I was in search of a good brunch spot while visiting New Orleans and came to Bearcat for just that! It was quite busy as it was a Saturday afternoon but the wait went by quickly! You place your name on a Yelp waitlist and wait for your place in line. We sat inside. Music was a little loud but set the tone for the good vibes. Our server was nice but didn't see them too often but each interaction was friendly. We ordered an egg and cheese biscuit, the tofu scramble which was a tofu scramble on top of beans, with pico, avocado and cashew crema and a side of home fries. Both entrees were fresh and delicious. The home fries were a little on the salty side but still tasty. We also ordered a mango lemonade and it was super good, and not overly sweet. I've only had the classic ones, but the blueberry ones have been calling my name. The Cat Daddy? My go-to. That crawfish gravy is life. I do wish they'd give just a little more, but it still hits every time. The biscuits are buttery and moist not dry, not crumbly, not trying to choke you. Add the gravy and it's over. The chicken is seasoned perfectly with the best crunch and just the right kick. Not too spicy just flavorful. The crab scramble is another hit. The asparagus and roasted potatoes on the side? Oh.My.Gaaaawd! Bearcat was on my foodie list for New Orleans and they did NOT disappoint! Now, a forever favorite! If you're in New Orleans, Bearcat is a must try! I was thankful I arrived before the morning crowd as they tend to have a wait. Their menu has a lot of great options, it was SO hard to decide what to get, but I landed on the Scallop and Grits + I added the Shrimp. I was NOT disappointed! My food arrived hot, just how I like it! The scallops were fresh and incredibly flavorful. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and paired well with the delicious grits! All of the staff I talked to were friendly and down to earth! A couple of them even complimented me on my pants I was wearing. My waitress checked in frequently and made sure my water was refilled when needed. Unfortunately, the weather was pretty humid when I visited, so I didn't get to enjoy the outdoor space they have. But if the weather is nice and you enjoy being outside, they have a super cute patio setup in the back. As far as the food, not much in the way of changes from previous review. Potatoes had way to much salt or pepper. Tofu scramble was bland. The vegan sausage was ok. Vegan ranchero was just ok this time. Place was packed, servers hustled. The big change is a mandatory 20% tip for parties of 2 (two) or more, pretty much every table in the restaurant. Plus a 3% "employee health care" upcharge. Just raise your menu prices 25%, announce you are a no-tipping establishment, you pay your employees a living wage with healthcare, and I'll feel really, really good about eating at your establishment. Instead actual out-the-door prices are about 24% higher (about 34% higher including tax) than stated on the menu which I consider to be wrong on many counts. I'm getting tired of it. read more

We did end up spending about $275 for three people, but we did have drinks and a ton of food. In a city full of great restaurants, this spot served the absolute best dish I ate all week. ORDER THE CAT DADDY! The most *outstanding* crawfish gravy tops a perfectly tender, lightly griddled biscuit and tasty fried chicken -- all crowned with a fried egg (which I ordered over medium.) TBH the egg was totally unnecessary but so befitting a brunch dish served in this city of decadence. The Cat Daddy was totally magical and I'll order exactly the same meal the next time I'm here. When we finally got in after about an hour wait, we were sat upstairs, which was nearly empty. It made me wonder why we had to wait so long to be sat. The food was excellent, I got one of the fried crab specials. Very tasty, and the portions are so large! The ambiance was nice, and the wait staff were attentive and kind. I have eaten at the Uptown location - FABULOUS - and wanted to try this location. My hope was for a shorter wait. Nope. The wait is still ridiculous and still no reservations accepted. This place is huge though, so you would think it would be a quicker turn around but everyone is so short staffed and I assume that is why they can't fill the place to avoid the long waits. There is an upstairs area in addition to a large outside, courtyard space. The location is really nice. With the miserable over an hour wait, we did have an incredible meal. Just like we did at the Uptown location. These Bearcat joints just know their flavors. The server was super friendly and recommended many items. I ordered the fried chicken with an egg on top along with the potatoes. Those potatoes though! All the flavors in the world are in that dish. It was like eating something out of Lafayette LA, like spicy, heat with perfectly cooked potatoes. I could eat those over and over again. The fried chicken was delicious so I don't want to take away anything from that. It was juicy and crispy and had spice but was not as spicy as the potatoes dish. That fried chicken is up there, top 5 in the city, I would say. I enjoy my meal so very much every time I come to a Bearcat location and am impressed that I get equally good, consistent food especially at two different locations (sometimes branching out can lose quality). And I am happy that all locations seem to be very busy. But I know I would dine here much more often if reservations could be made to avoid that long wait. read more

The food is always, always great here, thats why the line remains long. However the service at the CBD location is thumbs down. The hostess has one of the worst attitudes I ever saw. She literally told customers "including myself" she " didnt give a fuck if we got sat or not"... All because we asked our place in line (after waiting an hour) for a 1 top, since there were hella open seats at the bar. Bartenders are typically nice. I eat here once or twice a week because I live in the area but today was probably my last time for a long time. I tried to go to the Bearcat Baked location around the corner and the food tasted like the day old leftovers, not as fresh.... If you don't mind waiting a decent amount of time for food (as in 30-45 mins at the minimum on the weekends), the food is absolutely awesome. Shout out to Yelp though for being a part of their wait list process. Great staff and just a cool place to sit inside to eat a good brunch. I thoroughly enjoyed the mushroom scramble. The highlight was actually not the eggs, but the Cajun seasoned potatoes. Those were awesome. Especially if you add some hot sauce to it. Second kudos to the freshly squeezed orange juice. The hype is warranted! A short walk from the hotel I was staying at, I knew I had to come here during my visit after seeing so many good things about it online. My sis and I came around 10:30a and when we walked up I was surprised by how many people were sitting outside waiting. I already knew what i wanted so when our server Jerilyn came by I ordered the crab scramble with a side of bacon, sis ordered the short stack with a side of bacon and bison breakfast sausage. I also ordered a mango lemonade and sis got a bloody Mary. My meal looked amazing when it was sat in front of me, actually everything looked on point......and was! I've never had anything like a crab scramble before but oh my goodness, I've been thinking about meal since I had it. The eggs were softly scrambled and seasoned perfectly with delicious crab running all through it, they were not skimpy! The potatoes were so crispy, perfectly seasoned and despite the bacon not being as crispy as I preferred it was a great quality bacon and so good I didn't even mind. I thought the asparagus was an afterthought and I wasn't going to bother with it but I had a bite and even the asparagus was delicious and well seasoned too and I generally don't care for asparagus. The mango lemonade was excellent and I loved it and the bottle it came in so much so that I carefully tucked it away in my luggage to take back home lol. I had a taste of the bison breakfast sausage which I wasn't crazy about but it did taste high quality. The pancakes...... the best pancakes I've ever had! The pancakes were fluffy and airy beyond comprehension, shout out to our hotel concierge for recommending them, they were superb and after eating most of my meal, I went overboard on these pancakes. They do add gratuity to your check automatically, and they also have an employee fund.. not exactly sure what it's for but just know you will see two different charges on your receipt that has nothing to do with what you ordered. There's street parking available if you can find it.. and there's nearby lots. The food menu is vast so look at it before arriving lol. It's a huge restaurant with outdoor seating as well. I followed the kiosk instructions, which said parties over 5 should check in with the host, and asked to be accommodated for 7 guests.
