Wow, we just had a Bayview Bistro box (the Mardi Gras box) and it was phenomenal.

For once in my life, I was forced to eat like a civilized man. On the outside, everything looked normal, but in the inside it was anything but normal: I had to open my third eye center so that I could ascend my primal instinct of going to town on this burrito. Equipped with a knife, I sawed thru that behemoth methodically - too fast and she would burst open, too slow & she would give me the cold side eye. I am the burrito slayer. Cash only, was very very well priced for the size (about $13. Receipt didn't make it out alive).

I have dined here many times in the past, and this is a cash-only restaurant. I ordered the Regular Burrito with Beef Steak ($10.25). The regular burrito comes with a flour tortilla, rice, beans, salsa, onions, and cilantro, plus your choice of meat or vegetarian. Meat choices listed on the menu: * Al Pastor - Marinated Pork * Carnitas - Deep Fried Pork * Chile Verde - Pork Green Sauce * Chorizo - Mexican Sausage * Carne Asada - Steak * Lengua - Beef Tongue * Pollo - Chicken * Cabeza - Beef Head * Tripas - Intestines I asked the cashier which meat was most popular, and he recommended the beef steak, which had a slight hint of spiciness. The burrito came with pinto beans and rice. I forgot to ask if I could substitute black beans. The burrito wasn't too salty, and the beef steak was just okay. I also think the $10.25 Carne Asada burrito is a good deal. At other taquerias, carne asada is often an additional charge or the burrito costs more when you choose steak. I usually ask for a receipt even when paying cash. When I checked my receipt, I noticed I was charged an additional $0.25 for "Bolsa To Go" (bag) even though I was dining in and didn't receive a to-go bag. It's not about the $0.25, but I think it's important for a business to have integrity and charge customers only for what they actually receive. I hope this isn't something being charged to other dine-in customers as well. Overall, I would come back to try a different meat, but next time I'll make sure to clearly say dine-in and check my receipt to make sure I wasn't charged for a to-go bag.

I now realize it's a major local hangout spot when there's a soccer game going on, but also their tacos are great! They have excellent soft corn tortillas. We asked for "mild" but they were still quite spicy (not overwhelmingly so). * Carne Asada ($3) - 3 stars Good flavor, but quite a bit of fat I had to pick off. * Cochinita Pibil ($3) - 4.5 stars Great flavor, tender meat! * Pastor ($3) - 4 stars Great flavor & crisp. * Sope w/ carnitas ($4) - 2 stars The bottom of the sope was too hard, making it difficult to cut. Meat was too chewy, full of fat. & Quesadilla w/ carnitas ($12) - 3.5 stars Tortillas were soft, filling tasty, except carnitas was too fatty & chewy.

TWICE AT GOLDEN GATE PARK…read more In the past 11 months I've been to two exhibitions at De Young Museum. After the exhibitions instead of eating at the cafe in the museum I would look at food trucks at Golden Gate Park. After those two exhibitions I've ordered food from this food truck. The first time I came to Cochinita was in September after the exhibition featuring photos taken by Paul McCartney during the rise of The Beatles. The item that stood out from the truck was the elote tots. They were Mexican-style corn kernels top over tater tots. I am a sucker for tater tots. With sour cream and sauce I was worried if the tater tots would be soggy. The tater tots were still crispy. The complimenting textures of corn and tater tots made this a satisfying dish. The second time I came to the food truck at Golden Gate Park was the last day of exhibition "Monet and Venice." I was hoping to see if the elote tater tots were available; they weren't. I scanned up and down the items available listed on the food truck. One item that intrigued me was the tradicional - a plate with two types of fried tortilla. The panucho is regular fried while the salbut is fried with a puffy appearance. I love fried food, but these two tortillas weren't oily. These two kinds of tortilla fried dishes provided different textures to the toppings. I never ate Yucatan food before ordering food at Cochinita. If you are tasting a new cuisine you never had before ordering from a restaurant versus a food truck is different. Whereas in a restaurant while sitting you ask for recommendation whereas at a food truck while you're standing you go with your gut feeling. From my two experiences at the Cochinita food truck I ordered items I never had before and I enjoyed both of them. If I go to the Chochinita food truck at Golden Gate Park again and see elote tots, panucho, and salbut what will I order next time? I'm going to order an item I never had before.
