I took my mom for her 58th birthday on a Sunday to have the fried fish. She got one plate, asked for a second and ate all but half a piece of fish. I had clam strips, asked, for a box because we needed to hurry up to our destination, and they said it's not intended to be taken out. It was a half eaten piece of fish! I will NEVER return there! Ordered door dash delivery to my hotel as I am here on a business trip. Not very impressed. The burger was a nice thick patty but has several hard chunks in it. They didn't send sides of mayo, mustard, or ketchup to put on the burger either. I also ordered a mozzarella sticks order, those were actually good. They also didn't have anything to dip the fries in, like ketchup. I also felt like a fatty and ordered a kids order of the mini corn dogs and fries. They were cooked good but again, nothing to dip them in. I probably wouldn't order from here again as there are many other places to give a try. We time warped back to 1975 and went to Beach Pub. Thursday night 6pm and we got the last table before the waiting began fir the next twenty people in the door. Everything here is old school including the beer glasses. We started with hush puppies and oysters Rockefeller witch was just ok with no cheese. Hush puppies were a little under cooked. Dinners we had fried flounder; bones galore. Steamed shrimp; way way way over cooked hard little biscuits of shellfish. Shrimp and scallops dinner really over cooked too and a small portion. Service suffered under the crowded condition, our waitress was super nice and tried to keep up but she was underwater most of the time. Came in at about 30 bucks a piece. Parking was bad. We ate at lots of places this weekend and this is the best so far. We had a smorgasbord of appetizers and grilled Tuna that was perfect, big steamed shrimp, delicious Oysters Rockefeller, creamy crisp potato skins, cheesy stuffed mushrooms and fantastic hush puppies. I ordered take out this evening and the food was sub par, but had the price of a fancy restaurant. The she crab soup had no flavor what so ever and tasted like they added lump crab meat to milk and heated it on the stove. Definitely not worth the 8 dollars it cost. We had to go home, make a rue, add spices and onions to it to even give it flavor(make it edible). Everyone knows that she crab soup comes with oyster crackers but for some reason they gave us a bunch of wheat twins? I'm a local in the area and I would never go to this place again. Save yourself the money. I've had it before, but the inconsistency in quality isn't worth it. The only thing that remains consistent is the buffalo chicken sandwich. read more

Chose this place because of the show diners/drive ins and dives. Man were we disappointed. The special of the night was a pound of steamed shrimp. Totally rubber and barely seasoned. My wife and I both got the seafood platter. Everything came out deep fried which was a disappointment but maybe that's my fault for not asking when I ordered it. The fried shrimp on it were excellent, a heck of a lot better than the shrimp that were on the special. Crab cake came out over fried. Scallops were deep fried where I wished they would have been seared. The oysters and clams were also deep fried which I thought were strange. I Had high expectations for this place but was extremely bummed out. I usually love these little hole in the wall places but was so mad that we wasted our baby sitter on this place. read more

The egg rolls, potato skins and Black Russian sandwich was great, however my fiancé's wasn't supposed to have coleslaw and it did. The crab stuffed mushrooms and crab soup were extremely bland. That big goateed cheeseball Guy Fieri came here a while ago and the episode of his oily forehead, backwards sunglasses televsion show will be airing at the end of October 2011. If you thought the waitstaff was surly, just wait until those poor old gals have to hear "What did Guy order?" 100 times a day. As for the crowd of mostly elderly customers - sure, it could get kinda crowded at some times on some days, but it's gonna get much, much worse. Knuckleheads of all ages will clog up the phone line and parking lot after the episode airs. Every time it airs. For years to come. A note to ALL RESTAURANTS: These days, it's more honorable if you TURN DOWN Mr. Fieri's request to film a segment in your establishment. Simply tell him NO. Whenever I see his autographed poster or spraypainted tag in a restaurant, I want to leave. It ruins everything. Ok... so, let's say it's a beautiful day out and you're hungry. You ask yourself, "Self, why would I go to the Beach Pub over all these other restaurants?" I still don't have a clue. I'll have to go back and view Guy Fieri's endorsement of this place because I'm a little confused. Sure, it's divey and has the potential to be a great local joint. And there were lots of locals when we arrived around 1pm... almost all over the age of 60. Nothing wrong with that, just an observation. Our waitress was pleasant enough and meant well. She took our order and brought out our beverages. The first alert occurred when the sweet tea came out in 12oz cups and continued as we realized that they were serving sweetened tea but not "sweet tea" in the proper sense. Adding sugar to tea does not sweet tea make. And that waitress was going to be making a lot of trips since the cups were only slightly larger than thimbles. Based on Ana M.'s endorsement of the Fried Flounder sandwich, I went with that option with sides of pickled beets and the pepper jack pasta salad. Spouse with with the fish-n-chips special, while the kiddos went with the steak special, BBQ plate special and the popcorn shrimp. After what seemed like an eternity, we had pretty much finished drawing on our placements and began wondering when the food would show up. It eventually arrived and everyone was given their plates, but my flounder sandwich arrived as merely a filet despite my asking the waitress for lettuce, tomato and mayo on it. There was a bit of a delay, but she took the filet back and took about five minutes to return with it placed on a bun with the fixings. It was decent, better than 'meh', but not worth salivating over. and I wouldn't say the amount of fish while sufficient was not phenomenal. The beets were decent (canned?), but the pasta salad was a little below par. Spouse's fish-n-chips arrived with neither lemon nor malt vinegar (none on the table). The breading was a bit bland and while the fish portion was plentiful, it wasn't worth writing home to mother about. The older kids ate all of their steak and BBQ, but my 8-yr-old plucked the shrimp out of the batter and left the batter with the fries. I don't hold that against the place, as she fills quickly. I want to cry because before today I never knew that oysters and scallops could be this good. No seafood here is frozen and rubbery. The cooks know what they are doing and how to source great ingredients. Hold the coctail and tarter sauces because the ingredients stand on their own. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, while remaining unobtrusive. Normally I go out of my way to avoid restaurants that have been featured on DDD because Guy's producers usually only send him to crappy greasejoints, but this place is awesome AND comparitively cheap! read more

My family was on vacation last week at VB and decided to try a restaurant off the boardwalk. We saw this place advertised with D,D, and D having been there and decided to give it a shot. What a mistake! We waited well over a hour for our meal and our waiter couldn't even be heads up enough to bring us something to munch on while we waited for our pretty blah food. My stuffed flounder was full of bones and lacked seasoning; The crab filling was just that... Crab. Nothing else! No seasoning or maybe some peppers, etc... My wife's Crab Cake sandwich? - Not good. Came here with my parents while visiting my extended family. Stopped here on our way into town. Parking stinks if you come during peak hours. There's def not enough parking for the number of people that come here. Ordered the flounder and got it broiled instead of fried. Decent home cooking for a cheap price. Did have a few bones in it, but what fish doesn't? Ordered the collards and broccoli salad as my sides, which everyone was raving out. The ingredients were simple and straight forward. Portions were normal, not heaping. I was still a little hungry when I left. The thing I loved about this place was the people and history. The waitresses were nice and down to earth. We went here because we saw it on Diners Drive-Ins and Dives, and were completely underwhelmed. Below average seafood joint. Definitely not what you'd expect when going to the beach. She-crab soup was way way under-seasoned and bore no resemblance to any other she-crab I've had before. I got a seafood platter to split with my dad and it was under-seasoned and over cooked. The crab cake had no flavor and the flounder was tough. Even the Clam Barco was underwhelming. Also, the "veggie" side selections were slim. There were a few good points, but not enough to make me want to return. The service was good, very friendly and attentive. Added Beach Pub to our list of restaurants to visit when we were in town after seeing it on DDD. We went here on a Tuesday a little after 1, and it wasn't too crowded, and wasn't very welcoming. Our waitress was young and harmless, nice enough. The other waiter was very friendly and helpful. The manager (or who I assumed to be) was helpful but not very warm and friendly. The place was kinda gross, flies were flying everywhere landing on our plate, and like another reviewer said, I was afraid to touch the bottom of the table. The plates were old and dingy, like school lunch trays. My boyfriend said the bathroom was disgusting and almost made him vomit. The food wasn't great, not even close. We ordered the crab dip as an app, which was probably Top 2 crab dip I've ever had in my life (minus the awkward sheet of melted cheese on top). It comes with packages of crackers, which was different, since I'm accustomed to having it served with bread. We both ordered the rockfish sandwich with fries and macaroni salad for me, potato salad for him. You get two big pieces of fish on the sandwich and it looks amazing and it was hot! I thought it was flavorless and "bland" (as others have described), my boyfriend thought it was good. The fries seemed old, were definitely not hot. They were probably good when they were fresh. The macaroni salad wasn't good, I tried adding salt and it didn't help. It was VERY heavy on relish and mustard. My boyfriend didn't eat the potato salad while we were there, so I can't comment on that. The food came out pretty quickly. We've tried maybe 6 or 7 new places this year, and this was our first miss. We agreed immediately afterwards that we wouldn't be returning. Prices weren't bad at all, spent around $30 on the crab dip, two fish sandwiches, 2 drinks and 4 sides. Had to keep asking for items and drink refills. Fish was nothing special and mine had Major pin bones. Fried had some bones too. Got salad and baked potato, nothing special. Solid 4 stars. Actual location is definitely dive. The food was really good and not what I anticipated after reading the reviews. The she crab had a very crab flavor and the paprika added a very good smoky taste. The portions were large and it was very inexpensive! We went for lunch. The fried rockfish sandwich was good and the fish flavor shined right through. The clam strips were a tad salty. The French fries though, were awesome! I used to love this place until a few years back. I usually ordered the steamed shrimp but decided on chicken fingets. Supposed to be bonelest I bit down and they were not. I lost a ftont tooth which shifted all of the others to the point where they came away from the bone. Service was fantastic and friendly. I really like their map showing all the different places their guests were from. The atmosphere or general looks of the place could be worked on. Husband had fish and chips and they weren't skimpy pieces of fish that you get as some places. Being relatively new to the VB area, we decided to try a new (to us, anyway) local spot for dinner. Beach Pub didn't disappoint. Our server couldn't have been nicer as she walked us through the menu and made suggestions. On her (and Guy Fieri's) recommendation, we tried the Fish Hash, which was very good, and the Pepper Jack Pasta Salad was awesome! And everything was reasonably priced.
