I have absolutely no idea how this place managed a 4.4/5. With that rating, going in, I was expecting a lot more. Starting with the good - the ambiance is nice - the outdoor seating is pleasant as long as it isn't too hot out. Service was also great. It wasn't too busy so our waiter was able to check in on us frequently. We ordered the chicken gyro and the breakfast burrito. Starting with the gyro, it was fresh but bland. Very bland. The gyro clearly lacked acidity which could have been remedied if they had used pickled onions or simply more lemon. The breakfast burrito ran into the same issues, however I would consider this even worse as on top of being bland it was extremely oily. Picking it up, my fingers were instantly coated in a layer of oil and it was dripping everywhere (See the picture provided). The lack of acidity and freshness in this was even more noticeable than the gyro due to the amount of oil. A fresh pico or salsa would have been greatly appreciated with this. The provided salsa tasted like a vinegary mess and was extremely off putting. Overall this place deserves a 3.5/5. I have absolutely no idea how they pulled a 4.4/5. read more

Came here for a birthday. Let me start off by saying our waiter was amazing! Very nice and knowledgeable. And for the reservation I had put it was for a birthday and they gave the birthday person a card which was thoughtful! For being called Beeside I was expecting more items with honey. The food overall was meh. We shared the trio dip which was underwhelming. The pita was very good though! I got the sea bass which was also underwhelming and a little surprised that it didn't come with any sides. The truffle fries were good though. I eat vegetarian at times and didn't like that tofu was the vegetarian option. What a delightfully lucky find! Beeside Balcony was able to take our group of 27 (!) on pretty short notice and make magic happen for a private event in December'21. We dialed in the options over email, and arrived to swanky printed menus at place settings, a private bar cranking out fresh cocktails, pass-around appetizers, dinner, and desserts. We had such a fun and helpful server team that made everything run like it was easy. I was worried the large group might overwhelm the kitchen, but the plating and timing were impeccable - everything came out together -- hot, beautiful, and delicious. The crab cake pops were awesome, and the Warm Apple Tart was a winner. What a fun evening.. would do again! read more

I feel like there are so few restaurants in North County where you can get a fantastic meal, and have a great view of the sunset at the same time - so I was so pleased to find this restaurant. My wife and I had had a truly spectacular meal, and happened to watch a stunning stunning Del Mar sunset. Not sure you can ask for more. Amoung our favorite dishes were the lamb meatballs and salmon tartare appetizers, the sea bass and octopus main courses, and all the cocktails we tried felt inventive and refreshing. The staff are so friendly - almost all used to work for the chef at a prior restaurant, so you can see all the enthusiasm that everyone has for working and enjoying being together at this restaurant. The dishes have a Mediterranean touch, and every one was plated so elegantly. I would highly recommend you enjoying a meal here. Pro tip - there's parking under the restaurant. read more

Fries were good and the portions & View was great. My husband ordered the crispy chicken sandwich which was bland and bit over cooked. The only weird thing I noticed was that they had a B restaurant rating which indicates that there may be issues. The first time my hubby and I came here we had a really good experience. The service was great, they are dog friendly, and we loved all of the dishes we got (octopus, sea bass, salmon tartare, and feta fries). However we went for the second time tonight and were really disappointed. I got the pork chop and it was SO dry and chewy. It was hard to cut through and I couldn't take more than a few bites. Hubby thought his mussels and oysters were just okay. Our waitress was really nice (and she took the pork dish off the bill) but service was slow and we had to ask for her on one occasion. I asked if one of the dishes could be made gluten free and she said no and didn't really seem to know to recommend other GF options. Nothing is GF specified on the menu either. Overall rating 3 stars between the two times we've been there. We probably won't be back. read more

My friend wanted to hang out in Del Mar and suggested a few restaurants in this area. We ended up going here since we both have never been and there was also no wait! The restaurant was a bit hard to find since it is located on the second floor on top of another eatery. I was glad we found this hidden gem! We sat outside and asked them to turn on the heat lamps since it was a bit chilly out. I ordered the sous-vide lamp chops and she got the pan seared salmon. Both entrees came out promptly and were delicious! The salmon was great, but the lamb chops were excellent! I loved the presentation of both dishes as well. The lamb chops were cooked sous-vide, so the meat was very tender, juicy, and full of flavor. We decided to skip dessert since we had other places to go. I love this little gem. I met my friend here and we had delightful fresh salads and finished off the night with a chocolate mousse that was prepared beautifully. The outdoor balcony seating is heated with lamps (I even took my jacket off!). It's not lit too brightly or dimly and it is a great atmosphere for chatting and enjoying a nice meal. The waiters were attentive and refilled our waters many times. Since it was nighttime I couldn't see the view but I loved the location of the restaurant, which was up a flight of stairs and tucked away. Great lunch experience! First and foremost, make a reservation. This spot gets busy when the sun is out because it's got a great ocean view. You CAN walk in also, but you won't get the primo tables if you do. The hostess had a smile on her face the whole time we were there... such a friendly welcome. The server was busy but she was helpful and sweet. My husband had the Fish & Frites with an Arnold Palmer and I had the Bee-youtiful bowl with a Blackberry Arnold Palmer (which you should absolutely get). We both really enjoyed our food and drinks. The bowl was more greens than quinoa, so it ended up being more of a salad than a bowl, but it was delicious and they were generous with the avocado. A wonderful little restaurant overlooking the Pacific, this eatery manages to combine a diverse menu and exuberant servers to produce a magical dining experience! What it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in experience. The dishes are interesting and full of flavor, with a very good wine list. The covered roof that extends over the outside eating area gives the best of both worlds. I enjoyed an expertly grilled Spanish style octopus salad that had both crispy outside, yet tender inside texture- hard to do with this finicky Cephalopoda! My wife enjoyed the seared chilean sea bass, which had just the right amount of beurre blanc to not drown this delicate fish! Went here last week to celebrate a birthday and although the ambiance is beautiful at night, the food and service was horrible. Our waitress was standoffish, not very friendly. I could get past that if the food was good I guess...We ordered the fries which were good as well as the platter with various dips-this was the only thing that was decent. For the entrees we ordered the salmon, lamb, vegetable risotto and branzino. The rissotto was bland, the branzino was salty and the salmon was so-so. I had an amazing time after my beach day day trip. I was looking for a quick lunch at a cute place where familiar (to me) and delicious food is served. From a quick yelp restaurant search I picked the Bayside Balcony. Even though I had no reservation I was able to get a table at outside patio. Half sun, half shade was the perfect combination for me with partial ocean view. ; ) The host lady was so amazing and funny and welcomed me with a big smile and sweet hospitality. I so appreciate great customer service. Then it was Soleil, the most amazing and genuine server who came by to take my order. She explained the dishes I questioned and was so knowledgeable to tell me the difference between traditional Mediterranean and Mediterranean with modern twist, the food which was being served at balcony. (Sorry long sentence lol) Soleil went above and beyond with a huge smile on her face to make sure my day was special. I was also celebrating a birthday and yes, she made sure that it did not go unnoticed either. I am forever thankful to this beautiful young lady, Soleil. The food, as I mentioned above was Mediterranean tasting with a lot of modern twist. I think that's the way food should be made and presented as inspired by modern day. I visit Grecce a lot, and I know the difference. More than the taste, I loved the presentation which was half homey, half garden and kind of abstract. ( okay I try not to make this an art painting critique). I really loved it, that's the bottom line. : ) Now, the baklava. This was not your good old baklava either. It looked more like a slice of ice cream. (See picture) Again, Soleil explained how it was before I asked for it. When I tasted the balcony inspired baklava, it had all the traditional taste of baklava but it also was so much more delicious. Greek people are going to ask for the recipe, I am sure. lol Okay, feeling funny today, but you really must try. I had their fish and chips in January and now it's June and I'm still thinking about. Think about the creamiest, softest, yet perfectly fried and not greasy fried fish- they have it. So freaking good. Will come back just for this before I leave town again. They also have this really good cactus mimosa, excellent. Polenta cakes were 5/5, and my friends octopus was delicious!!! Four of us descended on Beeside for dinner. Seating offers a great view and the service is spot on. We sampled lots of sides including polenta, fries, Brussels sprouts (a standout) and beet salad. Dinner was magnificent the sea bass was among the best I've ever had. The scallops were equally impressive. I was craving seafood and decided to stop in and try this place. After perusing their menu online I was interested in trying their escargot and their octopus; two of my favourite foods. When we arrived they sat us right away and brought out our water and drinks right away. In fact, the service was prompt throughout the meal, which I greatly appreciate. Unfortunately they do not carry any real hard spirits so their cocktails were made with these blends that were rice wine based kindof like sake. I tried the Prickly Lady and the Lavender Bee's Knees. The prickly lady was cloyingly sweet, and I felt as if I was going to get a cavity just from consuming a sip or two. The lavender bee's knees was far less offensive and I could even see myself ordering it again. The escargot was mediocre at best. I love escargot and this was a disappointment for me.. not very flavourful , with an odd preparation. Instead of butter and garlic it was in an almost pesto-like spread, and when they arrived at the table they were not cold but also not real and piping-hot either. The octopus was very tasty though. Again a preparation I have not really seen. It appeared almost deep-fried (but not) and was sooo delicious! Tender on the inside, kindof crispy on the outside. It was great. I recommend the octopus. This place would be better if they got a real liquor license and served real cocktails, but because my octopus was so good I may come back just for that! read more

Came here for lunch with some friends after the Torrey pines hike. It's in nice location, and nice atmosphere. I had quinoa bowl which barely had any quinoa. It was more like arugula salad with some quinoa sprinkled. The dressing didn't have much flavor so the whole thing tasted bland but at least the arugula tasted fresh. It had very little chickpeas, few slices of cucumber. I think black olive or feta cheese would be good to add some flavors. Truffle fries was good. Based on great Yelp reviews I decided to come here, but was quite disappointed. The coffee was cold and the food did not meet the price point. The whipped cream tasted like fridge/old savory food and the french toast were not tasty. The service gave a smiling face, but not genuine and actually wanting to help. I had to insist they change out an omelette for my mom as they had included onions despite our request-- which is totally okay, mistakes happen. But they attempted to gaslight us, two separate times by separate people, that there were not onions in the dish. It was wild that their knee-jerk reaction was to deny reality and gaslight us, and that they resisted in changing the dish out. In the end they gave us a new dish and the manager did check in, but the process was awkward and felt like an attempt to humiliate us. In the end they charged us for cheese and a sauce, which isn't a big deal money wise, but not cool they weren't transparent about the up-charges. It's a shame because it's a nice location/ambiance. But the food is cookie cutter, no flavor, and the service is fake and demeaning. read more
