Fantastic meal in the heart of the Riviera Attended a private dinner party at the Beachlife Grotto. The entire downstairs seating area and bar, including a moderate sized private room were reserved. The place is a bit cramped and very loud. Open bar with servers handed out drinks directly or delivered to your table. Dinner included hangar steak and halibut. The steak was tender, medium rare--just how I like it. It came with rice and broccolini which were also good. The halibut looked appetizing but was a bit dry. However, the dish redeemed itself by having a squash risotto to die for. Crispy Brussels sprouts were cooked perfectly and had a tinge of sweetness. All portions were sizable. Dessert was a mixed bag. The key lime tarts weren't too sweet and were indeed very tart. The cookies were fluffy and soft but were too bready like a muffin. There is an upstairs deck and gift shop. The only two bathrooms are upstairs. Service was good, nothing to complain about there. Parking is metered wherever you can find it. Overall, a very positive dining experience just 2 blocks from the beach and plenty of other eateries nearby. Will definitely be back read more

Gosh I'm bummed to write this review. The last time I ate here - it was a fantastic experience. That's why I brought my mom and sister yesterday for lunch. We were quick to be sat - but it pretty much went downhill after that. To be fair - it seemed busier than last time - but that's not really our problem. We ordered our food and sis ordered a glass of wine. Then we waited. And waited. And....... waited. They didn't even bring sis her wine while we waited. Not great. Over 25 minutes later - still no food and no silverware or napkins. Finally the food appeared (the wine finally arrived only shortly before our food). We then just sat there staring at our food - wondering how to eat it without silverware. I flagged a guy - who said he'd bring us some. We waited and waited. So finally my sis went over to the bar and grabbed 3 sets of silverware off of other plates so we could eat! 10 minutes later - the guy returns with silverware. Really?? All that said - the food was super delicious - just like last time. It was the only redeeming quality though - because then we waited and waited to get our check. Finally I had to go inside the restaurant (we were sitting on the patio) and literally grab a waiter to get our check so we could move on with our day. He said that they only had one server that day and apologized for the delay. I get it and stuff happens - but again - it's Sunday on the 4th of July weekend and you know you are going to have crowds- so figure it out. Lastly - to be fair - our waiter (who had the cutest pair of google eye sunglasses on) was very cool and accommodating when we needed the umbrella adjusted. It's just that we never saw him again. This is a fairly new restaurant, located right next door to Rockefeller. So it's in the Riviera Village. They are normally open in the afternoons during the week, but open in the mornings on the weekends for brunch. There are tables indoors and outdoors. Because it looked a little crowded indoors, I chose a table outdoors. They don't offer any specialty coffees, only drip. So I ordered one of those, with a side of oat milk, and an avocado toast. The toast actually tasted better than it looks. Looks pretty boring, but tasted good. It's more of a bar that serves food than a restaurant. The list of cocktails is longer than the brunch menu. Restrooms are upstairs, along with a general store where they sell merchandise. They also have additional, rooftop dining. If you don't want to take the stairs, there are elevators. Service was good and staff were friendly. I plan to return and try a cocktail next time. read more

This restaurant has a great location. Located right on Catalina in the heart of the Riviera Village, this place has easy access to the beach, the Esplanade, and/or the shops around the village. The structure was completely redesigned for this restaurant. It used to be just a very average shop, now has become a very nice architecturally designed building. They have a great outdoor patio space both on the first floor and on the upper patio, as well as very nice interior dining. The design of this restaurant and its location are truly two of the high points of this business. What are the main elements of this establishment is it is designed to cater to the bar crowd. They have a very large bar on the lower level which offers a lot of interesting drinks. In addition, they have a limited food menu that is pretty wide spanning in what they offer. Plus, on Saturday and Sunday they offer 10:00 AM brunch. The one downside I find about this restaurant, is that I don't know if they use a limited staff or just the servers are overwhelmed by the customers, but sometimes service can be fairly slow at this place. If they give you a drink, and you're sitting back and enjoying it, this really isn't a big deal. But, on the other hand, if you're starving and are looking forward to eating a meal or something, this could be just a bit of a problem. Just something to keep in mind. Overall, this is a fun new addition to the village. Great place to sit back and have a drink or an interesting meal. read more

This restaurant is very much just okay! Not great, but I wouldn't necessarily it's terrible. All the restaurants in the riviera are a good experience because of the location however some are much better than others. I wouldn't recommend this one as one of the better options. First, the staff feels unorganized. Two servers came up to my date and I asking what we wanted to drink after we already ordered. This was while we were seated at a table we made a reservation for. Secondly, the menu is small. There is not a lot of options for entrees if you come here hungry. Personally, I didn't like the menu. We got an appetizer so we didn't appear rude and went over to Rebel Republic across the street to order our dinner afterwards. Third, the upstairs isn't comfortable. Some seating is comfortable if you get a couch, but the tables aren't at all. And no heaters were available despite is being freezing. As for the music, it was playing on a small speaker in the corner quietly. I felt like I was in someone's backyard. This place is new, and the two-story display viewing from the outside looks like it would be one of the best options for drinks and dinner on the riviera. I would suggest to look elsewhere like Riveria across the street. BeachLife is not what I expected. Lastly, I will say the country bread and Brussel sprouts are good! The food here isn't bad. But considering all else, I just don't think I'll be back. read more

We stopped by BeachLife Grotto around 3pm on a Saturday and caught their happy hour (3-5pm), which was a great way to get introduced to this restaurant - a solid menu of $5 and $10 items that actually feels worth ordering from. We started with the bread, which was excellent and easily one of the highlights. Warm, soft on the inside, and nicely toasted on the outside, it had that comforting balance of crisp edges and pillowy interior, and it was presented thoughtfully. From there we shared a mix of happy hour items: brussels sprouts, truffle fries, beef sticks, a Caesar salad, and my friend ordered the burger. Everything landed well for the price point. The brussels sprouts stood out - nicely crisped with good flavor - and the beef sticks were well grilled and satisfying. The burger was solid - your typical burger, but definitely good value - and the truffle fries were exactly what you want during happy hour. I also had a glass of white wine off the happy hour menu, which paired nicely with the food. What really pulled it all together was the vibe. It was lightly raining when we went, so the patio wasn't an option, but inside felt cozy and inviting. Jazz music was playing in the background, the service was friendly and on point, and the space itself is small but thoughtfully set up. It felt relaxed, welcoming, and easy to settle into. It definitely made me curious to come back and try more of the regular menu next time. Huge shout out to Sarina and Jedediah for taking care of my husband, myself and our small daughter for my husband's birthday dinner! Back in the summer of 2024 we had a small incident which led us to not be able to enjoy our time at beachlife as we had to leave early. We have been meaning to come back ever since and we finally did this past month! We sat on the rooftop, which is absolutely gorgeous. Great views of the PV Hill and very relaxing beach vibes up there! We ordered many things, but a few callouts to what we enjoyed the most. The sourdough bread starter is really delicious, we enjoyed our Mai Tai cocktails as well! For a main, you cannot go wrong with the Bronzino. It was absolutely divine! We ate, drink, and relaxed for a few hours on the patio, and we were well taken care of and never rushed. The staff is very warm and welcoming, the vibe is trendy and definitely gives you the feeling as if you're on vacation. Tried this place on a whim on a Friday night because there was no wait. We were seated on the rooftop at the couches in front of a fireplace. Comfy, cozy, beachy... perfect! The waitstaff was fantastic in terms of friendliness and knowledge of the menu. As for the food/drinks, I loved the halibut, tuna crudo, and fried whole snapper. The espresso martini was also on point. Highlight of the night, though, was the host, Michael. My kids absolutely loved him and kept going downstairs to say hi to him and give him high fives. Went here for a nice evening out , was seated outside near heat lamp and protected by some plants but it was a little chilly even with my long wool coat on. But that was minor compared to the great time we had , Michael warmly greeted us and sat us quickly , Trevor came by to make sure all was well and our server came by to check on us all within a few minutes . We ordered drinks , and a different server brought them out , which showed to me that the team working there all support each other and help each other out. We ordered the sourdough bread that was phenomenal ,it remained hot even when we were sitting outside , the crust was crisp and the inside was so light and fluffy . Then we had a beet and arugula salad , also amazing as it was made with 3 different variations of beets . It was so unique in the way it was presented. Last we had salmon , grilled, not knowing it would be "Ala carte " , literally . No garnish, on a small salad plate , just a grilled piece of salmon it was almost comical . We went to Beachlife a few weekends ago on a Friday night. We were seated immediately, which I guess should have been my first clue. It took quite a bit for us to get a server and when we did, we were ready to order. Once we ordered it took 30 minutes for us to get our drinks and more than 45 minutes to get our food. What really made the service abysmal was that the table next to us was seated 15 minutes after we got there. I don't know when they ordered but they got their food before we did. When they were done eating, the general manager, waiter, and some other person came to their table to profusely thank them for their patience in waiting for their food. They offered them a free dessert on the house. This happened at the table next to us where we got to the restaurant before this couple, ordered before this couple and did not recieve our drinks or food until after this couple left. Needless to say, we were not offered any apolgies nor any dessert, let alone free dessert. I don't know what motivated this disparity in service but, I will not be returning to this restaurant and if you want customer service as part of your dining experience, you shouldn't go to Beachlife. read more

My date and I struggled to cut one of the pieces in half because of how chewy it was. The salmon sliders were meh, bread was soggy and it just didn't have any great flavor or texture in it. Brussel Sprouts were soft. However I really enjoyed the sauce that was served at the bottom of the plate. Swordfish tacos were actually the best value. $22 and you get 2 very generously sized tacos filled with lots of swordfish. My date took one bite and said it was too fishy. I actually didn't mind that and enjoyed them for the most part. This newest restaurant in the area is very laid back pretty looking with a relaxing beach vibe. Went for dinner with friends and we ordered some delicious cocktails and food. 1. For the apps, we got a dozen oysters and California bluefin tuna crudo. Both dishes were so fresh and delicious. The tuna crudo came with some avocado on top which blended perfectly to create some unique delicious flavor. It went well with the cocktails we ordered. 2. For the main course: my friend loved her brick chicken and I tried the sea bass which was good and flaky. I ordered the New York strip. The presentation was pretty and appealing but I think it was lack a bit flavor. I should have sticked with the seafood menu. The bread and asparagus for the table were tasty and everyone enjoyed it. For the dessert, we ordered some Peruvian picarones (donuts version of Peruvian) and some cake with strawberries. I enjoyed the cake better than the picarones. Stopped by BeachLife Grotto for the first time and already know I'll be back--definitely adding this to my local rotation. Jebadiah and Ryan were mad welcoming and pulled me in off Catalina Ave like I'd been coming here for years. The vibe? Think seaside beach club. I didn't eat this time (though the food looked and smelled amazing), but the BeachLife Old Fashioned? Wow. Ryan recommended it--rich rum (including their own), fig, amaro, and bitters. Wow! ... WOW!! I'm not much of a "reviewer," but I HAD to say something about this place. Our experience started with Trevor, the GM (owner?). Trevor had the most welcoming and professional demeanor you could ask for. His genuine personality made us feel like we've been regulars from day one. The friends we brought from out of town couldn't stop raving about the service, atmosphere, and eventual food (brussels sprouts; Trevor's recommendation) that we've come to expect. No only did Trevor and the attentive staff give us a detailed breakdown of the drinks and food they offered that evening, but our amazing waiter, and that evening's chef, went above and beyond to ensure that even the "lightest" food sensitivities, my wife has, were accommodated for. 10/10 will recommend!! -- and can't wait to bring more friends!! read more
