The Beach Pub is a nice little lunch spot and the service was good. Guy Fieri has had this on his show Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives on the food network. They serve you nice size portions, but I will say I wasn't crazy for the sandwich I had or the macaroni salad, maybe I ordered the wrong thing because I will tell this place was packed, so they obviously are good. It was neat to visit and I would give it a second chance for sure!!

Clams topped with bacon and garlic. And drawn butter.

This is a homey dive in every sense of the word. You have a bar in the back with a good supply of locals enjoying each other's stories and tv's. Up front is the dining room, very dated, but that was ok, it all fit together. I ordered something I had not had before...clams with garlic and bacon. It was really good and gone too fast. The drawn butter was petfect with this dish. My only comment was to wish the bacon was crisper. The service was excellent, just the right amount.

The last time I gave The Beach Pub a review it was not a good one. As we walked out because we never got helped. We decided after some time to give them another try. The difference was night and day. 180 degree turnaround. Greeted as soon as we walked in the door. We sat down menus were right there. In just minutes a waitress was there to get our drink order and asked if we questions and explained the specials for the afternoon. This was a 100% better experience.

After a full day, my wife and I decided on visiting the beach pub for our dinner. With only a few days to spend in the area I am so happy we chose this place over others. We sat at the bar while having college games on the TVs. It brought back so many wonderful memories. Our bartender made a wonderful Manhattan for me and a cocktail for my wife. For our main courses, my wife decided on the lasagna special while I ordered their shrimp and crab dinner. Our meals came out relatively quickly. My shrimp and crab was absolutely delicious with wonderful hush puppies! My wife enjoyed a lasagna as well it was huge and delicious. If you're in the area, you will not be disappointed, trying the beach pub!

Coast Guard memorabilia inside the restaurant

My family and I stopped by the Beach Pub while we were visiting VAB because my grandfather helped open the restaurant years ago before he passed. Since the last time we had visited (~20 years ago), quite a bit has changed and we were a little disappointed. There is quite a bit of coast guard/surf and rescue/military memorabilia inside the restaurant that pays tribute to my family's heritage which is a nice touch. However, we sat outside in a large booth that rocked back and forth, and the environment was pretty loud due to road/air noise. My family ordered the Barco Clams to share (clams, garlic, bacon, but they were just meh), and my dad and I split the 1 lb of shrimp which was the daily special - there is no way I would've been able to eat all of the shrimp by myself (huge portion!). We added a side of potato salad to our meal which was a little smaller than what I was expecting, so the side was hard to share. Most of the food tasted great. Our waitress was lovely and really tried her best to be attentive during the evening since she told us the restaurant was pretty busy inside. We were in no rush to leave, but if you needed to get in and out quickly, you may have had some trouble with the service.

Great food, would have been 5 stars....but....they play Fox News in the bar! Not the kind of misinformation I want to eat to. Period.

Outstanding food! We…read morewent in for breakfast and I'm so glad we did. The service was outstanding and the food even better. I got the shrimp and grits and it was absolutely amazing. So many quality ingredients for the price. I also got their sweet biscuit and you can taste that everything is homemade. We also got their biscuit smothered in gravy. The biscuit was also homemade. Everything was amazing here and I can't recommend this place enough. Also, the bar looks amazing with lots of drink specials. They do add an 18% gratuity in all checks. This would normally be a problem for me as service is hot and miss at some places. But, the device was amazing and every one of the servers help out and take care of the patrons.

Brilliant idea. The hostess took our name and phone number and we received a txt when our table was ready. The hostess was very friendly and attentive. The ambiance was amazing. Since it is mainly a seafood restaurant the aesthetic was ocean or bay themed. They had great decorations of coral reef and other things found in the ocean around the restaurant. They had a great seating area for patrons who were waiting for a table. The service was impeccable. Our waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Since it was our first time at this restaurant we were unsure about what we should order. She gave great suggestions. We ordered the fried oysters, oyster burger, and shrimp with vegetables and eggs. We also ordered a pineapple crush and the localizer. The food was very flavorful and fresh. The oyster burger was very unique it had a fried oyster on top of the patty which was great. It was cooked to perfection and very juicy. The fried oysters were great as well. They came with Pita bread and spinach dip to make an oyster sandwich. Amazing!!! The drinks were on point as well. They weren't too strong but they weren't weak either. I recommend trying out this restaurant if you are in the area. It is totally worth the wait.

They tried to help with the parking issues, 5 spaces for an entire restaurant is not enough, plus the only handicap spot is not accessible for a van. My entire family of 6 were sat right away and orders taken rather fast. I decided I wanted a waffle but also needed protein. I knew I wouldn't eat much of the waffle but my 11 year old twins would gladly polish it off, so no since I'm getting the two mini waffles and paying the extra $2 per topping. I opted for a side order of two eggs and sausage patties. The order arrived minus my waffle. I was assured it was coming right out. I waited and waited. I had also split my eggs and sausage with my older daughter as her waffle did not come with protein and I knew she would get a headache without eating protein. After all my kids were done eating and my husband only had two bites of his pancakes left, I saw the hostess walk out of the kitchen with the same waffles I ordered. She was acting strangely and slide the waffles behind the bin full of silverware to wrap. She kept looking around and then slid into the booth and started eating away but trying to hide what she was doing. Our server saw her and confronted her. She pointed at our table and the hostess just shrugged and put another huge bite in her mouth. Our server went to her supervisor who then promptly came to us to let us know my waffle was coming, a slight delay in the kitchen. Now the restaurant is almost empty at this point. Why lie. I saw the whole debacle go down with the hostess. My husband even pointed it out and the supervisor replied with oh no, we had two orders in for the same waffle. Really! It's been almost 30 minutes and my food didn't come out. Really! I informed her I was done and no longer wanted the waffle. The server brought it out a few minutes later, and informed I wasn't being charged for the waffle. I had her box it up as I was done and paying. I never ate the waffle, we had drove over an hour to try this place. I won't go back. The food was subpar and nothing to rave about. It's just sad that they have a hostess who wants to shove food in her mouth and staff who are not honest. I will just continue to enjoy the hospitality and great food at Not Another Pancake House in Williamsburg where people always have a smile and care about their customers.

It is fully shaded which was nice considering we had some young kids with us. Service staff was very attentive and knowledgeable. I'd encourage them to be more targeted when describing some recommendations on the menu, she simply listed about the entire menu she asked "what are some of your favorites". Drinks were delivered very fast by the bartender. 2nd rounds were offered prior to the drinks being empty which shows good serving habits. The serving portions were very plentiful and played very well on the brunch theme! Burger was cooked medium well but still very juicy with a delicious mayo based sauce. The chicken and biscuit was juicy and the biscuit was flaky and delicious. It would have served the dish well TJ have a little more syrup. I also loved the unique hash tots. I was simply visiting from out of state so I won't return, but I'd encourage you to! They are also included on Resy so be sure to book there or use a Resy credit if you have it!

HISTORY ON AN ONION ROLL | THE EYE OPENER CONTINUES TO TEMPT TASTEBUDS, DECADES LATER…read more By Patrick Evans-Hylton For decades, the Belvedere Hotel was more than a place to stay. It was a familiar presence along the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, a backdrop for everyday rituals and seaside routines. Tucked inside was the Belvedere Coffee Shop & Diner, a true neighborhood constant since opening in 1969. It was where mornings began with hot coffee and friendly nods, where breakfast and lunch meant dependable comfort, and where the pace of the beach slowed just enough to savor it. When the Belvedere was torn down, it felt like losing a quietly important piece of the Oceanfront's collective memory. That sense of memory carries forward at Belvedere South inside the tony Moxy Virginia Beach Oceanfront hotel. The new space honors the past without freezing it in time. Bright blue walls set against crisp white instantly recall the diner's cheerful spirit. Large windows allow light to flood the space. Cushy banquettes are a comfortable welcome, inviting you to settle in and linger. The menu stays true to its roots with classic breakfast and lunch dishes that feel familiar and reassuring. Anchoring it all is the legendary Eye Opener sandwich, returned to its rightful place as both signature and symbol. In this new setting, the Belvedere legacy lives on, refreshed but recognizable, a reminder that some traditions deserve to be carried forward with care and confidence. The Eye Opener remains the heart of the menu, and one bite explains its legend. A perfectly fried egg anchors the sandwich, its yolk just rich enough to soften the layers beneath. From a choice of bacon, sausage, or ham, we chose the latter; each brings its own salty, savory character. Melted cheese binds everything together, draping the egg and meat in comfort. All of it is tucked into a lightly toasted onion roll that adds a gentle sweetness and just enough bite to stand up to the fillings. Chef Ray Ray Labuen, who wore the tall toque at the former Belvedere, is closely tied to the Eye Opener its careful steward. Then there are the tomatoes, the detail that elevates the whole affair. Thick slices are grilled, seasoned lightly, and finished with a generous snowfall of parmesan cheese. As they cook, the tomatoes soften and turn luscious while the cheese melts and lightly browns, creating a savory crust that clings to the fruit. They are warm, juicy, and deeply flavorful, adding richness and balance to the sandwich. It is indulgent without being heavy, familiar yet special, and exactly the kind of dish that earns its name at the Oceanfront. We also enjoyed rich, creamy grits and a damn fine cup of coffee. Service was exceptional. - I've been covering the cuisine scene in Coastal Virginia and beyond for 30-plus years, and have dined out at thousands and thousands times. I base my scores on the SAVORY system, which attributes values to six distinct attributes: Service, Ambiance, Value, Offerings, Repeatability, and Sensory Experience. That translates to 1 star = 59 or below ; 2 stars = 60 - 69 ; 3 stars = 70-79 ; 4 stars = 80-89 ; and 5 stars = 90 or above. Based on that, this restaurant receives my 5 star rating. This is based on a visit on Jan. 7, 2026 - I'm a Johnson & Wales-trained chef reporting on food and foodways in print (magazines, The Virginian-Pilot), television (morning shows, Food Network, WTKR TV-3), radio (PBS, AM 790 WNIS), and more. More about me at VirginiaEatsAndDrinks.com

The restaurant has a great oceanfront location and the food was good, but our experience was significantly impacted by how staff handled my service dog. We initially sat outside, but constant biting flies made it difficult to enjoy our meal, so we moved inside. Shortly afterward, an assistant manager approached us and attempted to remove us because of my service dog. My dog was clearly identifiable as a service animal, quietly lying at my feet, fully under control, and not bothering anyone. As a Disabled Veteran, I should not have had to explain ADA service animal laws in order to eat breakfast. The burden should not fall on guests to educate restaurant management about federal disability protections. What should have been a happy and memorable morning before my wedding became stressful and upsetting. The issue was eventually resolved, and we were allowed to remain, but only after I had to advocate for my legal rights. Because of that experience, we chose not to return to dine inside the restaurant for the remainder of our stay. The food and location were good, but the lack of service animal awareness by management seriously detracted from the experience. I strongly recommend additional ADA and service animal training for all staff so future guests do not experience the same treatment.
