Bearcat was highly recommended by my family when I was visiting NOLA during Mardi Gras week. We chose this location cause it was walking distance to WWII museum (check it out!). This location was located about 1-2 blocks from St Charles main parade route and while waiting for our place in line, we decided to catch our first beads. Wait time is normally about 1 hr+ and we had a wait time of 1 hr, 20 mins but table was ready within 1 hr. There are parking structures available as well as street parking. If you come here, be prepared for the wait. Not sure if they were short staff due to Mardi Gras week, but our main entrees didn't arrive for an hour. Slow but friendly service. For the appetizer, we ordered the Creole Crab Dip. This consisted of LA Blue crab meat, asiago, garlic and corn tortilla dip. Dish was so good, I started googling if I can find the recipe to make back home! My brother and his wife couldn't stop eating it even though they've been here many times but never ordered this dish. Definitely a must when you're here! For our entrees, I ordered the Crab Scramble. It consisted of LA blue crab meat, topped with asparagus, and a side of crispy potatoes. This dish is what it is but I enjoyed that I can actually taste the crab and everything was so good. My bf got the Hot Daddy Biscuit, which is like Cat Daddy - but spicy! It was spicy chicken, cajun gravy, with a biscuit, topped with a sunny side up egg. The chicken is cooked perfectly and still moist, and having a biscuit instead of English muffin gave it the oomph! Everything was so good and we got full quick - I guess it's true what they say, Southern brunch hits different. As much as we enjoyed everything, it felt like I needed to chug a few glasses of water cause it was very salty. This was like everything we had in NOLA though. On visit number one I had the VEGAN BEARCAT (tofu scramble instead of traditional eggs, black bean sausage patties and crispy potatoes). The tofu scramble was very good and the potatoes were amazing and extremely crispy. I forgot to ask but I assume they were air-fried and not deep fried (they were not oily at all). And since I think I can eat a lot, I also added on the optional VEGAN PANCAKES (they were huge and they were delicious) My hubby got the CAT DADDY (fried chicken on a biscuit and covered with crawfish gravy and an egg). He loved it. On visit number two I had the VEGAN BEARCAT breakfast again except this time I got their VEGAN BLUEBERRY PANCAKES. Let me just tell you the blueberry dressing was amazing. This time my husband tried a CRAB SCRAMBLE; he said it was great but I can tell he liked his Cat Daddy better from the other day. They don't accept reservations, and even though we went on a weekday, there was still a wait of about 30 min for 3 people. Food and drinks were reasonably priced. The butterfly pea matcha latte was slightly sweet and beautiful! Potatoes were super crispy, eggs softly scrambled without being overcooked, and finished off with crispy bacon in this Bearcat breakfast. I would say portions do tend to be on the smaller to medium size rather than large diner portions, but everything was great. Staff was accommodating, and I highly recommend. Clearly the locals know what's up because there's always a line. Our service was consistently excellent. Everyone was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Pretty quick on the coffee refills. Speaking of coffee, it's really good here and I recommend it. The menu has a lot of great vegetarian, pescatarian, and vegan options. The Fungus Amongus bowl, Shrimpy Daddy bowl, and Southwest Daddy bowl (without bacon) were all excellent. Very hard to pick a favorite. The eggs and potatoes were consistently well cooked. I've been a fan of your Freret location for a while now and your downtown location is more convenient for me (that is, if you're walking or Ubering... parking is as parking is in the CBD). IYKYK: don't arrive starving because you'll likely have a wait ahead of you. They do not take reservations and I don't blame them. It's cool because you know what to expect, so get there, put in your name and phone # and take a seat outside or go on a nice walk or hell, a pre-Brunch drink if that's your thing. What I love about this location, besides the extremely kind/cool staff: that generous patio (don't worry, there's shade). We stayed a while and it was so enjoyable that I barely noticed when our food arrived (lies). I'm obsessed with their rose water latte and it was a hot Sunday so I got that shit iced and it was glorious. Then I ordered the bubbly cocktail with blood orange liqueur because hello, I had to and so should you. I am not a fan of OJ in my champers so this is 10X better. Food: this time I had the vegan breakfast, which has an extremely tasty pile of seasoned tofu (probably some nutritional yeast in there making it umami-rich) with avocado, arugula, portabella mushrooms, caramelized onions and crema. So good (next time, I'd get w/o the onions -- not a fan of caramelized in general and there were a lot of these). And because I'm fucking obsessed with those crispy breakfast potatoes (legit crispy and coated with Cajun seasoning. INSANELY delicious), I devoured a side of those as well. Note to my future self: vegan breakfast is a good lighter option so that there's room for those potatoes! That said, if I'm being honest with myself, I think I will change it up next time. There can be a wait, but we sat at the bar (on a Sunday) and still had amazing service with really great food and drinks. Her porkchop was thick, the grits were creamy, and she ordered a side of scrambled eggs cooked hard. The eggs came out very runny. Yo the pancakes!! The pancakes!!
