We were really surprised by our visit tonight as the reviews were really good. Our experience was very different. The brisket was over cooked and dry, the Mac and Cheese was dry, the ribs were cooked perfectly, but were very greasy. The sausage was flavorless and dry as well. I was in the area looking for a quick late lunch and found BBQ2U. I ordered the brisket sandwich and fried pickles to go. Oh my Lord... the brisket was heavenly. It was smoky, tender, and falling apart... SO good! It came between sesame burger buns. The fried pickles had a heavier batter than I like but I was too full from the sandwich to eat the pickles. Legit and fantastic BBQ. It's hard to find true Texas/Southern BBQ in the PNW, but BBQ2U does it right. The flavor and vibe in the food reminds you of a mom & pop joint you find in the south. The brisket is tender and smoked to perfection, that is true sign of genuine BBQ spot. But my favorites were the turkey and banana pudding. The turkey had a great Smokey flavor and was tender to the cut. And the banana pudding is as advertised, a signature item on their menu. The staff as well, brings the southern hospitality and makes the whole experience truly authentic. Like I said in the beginning, it's hard to find great authentic BBQ in the PNW, but BBQ2U is worth the drive to Gig Harbor and having some amazing BBQ. Go for the Beef Rib, Stay for the Pecan Pie. We visited a couple months ago and we are STILL talking about it. They make the absolute Beef Rib we have ever had anywhere in the entire country. It completely falls apart, melts in your mouth, and then punches you in the palate with insanely intense beefy flavor. Texas and Arizona maybe might have better barbecue in general. But for Beef Ribs in particular, BBQ2U easily beats places in Texas or in any other state that we've tried. The only problem is that the Beef Rib sells out so fast that you have to arrive early to get one. I recommend leaving work a few hours early if you can; it's that good. The service is perfect: friendly, fun, and fast. The rest of the meats and sides and desserts are pretty standard, good stuff. If you like sweet sauce, then their barbecue sauce is great. But don't forget the Pecan Pie! That was the standout dessert for us. The Pecan Pie at BBQ2U is just perfect. It's not too sweet, not too bitter, not burned, not raw, nicely mellow, not too bland, sticky but not too sticky. Perfect. read more

There is nothing better than bbq when you're starving. I ordered their one serving with the three spare ribs and it's everything I asked for. Their sauce was on point. It had the perfect combination of sticky, sour, and tangy flavors that I enjoy on ribs. The meat was falling off the bone and easily slid off. Delicious BBQ in Gig Harbor. I know some people can be pretty picky about BBQ, but I think if you are on the peninsula this place is worth checking out! The brisket was incredibly tender and had a great smoky flavor. The pulled pork was tasty, although it was a little dry. The sauce was good, although I should have checked if there were other choices to try. BBQ2U offers several sides. I tried the beans, coleslaw, mac and cheese, and banana pudding. The coleslaw was fresh and the mac and cheese had the perfect amount of cheesiness. The beans were pretty good however I like them a little spicier so I added pepper. The banana pudding was the perfect way to cap off a good meal. I love how the vanilla wafers get soft after being mixed with the pudding. I wish the bananas were a little fresher since the banana slices in my pudding were partially frozen. I ordered online for take out. The staff was kind and although the line to order inside the restaurant was long, they fulfilled my order within 6 minutes of the expected preparation time. Will definitely be returning. Today was my second visit for July. Food and ambience are still five stars. My order, not so much. I ordered 1/2 slab of ribs, 2 - baked beans, 2 - potato salads and 2 - corn muffins. I got home ready to slam my food. I got the baked beans ready and about to do the same thing to the potato salad when I became confused by the (c) and whatever the other letter was on the lid - I assume an (s), since it's cole slaw. My feelings were hurt when I lifted the lid and saw that it was cole slaw and not the potato salad I ordered, because I don't stay close enough to go back. The cashier was very polite, professional and friendly. We conversed as he prepared my order. He repeated the order back to me and even said St. Louis ribs, when my brain failed me lol. I saw on yelp that someone compared this place to Lockhart's in Texas, and that's a pretty tall claim to make. I lived in Kansas, and Texas for 4 years and Lockhart's is one of the top bbq places in the US, so if someone was comparing BBQ2U to Lockhart's, I had better check it out. So I showed up right as the doors opened and ordered the Brisket and spare ribs. As the cut the brisket, you could tell they stayed true to true Texas brisket with only salt and pepper for the rub. The meat looked moist and the ribs did as well. I got the Mac and cheese and slaw as a side. First off....the sides were meh...but that's ok. I'm not coming there for side dishes. As I bit into the brisket, I was pleasantly surprised as to how it tasted. I won't lie, it was pretty darn good, and i can honestly say, this is the best brisket in the state. My next bite was the ribs, and while those fell off the bone, and were good, I personally like different kinds of rubs on my ribs vs the salt and pepper they used. While they were still darn good, I would have made mine differently. But then again, this is Texas bbq and they are staying true to the seasonings. One word of advice, get there as soon as they open so you don't risk getting dry meat. I could imagine as the day goes on, the meat would dry out as gig harbor probably doesn't have a line of people coming here for bbq. So overall, is this on par with Lockhart's....YES&NO. But is it good and worth traveling 2 hours to try this place? Absolutely! It is true Texas bbq, and I will come here quite often now as I am working in Tacoma and it's only a 10 minute drive from my work. It's the closest thing this state has to Texas bbq. Good work guys, especially for being in the PNW. Ohh and the bbq sauce was really good! I hope they make that there as I would buy a bottle of it any day! read more

The smell alone takes me back to the pit houses i visited during my travels through Texas. The food always tastes fresh, well seasoned, and properly cooked (low and slow). I have fully enjoyed all of their meats, but the king is still the brisket. Really you can't wrong with anything they have. Their bbq sauce does taste like it's been smoked, however it's not overwhelming and I would say it tastes better than most sauces in the area or store bought.
