This place is ALWAYS poppin. So prepare yourself for a lengthy wait. The shortest amount of time I have waited is about 25 minutes and that was after they opened the side waiting area, which I love. It's beautifully decorated! Love all the different seating. I've always heard such good things about this place, and it did not let me down. I got the Big Country, with fried chicken. Yum! Their tater tots are soooo good. Probably the main reason I go here I also love their cheesy grits. The service is wonderful and staff has been pretty friendly every time I've been here. They sat us at a high top but I noticed a booth nearby that would've been better. So, I asked a staff member passing by and wow, how rude she was. I basked if she knew if we could sit at the booth and instead of checking with the hostess staff for us she yells at me that she doesn't know because she isn't a hostess. Had brunch here yesterday with my guy. Where I've been here several times, this was his first visit to Bay Local - Shore Drive. I ordered the Bloody Bay which is made with a Honey Habanero Moon Shine. I enjoy a spicy bloody mary and this hit the spot - and at $8 it's a reasonable price. As I looked over the menu, my first choice would have been the Jamaican Dark Rum French Toast (I love French Toast) but when Jo showed a picture that had been posted, I quickly changed my mind. The dish looked basic - a few diagonal slices of Baguette-style French Bread French Toast and two strips of bacon - that's it! So I went for the Blueberry Waffles with Sausage Links. The waffles themselves were barely warm and dry - reminded me of biting into an icecream cone LOL but they had a good flavor, topped with the blueberry sauce, sugar icing glaze and whipped cream. I added two eggs to my meal, but was disappointed that none of the Waffle, French Toast or Pancake options come with eggs....but the Chicken & Waffles do - go figure. Jo had the Just Right Shimp and Grits and Bay Mimosa and was pleased with his meal. Just an FYI to others who may not have been here yet - this is a popular restaurant, often with very long wait times to be seated, particularly on weekends. The space is very nice with an eclectic decor, but it also gets VERY LOUD. In addition, there is an AUTOMATIC 18% gratuity added to your bill. The drinks are what makes this place so special. It is definitely a place to go to for yummy, Instagrammable brunch drink photos. I didn't drink it because I'm currently a breastfeeding mom but from the looks of it, my people were surprised that it was really sweet and you couldn't taste the alcohol in it. They all loved the jumbo mimosa. I took a little sip of it because I never had a mimosa with sorbet in it. The sorbet is a game-changer! Makes the taste of the mimosa pop! The additional mimosas ordered like the Bay Mimosa was delicious as well. The food was not as good as we had hoped it would be. We all had high expectations after receiving such good drinks. For apps, we ordered the fried shrimp, the banging crab balls, and the spinach/artichoke/crab dip. The fried shimp was more bread than shrimp. I wasn't too fond of the breading. There wasn't any seasoning in the breading. Just the sauce they put on top of it. The banging crab balls and the crab dip were highlights. I liked both equally because I'm a big fan of crab. Nothing really out of the extraordinary to mention about them... they were just good! The crab dip came late to the table so I was unable to take a photo of it. But the presentation of the crab dip and pita chips was the best one of out of the apps. When our plates came out, I was displeased by their presentations and proportion size. I was displeased by the size of the chicken compared to the waffles on my husband's plate. We are used to chicken matching the size of the waffle... or maybe getting more chicken pieces to make up for the size of the waffle. My crab cake bennies were ok taste-wise but presentation-wise I felt like it could have been prettier. This was my first time getting home fries unseasoned. That threw me off. The Jamaican french toast looked like it was just thrown on the plate too. My other 2 family members ordered the Big Al and a cinnamon bun waffle. Again, presentation was lacking as well as seasoning for some parts of their dish like the eggs or home fries. We just weren't used to that. I'd definitely recommend this place for drinking and small bites. I'm not sure if I'd order entrees again based on my own tastes, but I wouldn't discourage anyone from trying out the dishes themselves. This is a great place for brunch the tricky part about this restaurant is the lack of parking and the extreme popularity. This past time I had to park in the far back of a neighborhood across the main road. Besides the tough part of getting to the restaurant the vibes here are great there's tons of energy flowing and the food and drinks are nice as well. The menu is fairly large and offers many options, but I decided to go with the crab cake Benedict after a lot of deliberation. I haven't had much luck with crab cakes in Virginia but this restaurant nailed it! The crab cake was full of flavor, the egg was cooked perfectly, the English muffin was toasty and warm, and the side of crispy tater tots made me feel like a kid again. I normally wait for to visit before I review a place but I couldn't help myself, Bay Local Eatery is definitely worth a visit. It's located at Chesapeake beach which is more of a local spot but I loved that it's not as touristy and the beach is actually very quiet and more relaxing. I came on a Saturday afternoon with 4 friends, and we had to wait 45 minutes for first available. It probably took right around the 45 and we were given a table in a tent which had been set up in the parking lot. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich, and I really enjoyed it. Soft squishy roll, crispy juicy chicken, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle and a ramekin of spicy aioli on the side. Excellent sandwich. The fries were fresh cut, my problem with them was they were seasoned too heavily. They had put on salt and old Bay and it was just too much, to where I needed a second glass of water. The Arnold Palmer I drank was OK, but not great, it definitely didn't taste fresh. I did notice the chunks of chicken in my friend's chicken salad pita and it looked like a great meal as well. Didn't drink any alcohol, but they have a very impressive menu of cocktails. The food menu is a fine variety of breakfast and lunch, everybody should be able to find something they like. read more

I am not sure if they take reservations but I am definitely going to look into it in the future because the wait time was pretty steep on a Sunday. I love the eclectic feel of the restaurants decor (be careful though, there is a particular lamp shade in here that is put crooked & if your Drunk off of their mimosas, you may think that your extra drunk just by looking at it) LOL! The food never disappoints, this is just one of the many times that I've visited Bay local. There is always a wait, so just be patient as it is so worth it. We had the shrimp and grits with a side of French toast and the FLC BLT. The shrimp and grits were perfectly creamy, plenty of sauce and the taste was definitely there. How can you go wrong with a rum soaked French toast? They also coat it in like a sugar blend, so when it is cooked it is very crispy. Again, amazing. FLC BLT Was not my favorite, it lacked flavor- i'm also not typically that person that orders a sandwich when I go out to eat, for some reason I thought I was craving this and I wasn't. Great atmosphere! We loved our server, who was so bubbly and friendly (I wish I remembered her name). Upon arriving the place was quite packed and we were told it would be a 30 min wait. We sat in a very comfortable seating area with lots of couches and even drink menus to look at. I think we only waited about 15 of the 30 minutes before being seated. Cold brew coffee was excellent! We didn't do alcoholic drinks but they have a pretty extensive and fun menu. Food was great! I had the chicken and waffle brunch, which was seasoned well. Again the service wasn't awful but I had to get up a few times for coffee and had to go to the bar to pay, and one of the hosts was pretty rude. Food was pretty good but everything was way over salted. What knocked it from three to two for me was the 18 percent gratuity on a breakfast place with sub par service. This was my first time eating here. We were greeted by a disgruntled employee. I ordered a salad with grilled shrimp. I was pleasantly surprised how tasty the salad was. My friend had an issue with her salmon dish. However, she was able to choose a different dish. The last thing that took me back was the 18% gratuity already included on my bill.
