okay. so established fact that the "garlic knot chicken parm sandwich" is one of a kind, and mind blowing.... FACT. i hadn't tried any of the pizza yet, but a few days ago, i was very hungry, and needed a pick-me-up before i got home to cook dinner. sooo, i opted for-after MUCH contemplation and debate-a slice of mushroom w. provolone cheese. often, pizza is...well, pizza. wasn't sure of what to expect. i was just borderline 'hangry"-but omg, the mushroom flavor permeated the entire slice, with each and every bite. was it a different kind of mushroom, not so typically mainstream? (no, i didn't see pink elephants...) and the PROVOLONE ! what a great combo. as well, and the flavors otherwise, whatever herbs/spices they used in the sauce/creation, made it the most EXCEPTIONALLY good single slice of pizza i have ever had. impressive. thank you. read more

The BEAST pulled up to Bella Lucia... and this one? Yeah--it's stepping into a higher tier. Grabbed a couple slices and some knots. This is a strong slice with real upside. Right out the gate, you're dealing with a clean, crispy New York-style foundation. The crust has that light crunch on the outside with enough give inside to keep it legit. Not overly doughy, not cardboard just balanced. That's how you start winning points with The BEAST. Now let's address the big talking point--the sauce. There's been some chatter on Yelp about inconsistency, and while that concern isn't totally off base, this visit leaned more positive than negative. The sauce had a nice tang with a slight sweetness, and more importantly it actually complemented the cheese instead of disappearing. Still not elite-tier locked in, but definitely better than average and trending in the right direction. Cheese + toppings? This is where Bella Lucia separates a bit. Good coverage, solid melt, and everything tastes fresh. No grease overload, no shortcuts it feels like they care about what's coming out of that oven. And let's not ignore the menu depth Stromboli's, sandwiches, etc. this isn't just a one-trick pizza stop. There's some versatility here. read more

We tried Bella Lucia's for the first time this past weekend, ordering food for my son's high school graduation party. The food was delicious--we had 5 different pizzas, wings, and three salads, and our guests raved about everything. Unfortunately, the pickup experience was disappointing. While waiting in line, we saw a female employee wearing an apron loudly slamming pizzas on the counter and speaking rudely to customers. When it was my turn, the interaction was no better. I chose not to address it at the time because my son was with me, and I did not want anything to take away from his celebration. Maybe she was simply having a bad day, but in my 50-plus years, I have never encountered someone in the restaurant business who seemed so unpleasant. As always, an amazing experience, everyone of us got something different and it was absolutely delicious. The food was phenomenal. The service is great as well, as they are fast, friendly and courteous, and look to try to help you wherever they can. I do like the look of the place it is much brighter than it was when it was a previous pizza place and it is very relaxed and its atmosphere. I definitely recommend this place if you're in the area and are looking for a delicious place to have some good pizza, rolls, calzones, or wings. They also have other things here that I have not tried yet so I can't speak on it. I just know that everything I've had so far has been absolutely delicious. I ordered a mushroom and sausage pizza tonight and was very impressed!! My Italian mom used to make homemade pizza and this crust was exceptionally good. Light and airy, toping was not over loaded with sauce, and perfect balance of cheese, mushrooms and sausage. Sooo good!! We will be back. read more

Brought to you by the folks of the former Halfmoon Sandwich & Salad Shoppe, Bella Lucia Pizzeria opened recently in the former Stromboli's Pizza & Grill, I Love NY Pizza of Troy, and Mama's Restaurant building, located next to Vent Fitness and in front of North Country Commons. This casual pizza eatery is order at the counter or online and offers takeout, delivery (added costs), and dine-in with ample table seating. They serve up a variety traditional & specialty pizzas (12" & 16" pies and slices), calzones, salads, wings, hot & cold heros, pasta dinners, chicken dinners, Coke fountain drinks and cooler drinks. I stopped by here for a pickup order and ordered a 12" The Bianca pizza ($16.99 plus tax), which was ready in 15 minutes. This pizza is a white pizza which was topped with oil & roasted garlic, fresh mozzarella, ricotta, prosciutto, romano and topped off with fresh arugula on a firm soft crust with an inch of edge crust. I enjoyed a couple slices out of the box before heading home to enjoy the rest of the pizza. I will have to get a calzone next time which is filled with ricotta, mozzarella and choice of topping (filling) with marinara sauce for dipping. read more

From the former owners of Halfmoon Sandwich Shoppe, they present Bella Lucia which offers pizza, sandwiches, and more. With that in mind, I ordered a slice of pepperoni pizza and the Shen Bomber Stromboli. To begin, the pepperoni pizza was just average. The crust was crispy and flavorful, but the cheese was really greasy and tasted artificial. Additionally, the sauce tasted like it came from a can. The pizza was nothing special. On the contrary, the Shen Bomber Stromboli was excellent. Now, the Shen Bomber wrap was a classic at Halfmoon Sandwich Shoppe and they turned it into a Stromboli here. Anyways, the outside of the Stromboli was crispy, hot, and tasted incredibly fresh. The inside was stuffed with fried chicken, mozzarella sticks, fries, Buffalo sauce, and bacon. It all mixed together perfectly to create a delicious taste that made my tastebuds explode with flavor. It was just as good as it was at Halfmoon Sandwich Shoppe. 1st experience at Bella Lucia. The food was very good and the girl working the counter was very nice but two small hiccups cost it 1 star. 1st after waiting for our cheese pizza for about 30 plus minutes I went to check on it and some how the ticket that prints the order in the back didn't print so there was no pizza being made for us. They offered us slices while they had to make it but if I had the slices I would of just canceled the order. 2. Issue for my wife and I was the loud inappropriate music playing in the restaurant. I like Little John but listening to skeet, skeet. skeet in my opinion isn't appropriate for a restaurant. The food was very good though and the people working there where nice and apologized for the error on the pizza. The place is very clean and has a nice menu. read more

Decent pizza restaurant in a convenient location. I have only had pizza here, so that is what this review addresses. Parking is tight. Drive in the entranceway and park in the back. You order at the counter. The dining area has four or five tables. Much of the businesses take out, but also a fair number of people eat in. The tables are usually pretty clean. I have only had the pizza there, and I can say that the varieties and quality of slices is better than average. Probably eight or so varieties of pizza ready and waiting for pizza by the slice. Every slice I've had has been good quality. They have enough traffic going through there so that the pizzas are relatively fresh. This allows them to have the number of pizzas that they do. They also have wings and subs, but I haven't had them. If you're in the area, this is a great place to stop in and get a quick, fresh slice. read more

Popped in on a Sunday for a quick lunch. One person stood behind counter and a few in kitchen appeared to be training. Enjoyed a few slices and a salad. Pizza was crispy on the bottom with nice crust. Tomato ricotta slice tasted great with nice splashes of sauce and cheese. Salad was fresh. Counter ordering with one menu taped to the counter. Would like to have time to read a menu. Nice table & booth seating indoors. Outdoor patio seating was choppy with tables not wiped, webs, chairs not straightened. Though it's early in season some TLC and some better arrangement of tables and added umbrellas in the future will make it a pleasant extension of the dining area. Order: Two slices of pepperoni pizza. They looked puzzled when I asked for pepperoni and mushrooms. I took two pieces of the pepperoni and an iced tea to-go. Service: Excellent Ambiance: Take out but the dining area looked warm and comfy Food: Pizza was not what I expected: loaded with too much salt. For my taste to be fair. Sauce was highly acidic, again, for my taste. I am used to high quality tomato/pizza sauces Crust very hard and brittle, hard to chew, and I love pizza crusts. I eat everyone else's, besides my own. the bottom of the pie was almost solid black. Not burnt, just had been re-heated a number of times and dried the whole pie out. My opinion: It was yesterday's pizza, refrigerated and re heated. It had definitely exceeded its hold time by a number of hours. My conclusion: I would not have served it to my family. I finished the first piece because I was hungry. I had to toss the 2nd piece. It was too hard to swallow the first piece. It's a No Bella for me at $10 for two slices. Albeit they were big slices, they were inedible. After reading all the laudatory reviews, yesterday, I just had to stop by for lunch. I hope you have better luck than I had. I was there with a couple others on Friday. In wanting something other than the typical national chain sub shops I found this place on google maps. From the moment you walk in you are greeted with a smile (didn't catch name of young lady who took care of us) to the quality of the bread and ingredients including meats and cheeses was amazing! I typically don't leave a lot of reviews, but felt compelled to in this instance. Pizza does come down to preference. If you like traditional New York style pizza with a sweet sauce (not too sweet), high butter fat, creamy cheese, with a great stretch, fantastic crispy crust, (not too crispy) then look no further. Ordered pick up. Walked in to an area with people just milling about. Not acknowledged by any staff member there. Was not until I waited over 5 minutes to inquire if my order was ready was it brought to the counter. Again no communication. The red sauce on 2 off the pizza tasted like canned tomato paste, and the small speciality pizza was put into a box too small for the pizza and the pizza ended up folding over in itself. No sauce on that pizza (Eddie Van Halen) and the bacon jam was burned tasting and clumpy. read more

The earlier reviews here I feel are unfair to a new business starting out. They need time to settle in. I am originally from an area that is known for good pizza. Let me tell you, this place has it dialed in. The pizza is cooked the way it's supposed to be. Not on a conveyor or by a heat lamp. If you like microwaved pizza then don't go here. The dough is amazing and the specialty slices are as well. Where can you go today for lunch, pay $5.50 get two slices and a drink?? This place!! This business will do well once word gets out.
