If you're looking for fresh, delicious seafood or a tasty brunch you've found it here. Bay Local Eatery is a great little spot off of Shore Dr. Parking is pretty limited, so keep that in mind. It gets pretty busy, too. I was lucky enough on a Friday around noon to find a spot in the parking lot, and the wait was around 20 minutes. Well, now I see why! The inside of the restaurant is well-decorated, very on theme for a seafood spot on Shore Dr. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The inside was very loud as it was packed for brunch, lots of people drinking. I spotted these gigantic mimosa drinks on people's tables. I have to come back towards the evening for one of those! The host and the waitress were super nice to my boyfriend and I! We were attended to very well - the waitress always made sure we had drinks and that everything was to our liking. She did have to explain to us that there were no substitutions or modifications to any of the items. My boyfriend didn't want onions on his burger and he couldn't order it without them. Though it turned out okay because the veggies are served on the side of the burger so they stay crispy and cold, it's something to keep in mind. I suppose they don't allow it because it gets so busy and remembering everyone's requests can get difficult. I haven't really run into that before at another restaurant, though, so I was kind of surprised. Anywho, my partner and I shared a Spinach Parmesan Crab Dip, which was sooo good. Plenty of chunks of fresh crab, served hot and topped with tasty parm. I used to avoid cooked spinach, but it went really well in the dip. For my entrée, I got a Shrimp Po Boy Wrap. I don't normally order wraps... but this one impressed me. The cajun aioli was delicious - I got a side of it for dipping. The shrimp stayed crispy and delicious throughout my meal. I really liked this dish. I usually get po boys and they end up messy. But a wrap is a really smart idea to keep everything together and to get a bit of everything in every bite. I also got fries and mac and cheese on the side. The fries were great, and you can tell they're homemade. The mac and cheese was baked to perfection. My boyfriend got one of the day's specials - the Pimento Burger, add bacon. He loved it. The bacon was crispy and fresh, the burger cooked perfectly, and lots of tasty pimento cheese on top. He also ordered a slice of Key Lime Pie for dessert.... and OMG! I stole a couple bites and it was to die for. Sweet, real lime flavor and a perfect crust. We both ended up clearing our plates. I'm hungry again from writing this review. Everything was so good !! We will be back for sure and hopefully try some drinks and sample some of their breakfasty items. 6/29/2021: We got here early (note: new opening time of 8am, not 7) for the Early Bird specials (now served between 8-9 am) and they did not disappoint. I opted for the Lesner and my husband chose the Cheddar Bacon Omelet. Food was fantastic as usual despite the wrong "bread side" (toast instead of fried biscuit). Coffee was really good and most welcomed this early! Service was a little off, with coffee sitting empty a bit and waiting for the "bread side" to be addressed. Perhaps our server was overwhelmed or still just a little sleepy, but it's a team effort at the BLE so no worries. This was not enough to keep us away. The CB omelet was packed full of bacon and the cheese grits were on point according to my husband. My Lesner was perfect: the kitchen nailed the over easy eggs (as always!!) and seasoned the home fries well. The butterflied sausage link was tasty and the waffle light and fluffy. This place is great! We waited 75 minutes to be seated. It was torture! But worth every minute we waited. This spot was up the road from where I was staying and had great reviews so we decided to stop by for brunch before heading home. They serve truly delicious food, but the drinks were just as good. Quality ingredients in everything they serve makes the difference. Great prices too, only around 6.00 for a great drink is outstanding compared to an average of 13.00 at most bars and restaurants. They make an orange and pineapple crush that are absolutely Devine. The Bloody Mary was absolutely fantastic, spicy and garnished with some pickled veggies, so good! But believe me when I say, the memory of a happy stomach rose to my happy heart then to my obsessive brain - Bay Local Is now at the top of my brunch restaurants list! For drinks my dad and I ordered cold pressed tomato juice and hot caramel latte. Both were good. My dad ordered the omelet with shrimp and crabmeat which came with toast and we chose cheese grits. Great portion size. Super delicious, my dad sniffed it down with a satisfied throat grunt lol. I ordered the bene (you have a choice of traditional English muffin or French bread) with fried oysters. Bene already had that egg and creamy sauce - yummy. On our way out I was so euphoric that I wanted a token of my experience at Bay Local that I bought a T shirt for my dad. This place is busy every time we go in but the service and food is always top notch! The mimosas are delicious. This is our go to spot after church on Sunday and it's a great walk from our apartment! One star knocked off because sometimes I feel like we get checked on by different servers multiple times and while it's better than being ignored, it can sometimes be a bit much when different people keep checking on you because they don't know that someone already did. Just ok. Very nondescript on the outside but with a cool modern feel inside, initially was very excited about this place. However, for a restaurant that is characterized as "seafood", they were lacking key dishes like fried fish. In addition the prices do not seem to be worth it. No dishes were under $15, even one order of 6 shrimp. In addition, the chicken that came with the chicken and waffles was kind of sad especially for $16. The chicken was kind of dry as well. To add to that, service was kind of slow and the place was extraordinary cold to the point where the people we ate with had to grab a blanket from their car. Everything on the menu is AMAZING! I visited with my girlfriend and best friend. I had the breakfast burrito, LOTS of food! The portion size was humongous! The burrito was very delicious, bring your appetite if you order this. My best friend had the one love, and he didn't even speak while eating. We took a drive today to. Heck this place out. Really there is only one negative and I can't really ding it for that. There is only five parking spots and almost no where close to park. I ended up over a street away across shore drive. First the service. So nice all of them seemed real happy to be there. Never waiting on anything and we sat outside. Now the food. My wife ordered avocado toast with poached eggs and bacon. It was fresh and tasty and plenty of food. They have this lemon vinaigrette with it that is super tasty. I ordered the dark rum French toast with bacon. I never order French toast but this sounded amazing. It was. Absolutely great maybe the best French toast I've ever had. Had the chance to visit Bay Local Eatery with the family and it was a good time. Bay Local Eatery has two locations in Virginia Beach, we went to one on Shore Drive and another near Laskins Drive. Know this about the Shore Drive locations, there is limited parking. When it is busy and there is a long wait, parking could be a really big challenge. I have a large size truck (come here is a small car is you can) and I ended up parking in someone's front yard on the street behind the restaurant. Thank you so much to the couple that allowed us to do so. Also, don't park in the lot to the restaurant next door because they will have you towed. VA Beach Police is hot in this area so if it says "no parking", don't risk it, cause your vehicle will be towed. So after dealing with the parking situation, and waiting for a little over an hour to get in, we finally made it to our table. The staff was SUPER nice and friendly! Our server immediately came out to take our drink orders. The menu was filled with many breakfast and lunch specials. Everything from French Toast, eggs, omelets to burgers chicken sandwiches and entre selections. I was really impressed with the selection. They also had a variety of drinks, alcohol menu and juices. There were seven in our party and the staff masterfully took our order. We had a variety of things from breakfast to lunch. The servings were huge and the price was right. The décor of the restaurant was kind of old to me, but it was very clean. I normally determine cleanliness by the bathrooms. If the bathrooms are fairly clean, that is a good measuring stick to use for the kitchen and the rest of the restaurant. Definitely a good time and we will be returning. read more

When I think of brunch, my go-to is always bay local. There's something for everyone here whether you like seafood, vegan, or the traditional breakfast foods and sandwiches. I always get the bay local Bennie (fried oysters and an addictive spinach concoction) with tots! Always get their tots - so good! My husband got the One Love and added a fried crab cake and chicken salad for a few bucks more. Personally I loved their chicken salad! If you like grapes in your chicken salad, I would highly recommend. I think one of the biggest reasons why Bay Local is so appealing to some people, is their option for giant mimosas! We did not get that this time, but I've had it before and it could easily be shared between 5-6 people. All the sorbet mimosas are really good and worth a try, I personally always get the mango. Very strong but so good. I have been to both shore drive and laskin locations and they each have their pros and cons. The shore drive location is closer to my house so we tend to go here. This location is much bigger with usually a shorter wait if you come early. Both locations do not take reservations for brunch so always plan ahead. At shore drive, they have an extra waiting room similar to a bar/cafe where you can order drinks and food items while you wait for your seat. The con about this location is very limited parking. Opposite for the Laskin location - larger parking but smaller restaurant/waiting area and from my experience, the wait is longer. read more

This local place is always busy and there is a reason for it.... There's something amazing on the menu for everyone and everything is good. They don't take reservations so the wait on the weekends could be a while but they opened up a new space for waiting and you can order drinks and apps while waiting for a table. We started with the calamari which was okay, not bad, but was not the freshest. I like that they served two different sauces with the calamari. My daughter's pancake was large and she really enjoyed her meal. My husband ordered the crab Benedict, which was good. I ordered the fried oyster Benedict. The first two bites of my Benedict was great, the next two bites after that I had shell in it. It really ruined the experience for me. The staff really made the experience right by taking my dish off my check. I would go back to this restaurant because they handled this situation great. What a cute little (smedium) restaurant! Came here for my best friend's birthday brunch & it was a good time. Got here around noon to put in a reservation since it can't be done beforehand. For a party of 10+ it was going to be an hour to two hour wait...and boy was it! Closer to two hours, they actually moved a party so we could be seated, especially since they close at 3pm. Though while we waited, we were able to get mimosas from the bar. Sorbet mimosas are cute. I didn't see much difference from any other mimosa that I've had, but I will say they got the job done (if you know what I mean). Finally seated and our waitress was amazing! Super attentive for our large party, I believe her name was Sarah. Ordered the huge mimosas and it was the greatest thing ever, especially for pictures. My crab cake sandwich was delicious. I ordered the Bloody Bay which is made with a Honey Habanero Moon Shine. I enjoy a spicy bloody mary and this hit the spot - and at $8 it's a reasonable price. As I looked over the menu, my first choice would have been the Jamaican Dark Rum French Toast (I love French Toast) but when Jo showed a picture that had been posted, I quickly changed my mind. The dish looked basic - a few diagonal slices of Baguette-style French Bread French Toast and two strips of bacon - that's it! So I went for the Blueberry Waffles with Sausage Links. The waffles themselves were barely warm and dry - reminded me of biting into an icecream cone LOL but they had a good flavor, topped with the blueberry sauce, sugar icing glaze and whipped cream. I added two eggs to my meal, but was disappointed that none of the Waffle, French Toast or Pancake options come with eggs....but the Chicken & Waffles do - go figure. Jo had the Just Right Shimp and Grits and Bay Mimosa and was pleased with his meal. Just an FYI to others who may not have been here yet - this is a popular restaurant, often with very long wait times to be seated, particularly on weekends. This place is ALWAYS poppin. So prepare yourself for a lengthy wait. The shortest amount of time I have waited is about 25 minutes and that was after they opened the side waiting area, which I love. It's beautifully decorated! Love all the different seating. I've always heard such good things about this place, and it did not let me down. I got the Big Country, with fried chicken. Yum!
