Better check any quote from Beacon with another contractor. I have an 11 year old Trane furnace that was out. I called Beacon because they had done an emergency condensate pump replacement for the furnace. They indicated the inducer motor was out and it would be 3-4 weeks and $2,600 to replace the inducer motor, or replace the furnace for $7,500. I then called All-ways Air Control of Tacoma who was the original installer and has done normal servicing. All-Ways was able to replace the inducer motor in 1 day for $800. But, after review, All-ways fixed the problem by replacing the capacitor for $25 plus their normal servicing. I would not trust Beacon as it looks like they like to upsell for items you don't need. read more

What started out as a very stressful situation for us - getting a notice that we had a water leak in our supply line to the house (which was over 600 ft and we weren't even sure where it was run to start looking for a leak) - was handled by Giovanni and his team promptly, with care, and with high quality. Giovanni was able to identify the leak and gave us several options - patching the broken the pipe, replacing a leg, or replacing the whole thing - helping us make the best choice for our situation and budget. It was inside the wall and I didn't want to take a chance with a possible fire, so I called up Beacon. It was a Saturday evening but I didn't expect to pay $1000 to fix a nipped write. With that said, after fixing the issue, it kept tripping three circuit. I had to call them back twice, however I must say they were quick to comer out. I should have known to walk away when the guy working in the call center said he couldn't tell me how much it would be to do an annual maintenance (no repairs) on my hot water boiler for my radiator system. In any case two plumbers, who seemed somewhat befuddled by my set up, came out and promptly quoted me ~$400 for the annual service (about 2x what my previous, retired unfortunately plumber charged). As they were there and I already had to pay a $80 visit fee I said go ahead. So I guess they cleaned it BUT managed to leave it turned off/in an error code after their service. I left for the weekend and the temperature plunged into the 50s in my house by the time I got back. I pushed the reset button (ie about 30 seconds of work) and now it's online again. Maybe these guys are great if it's an emergency but I would stay far, far away if you have time to find someone else. read more

I have to give them at least 2 stars because 1) They arrived after hours on tie and 2) fixed the immediate urgent issue of our sewer clog. Beyond that, dealing with them was a mess. They couldn't complete the entire job which was to hydro-jet the main cause of the issue being a single root ball. Told me to call back in the morning to schedule another crew. Fair enough. Called the next day and got a new crew out. I may as well have been a entirely different customer as they had no idea of the previous work done to locate the blockage and complete the work. Quoted me the full rate of $1200 for the whole sewer line even though they already used a camera to locate a single root that needed to be removed 5 feet from the cleanout so I sent them home. Called customer service to explain they didn't complete the previous work only to listen to the guy explain to me how he's been in the business decades and had no interest in completing the work for any less than the full rate even though the problem was already located and identified by their previous crew. When I told him I could easily find someone else he immediately suggested I do just that and I did. Afterward I told him I'd be writing a bad review because of his lack of being reasonable. Found another company that was happy to to the limited-scope work next day for $499 (not the $1200 Beacon demanded) Make sure you do your pricing homework and work with a crew that willing to negotiate within reasonable circumstances! *update. The reply from Rea is not accurate. I never asked for free service. Had they listened to the call I even said that. Also, I mentioned I'd was going to leave a bad review because when I told them I would find someone who should only do the ONE rootball they already identified for much less and he told me to go do that. My bad review was not based on not getting free service. My bad review was because the service manager quickly dismissed me by saying I should go elsewhere. Our pool heater died and I needed to replace ASAP. I contacted several companies and most couldn't come out anytime soon. Beacon (Gio) came out same day to diagnose the problem and determined that the boiler needed to be replaced (which was very obvious after seeing the corrosion on the bottom once it was dismantled). I ordered a new heater and scheduled them to come back the day after it was supposed to arrive. It actually arrived early and they moved up the installation with just a few hours notice. We called Friday night and asked if someone could come out to fix our tankless hot water system. It was installed poorly, and had never worked well. Giovanni showed up and identified faulty interior components, and suggested the cost to fix it would not be worth the units cost. We discussed upgrading to a better tankless system. Giovanni wrote us up a quote and we were given about 10% off our final price with him. He came out early today, and after several hours of work we have hot water again, and a system that's guaranteed to work for 20 years. After fighting with the old one for the last few years I'm really happy with the work Giovanni and Bryant did today. They're coming back next week to install a descaler so we can save some money and time on maintenance costs in the future while also protecting our new tankless system. Feel free to pay double if you derive satisfaction from using a celebrity-endorsed plumbing company. Thankfully we got a second bid from another, trustworthy company, so we had the same work done for $5,500 rather than the $11,000 that Beacon was going to charge. Beacon diagnosed a backup in our sewer line. After spending about 15 minutes looking for a cleanout in our garage and elsewhere, the Beacon plumber recommended that he resolve the issue by accessing the pipe in our crawlspace. But he said he would need to disconnect part of the pipe to run the snake/camera, and it could be messy. $1440 later, Beacon found the problem near the sidewalk and recommended excavating six feet deep to replace up to 10 feet of our sewer line and installing a double cleanout at that location. How much? Nearly $11,000 plus tax. And the Beacon method to access the pipe did indeed create a mess, which we needed to have cleaned up by another company. The Beacon plumber said they could perform the $11,000 job the next morning. Although I was feeling desperate, I knew enough to get a second bid. I called Done Right Plumbing because I had used them before and found them trustworthy. Done Right Plumbing fit us into their busy schedule and diagnosed the problem in fifteen minutes after immediately locating a cleanout in the crawlspace to access the sewer line. I have no idea why Beacon didn't find or use that cleanout, which I quickly found after Done Right Plumbing left. Done Right Plumbing located the source of the problem and recommended the same solution that Beacon did: excavate six feet deep to replace part of the sewer line and install a double cleanout at that location. The price? $5,500 -- one half of Beacon's price. Done Right Plumbing performed the work early the next morning and solved the problem. I expected Beacon to be a little higher given its advertising expenses and other overhead, but double the price? Sheesh. Thankfully I didn't panic, turned elsewhere, and saved $6,000 (including tax). Two technicians came as scheduled, replaced both the connectors and the extension tank. They were courteous and friendly, the job was done in about an hour. I posted about a year ago about a gas leak. I guess Beacon had them take it off. They sent out an employee to give an estimate. He showed up for about 10 min. With out doing anything said it would be 4000. Just to find it not including repairs. Called a different company they came out the next day capped all the gas pipes pressurized all the pipes and found it and fixed it. Inspector came out and passed all the work. We were up and going the following day. They will say they know nothing about it. I didn't. I called the number for 'Leak Masters' but they answered the phone as Beacon Plumbing. It turns out Leak Masters is a subsidiary of Beacon Plumbing. Documenting what followed to hopefully help the business owner. I already had a plumber who told me he couldn't help because he didn't know where the leak was without tearing the concrete of my garage up. Not ideal. So that's why I called Leak Masters, who theoretically specialize in this (e.g. with 'ground penetrating radar'). I was given a window of noon to 3 but ~3 I was called and politely asked if I could wait a while as the Tech was running late. No problem. At 5, I had to call back and make sure they were still coming. They confirmed. At 5:30 I got a call from the Tech to whom I explained 'I have a leak in a pipe somewhere under my garage, I need your help to pin point it' to which I was advised they do not do that and I should cancel the visit. (leaving me stuck with no running water yet another day) I called and got someone who sounded quite harried who put me on hold. I explained the situation and thanked them for their try, but I need a leak detection service, not a plumber. They said they'd cancel it. Then 5 minutes later, I got a call from the rep who called me ~3 saying I should let their guy come out and take a look anyways. I explained the situation again, that it wouldn't make any sense. I didn't need my garage torn up, I needed to know WHERE in the garage we needed to cut. Then the Tech called me saying the office told him to call. He pushed his services yet again and so I had to ask him 'What sense does it make to have a plumber come out when we don't know where to even dig? I already HAVE this information.' So, like many other online reviews, it seems they're VERY aggressive on forcing sales and not focused on customer service. When I called, a representative said they charge $75 to send someone to the residence, but that they don't give pricing over the phone. When I said no work would be done, I was simply requesting an inspection, and if there was a flat/standard fee for that, the representative said a technician would make up the price on the spot. After I declined, the representative gave me attitude, as if he couldn't understand why I wouldn't accept his terms. I asked what the "normal rate" was and the gentleman on the phone $75. Upon arrival, the technician said it $389 to do his "diagnostic" assessment. We called Beacon over the weekend because we had an outdoor hose spigot in an enclosed patio which would not stop leaking. James came out same day - great response time - but he was incredibly unprofessional. He took around 30 seconds to look at the hose spigot. He didn't even go to into the patio to take a closer look, he just looked at it from over the fence, tried to turn the hose off and on (which didn't work because it's broken), and he immediately jumped to the conclusion that he needed to open up our drywall and perform a very expensive repair. He did not try anything else first, did not attempt to disassemble the spigot to investigate. Just looked and quoted a repair nearing a grand. I declined the repair, paid over a hundred dollars for the privilege of his quick and ineffective visit, called a competitor, and that competitor was able to repair it quickly and cheaply since they actually investigated and found a simpler fix. read more

Riding the line between fraud and extortion. My water heater stopped working while I was out of town. It's showing 7 blue flashes which indicates the presence of dangerous fumes. There's an easy reset that has worked in the past, when I painted and varnished some wood nearby, but that wasn't working for me. I could smell gas. I probably should have just called the gas company. I was curious about the technician's ethical approach, so I reported that my tank was 12 years old when it is only 4. Rather than point out my mistake, he explained that I needed a new heater repeatedly, right up until I pointed at its mfg date clearly visible on the label. Then he said I need a mixer valve and used legalese to explain how "RCW" meant "Revised Code of Washington", not just implying but explaining that my home is out of code and couldn't be resold. I said "I don't need that" and he said "you definitely need it." He reinforced his lie with stories of people getting scalded to death. Go read RCW 19.27A.060 for yourself if you want to see the complete lack of support his claims have. Then he said I needed a vapor sensor. If it wasn't working, the simple reset command would have worked and endangered me. He said it's a one-use item. It isn't, I've reset it before. By this point, I just assumed that everything he said was false. I've rarely been lied to so completely and consistently. The only thing he didn't offer to do is to repair the gas supply which was very mildly corroded and maybe leaking a tiny bit, just enough to trigger the sensor. I bought a new sensor on Amazon for $30, just in case. He wanted hundreds. In the end, 10 minutes of labor and 12 inches of pipe cost me about $600. His original estimate was about 10 times as much. Don't let these guys near your elderly parents or they'll need a loan to pay the bill. Fox Plumbing did the original install, and I'll be calling them next time. read more
