It's a sour fermented rice drink. We got pretty much everything on the menu with the exception of the pickles and olives plate. We really wanted the pork jowl but they were sold out (we were seated at 8) - oh well. I really enjoyed everything, the burratta was light and delicious, tuna was great, hamachi excellent, KFC was not super crispy (light breading) but cooked to perfection and I liked the sauce a lot! Nothing was heavy and the dishes are small and thoughtful. Great spot for a date night or bite with friends. Service was excellent as well.

We had an 8 pm reservation and the host was very welcoming when we got there. We ordered: - perilla noodles - fried maitake - beef tartare - fried chicken - pork jowl - Maekoli flight All the dishes were tasty overall but our favorites were the noodles and the pork jowl. The flight was interesting, some more favorable to our palette than others. One flight was enough for me and my fiancé. Our only downside was our first three dishes came out quickly but the pork and the fried chicken took over an hour, with later tables receiving their same dishes first. By the end, they also tried to take the plates before the rest of the food came out but we couldn't cancel the dishes because they were said to be already in progress. The timing wasn't ideal which was unfortunate because the food and experience was great at the start. Overall the food is good and the service may have just been unlucky.

Prudently, I'd rather traverse from the peninsula on a random Monday for some Gumbo. To say that I was pleasantly surprised was an understatement. The gumbo was seasoned perfectly. I noticed that the chicken is shredded presumably from a pressure cooker, which turns every bite into a mouthful of everything. Despite my best efforts to not be dramatic, one can tell the passion and soul that is put into this bowl of Gumbo. Though I do see some comments, and I agree, that the Gumbo is not thick enough, I don't really care for a heavy/dense gumbo. This bowl has sufficient structure absent the heavy dense roux, and it was exactly to my liking. Though I wish there was a touch more rice, my $6 Caltrain ticket (+tax and muni) was not spent in vain for this heartwarming bowl of gumbo, with a side of passion, defining what real soul food is.

(One star only missing for lack of ambiance.) We tried as many things as we could try! I had the shrimp po boy, my husband had the hot link po boy. We also had the gumbo, red beans and rice, fries, and a hoe cake. Everything was DELICIOUS. We loved it all and would definitely come back. If I could give it another half star, I would. The food couldn't be better!

I ordered a little bit of everything - chocolate, vanilla, blue corn, churro, and strawberry hibiscus. It was a bit of a bummer that my strawberry conchas didn't make it into the box. Not sure what happened - I was chatting with the cashier/concha server so maybe they were distracted. I also should have checked my order. The conchas were SOOOOO good. Very soft and fresh - not too sweet. The chocolate-y flavor wasn't really coming through to me. And the vanilla and churro flavors were very similar. The most prominent was the blue corn - and I think this was my fave. Comparatively speaking to other conchas at a panderia, $5 a concha is a bit steep. They are really tasty tho and definitely worth it. Think of it as a top shelf concha. Oh and the good news is, they're vegetarian friendly - they only use butter. I'll be back next time I'm in the San Fran area.

Ambiance: Homey feeling with a display of the baked conchas for you to choose from. There does appear to be a selection of six different flavors to choose from. Service: Friendly staff that welcome you upon entering and quick to help serve you with also a relatively short wait time as well between ordering and pick up. Food: The churro concha tasted like a roll with cinnamon sugar on top. The bread was light and soft though it did taste a little dry. The price is slightly high at $5 per concha which are slightly cheaper when buying in a bundle. Overall, I'd have to check out a few of their other flavors and I'd be interested in trying their Pan De Muerto when it comes back again.

Highly recommend trying out this place and I'll be back soon to try more items on the menu. They also have indoor and patio seating. Patio seating was great for a warm afternoon. Came here with my partner and the waitress only wanted to approach me, and was not nice to my partner at all. When he was mid sentence ordering his drink, she cut him off and demanded to see his ID. ( mind you...it is also his bday...) A while later, we decided to get another round and he raised his hand hoping to get her attention. I completely understand that being a server is hectic and very stressful, but a little acknowledgment when you see your table asking for you should be bare minimum. She completely ignored him multiple times. When she finally came to our table and bluntly said to him " I see you okay. I'm doing other things but I see you. " she only wanted to speak with me when ordering also....which I found kind of weird. She is also not the nicest to the table next to us also, so at least it's not targeted. But aside from that, drinks and small bites are pretty standard for a cocktail bar. Nothing too special, but a good place to try with friends. The service mostly ruined it for us that night.
