We were here June 20th, 2026 for a afternoon World Cup Game . (Germany and Ivory Coast). Ambiance- We were hoping for some good ambiance, a real watch party being a pub. It wasn't that. Maybe if they were USA or more popular teams it would have been different. There were 4 people in the couch area, it was cozy so we didn't join them, but that was were the action was. No one in the bar area where we sat was into the game Seating- We arrived around 1pm just as the game was starting. The bar was nearly empty. Two parties were there sitting at the bar. One group had around 7 people, all in A's Jersey's. The A's were playing that evening at 7pm so these people were getting the party started early. We sat on one of the couple high tops. There was a tv right above us and was impossible. To see from our angle. There ware 2 TVs above the bar. One kept going in and out due to no signal, but the other one help up. We turned our chairs to face the tv so it was a great seating arrangement. The sound was not on for the TV so you just had to follow the game visually. Food- It's a pub so it's all pub food. My husband didn't want anything fried so that eliminated the fish and chips. That left us with a salad or a burger We got the pub burger for $21. It seemed kind of steep, but you're in a tourist area so that explains it. The burger was extra juicy at medium so that was good. It did lack flavor. It does help that it had pickles on it. That gave it some flavor. The onions were flavorless, but looked grilled. The menu doesn't say it, but it comes with fries. The fries needed more salt, but dipping them in ketchup helped the flavor. Now reading other reviews it looks like we could have gotten a side salad instead of fries. I guess we could have asked, but we didn't know it came with fries so we didn't ask for a subsitute. Bathroom- They had really nice bathrooms. You didn't have to go out side to the public restrooms. That was a plus especially since my burger was extra juicy and I needed to wash them. Parking- It's all street parking out front. Old Sacramento also has two garages that aren't that far. Depending on the day and the events that are gong on you you either pay by the day or by the hour. And don't lose your ticket as then you have to pay the maximum. If you are looking for a sit down place with pub food you've found your destination. This is one of the newer restaurants in Old Sacramento that isn't a white tablecloth type of restaurant. Which was a perk, because we weren't looking for fine dining this time. Actually we are never looking for fine dining when we go to Old Sacramento. The place was very clean and put off the new vibe. It's very nicely decorated. They even have a red telephone booth, a great place for pics.

I was looking for somewhere to eat for dinner in Old Sacramento and wandered by Bear & Crown. As it is a pub, it was dimly lit inside. It didn't have the most welcoming feel, as someone approached us from across the room after a few moments. I ordered the Fish & Chips and also tasted the Cottage Pie and Scotch Eggs. The portions for the main dishes weren't sizable but were good in terms of taste. The Fish & Chips was fine, but I will say the fish itself wasn't anything special. There was only one peice of fish, but I thought the cut was acceptable, although it would've been nice if the portion was slightly more. I thought the minted peas served with the dish were interesting. I'd never had anything like it before, the mint was very strong. I was impressed that the tartar sauce was made with fresh dill. The Cottage Pie was flavorful and I think I preferred this dish due to it being more unique to me than what i ordered. Service was fine overall. I had to ask for a water refill, so although not the most attentive, the staff was friendly.

Wow! Didn't know what we were walking into when we came in here for lunch: spacious and chill vibe with British pub decor and feel. Served by the personable Leo, we thoroughly enjoyed our delicious lunch: hummus dip app (yum), Margherita flatbread ( yum yum), and a HUGE coronation chicken salad sandwich with fries...OMG, the chicken was amazing, and I was full before I finished the first half ( dinner was the second half!). Walked by a couple eating at the bar and snapped a few pics of their lunch: huge is an understatement for the Asian chicken salad the female had, and the fish and chips looked delish too! Got to chat a bit with the owners too: Jessie and Joe, really nice guys. They have a store full of different British novelties( see pics), as well as offer game day specials. Support this business!!

I ordered the Cottage Pie and it was delicious, but tiny. It was very small at approximately 4" in diameter and 2" tall. I would probably need to eat 2-3 of these small pies to be satisfied. It was tasty and had lots of flavor with ground beef, potatoes, carrots, onions, and peas with gravy. The pie was very hot and fresh as it was served in a cast iron pie pan. The Scotch Eggs were flavorful and served with a curry mayo. The curry mayo was a delicious dipping aioli type sauce. The scotch eggs were soft boiled, breaded with sausage and breadcrumbs before being deep fried. They were scrumptious! The fish and chips were delicious however, the portion was small. There was only one piece of fish that looked like it was a half order. The tarter sauce tasted fresh and homemade with fresh dill. The minted peas were interesting as they were diced peas with a strong mint flavor. There is ample bar seating as this establishment is a restaurant/bar. Two pool tables are available which only take quarters to play. There is seating outside and an outdoor fire pit that overlooks the alley and other buildings in Old Sacramento. It was interesting to view the buildings from the patio as there appears to be apartments on the upper levels of the buildings, but at the ground level the façade retains the original historic presentation/construction. Service was average as workers were friendly. The server needed to be asked to refill water.

Hey there Party People Roaming around Old Town Sacramento getting ready for the Big 4th of July celebrations. Just can't resist a pub atmosphere especially with the World Cup playing in the background. The Bear & Crown represents the English Pub culture expertly. Thought I was back in London. Our waiter was great and made some fabulous suggestions. We had the Hummus dip as a starter. It was delicious. First time I've had it with roasted veggies in the dip. It really added an extra layer of flavor. The pita bread was fresh baked and perfectly soft. I had the Tequila Chicken Pasta. Be hungry because the plate was huge. I told my waiter to make it extra spicy and boy did the chefs listen. It was the bomb the sauce was rich like an Alfredo...so tasty. Hubby had the Bear Burger. He loved it and raved about the Black Pepper sauce that came on it. The burger was perfectly cooked to a medium well. Next time I visit I'm so coming back to visit London here in Sacramento. Be kind to one another

A nice new spot in Old Sacramento for the tourists and locals alike. I really appreciated that this place is comfortable and seamless with hosting large group events. While a little pricey, likely because of the location, we had our own space and a great selection of foods. We love that they seem to understand that some of the most delicious British food consists of the foods from countries they colonized, so the menu incorporation of the Indian curries are much appreciated! There was quite the array of fried foods but all were very good and crispy. The salad was also decent. The interior is a bit far and moody, but I think that sets the vibe. The staff seem fine and are available if needed. Parking may be a little rough given the location, but it's a fun place to check out and have a nicer meal in Old Sac!

I first want to say that I knew I would be visiting the area with my pup and so I messaged a few places I was interested in stopping at about their dog policy. Bear & Crown replied to me right away that they have a very dog friendly patio where we could enjoy a meal and some drinks. They have great customer service. When I arrived, they were having Drag Queen Karaoke and the place was packed. Everyone seemed to be having a great time and customers were very supportive of the singers (regardless of their talent level lol) so I really enjoyed the reassuring and uplifting vibes. We hung out in front for a bit and listened to a few songs while a few in my group had a drink but ultimately it was a bit too crowded and rowdy for us with our lil pup. Otherwise I would have been at the bar right away and had my name down for a song. We enjoyed our time here and I really look forward to coming back again soon and trying out the entire menu.

My husband and I were visiting Old Sacramento on Saturday and decided to check out Bear & Crown for the first time. The inside was decent sized with plenty of tables and booths - I loved seeing the interior decorated like a true London pub. The old school phonebooth was a nice touch too! We ordered the Kids Grilled Cheese and Fries, Fish and Chips, Pub House Pretzel, Scotch Eggs and the Best Date Ever. I also ordered a Gin Fizz which was a special drink they had for Mardi Gras. Everything was so good! My husband loved his Fish and Chips, the kids devoured their Grilled Cheese Sandwiches and I ate every single one of those Scotch Eggs and bacon wrapped dates. Everything was cooked well and seasoned perfectly. They also had a Mardi Gras menu available that included special drinks plus Gumbo and Shrimp and Grits. Service was spot on - he gave great recommendations and was super friendly. Our water glasses were never empty! They also offer a gift shop with lots of British items and snacks! Overall, we are big fans of Bear & Crown now! There were so many items on the menu that sounded great - we will definitely be back next time we are in Old Sac! Check them out!

I was seriously craving Shepherd Pie and though they didn't have it the barkeep was able to direct me to a suitable choice, their Cottage Pie. For $17 in a piping hot small cast iron serving dish it hot the spot. It's a nicely seasoned mix of ground beef, onions, peas and carrots in a rich brown gravy topped with whipped Duchess Potatoes. It was very flavorful and worth the charge IMO. They also offer at least a dozen beers including the larger well known brands and some local flavors. I have visited this pub in the past and it never disappoints. I will return next time travels being me to Sacramento.

Since parking's always a challenge for us when in Old Sac, we decided to park in the lot by L St, behind The Firehouse Restaurant. It was $6 for 2 hours which wasn't too bad. We were in this part of the Capital City for Dine Downtown 2026. We checked in earlier than our dinner reservation that Saturday and got sat in a spacious booth. It's beautiful inside with oversized seating booths, couches & ottomans, pool tables, and a full service bar. While the outside had more seating, it was too chilly for a comfortable dinner. Being a British pub, they are adorned with decor reminiscent of London. They also have a souvenir shop in the adjacent connected stall. Our drinks were the non-alcoholic Modest Mule and a glass of 20 Acres Cabernet Sauvignon. Appetizers were the Scotch Egg and Tomato Bisque (soup of the day). Entrees were Almond Crusted Brook Trout and Bangers & Mash (sausage and mashed potatoes) Desserts were Seasonal Bread Pudding and Sticky Toffee Pudding. For $49/person, this wasn't a bad deal. The fish and desserts lacked in flavor though. This is a good British pub in Old Sac with a great environment for watching a game while having a meal or a drink. Staff was nice and the restrooms were clean.

Came here on a Saturday dinner for Dine Downtown. Made a reservation on Open Table and I definitely recommend doing so as weekend can be busy. I heard 1 couple without reservation was told that the wait time was about 1 hour. Bear & Crown is located within the Old Sac area by 22nd street. On a Saturday night, it was not so hard to find parking. $3 per 1 hour for parking in one of the garages, max of $15 per day. This restaurant space wise is huge with a bar area, tables and booths. Good for groups. The Dine Downtown Menu is as follows: Appetizers * Scotch Egg - 7-minute egg wrapped in house-made sausage and bread crumbs served with house made curry mayo (yummy!) * Soup of the Day - Tomato bisque (yummy too) Entree * Bangers & Mash - two english-style sausages, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, onion gravy & buttered peas - this was good as well *Almond crusted Brook Trout served with basmati rice, lemon-tarragon butter, lemon broccolini - the fish was good but could need a little bit of seasoning and sauce Dessert *Sticky Toffee Pudding served with vanilla -bean ice cream and house made caramel sauce *Seasonal Bread Pudding served with house made caramel sauce Drinks * hubby got a cabernet *I got the modest mule (non alcoholic option) Me and hubby got 1 of each. The Dine Downtown pricing is $45/person for a 3 course meal. This is a worth it deal. Food here in Bear & Crown was good and serving was huge we had to take home the bread pudding and half of the trout. January 2026

A fantastic find! The Bear and Crown Pub nails that authentic British pub vibe the moment you walk in. Dark wood, cozy corners, and just the right amount of lively chatter create a welcoming atmosphere. The food was spot on. The Scotch Eggs were perfectly crispy on the outside with a beautifully runny yolk, and the Bangers and Mash was comfort food heaven. Juicy sausages and creamy mash smothered in rich gravy hit the mark. The staff were genuinely friendly and the service was quick and attentive without being overbearing. It felt like we were regulars from the first visit. If you are craving proper British pub fare in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, this place is a must. Highly recommended!

I was looking for a new place to grab a beer and chill. We came on a Saturday night and it was pretty quiet not alot of people. The place was well decorated and really enjoyed the ambiance. Our group enjoyed the beer and cocktails however the beers weren't cold. We ordered some appetizers which were good. I would come back but mainly just to hangout and drink if my groups needs more space. Overall it's decent just really hope they get more customers soon. read more

My wife & I came to Old Sacramento to enjoy the Christmas lights and found Bear & Crown for a bite to eat. It is a super nice updated place with cool pub vibes. It is a great place to hang out as they have pool tables & a back patio area. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Our service was great from start to finish. We had 9 Devils on Horseback for an appetizer. It was stupid good! Dates stuffed with blue cheese & wrapped in bacon. Very tasty! My wife had the butternut squash soup which she raved about & I had the stew which I enjoyed very much. Bear & Crown is a wonderful place to hang out & enjoy Old Sacramento! read more

We had Butternut squash soup and oh my gosh delicious Bacon wrapped, blue cheese stuffed dates. Really good but pricey Fish and Chips are soo yummy Sticky Toffee pudding is not so great! Tastes like a pancake and they throw some dates on it. I do not recommend this. Service was outstanding! Friendly, personable and helpful. Go here! A much needed addition to the Old Sac restaurant scene. A fresh take on the English Menu. Loved the Bacon wrapped dates, pretzel and the squash soup. Definitely coming back to try the wide range of Entrées. An upscale menu that has a fun environment with an amazing patio area with a couple pool tables. Went in for a beer, ended up staying for four hours. Service was super friendly and eager to please. This will be my new spot before heading over to the Kings games. A short walk through the tunnel and you are at the arena. read more

Great restaurant situated in the hustle and bustle of old Sacramento. We were seated right away on a Saturday morning. There was only a breakfast menu for Saturdays until 2 p.m., which I didn't know, however now that I do, I'm excited to have the opportunity to try their Sunday roast (only available Sundays) or other British staples. For their breakfast menu, they offered an omelet, oranges crepes, and a traditional English breakfast with black pudding, beans, cooked tomatoes, mushrooms & egg. My group enjoyed the breakfast, but the crepes did come cold. Service was spot on, interior was nicely decorated and was very clean. read more

It's our first time here and the pub is also just barely starting out. They are off to a great start, I should say. The ambience and service are great! It's got a modern/traditional pub feel to it. We ordered their "giant" pretzel (the beer cheese was great!), fish and chips (fish was legit but got soggy because of the mushy peas), Guinness stew (a little bland), Scotch eggs (highly recommended), and as you see two of their desert selections. We will surely be back but I do hope they keep improving their menu. read more

Bear & Crown British Pub is a welcome addition in Old Sacramento. They offer a tasty menu of British fare along with some unique cocktails! My friends and I tried the Chicken Tikka Masala, Poutine, Scotch Eggs, and Ploughman's Salad and everything was delicious! It felt like they had spent a long time honing the recipes and I was amazed that they had just opened. The ambiance is great - the inside is cozy and the back patio is gorgeous and perfect for a private event. I was very impressed with the service as it was a busy afternoon for them and I expected to wait for our order to come out... but our drinks came within 5 minutes and the food within 25! The owners, Joe and Jesse, greeted our group and made us feel very welcome. I will definitely be back and highly recommend that you check it out! read more

Great service, came in for some cocktails, good choices. Appetizer menu is fun, got the scotch eggs, would get them again. We sat outside on their back patio, beautiful spot. Came in from a dive bar, complete opposite atmosphere, it's a little on the higher end side with an older crowd, could've just been the time a day we came, but overall good experience. read more

Service was great and the patio was fantastic. I liked the ambiance of the restaurant. My husband got the Fish and Chips, which were overly battered and overly fried. When he removed the batter, he found the fish to be very good. I got Beef and Guinness Stew, which was barely warm and a very small serving. The Scotch Eggs were pretty good. I chose to not eat one because it was gray and unappealing. We paid $40 for a double Titos/soda and a basic glass of wine. read more

April 12, 2024 Update now any review, try 1,291 updates! Ah yes, I seeing my first has total of twenty four votes! I again will say just as Old Town Sacramento Visitor Center does, I will highly recommend this place! Normally any restaurant, any business that I go, if very (to me) loud volumes of television, that is quite the distraction to me, I will give just THREE STARS! Any reviews, I cannot write ONE STAR and any reviews, I cannot write TWO STARS! However, because in real life and because in Character I am Chinese, I not recognize this variety of food! They were just so very nice, so very understanding, so very patient! Very patient, close to if not at twenty minutes just to answer my what I hope were not too many questions of the menu! The child size Bangar And Mash (I apologize to the restaurant if I spelled it wrong), came to $13.05 with tax! Most child menu includes a drink, not here! However, some reason they offered me the drink, so I asked for orange juice! I finding that their orange juice is $5.00 before tax, so even if most times the $13.05 with tax just for child (Pediatric as I call it) menu will be quite expensive, since I had the orange juice, that is worth the price! Okay as say FIVE STARS and not THREE STARS because yes, all the employees were so very nice to me and because yes, all the volunteers were so very nice to me! Yes indeed the televisions were distracting to me, for me, but FIVE STARS because every here that day were just so very nice to me! read more

I was so excited to try this place. I tried to go two weekends ago but it was unexpectedly closed. I finally had a chance to go last Saturday. The place is super cute and spacious. We were seated right away in a large booth. The main reason for our visit was to have the sticky toffee pudding. I tried to order but it was sold out. So disappointing. I decided not to have anything but instead tried what the rest of the group was having. Three people had the Mac and cheese. I tried it and found that it was cold and lacking seasoning. The others also did not care for it. One person had the burger. The temperature was good but it was just an okay burger. The soup was good and so were the fries. I really want to try the STP but would be so disappointed to get there and not have it available that it may not be worth another visit. Cute place but wish the food was better. read more

First Impressions: As I walked in the space was overwhelmingly large, but with an air of simplicity that was satisfying. I often think of pubs as a a small venue. The Bear and Crown is well decorated with a feel of classic U.K pub and contemporary. The Old Sacramento brick definitely complements the setting. I waited at the door for a minute then was greeted by co-owner Jesse Ledin. He seemed a little rushed, but that's to be expected with so new of an establishment (I think this is the first week). I sat at the bar. This visit was around the lunch hour in a tourist area of Sacramento, on a holiday weekend (Sunday). Not terribly busy when I arrived, but the bartender seemed a little flustered already. I have to preface that I came here knowing I would've likely have to deal with new restaurant growing pains. Overall, nothing off putting yet. The London Boy cocktail I have ordered is not a bad start. The meat of it: After chatting with Leo (the bartender) it seems a few worker's called out while a festival has been going on this weekend, which explains why everyone is rushing around and frustrated. It's unfortunate but I'm sure they will solve that issue with more loyal staff in the future. A couple items were 86'd while I waited for my appetizer. That tells me those items are likely quite popular. As a new restaurant they will likely be able to better prep to avoid this in the future (growing pains). I was able to get the Scotch Eggs before they were 86'd though. Next I had a pint of Guinness (a must at any pub). Very clean. It was encouraging that they had Harp on tap as well. Many bars/pubs stick Bass for back and tan, but Harp is the proper lager to pair in a B&T. For my main I ordered Bangers and Mash. This is where I was disappointed. The bangers tasted great. The mashed potatoes tasted great. It all tasted great. The issue I have is with the amount vs. price. There really wasn't mush mash or peas to justify the $20 price tag. The onion gravy was great too, but more like sautéed onions and less like gravy. Again, I'm thinking new restaurant, not sure about food stores for weekend/holidays, so maybe the kitchen is rationing? Last for food and drinks we come to dessert. I was hoping to try the rotating bread pudding, but they were out, so I went with the Strawberry Trifle and The Fleming for a "night cap." Absolutely delicious. The dessert was definitely meant for two though. Final thoughts: the Bear and Crown has so much great potential. This visit was on a holiday weekend, and the end of their first week of opening. All in all the point a that mattered were met: the food was cooked well and tasted great, the atmosphere was inviting and authentic, the staff while under the gun performed well. I look forward to returning in the coming months to see how this place has grown and progressed. Good luck to Jesse and Joe with their endeavors in this future Old Town Sac hit spot. PS: Leo the bartender worked like a champ the whole time I was there. Doing the jobs of three at once. The guy deserves to be recognized. read more

This review is for service on Sat., 08/24/24 & includes information about accessibility. We chose this Pub for its menu & it didn't disappoint. We had Fish & Chips which was fresh with a crispy crust & freshly made tartar sauce, Ploughman's salad, a variation on a Cobb salad with fresh greens, meat & egg, Coronation Chicken Salad Sandwich, tarragon chicken with cranberries & celery, as well as Scotch Eggs. Everything was fresh & delicious. Our beverages included Jackrabbit porter & one of their Non Alcoholic choices, a "Fauxjito". Both were very good, especially the extremely refreshing "Fauxjito". Service was prompt & efficient. There is a generously proportioned patio for larger groups, & 2 pool tables. Wheelchair access is very good as seating includes both booths & tables. We didn't use the restrooms, but the building has been renovated, so access is likely at least fair. Family friendly, comfortable seating, and excellent service. My family and I went here on a Saturday. It was not busy at all. The appetizers were great and came out quickly. We tried the poutine, Scottish eggs, and a pretzel. I'd say it was overpriced but the appetizers were good. Our server was not very attentive to our table but was attentive to the two tables next to us. It took over 25 minutes after we had finished our appetizers before the server came to our table to take our order. Dinner was disappointing. My husband and I split a classic burger because we filled up on the appetizers. There wasn't even a handful of fries on our plate. The burger was hands down the worst burger either of us have had. I don't think there was any seasoning on the patty. I tried drowning my half in ranch and it was still terrible. My husband tried adding salt and pepper and it just wasn't even edible. Two of our kids had grilled cheese which was also bland and had barely any cheese. My youngest had Mac n cheese which had no flavor. We were so disappointed granted the reviews seemed great. The vibe in there is updated. The front desk area is welcoming and definitely a cozy-like ambiance, giving off "pub vibes," for sure. Probably a good spot for cocktails/drinks. However, I was not too impressed with the menu or the dish I had. Pretty basic and non-inventive as well as overpriced in my opinion. I had a beer salad with steak. The salad consisted of quartered pieces of yellow beets and wilted arugula with a sugary, thick, balsamic glaze. The steak was served to me pretty rare. I did ask for medium rare, but it was still kind of purple in the middle. The goat cheese cream placed on the bottom of the salad was quite tasty, though. To me, it came off more as an appetizer. well done and beautiful restaurant. you walk into the door and you have automatic understanding there is multiple options bringing a date or coming with a group of friends. bartender was very kind and did a wonderful job but we were not greeted at at least 10 to 15 minutes as seated we had to get up and go to the bar and put in an order. If that was not the case, I most definitely would've gave a 4 1/2or 5 star review . But I would return back to the restaurant again the food was very well great suggestion I will come back and would love to try to experience and give a better review next time. read more

Great open modern layout, with pool tables and friendly vibe. Awesome outdoor area to hang. My pregame before walking over to see the Kings were the a London Boy and the Fleming. after seeing on KCRA news we went in especially for the Fish and Chips while my wife had the Burger on a Pretzel Bun- reasonably priced. The Fish and Chips were overly fried and very dry (disappointing) I did tell the server and she replied that she would mention to the cook! My family and I have now been here twice and ordered a variety of menu items, and it's been outstanding both times. I'm not an ex-pat but have spent a great deal of time in the UK, and we hoped to find some decent pub grub and weren't disappointed. The service both times has been friendly and prompt, and the vibe is exactly what you want from a British pub: grown-up, with excellent, hearty food, but also family friendly (our kid was pleased with the options on the kids' menu--he doesn't like standard kid menu fare, so was happy to see a banger and mash on offer). Speaking of bangers and mash, this dish is first rate. You can taste that the bangers are charred on a wood fire grill instead of fried, and it's an excellent way to bring some Northern California goodness to a classic British dish, along with the fresh-tasting green peas. I would have liked more peas on the plate, but everything else was portioned well. Other things that were excellent: the fish and chips, the poached pear salad, the fried pickles. The Scotch eggs were fine, I would have liked a slightly softer, warm yolk in the middle rather than a hard, slightly cold yolk, but that's just a quibble. We look forward to coming back and trying other dishes (though honestly it'll be hard not to just keep ordering the bangers and mash, which really is excellent). In terms of the drinks selection, I would have liked to see more British and Irish beers and ales, and both times we've visited they were out of our first orders. I get that they are going with mostly local craft breweries, which isn't a bad thing on a number of levels, and I won't hold that against them. I just don't like the extremely hoppy/bitter direction local craft breweries have gone in, and am not a fan of pale ales and lagers. But I'm just saying, if they started carrying Smithwick's Red Ale, or even Boddington's, I'd order it at every visit! But that being said, one thing you'll find here that you won't find in a pub in London is an actually good wine selection, including sparkling wines. That's a definite benefit of being in Northern California. The food prices are on the higher side, but not completely outrageous for the quality. Thus far we've found that the quality in terms of food, ambience, and service matches the price. Plus, with a location in Old Sac you have to expect prices to be on the higher side. What folks have to realize about this place is that they seem to be going for the best of both worlds--the best of local, Northern California (fresh ingredients, craft breweries, wines) and the best of British pub culture (hearty, moreish dishes, family friendly without being kid-forward, overall design). And you know what? I think they're doing it pretty well, and hope they are in business for a long time. Because this has become our go-to spot whenever we're in Old Sac. read more

Service is fantastic, food is fresh and delicious and worth every Penny Bangers and Mash was flavorful, fish and chips so fresh with house made tartar, cottage pie was the best we have ever had and the kids burgers were perfectly cooked. Love any quality British pub and the Bear and Crown doesn't disappoint! Will definitely visit again as all things were exceptional starting with our friendly greeter and ending with our wonderfully warm sticky toffee pudding. Among our five guests we had scotch eggs, fish-n-chips, a chicken tikka masala and the Sunday roast (brisket meatloaf for the Sunday). All food was served hot, nicely presented, appropriately seasoned, and just plain yummy! This is not cheap pub fare folks, it's quality food! Our server was very engaging (but not annoyingly), attentive and didn't stop bringing us water even after the bill was paid. Great food, service and ambiance...so highly recommended. read more

Second time we've been. Service was good. Food was good generally. We ordered cottage pie, steak fritte, a hamburger (don't remember which one) and fish and chips. Everything was good except, surprisingly, the fish and chips. The portion was great but as soon as I picked up a piece the batter started falling off en masse. In addition, it was super greasy and made an oil puddle on the plate. I couldn't eat it all and ended up just stripping off the batter that remained and just eating the fish bare and the chips, which were also really oily. Everything else was great. We like the atmosphere, the drinks are good and the prices are very affordable. Kind of disappointed this time though. Though the fish and chips in an English pub would be better. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Joe L.

Jesse & Joe Ledin are a Sacramento-based couple who founded Bear & Crown in 2023 with the help of their family and close friends. They have lived in downtown Sacramento for 8 years and are excited to share their family’s history and heritage with the city! Jesse hails from Phoenix, AZ and has 19 years of experience in the food & beverage industry as a restaurant manager, beverage distributor, and most recently founder & COO of Tipsy Putt indoor mini golf/craft beer bar. Joe was born in London, England before moving to the West Coast with his family. He graduated with a business degree from UC Berkeley and works as a manager for a public accounting firm.

One thing I also appreciated was the service. When it was time to pay for our meal, the bartender asked if I wanted a refill on my lemonade. I told her we were about to head to the movie theater, so I didn't need one. Then he offered to put my lemonade in a to-go cup so I could take it with me. I thought that was a really thoughtful gesture and a nice example of great customer service. Overall, we had a good experience. The food and drinks were both enjoyable, and the staff corrected the only issue we had with the sliders. I wouldn't hesitate to come back, and next time we'll probably give the games a chance. If you're looking for a place to grab some good food and drinks before a movie, Tipsy Putt is definitely worth checking out.

The food arrived after a long time and asking the staff when the food would be ready and it was also pretty bad. Stale oil taste and burnt browned fish. We left after that and don't plan to be back. Don't even get me started on the bathroom it was dirty, sticky and lewd comments written every where.

Very excited--as one of a party of eight English folk (five of whom live in Sacramento), three Americans, and one Canadian--to give the new "British" Pub a try. (Disclosure: several of us are Food Industry). Space/Vibe: The place is large, and pleasant enough; it doesn't look that different from the previous Ten 22 incarnation. But a scant few dozen British-themed throw pillows and the odd flag/picture frame, though, does not a British Pub make. If you're going to hang your hat on the theme, you gotta go for it and really decorate the place with British paraphernalia (not a single kit to be seen). The garden is large and quite nice ... but note, no smoking (not the Pub's doing). Music isn't British, no jukebox either. Pool tables are a great addition, toilets clean. Overall, it's okay, but it doesn't feel British; maybe a slight bit of a "Wetherspoons" vibe but without the British beer? Service: All the staff were very welcoming and helpful; some need to gain menu knowledge, but it's to be expected early on. Overall, all were pleasant and welcoming, no issues. Food: Oh dear, there is considerable room for improvement (and more British options); we tried all the "British" dishes, plus the Burger. The Scotch Egg's egg was over-boiled (gray ring on the yolk), and hard-boiled (it does indicate hard-boiled on the menu to be fair). It was reminiscent of a gas station Scotch Egg. A restaurant Scotch Egg should be soft-boiled (think ramen egg), the sausage meat was dry and under-seasoned. Okay-ish, 5/10 The Fish n Chips were okay. They don't come with chips--it does indicate this on the menu--they were fries, and the fish was oddly very wet, not moist, reminiscent of frozen fish cooked from frozen. The batter was thin; the peas could have been elevated, especially considering the $20 price tag; portion size was okay. Room for improvement, 4/10 Poutine, nope ... roundly rejected and sent back to the kitchen, possessed only a passing similarity to Poutine and wasn't at all pleasant. The gravy was puzzling. Not good, 1/10 Ploughman's Salad: I'm guessing this is a spin on the Ploughmans' lunch. Unfortunately, it didn't possess any ingredients that make a Ploughman's great, no Picalilli! Essentially, just a Cobb Salad ... we passed. Bangers and Mash, the sausage was okay, definitely not house-made. Again, it seemed wet rather than moist, but that could all be down to the pitiful attempt at the gravy, which, instead of being a rich, hearty, thick, unctuous gravy full of sauteed onions, heavily reduced stock and made with love, was a thin insipid broth with super finely-sliced boiled onions. Tatters were okay. Sad, ruined by the "gravy", 3/10. Chicken Tikka Masala: Probably the best of the "British" food, it was a little simple, served on a bed of watery Basmati rice, reminiscent of a Waitrose (UK's version of Whole Foods but Posher) frozen meal for one that you heat up in a microwave at home. Complexity was lacking; no Naan, Poppadum, chutney, pickles, or Raita, etc. Okay, 6/10. The Cottage Pie was poor; besides getting the name correct for the corresponding ingredients, it barely resembled one. Thin, watery meat with no real gravy of substance, and a very small portion size for $25. Not good, 2/10. The Burger was acceptable, a little dry and safe to be honest. Okay, 5/10. Beer/Cocktails/Wine: They serve Imperial pints, great! BUT they are $10-11; I know there's inflation, and it's a touristy area, but that seems a tad excessive. Especially as they have only one, yes, one British beer on tap, Fullers ESB. Why not have London Pride, Old Speckled Hen, Bellhaven ... etc.? Many local breweries are doing British-style beers other than just Jack Rabbit. Props for having Brit-friendly 1664, Harp, and Guinness, but the selection could be better; it's spendy, and without a real ale program, somewhat disappointing. What we had of the Cocktail program was good, but as a British Pub it should focus way more heavily on Gin. Wine menus were okay, you'll find something you like but for a British pub really lacking on the French side, not a Claret to be had. No Bolly or Tatty darling, and no English Sparklers at all ... Gusbourne HAS to be mandatory. Experience: Aside from the food and the disappointing beer selection, we had a good time. Still, when you put eight English folks together and supply beer, it will inevitably end up a good time. I wish them well; I do. Double-down on the British theme as it feels like something other than a British pub. Improve the beer selection and look seriously at real ale. Bringing on the Gin's big time and curate a much deeper French wine selection. More than anything, the food needs help. Get an English/British Food Professional to help with the menu, make it honest and moreover authentic, and look into more classic British dishes beyond the stereotypical fare. Ultimately, the Bear & Crown is "British" in name only, and--sadly--was a bit of a disappointment, 4/10. read more

Greeted as we walked in and seated quickly. The ambiance was great, cozy seating and music I love playing in background. Waters all around with drink orders followed behind. I am a clean freak and the restaurant and restroom surpassed my expectations. We all ordered cocktails which were yummy. I recommend The Fleming. My husband recommends the London Boy. We devoured the appetizer, Poutine, steak fries, cheese curds in gravy. You gotta try it! My husband and I enjoyed our Fish & Chips and Mom her Lamb Loin. Recently visited Bear & Crown in Sacramento and was delighted by the British ambiance and cuisine. The decor successfully captures a cozy British vibe, making the dining experience quite enjoyable. We tried the beet salad, Vinny blue cheese burger, and the sticky toffee pudding. Each dish was well-prepared and flavorful, truly reflecting the essence of British cuisine. While the food was good, it didn't completely blow me away, but it was still a satisfying meal. One of the highlights was the back area of the restaurant. This place is awesome, coolest patio in Old Sac, possibly even all of Sac. I've been a few times and I can tell the menu has definitely had an upgrade in the past few months.
