The food and restaurant was great. Definitely will go to the other location however, our server was a disaster. I don't know if my friend and I offended him or did something to upset him but he continuously helped every single table around us and continuously forgot to come to us. Waited over twenty minutes after getting our apps for him to take our entree orders, even though he said he would be right back to get them after we got the apps. Even though twenty minutes isn't that long of a wait, he was bringing stuff to other tables and taking their orders, even tables that came after us. Came to check on us like once but was constantly talking to the other tables. Also I asked for a latte when I put in my entree order and never got it. Had to ask for it when we asked to pay. Said he forget to put it in. I just don't understand how he was able to be helpful for every other table there except for us. I mean they were in front of us, behind us and the ones to the side of us. He was jumping and running between them but just avoided us and did the bare minimum. While visiting VA Beach, I decided to check out this place for breakfast before hitting the road back to Richmond. I had wanted to try this place before, but usually I am visiting on a weekend, and it is busy! This time, it was a Thursday morning. I also have friends that live in the area, and had heard good things about this place. So, it was around 8:30 when we got here and it was pretty quiet. The decor of this place is gorgeous. I was immediately looking around at everything, admiring tiles, lighting, color scheme...loved it! Service was prompt and friendly. I had a hard time narrowing down what I wanted for breakfast, but our server was great in helping us figure it out! I ordered the Biscuits N Sausage Gravy and my friend ordered the Jamaican Dark Rum French Toast. They were both delicious!! The sausage gravy was amazing. The french toast is made from French bread, which looked odd when it arrived, but I had a bite of it, and it was amazing! Definitely wish they'd open one of these in Richmond! My lovely wife took me here for my birthday brunch and it was wonderful!! We sat outside under the tent in the parking lot which was decorated nicely. To start of with we ordered the Bangin Balls crab balls with Cajun aioli, Old Bay, 3 cheeses and bacon crumbles. This appetizer was excellent, good melding of flavors and well executed. The Bloody Mary's were spot on. I had the Light Tower omelet, which was an omelet absolutely loaded with crab and shrimp plus cheddar with hollandaise and I added the scallops. OMG, I've never had an omelet comparable to this one; it was superb. I got the garlic Parm tots - very good - and the fried biscuit, which I had to try. It was good but the tots outshined it. The side of 2 pancakes were tasty, light and pillowy, very good pancakes. My wife had the Bay Local fried oysters Benedict with applewood smoked bacon, a top notch choice that she enjoyed. Bay Local is my go-to brunch spot, especially since the new location on Laskin Road opened. Anytime I have friends or family visit, I want them to experience all of Bay Local's glory. It can be tricky sometimes since this place is almost always packed. When I eat alone, I can usually find a spot at the bar, but it can be a bit of a wait seating larger parties since they don't take reservations. If you're willing to wait, it is well worth it. Don't miss out on the brunch drinks. The sorbet mimosas are popular and an excellent excuse to sip champagne. Their Bloody Mary's are also noteworthy, especially the one topped with a soft shell crab. When it comes to food, I have the hardest time choosing. Everything I've had has been so good. My favorites are the Big Country, Bay Local Bennie, Bangin' Balls, and their Loaded BLT (bacon lovers will love this). While Bay Local is a bit more pricey compared to other brunch spots in the area, the quality is always incredible and the portions are generous. I'm looking forward to trying them for dinner at some point. read more

We really enjoyed our lunch here! First time here, as we are in town for the weekend visiting friends. The Tuna Pita was my choice (with some added red onion), and it did not disappoint! We had a nice meal here. The atmosphere is stunning. It's a gorgeous restaurant and bar with a lively atmosphere. The staff were friendly and quick. We were actually looking for a more casual place with our kids but had to pick a place on the fly. The food was more pricey than we expected. I would consider this closer to a $$$ as most entrees were between 20-30. We ended up ordering appetizers, Banging Balls and Fried Carolina Shrimp. Both were very good! This is my favorite brunch spot! My friends and I come here all the time. I've tried most of the items on the menu and have never been disappointed. My go-to favorites are the wings and the avocado toast! The drinks are also fantastic, ruby red mimosa is a must try...jumbo of course! The service is generally not great. While you are waiting (and there's generally quite a wait if you go on a weekend) the service is pretty good as far as getting you drinks and refills. I watched one of my drinks sit on the bar for a solid 10 min once before I had to call a different waitress over because our waiter disappeared. Walked in on a suggestion from a friend. They hyped it pretty well, so was expecting to be very happy. Turned out to be only hype. We ordered the Light Tower and the Big Al. Coffee was old and bitter, the Light Tower was an egg omelette with some seafood - that's it, no seasoning, no effort, imagine pouring eggs on a grill, a handful of old dried out seafood, fold it over and smother it with very bland cream sauce they call hollandaise. The Big Al was a super gooey heavy mess of biscuit drowned in another flavorless sauce with two eggs and some home fries (which were pretty good). also wanted to mention the Garlic Parmesan Tots were NOT garlic parm. They were the same tots we made as kids after coming home from school nothing more at all. Bottom line - their gimmic seems to be the alcohol and drinks, not the food. Went for Friday lunch, Excellent menu, staff, service. Crowed to full capacity as it is new on General Booth BLVD. Ordered drinks...So noisy that server had to bend down to eye level to take orders. Server was also frustrated. Could not hold a conversation with table friends without raising our voice. We finished drinks and left. My wife went a week later and complained of same thing - so noisy. Also other people have posted the same complaint about the new Bay Local. Perhaps going on slow day is better! We brought it up to management- they are looking into it. I had to try this place after all of the great reviews on Yelp. My party of 4 arrived around 11:15 am and it was a 90 minute wait. On any other day I would not wait that long to eat BUT I was on vacation and the food looked too good to pass up. I like being able to see how many people were ahead of us and how long we were already waiting via the wait-list text. We sat outside under a tent. It's in a strip mall. My friends said the inside was very cute when they went to the restroom. The Food: I got One Love with tater tots (it was such a hard decision because I love home fries too but I really really love tots so they won). Everything was delicious. They were parmesan tots. I'm not sure why fries and tots are sprinkled with parmesan cheese in VA but I'm all into it! Fried Calamari: It was some of the best I've ever had. I've just started eating calamari and I never order it but will try it if someone else does. My GF loves calamari so I try it often! I know good food though and this was good. Brunch Grits: My friend devoured this meal. I do not eat grits so I didn't try it. However, my friend was thinking of ordering another one to go before she even finished it. Fried Biscuits: Yeah, fried flour is the devil. LOL. Add honey to that and it's just WOW. Madras Crush: I had 2 or 3 so clearly it was good! The Light Tower: I tried the home fries and a piece of shrimp. After tasting the home fries, the battle between them and the tater tots was intensified. They added Hollandaise sauce to the light tower even though we asked for it to not be included. It took a long time for them to redo the dish. However, the waitress gave us 50% off of that meal because of our wait I'm almost sure her name was Katie. She was fun, high energy, informative and polite. This location follows its sister in how great the decor is as well. Breakfast/Brunch The best place for bennies and mimosas! I love the crab cake Benedict! Full of flavor and perfectly made! I love the sorbet mimosas! I have easily had 3 in a sitting and probably could have gone for more if I didn't have to drive. Dinner I kinda wish breakfast was served all day here because I would gladly order off their regular menu. As for dinner, I feel like options were more limited on their regular menu. I ordered off the specials since I was happy to have some raw oysters. The place is very gracious about the count. I had a total of 9 oysters (instead of 8) since one was a skimpy sized oyster. It was also different to have a selection of mignonettes to choose from - I chose the lemon sauce that brightened up my oysters! Husband and I also shared some seared tuna with cucumber and avocado slices. Presentation was gorgeous! I think I could use a bit more sauce, but the tuna was cooked perfectly! I also enjoyed the Rosé options as a drink and got me a Frosé with strawberry sorbet. Husband was a bit bummed since no stouts were available, but it kinda makes sense since we're by the beach to have more light beer as a selection. Love love love this place for breakfast/brunch! This was our first visit to the General Booth location. We noticed as we sat down that It was extremely loud and there seemed to be an echo in the room and we could barely hear each other talk. A person came to take our order. They didn't seem open to suggesting items on the menu since it was our first visit, they pointed out a few things. I chose waffles my husband ordered the Jamaican rum French toast a food runner delivered the food and immediately left. I did not have any butter or syrup with my chicken and waffles. The eggs appeared to be like McDonald's egg that was folded over flat they weren't scrambled and like the other items on my plate had no taste. I wasn't asked if I wanted cheese added. I didn't know if there were options to replace the waffle with a blueberry waffle. my husband's Jamaican rum French toast was ok and the sausage was lackluster again he was not offered or did not include any butter or syrup on his plate, a person came to refill our tea and lemonade and didn't check on us again during our meal. The check comes and there's an 18% gratuity automatically added to the check... so for two people with just two regular beverages was over $50. I want to make it clear that I don't mind paying good money to eat out since we don't do it often anymore and I don't mind giving the staff a gratuity. However, the food and the ambience really should measure up to what they're charging and what they expect to be given as a tip, your folks should be trained better and trained to cook a better product for their customers who are paying good money! read more

I love the design of this place, service was good too but the food i would say is avarage. I had some tuna steak that came with a salad and a poached egg. Tasted ok. On the other hand my husband's chicken soup was salty, he also had some salty griled shrimp topped with some cheese, side salad and house dressing-same-verrrry salty. This place has never disappointed me. Came here on a Saturday around 10am and there was a long wait. Good thing about this place they have a pretty decent size area where guest can sit and wait on there table while enjoying a cocktail. Luckily 2 spots opened up at the bar so we ended up enjoying our meal at the bar. This place has amazing mimosas and everything I've ever ordered as far as food has been great. Every time I've gone I have ordered theirs crab balls for an appetizer. There breakfast is amazing, I've yet to try anything for lunch but from what I've seen when the waitress brings food out to the surrounding tables everything has looked super yummy!
