoring and presentation. Service was pretty good. We ordered 2 sakes and they opened them up for us with some twisty method.
