Stumbled looking for a healthy brunch and it was busier than expected! Salmon hash was amazing. I did ask for more dill sauce and hot sauce and it made so much better! The turmeric golden chai was also amazing I enjoyed every item I bought here. The staff were all friendly but they were so busy. It did take a while for our food to come out. We sat in the patio and it was super nice out. Will be back to try other dishes !

Healthy | friendly staff | Allergy friendly So happy to have found this place! I feel so seen at this allergy friendly spot: gluten free, dairy free, refined sugar free, and seed oil free! That is rare! Come here to eat healthy real food. It's a cute little cafe where you order first and then sit down. Bus your table after. The staff is friendly and their menu is excellent! I had a hard time picking what to eat, but I ended up going with the salmon salad. The person at the front said their popular items are the waffles and borscht. Both sound delicious, so maybe I'll try it next time. Their menu is unique and not the usual selection on a lunch menu, like a deli sandwich. Every plate is presented beautifully too. They put my large salmon salad on a bed of lettuce and topped it with beets, pomegranate, a radish, and what looked like flower petals/buds. I saved 1/4 of my lunch to-go. My husband had their salmon hash with potatoes, and let me tell you, that egg on top looked delicious. I saw some other folks ordering that, so it seems like a popular item on the menu too. We also ordered the matcha latte with coconut milk and the Bastion pink latte. Bastion pink latte is tasty and healthy (beets, cherry, maple syrup, ginger, and substituted with coconut milk). No caffeine though! I loved my matcha latte because it wasn't too bitter and not too sweet (I had honey for sweetener), but it was creamy and delicious with the coconut milk. The salmon is excellent, not too smokey.

What a cool place. I met a friend here for a late lunch on a weekday and I was surprised how busy it was. We ordered at the counter and the service was helpful and friendly. The acorn waffles were delicious and the chicken salad wasn't bad. I was happy they had sparkling wine on offer as well as some intriguing hot beverages. Also, it is gluten free! I'll be able to return with friends who need that option.

Came to Bastion on the Friday after Thanksgiving with my sister. My sister has known she's had celiac since she was little - and I naturally steer towards a gluten free diet. I got the: * Energizing Matcha Latte w/ coconut milk and honey - amazing. Good quality matcha - no upset tummy * Salmon Salad / half pint: deliciously shredded Salmon, a light and fueling oil dressing blend, pumpkin seeds, celery - very good, very fueling! I didn't have my sisters food / she did love the fried chicken just didn't vibe with the flavor profiles of the waffle and the side addition of bell peppers

I have visited Bastion several times now and am always greatly impressed. This has become my favorite go-to spot for a great-tasting, healthy meal or an afternoon pick-me-up. The space here is relatively small inside, but they have plenty of seating outdoors, with a covered deck that's perfect for enjoying on a sunny day. The staff here are always very welcoming and friendly. The menu here is plant-forward and 100% Free from Gluten, Dairy, Seed Oils, Refined Sugars. They also use organic, seasonally based ingredients, making dishes that are always fresh and so delicious, not to mention nourishing. This is one of the few places that I can genuinely say that I never feel guilty after indulging in one of their pastries because everything that is made here is made with healthy and clean ingredients that leave your body feeling good and nourished. I'm so thankful to have places like Bastion that have such great-tasting, healthy food. I cannot recommend coming here enough!

Amazing! The food is so fresh, the ingredients are high quality, the GF bread is incredible and they were even sweet enough to bring out some salmon for our dog. It's a very small establishment so you may be waiting awhile for your food or to find a place to sit, but it is 100% worth the wait. Highly recommend!

Favorite brunch in Portland! Love that you don't have to worry about many allergens (all gluten, dairy, and seed oil free!) and that the meals are balanced to provide plenty of veggies and protein (founded by a nutritionist!). The flavors are there too!! The acorn and sweet potato waffles are my favorite on the menu along with the pink latte. I've also tried their chicken soup and smoked salmon bagel-- both were amazing! The only thing that would make it better would be if the side salad dressing had more acidity or saltiness-- it was mostly oil, like it wasn't mixed well. Service is great, outdoor seating is nice, food is amazing. I'll be back a million times.

Just one foot in the door is all it takes to know that this is a place of Goodness. I came here for the Salmon Hash and it was just as good as I'd hoped for. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Service was super friendly. Now one of my favorite breakfast spots!

So nice to have a place where dairy and allergens are not a consideration. The big pink smoothie was pretty good, the Berry bar out of the case was fantastic. My waffles were OK, I wish they had arrived more warm. Husband's avocado toast was delicious and it truly tasted like it wasn't an allergy approved bread! Price was a little higher than it seemed it needed to be. Staff was friendly and pretty quick turn around for food.

Cozy little spot feels like the epitome of Portland with friendly vibes, charming baked goods behind glass, freshly made chicken broth to take home, gluten free everything, and seasonal harvest ingredients.

I was in this place when it was satellite dream pizza. Has the same comfortable, welcoming vibes now as then, and that probably has to do more with the people here than the place itself, bastian is gluten-, dairy- and a few other things free; largely vegan/vegetarian but they have meat and eggs. I like this approach, focusing on food allergies while leaving the rest of the food field open. These folks are committed to what they serve, offering loaves of their own gluten free breads. I had the fried chicken sandwich, looked small but filling, crispy and moist chicken, and hte side salad so fresh and iceberg-free. Friendly service, very good coffee and berry crumble.

Cool cafe built into an old house on the North end of Sellwood... awesome vibe and excellent food. Had the salmon salad, and my partner had the gazpacho. Both were excellent and came with this amazing bread baked locally.... bought a loaf and ate as toast for a few days as well. Great spot. Would be perfect if they had wifi (cell signal is terrible inside for some reason).

This 100% gluten free spot is an amazing lunch choice. Employees are super friendly and seating is plentiful when the weather is warm enough to sit outdoors. I got the fried chicken sandwich. The seeded bread had such good texture and the chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I also got a berry smoothie and it was alright but I'm also not a huge fan of banana and that is the base for all of their smoothies.

Prawn taco: 3 stars good flavor on the prawn but completely covered up by the hefty toppings. I had to try the prawns plain to get a sense of the taste. Mostly would describe as the mango flavor with little spice from any habenero. Catfish chili taco: 3.5 stars , solid flavor but completely covered by the wasabi slaw. No chili taste was present. Would be more accurate to call it wasabi catfish- i happen to love wasabi but it still overpowered any depth of flavor to soley be a wasabi taco. The flavors overall were pretty good, however there was very little balance in the tacos. I recommend if you like a heavy taco, not focused on the meat that these would be the tacos for you. With a little more balance allowing the seafood and the spice blends to shine these could be top notch, but they fall short. I was able to also try the yellow fin tuna fish and chip special and I would not recommend that at all. The texture on the fried tuna was downright dense and poor. There is a reason tuna is typically seared and not fried- and this highlighted it for me. The standard breading was VERY light, and provided no texture or taste for the dense fish. I would only recommend getting a standard fish like cod, or halibut and with the beer batter for the fish and chips. I would only rate the yellow fin with standard batter 1.5 stars The guy running the place was very nice

The cashier/host smiled and welcomed me upon passing through the threshold. Being a pescatarian, my options, of course, is limited to the vegetarian ramen. Everything else on the menu contains other meaty products. The last time I ate a vegetarian ramen, my stomach disagreed with the meal. I hoped it would not be a repeat experience. The food came out in less than ten minutes and shocked me by it's presentation. Stewing the broth, the noodles hide under a small hill of ingredients. Even a small soft boiled egg swam with the noodle under the broth. I sipped the broth first. Flavorless. Not sure if it was intentional, or the vegetables needed more time to seep flavor into it. The noodles itself carried the dish and add the pieces of tofu made the dish very palatable. I did leave satisfied and full by the dish. I would recommend finding a way to include more flavor to the broth. Those who know ramen, know how the broth is an essential part.
