I came by for a quick lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the food and nice cafe ambiance here. Cafe RX is tucked away in the Tides Center in the heart of the Presidio and while it's a bit hidden, it's a solid lunch spot if you're walking around and need a fast casual yet surprisingly affordable meal. I got the nicoise salad which was great and refreshing after a long walk around the bay in the warm sun. The portion was generous and I loved the mix of spring lettuce, green beans, tuna, and potato wedges. The sauce was yummy and added a lot of flavor without being too heavy. Overall great salad for $13 and it did feel like a full meal with healthy protein and starches. The sandwich actually had a decent amount of ham in it and the cheese was melted. The bread was a Dutch crunch roll but it was soft, so overall a decent sandwich. We were looking for a place for lunch after visiting the Walt Disney Museum and saw Cafe RX on Yelp. It's tucked away behind a building in the Presidio, mostly catering to the people working in the nearby offices. You order at the counter and find a place to sit. The woman taking our order was really nice and told us that if we paid with cash, she'd give us a couple of drinks and a cookie. Needless to say, we paid with cash and tipped (for which she seemed super grateful). There's indoor seating, which is somewhat charmless, and outdoor seating. We sat indoors since it was a little chilly and windy outside. The food was much better than I expected, especially given the reasonable price point. I got a tuna melt ($9.95), which didn't look like what I expected, but had carrots and celery in the tuna salad (which was pretty tasty) and came with an organic green salad. My daughter got the chicken caesar with provolone cheese sandwich ($10.95), made with free-range chicken and served with organic mixed greens. My husband got a shrimp ceviche $12.50), one of the daily specials. Everything tasted really fresh and it felt like the food was made with love. We even got a bowl of avocado on the side gratis (it was close to closing before the weekend, so maybe they were trying to give it a good home - either way, it was appreciated). This is not a destination restaurant but definitely a good place for breakfast or lunch if you're in the area and are looking for a bite to eat. It's no exaggeration to say the Cafe RX is the heart of the Tides Center. Centrally located, it usually plays some sort of role in everyone's day if it involves Tides Converge or any tenancy or meeting in the Tides complex. The food is fresh, generally organic, and well prepared. Delicious! Service is prompt and courteous and the line moves surprisingly quickly. The ambiance is part of, and an extension of Tides, featuring artwork from tenants or people working with the tenants. It's really lovely to sit outside on a sunny day. Went here after going to the Palace of Fine Arts. It's a very peaceful cafe with plenty of seating. The customer service was very friendly and the food came out quickly. I ordered a ham and cheese sandwich which was reasonably priced and came with a light salad. Both tasted extremely good! I also had the sprinkle and peanut butter cookies which were also amazing! Stopped by this cafe after touring a wedding venue in the Presidio. I got the chef salad, and mi mamá had the special of the day, open face veggie sandwich with side salad. Both were really good and filling! I would absolutely stop by if in the area in the early morning/afternoon. You walk into the building, and the cafe is to the left. There are indoor tables and chairs but with this weather in March, we enjoyed them right in front. total was aprox $30 for 2 people. I think I had a different view if this place. Good for quick grab and go type people. I had a sandwich that was ok. The moved greens salad was not so amazing. Lack of dressing. I was expecting more. I found this spot on Yelp because I was meeting a friend in the Presideo for a motorcycle ride up to the Marin Headlands. I must say that I am so pleased to have found this cafe on Yelp. The staff is friendly and efficient, the food is fresh and well made. The location is wonderful. Parking may be a bit tough for those driving cars, but for motorcycles it's easy. At first we weren't sure how to find the cafe but we followed the maps and the sign, and it turns out to be located within a collaborative work space, which was super cool. Was expecting a restaurant not a little coffee cafe inside what looks to be a library/art college building. They don't have a vast breakfast menu but they had a lot of lunch sandwich options but we came too early for lunch. The basically have bagels and yep, that's about it. I got the Lox special which had smoked salmon, cream cheese and capers on my bagel. It came with a refreshing mixed green salad. The salad was good and the bagel was okay. Huge portions but the lox were in huge chunks which made it tough to eat and my tummy didn't feel too well afterwards. The bacon which wasn't on the menu was pretty good though. From the look of Yelp pictures I think this place is better for a quick lunch. Can't really call it a breakfast place when all they have is bagels and a slice of bacon. read more

Finally, a place in the Presidio that serves really good food for an affordable price! Cafe Rx is definitely the best medicine for a big appetite with small pockets. The owner Rogelio is an awesome, friendly guy goes out of his way to make you feel at home. The food is delicious and as others have mentioned, there is an extensive menu to choose from. Not only that, the menu changes regularly, and the specials which include Salvadoran pupusas and tamales are to die for! Their lunches are scrumpdillyumptious! But the breakfast is just as good! The huevos con chorizo (eggs with chorizo) is so freakin good! The eggs are scrambled just right and the pieces of chorizo give it that yummy made at home feel. They also make a french toast that is so tasty (I hate when french toast tastes eggy, this one doesn't) and has yummy FRESH fruit on top. All in all, Cafe Rx is a hidden gem in the Presidio located in the Thoreau Center aka the old Letterman Hospital. It's next door to the Lucas studios, so if you are ever in the area checkin out the Yoda fountain go there for breakfast or lunch! Tip: Get there before 11 am and try out the breakfast, it's totally worth it! Plus you'll skip the lunch line. But if you do go for lunch try and get there early, so you won't have to wait. read more

Just as the name implies, this is the place to get your fix in the Presidio. I work nearby so I visit regularly for lunch. Café RX also serves breakfast, which I'm sure is just as delicious, although I've never tried it. Since it's one of the only restaurants in the area, it gets pretty crowed during lunchtime (12-2 pm). Although, I've only waited at most 15 minutes for food. Everyone who works there is very friendly and as you wait in line to order, you frequently overhear convos between staff and regulars. It's nice to see how well they treat loyal customers. My favorite meal here is the chicken quesadilla, which will slightly differ each week. One time it had the most amazing watermelon salsa on it! Another time it was a mango salsa. I like the slight variations, it keeps the dishes exciting! There are always a few specials and most of the regular menu contains soups, salads, and sandwiches.
