Great BBQ. Brisket is spot on as well as the beans and Mac and cheese. Mixing it all together with the house sauce all together it makes a great meal. If I had to complain is not being closer or on the Tacoma side of the bridge. But still worth the toll. read more

I went here at the beginning of May after hearing that this place was authentic bbq and the owners brought their knowledge from Texas. I will say the meet was cooked quite well and their brisket was seasoned perfectly. That's about all the praise I can give. Their sauce, which they only have one of btw, is halfway decent as it does go well on the brisket but is too sweet imho. There is zero heat to it and your only option to add heat is Tabasco and sriracha which is not ideal. I thought that being from Texas would at least bring the options of sweet and sweet heat, but I was wrong. Their nachos were good with the pulled pork and it was put together well, but again there's no heat to them and pickled jalapeños just aren't the right heat. Their chili was laughable at best as it's basically a vegetable broth. That was the most disappointing thing I had there. I've had chili in Texas and I know this owner knows that what they call chili is not chili. Nothing really to say about the service as it's pretty minimal other than just ordering your food but the people were nice. Atmosphere was ok but nothing to write home about. I was really hoping to finally get good bbq near me after all of my travels through Virginia, the Carolinas, Georgia, and Texas, but no such luck. If the owners want to know what I think could drastically improve their restaurant then I say diversify with more sauces like mustard based and sweet mesquite along with some sweet heat. Fix your chili. Like seriously just fix it. If you do those two things then I believe it could be a good spot because there isn't much around here for bbq and we desperately need it. There's one other spot in gig harbor that's just slightly better than this, but I have never in my life paid over $100 for bbq that subpar so I'd love it if this place made some improvements. Even take inspiration from pecos in Seattle for how to make a few improvements. read more

This place's brisket is so good that you will eat your entire plate despite being pretty darn full towards the end. The first bite is amazing, but the next bites are even better. Then you will think about having to run ten miles in order to burn off the brisket, but then realize you can't even run five miles, because you're currently full of brisket and oh yeah, you've also never been a runner. And then you'll wash down the brisket with sides (baked beans and banana pudding, what a combo), secretly hoping that maybe those won't be that good so you'll spare yourself the calories, only to find out that they're delicious too, gosh darn it. Fortunately for you, they offer Coke Zero as one of the fountain drink options, so you'll pick that in order to offset all of the calories you consumed from the amazing meal. I grew up in the South and on Sunday's my idea of church was to attend a BBQ joint run by a Michelin star check who left fine dining for to create fine BBQ. I'll gladly debate Texas vs. Carolina vs. Memphis BBQ and appreciate all the above. But now I live in Seattle. I've had acceptable, overpriced BBQ at Jack's. I've been disappointed by the Man and eaten countless BBQ dishes that I wouldn't grace with the name. Today is the first time in Western WA that I've been to a BBQ place that would survive in any southern state. I would happily give BBQ2U 4 stars in Austin or Atlanta, it's not Franklin or Stiles but it's solid. So lets get to nitty gritty: 5 Stars: Sweet Tea. OMG, I'd almost forgotten how good sweet tea can be, without the hint of tannin and supersaturated with sugar to where it's in the metastable zone just this side of crystallization. 5 Stars: Staff friendliness/helpfulness, restaurant cleanliness & environment. 4+ Stars: The Chicken & Turkey: Boneless Chicken & Turkey Breast both conveyed the smoke flavor perfectly. They needed no sauce albeit were a hint dry. I imagine they'd make an unbelievable chicken club sandwich or T-Day Bird. ---Intersection for a 2 Star----: The sauce. I get it. This is TX style BBQ. It's all about the meat. With that said, I wish TX would learn something from New Mexico about chillies and develop some nuance in their sauce and not give me something that's indistinguishable from Kraft. The sauce here is perfectly passable for what they server in a TX BBQ place. The complaint is with the cuisine. 4 Stars: The Brisket. Amazingly tender and moist. A little fatty and could use a stronger smoke flavor especially as it could be accompanied well by a nice sauce (what they serve should never touch the brisket) or even just some grated horseradish (my plan for the leftovers). 4 Stars: Portion size. I'm a big eater, so I demolish their 1 meat/2 sides. However I have leftovers from a 2 meat/2 sides. All in all pretty happy with the portions. 4- Stars: The pulled pork. Without sauce it needed salt. Really what it needs is sauce, it improved with the house sauce. I wish they'd develop a sauce to match their smoke flavor 4- Stars: Sides: Mac & Cheese - nice real cheddar but nothing exceptional and overly thick noodles. Baked beans - like you remember from camp, no better or worse. Fried Okra - solid but needs ranch or some dipping sauce. Fried Pickles - great example of the dish, however it's an appetizer not a side. Note: Where are the green/non-fried vegs? This is the best bbq I have ever had and the staff is amazing. Second visit here today and drove about an hr just to come here. There pulled pork and brisket is incredible and the Okra was so crispy. Nothing worse then when something is fried and it comes out soggy but not here. Will definitely keep making the trip to eat here even bought a bottle of there bbq sauce and one of the guys through in some extra sauce as well. Can't beat a place that has great comfort food and outstanding service keep it up guys your place is one of a kind. I probably eat here too often but everything is so good. We usually do take out and order on the web. I've even walked there from home to take out. Eating in is just okay but it's typical for a lot of BBQ places: hard, metal chairs, paper towels for napkins, etc. You order at the counter and they slice things and put it on your tray. Don't forget to pick up your cold sides first. I'm a big ribs fan and I get pulled pork frequently. Both are excellent. The latter is more consistent because the ribs can have a bit too much fat at times. Thankfully, those times are rare. I'm not a big brisket fan but it's very good too. I always get beans and potato salad as my sides. I like both. When they first opened, the BBQ sauce was just ok to me. I like things a bit more spicy. Had a great lunch with my bride yesterday. 3 meat tray comes with 4 sides. Brisket, St Louis ribs and smoked turkey. This bbq was fantastic. Smokey, flavorful, and tender. You get sauce on the side that I liked. I'm a saucy guy but wifey likes less sauce mixed with sriracha. Sauce was also on point. Potato salad, baked beans, fries, and Mac n cheese where the sides. I don't live in Gig Harbor, but was in the area for a doctors appointment. This restaurant was just around the corner, so I decided to try it. Wow! Pleasantly surprised and so glad I did. The food was amazing. Walked in and there was a line to order, it went quickly, maybe 10 min. (It was around 5:30) Gave me a chance to look at the menu. I had decided on something they call a bbq banana boat. 2 meats, 2 sides. When it was my turn to order, I asked the gentleman cutting the meats what did he suggest and he asked me how hungry I was, and I said hungry, but not super hungry. He suggested a sandwich, something that I had not really thought of. I ordered the brisket sandwich with a side of potato salad. I'm so glad I did. The sandwich was very filling. The brisket was absolutely delicious cooked perfectly full of flavor portions were terrific and I loved it. I'm very picky on potato salad and the potato salad was very good, a mustard potato salad with plenty of eggs. I had gotten a squirt bottle of barbecue sauce, not sure if I was going to try it or not but so glad I did the barbecue sauce was the perfect amount of sweet and tangy with just a smidge of spice. I loved it the restaurant was clean, and as I was eating more people came in the door, which led to me to believe that this place must be pretty popular and I could see why Are the guys behind the counter or all very friendly and very very nice. After eating my meal I decided I was going to take something home so I stood in line again which I didn't mind and ordered another brisket sandwich but this time I wanted to get more than the potato salad , so I also ordered the beans, and at the last minute I decided to order the mac & cheese firstly because it seem to be very popular, and secondly, because when I saw it been scooped up into the containers, it wasn't sitting in a vat of grease oil or butter, which I dislike. I was buying this meal for somebody else, but now that I would try the sides when I served. I'm so glad I did. The beans were absolutely delicious full of flavor, pieces of brisket and the beans and probably some of the best beans I've had at a barbecue place. The macaroni and cheese was tasty as well. Could've used a smidge of salt, but that's just my personal preference, it was amazing and I would absolutely go back and try the same thing or something different. The prices were very reasonable, considering the cost of eating out skyrocketed since Covid. I would totally recommend this place. The one thing I don't like about trying a barbecue place is the fact that sometimes it seems like the barbecue is on the dry side, but not this barbecue. I only had the brisket, but it was so juicy so flavorful. Perfect. I just can't say enough, how flavorful all the food was. They have a great menu with many many choices and many sides. Wow leave your other Sunday BBQ spot behind. The slow roasted Texas style ribs at BBQ2U will put them all to shame. They have perfect sized kids cup with meat and macaroni and a selection of old style glass sodas. The sauce is a perfect blend of sweet and tangy spice and you get to sauce your own how it should be. My husband got the brisket sandwich great portion and you can add all the fresh onions and pickles you want at the condiment bar. The fried pickles and french fries are yummy. This is some of the best BBQ I've had in the Pacific NW. well done BBQ2U. We will definitely be back again. The brisket was so tender and juicy, the original sausage was flavorful with a crisp bite to the skin, the baked beans were sweet and Smokey, the Mac and cheese was "the best I've had" (per my 8yr old), the fried orca was really good, and the potato salad made you want to build a house with no doors out of it just so you could eat your way out.
