Basilur has a lot of things going for it that makes me really want to give it a higher review score although I think there's a few issues I'd love to see resolved on a future visit before I can fully recommend it. Pros: +Love the look and atmosphere. Has a nice, modern vibe and plenty of seating both for single and multiple people around. Service itself was all good. +The souffle pancakes were pretty on point for us (we got the original for about $11 - takes about 20 minutes). It comes with three pancakes and whip cream. The pancakes were fluffy and warm and pretty dense. The whip cream was a nice complement. Cons: -Amenities like napkins were empty and the table we weren't at wasn't wiped down. -We got the smoked salmon eggs benedict. The presentation itself was nice and loved the inclusion of avocado. The flavor itself wasn't too bad but the whole dish was cold including the egg. It made the flavor profile of the whole dish a bit jarring. The total for this was about $14. -Our drinks (an iced Spanish latte with almond milk and another coffee latte) were super milk-y with very little coffee. Finally got a chance to visit this place! It's been on my list for awhile so I suggest that me and a friend meet there. It's on the first floor of The Source OC pretty easy to spot. There's parking in the structure so you shouldn't have a problem there. My experience was decent. Good service, friendly staff, and yummy food. The only part that dampened my experience here was their wi-fi was down. Now I wouldn't really care, but their charging machine was down because the wi-fi was. Instead of telling me that up front, they waited until I got ordering and then told me. After a few failed tries, we worked out a resolution (of which I suggested) and I proceed with by order and day. My visit to Basilur was nothing short of being perfect. Located in the newly built open shopping mall called, "the Source", Busilur offers great tasting tea/coffee drinks along with delicious pastries.... I ordered the cheesecake with the tea service....Everything tasted great and the pastries were fresh and delicious.... Although the bakery was super busy, the service was super friendly. Eventhough there are not many stores open at the source yet, Basilur is a great reason to still visit it there. Loved the accompanying salad as well. The dressing was good! 3) Milk Tea Glacee (3/5) it was ok. More for a picture than anything else. lol. I'm still on the hunt for a place that replicates the fluffy souffle pancakes in Japan. During my search, I found this place on Yelp and made the journey from LA to try it out. It's located inside of a newly built shopping mall and has the look of an old English cafe. There's a decent amount of seating indoors to enjoy your food/drinks. They offer a variety of drinks and pastries, as well as eggs benedict in addition to the souffle pancakes. We ordered the Fruit Special pancakes for $15 - definitely a pretty high price point compared to the other souffle pancake spot I've tried in the OC as well as Japan. Our friend got the Matcha pancakes. It takes about 20 minutes for the pancakes to be prepared. When we received our pancakes, my immediate reaction was that they definitely didn't have the same look as the pictures they advertise. The shape is more bumpy and irregular compared to the perfectly round pancakes they display in photos. This wasn't a deal breaker or anything, but definitely not up to Japan's standards aesthetically. The taste itself is really eggy and lacks the subtle sweetness that they have in Japan. The texture is also more dense and wet than what I've previously tried. Overall, it was a pretty mediocre product for the price and I'd rather get regular pancakes from a basic brunch spot. Our friend's matcha pancakes had no distinct flavor to them, but the matcha cream that it came with was pretty tasty. Overall, this place was kind of a disappointment for me as the way that the pictures looked made me hope that this place had brought Japan's fluffy pancakes to California. Alas, I'm still on the look. I think the pancakes themselves are pretty mediocre, but I'm also comparing them to the high standards set by Japan. The price is definitely high and personally I wouldn't drive all the way out here just for this place. When it finally came out, to my surprise it was a suuuper big portion for $15 bucks. The 3 souffle pancakes were light, eggy and came with a creamy green tea whip drizzled on the pancakes and a scoop of red bean. It's good enough to share for two people. My friend also ordered the tea set which came with your choice of hot or cold brewed tea and a cute little 3 tier tea tray with assorted goodies like a quiche, cucumber and dill sandwich, fruits, a macaron and cupcake. The price, of course, matches this ambiance. $15 for pancakes with fruit. I'm glad to pay it because the pancakes are delicious. It is at least a 20 minute wait for them though as they're made to order. The pancakes themselves - super delicious. You don't even need a knife. Fluffy, moist, their pillowy texture gives way easily at the gentle prod of a fork. And they are delicious. The food is presented well, just like the establishment. I did wish that they would just put out some creamer or half-and-half for their coffee. We would be back more often but it's kind of an expensive breakfast for us. The interior has a classy English teahouse feel to it and, in fact, they serve one of the world's best teas: Basilur from Sri Lanka. The tea queen of Sri Lanka is a personal friend of mine (no joke) so I can attest that you'll enjoy the tea here. Why I ordered a latte instead of tea I can't explain. It was average at best. I also ordered the soufflé pancakes with fruit (thanks for the recommendation Grace C.). They take about 20 minutes to make so they hand you a pager so you know when they're ready. As so many others exalt - it's worth the wait. The exterior is slightly pancakey while the inside is lightly eggy in taste and the consistency is both soft & wiggly (ironically just like my belly). The fruit, syrup and cream all brighten it up with some added sweetness and complimentary flavor. The three pancakes definitely filled me up. Service was friendly and helpful. It was the royal blue exterior with gold trims all around that caught my eye and little did I know that Basilur is a famous tea brand? Wow! Though during my visit I did not try any of their tea options, I did dive straight in for their infamous soufflé pancakes paired with a large vanilla latte. The coffee was decent but wasn't spectacular compared to other coffee shops so I recommend to pass really on the coffee and stick with their specialty item - soufflé! There's three choices of soufflé pancakes - regular/plain, matcha and fruit. I ordered their matcha one because I love anything with matcha. Their matcha comes with a scoop of matcha cream, red bean and a side of syrup. These pancakes were literally mind blowing. It was decadently fluffy, super light and airy. This isn't the typical American-style pancake that you're use to as this is more on the lighter bland side but the texture and the bouncy sponge-like taste of it will leave you on Cloud 9. The best way to describe how similar it tasted would be Uncle Tetsu's cheesecake without the cheese tasting and more fluff. Be patient, this pancake takes at least 20 minutes to prepare. Unless you're out on a bougie day with a couple of people, I don't really see the value of going to this place based on the cost and presentation of the food (in comparison to how nice the eatery is). However, I don't think 20 minutes warrants the pancakes being haphazardly tossed onto the plate with the matcha cream smeared all over like residual fecal matter in a Walmart public restroom. But their pancakes have been going downhill recently, getting less fluffy and a bit stingier with their portions, and my last order was a bit of a shock. Decided to pick up brunch from here last weekend with a couple of my girlfriends and have a socially distant picnic in the park. We also got strawberry Japanese pancakes since none of us had ever had them before.
